Millions of years ago the Okavango river use to flow into a large inland lake called Lake Makgadikgadi (now Makgadikgadi Pans). Tectonic activity and faulting interrupted the flow of the river causing it to backup and form what is now the Okavango Delta.

Situated 16km from Rundu in the Kavango region, this gem of a lodge (with campsite) provides that necessary break from the road. It's one of the Caprivi accommodation treasures to discover - and frequent - when in the northern reaches of the country. Entering Hakusembe River Lodge at the end of the winding gravel track, you are greeted with a refreshing image of green lawn, large trees, a collection of thatched chalets and a strip of sparkling river. River birds fly up between the reeds, people row their dugout canoes on the river and soft muted sounds float over the waters from the villages on the far bank.

The plant and wildlife especially within the national parks along the Okavango is very abundant. Along the large flood plains of the Okavango impressive woodlands and individual baobabs can be found. Amongst many more the abundant wildlife consist of elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and hydrophilic antelopes like Rietbok and Letchwe, not to forget crocodile and hippo. Life in the Region, the natural surrounding and the culture are strongly influenced by the Okavango, a majestic river originating from the Angolan highlands and flowing into the Okavango Delta in Botswana.

Hakusembe River Lodge is situated 16 km west of Rundu in the Caprivi. The thatched chalets overlook the banks of the Kavango River. This Lodge is well known for bird watching. Over 300 bird species are recorded in the area and you will be bound to spot something unusual, or worship the sun beside the beautiful swimming pool. Activities include river safaris, bird watching (over 400 species locally), bream and tiger fishing, sunset cruises, etc.

Die Hakusembe River Lodge liegt 16 km westlich von Rundu im Caprivi. Die strohgedeckten Chalets blicken auf die Ufer des Kavango. Die Lodge ist bekannt für Vogelsichtungen. Über 300 Vogelarten sind in der Gegend registriert und Sie werden bestimmt etwas Ungewöhnliches entdecken oder die Sonne am Schwimmbad genießen. Zu den Aktivitäten gehören Flusssafaris, Vogelbeobachtung, Angeln, Sonnenuntergangskreuzfahrten etc.
Jacana Camp situated about 25 kilometres west of Mombo, outside the Moremi Game reserve on the Jao flats, is a truly water-oriented camp and offers mokoro and walking safaris all year round. Game drives are also on offer year round. The camp is set in one of the most densely populated wetland areas for Sitatunga and Red Lechwe. Wildlife concentrations depend on the water flow and volume and thus change from season to season but all the big animals can be found in the area including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo.

Mokoro –und Fußsafaris werden ganzjährig angeboten. Auch Safarifahrten können das ganze Jahr gebucht werden. Das Camp liegt in einem Feuchtgebiet mit der größten Dichte an Sitatunga und Letchwe Antilopen. Die Wildtierdichte hängt vom Wasserfluss und dem Volumen ab und verändert sich somit saisonal. Alle großen Tiere wie unter anderem Elefanten, Löwen, Leoparden und Büffel sind jedoch in dieser Gegend zu finden.
Seba Camp, set in an ancient riverine forest in the heart of Botswana's magical Okavango Delta, offers secluded, luxurious accommodation overlooking a lagoon and seasonal floodplain teeming with animal and bird life. Guests can enjoy more than game viewing, however, as the camp is a base for unique research on elephant behaviour and a regular centre for wildlife film-makers.
It is named after Seba, a young bull elephant who was part of Randall Moore's pioneering elephant back safaris out of Abu Camp, a few kilometres away. Seba was released back into the wild where he joined up with other trained elephants released back into the wild by Moore. Guests at Seba are invited to observe firsthand the researchers at work, often in close proximity to the elephant herds.

Seba wurde danach wieder von Moore in die Wildnis freigelassen, wo er sich anderen, von Moore freigelassenen, trainierten Elefanten anschloss. Die Gäste haben die Möglichkeit den Forschern bei der Arbeit zuzugucken, die oft in unmittelbarer Nähe einer Elefanten Herde zu finden sind.
Ndhovu Safari Lodge is located around 20 km south of Divundu Bridge along road C 48, just after the Popa Falls in Namibia.
