Urgent Plea: Help Evacuate My Family from Gaza!

Hello, my name is Malk from Gaza. I am writing to you today amidst harsh conditions that my family and I are enduring.

We are in urgent need of your help. The war and the ongoing genocide put our lives in constant danger, and every passing minute could be our last.

We are living in a small tent that lacks the most basic necessities of life, such as clean water, electricity, and food.

These essentials are currently unavailable to us, and we are in desperate need of them to survive.

My family and I are feeling extremely hopeless due to these tough circumstances. My grandparents are elderly and require medication and treatment, but there is no way to obtain them.

We need your support to save our lives and protect my family from the death that is chasing us.

Please, help us as soon as possible. Your support will make a huge difference and save our lives.

https://gofund.me/fdc0be9f

Lets help Malk and family to reach the $50,000 goal so they can evacuate safely and in hopes that treatment and medication can be given to Malk's grandparents! So far, $13,434 has been raised.

Every reblogs and donations matter!

The temp agency called with a job in a wood mill. I took it. My first day is tomorrow, then it's a full week M-F. They may decide to renew after that.

This is a relief because unlike the restaurant job there's no expectation I'll stay long term. My biggest worry is that a 40 hour week of manual labor may be more than my body can handle. If I can handle it, I'll stick with this job as long as it lasts or until January 30.

Why January 30? Because I'm eligible for unemployment aid then, and my counselor wants to get me on track for the nursing assistant certification program. I had the best conversation with her about it today. Plus! Omg you guys. Plus ! She was totally appalled at how my social worker has been (not) handling my attempts to move to the hour away city. And she called someone she knows in the office that kept referring me back to my same (not very helpful) social worker. And she talked to the person who agreed my application should get priority, so now I have a big form to fill out and mail to the person in the office and *we may finally be able to move* which would open up *so many things*.

For a year and four months I worked as an in home caregiver for people with severe disabilities. There were parts of my job I liked a lot and parts that were very frustrating, but overall it was unsustainable because I had to commute for an hour to the city and then during the day I'd have to go from one home to another. I was not paid for that time. So I was earning a part time salary but I was gone from home 60+ hours a week. I was utterly exhausted.

I found a job just 3km away from home, working at a long term care facility for elderly people who are still fairly autonomous. Reader, it was a shitshow. This has been independently verified; the government agency that evaluates these places failed the facility.

Anyway, I was going to hang in there because they had promised to put me through a nursing assistant certification. At the end of my 30 trial period they fired me. Mind you they never trained me for any part of the job. When I asked questions I got answers ranging from sarcastic to nasty. And no one ever gave me any feedback. So yeah I'm sure I fcked things up but I'm also not a mind-reader and a heads up would have helped. Anyway. Because I quit the previous job and worked only thirty days I'm ineligible for unemployment aid. You have to have worked at least 91 days after quitting a job.

It's been two weeks. I have lost track of how many jobs I have applied for. I have three kids. One has a birthday in November, then there's Christmas, and then another has a birthday in January. I'm stressing so hard. I had a job interview today at a long term care facility for dependent elderly people but it's in the hour-away city and the bus schedule doesn't fit with their shifts. The managing nurse is going to see if she can make it work when she does the schedules for November and December over the weekend. I find out on Monday.

So I’m fully on the Tech Lives train, but I’m still grieving and I’m struggling to sleep at night too now

I’ve attached some websites to help with grief as I’ve read others posts about how they’re feeling and I’m hoping this might help alleviate some of the pain

Unfortunately some people are unable to express their grief over Tech to their friends as they don’t watch the show or don’t understand but the Bad Batch fandom are here

Also my inbox is always open if someone needs a shoulder to cry on

Golf Courses ARE Being Converted

The Solarpunk "fantasy" that so many of us tout as a dream vision, converting golf courses into ecological wonderlands, is being implemented across the USA according to this NYT article!

The article covers courses in Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, and New York that are being bought and turned into habitat and hiking trails.

Golf Courses ARE Being Converted

The article goes more into detail about how sand traps are being turned into sand boxes for kids, endangered local species are being planted, rocks for owl habitat are being installed, and that as these courses become wilder, they are creating more areas for biodiversity to thrive.

Most of the courses in transition are being bought by Local Land Trusts. Apparently the supply of golf courses in the USA is way over the demand, and many have been shut down since the early 2000s. While many are bought up and paved over, land Trusts have been able to buy several and turn them into what the communities want: public areas for people and wildlife. It does make a point to say that not every hold course location lends itself well to habitat for animals (but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make great housing!)

Golf Courses ARE Being Converted

So lets be excited by the fact that people we don't even know about are working on the solutions we love to see! Turning a private space that needs thousands of gallons of water and fertilizer into an ecologically oriented public space is the future I want to see! I can say when I used to work in water conservation, we were getting a lot of clients that were golf courses that were interested in cutting their resource input, and they ended up planting a lot of natives! So even the golf courses that still operate could be making an effort.

So what I'd encourage you to do is see if there's any land or community trusts in your area, and see if you can get involved! Maybe even look into how to start one in your community! Through land trusts it's not always golf course conversions, but community gardens, solar fields, disaster adaptation, or low cost housing! (Here's a link to the first locator I found, but that doesn't mean if something isn't on here it doesn't exist in your area, do some digging!)

We Dont Stop Falling Until We Hit The Bottom. Last Night Finally Hit The Floor And The Devastation, Although

We don’t stop falling until we hit the bottom. Last night finally hit the floor and the devastation, although catastrophic, was abundantly clear.

Today, accepting accountability, I’ve been able to confess and begin the long road to rehabilitation.

It’s scary, daunting, it’ll be the hardest journey… but a weight is lifted, there’s a target, there’s hope and most importantly, I’m ready to start climbing again.

My grass isn’t dead, it just needs watering.
