Botswana ist ein weites Binnenland mit einem Umfang von circa 582 000 Quadratkilometern, das von seinen Nachbarn Südafrika, Simbabwe, Sambia und Namibia durch Flüsse getrennt wird, wovon einige nur in der Regenzeit fließen.

Zwei Drittel des Landes bestehen aus der Kalahari Wüste, einer staub verwehten, halbtrockenen, flachen Ebene. Sehenswürdigkeiten sind unter anderem der Chobe Nationalpark, das Moremi Wildtierreservat, das Okavango Delta, die Linyanti Sümpfe, die Makgadikgadi Pfannen, das Zentralkalahari Wildtierreservat, Tuli Block und der Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Die Regenzeit ist von November bis April und die Trockenzeit von Mai bis Oktober.      

A vast land-locked area of approximately 582,000 square kilometres, Botswana is divided from its neighbours, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia, mainly by rivers, some of which flow only during the wet season.

Two-thirds of the country is covered by the Kalahari Desert, a wind-blown, semi-arid, flat plain. Places of interest are the Chobe National Park, Moremi Wildlife Reserve, Okavango Delta, Linyanti Swamp, Makgadikgadi Pans, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Tuli Block and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The rainy season is from November to April, with the dry period May to October.

Das Okavango Delta gehört zu den erstaunlichsten Landschaften im südlichen Afrika. Das Gebiet besitzt eine reiche und einzigartige Biodiversität: etwa 500 Vogelarten, 128 verschiedene Säugetierarten, ca. 150 Reptilien- und Amphibienarten leben innerhalb und um das Okavango-Delta.

The Okavango Delta is one of the most amazing landscapes in southern Africa. The area has a rich and unique biodiversity: around 500 bird species, 128 different mammal species, and around 150 species of reptiles and amphibians live within and around the Okavango Delta.

Die etwa 15.000 Himba leben als Hirtenvolk in der Abgeschiedenheit des Kaokovelds im Nordwesten Namibias. Fast alle Himba leben in Familienclans, relativ autark und weit verstreut. Ihre Existenzgrundlage sind ihre Rinder- und Ziegenherden. Kleidung, Haartracht und Schmuck sind in der Himba Kultur von großer Wichtigkeit, und die Frauen verwenden täglich viel Zeit für die Schönheitspflege. Der Körper wird mit einer Creme aus ranzigem Butterfett und Ockerfarbe eingerieben. Der rötliche Glanz entspricht dem Schönheitsideal der Himba.

The approximately 15,000 Himba live as shepherds in the seclusion of the Kaokoveld in northwestern Namibia. Almost all Himba live in family clans, relatively self-sufficient and widely dispersed. Their livelihoods are their herds of cattle and goats. Clothing, hair and jewelry are very important in the Himba culture, and women spend a lot of time on beauty care every day. The body is rubbed with a cream of rancid butterfat and ocher color. The reddish shine corresponds to the ideal of beauty of the Himba.

Cape Town, the 350 year old mother city of South Africa, has one of the most beautiful surroundings in the world. The symbiosis of big city flair and the enchanting location by the ocean as well as the diversity of nations, the coexistence of the first and third worlds and the beautiful and varied hinterland leave nothing to be desired. Cape Town is especially famous for the Table Mountain - the symbol of the city. The striking, plateau-shaped surface of the table mountain, together with Signal Hill, Lions Head and Devils Peak, dominates the entire cityscape and  built the skyline so unique worldwide.

In der scheinbar unendlichen Weite der Kunene Region sind sie Zuhause, die Wüstenelefanten Namibias. Wüstenelefanten sind schlanker als ihre Artgenossen, haben längere Beine und größere Füße, damit sie weiter und ohne einzusinken durch die sandige Wüste wandern können. Etwa 70 Kilometer legt ein Wüstenelefant täglich auf der Suche nach Futter zurück und damit sieben Mal so viel wie ein Elefant in einem wasserreichen Gebiet.

They are at home in the seemingly endless vastness of the Kunene region, the desert elephants of Namibia. Desert elephants are slimmer than their relatives, have longer legs and larger feet so that they can walk further and without sinking in the sandy desert. A desert elephant travels about 70 kilometers a day looking for food, seven times as much as an elephant in a water-rich area.
