quick reminder that 9/11 isn’t only an important date in us history, but also in chilean history as well.
today marks the start of a military dictatorship that ruled chile for 17 years (1973-1990) due to the political intervention of the united states. this period was characterized by blatant human rights violations, with people getting exiled from their own country because of their political beliefs and chileans (of all ages) getting tortured under this military regime.
according to the informe rettig (a comission that investigated the human rights violations during the dictatorship), there is an estimate of 28,259 victims of political prison and torture, 2,298 executed and 1,209 detenidos desaparecidos (people that “went missing” while they were detained by military authorities). these people ranged from figures of political opposition, their relatives, students, indigenous people, immigrants, underage kids, among many others.
despite the fact that the dictatorship of augusto pinochet was over fifty years ago, there are still chilean citizens that do not know what happened to their loved ones that went missing during this time period.

It really is Incredible how usamericans (particularly so called "leftists") will be so eager to find ways to excuse the suffering of people from the global south as "normal" or "less important" than their own. They paint the suffering of other countries at the hands of the US as something normal, expectable, that can't be changed so we shouldn't even bother. After all, they are used to the commodities and privileges the destruction of the global south gives them, so why stop? They see places like Palestine as fair sacrifices to continue their status quo.
They use what Project 2025 says Trump will do to minorities as their primary argument for why their possible suffering is a bigger priority. But you know that they only care about minorities in the US, if they cared about anyone else they would be just as outraged for the minorities in the global south that have been suffering from the US imperialism and colonization on their countries for decades at this point.
And by incredible I mean utterly disgusting.
I am reposting this to take accountability for the egregious oversight I made on my previous post. I said "rest in peace and power," and I definitely did not intend to disrespect and de-historicize the meaning behind 'rest in power.' The Black Lives Matter movement uses this in remembrance of the Black people who have been killed by police violence and brutality, so my sincere apologies.
What Aaron is exposing and what he has done must be spoken about, especially since it concerns US complicity and violence, but definitely using appropriate words and context. Thank you to the person who pointed/called it out. I hope Aaron is resting in peace.

some of white western feminist advocacy boils down to viewing issues (problematically so) as one-dimensional. their praxis never includes reflexivity, accountability, and intersectionality; while they ensure that their OWN reproductive health rights are never threatened, they vastly ignore so many people suffering in the world just because it doesn't directly impact them -looking at their priorities is just always so shameless and despicable.

The US military has completed its 500th flight airlifting over 50,000 tons of weapons and equipment to the Israeli army for its over ten-month onslaught against Palestinians in Gaza, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced on 26 August. In addition to the weapons and equipment airlifted to Israel since 7 October, Washington has sent Tel Aviv 107 shipments of military supplies by sea. A Defense Ministry statement said the shipments include “armored vehicles, munitions, ammunition, personal protection gear, and medical equipment, which are crucial for sustaining the IDF’s operational capabilities during the ongoing war.” The weapons shipments – that have enabled Israel to kill over 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and render Gaza uninhabitable – come as White House officials claim that US presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris has been “working tirelessly” for a ceasefire agreement. Muhammad Shehada of EuroMed Human Rights reported on 25 August that, according to multiple senior officials in Doha who were directly involved in the Israel–Gaza ceasefire talks, “There are currently no negotiations, only a sham theatre play.”
