Kwessi Dunes Lodge is located deep in Namibia’s striking NamibRand Nature Reserve, a vast desert wilderness of over 200,000 hectares. With its rolling desert plains and backdrop of craggy mountains and iconic red dunes, this is a place where time seems to stand still and the space is never-ending.

Die Kwessi Dunes Lodge befindet sich tief im markanten NamibRand-Naturschutzgebiet Namibias, einer riesigen Wüstenwildnis von über 200.000 Hektar. Mit seinen sanften Wüstenebenen und der Kulisse aus schroffen Bergen und ikonischen roten Dünen ist dies ein Platz, an dem die Zeit still zu stehen scheint und der Horizont niemals endet.

Die Sambesi Region ist ein regenreiches Gebiet im Nordosten Namibia. Der alte (deutsche) Name Caprivi oder Caprivizipfel wird heute noch oft verwendet. Allerdings wurde das Gebiet 2013 offiziell in Sambesi umbenannt.

Zu Beginn jeder Regenzeit entfaltet der Sambesi eine Kraft sein, die man gesehen haben muss. Das Hochwasser des Frühlings strömt durch enge Flusskanäle und Schluchten die Täler hinunter und auf die riesigen Auen an der Mündung des Sambesi und bringt Nährstoffe und reiche Böden, die für die Produktivität und das Überleben der Pflanzen und Tiere des Deltas unerlässlich sind.

The Zambesi region is situated in the north-east of Namibia and unlike the rest of the country is blessed with good rainfalls. The old german name Caprivi or Caprivi Strip is still in common use although the region had been officially renamed to Zambezi in 2013.

Untamed, the Zambezi River must have been a force to behold at the start of the rainy season. Spring floodwaters surged down the valleys through narrow river channels and gorges, and onto the vast floodplains at the mouth of the Zambezi, bringing nutrients and rich soils essential to the productivity and survival of the plants and animals of the delta.

Solitaire is a remote settlement, at the edge of the Namib-Naukluft National Park which has been a welcome stopover for more than 60 years. A thirsty traveler will find cold drinks, ice cream, baked goods, coffee and lunch. You can fill up on petrol, have tyres repaired, and stretch your legs during the long drive from Sesriem to Swakopmund.

Ein durstiger Reisender findet kalte Getränke, Eis, Backwaren, Kaffee und Mittagessen. Auf der langen Fahrt von Sesriem nach Swakopmund kann man Benzin tanken, Reifen reparieren lassen und sich die Beine vertreten.

Tikoloshe Afrika In den 1980er Jahren lernte Paul Goldbach auf einem Bauernhof im Norden Namibias Paulo Cashinga kennen, einen erfahrenen Holzschnitzer aus der Region Kavango. Goldbach begegnete dem Schnitzen von Wurzeln zum ersten Mal in Südamerika. Als er sah, wie Cashinga einen traditionellen Springbock aus einem Baumstamm schnitzte, war er so beeindruckt, dass er sich entschied, mit ihm eine Geschäftsidee auszuprobieren. In seiner Freizeit leitete Paul das Startup, während Paulo Cashinga eine erstaunliche und faszinierende Vielfalt namibischer Fauna hauptsächlich aus den Wurzeln von Senfbaum, Tamboti und Eisenholz schnitzte. Leider ist Paulo Cashinga 2012 verstorben, aber seine charakteristischen wurzelgeschnitzten Skulpturen schmücken weiterhin Haus und Heim im In- und Ausland.

Tikoloshe Afrika In the 1980-ies, on a farm in north-central Namibia, Paul Goldbach met Paulo Cashinga, a skilled woodcarver from the Kavango region. Paul first encountered root carving in South America, but when he witnessed Cashinga carving a traditional Springbok out of a tree trunk, he was so impressed that he decided to try out a business idea with him. In his spare time Paul managed the startup, while Paulo Cashinga carved an amazing and fascinating variety of Namibian fauna mainly from the roots of Mustard tree, Tamboti and Ironwood. Unfortunately, Paulo Cashinga passed away in 2012, but his characteristic root carved sculptures continue to decorate house and homes, nationally and abroad.
