Every time SP called Dokja a fool during my first read, I always got angry. Now that I’m rereading, I makes me angrier than before.

I disappeared for a long time— tbh I was just too lazy to actually do anything, but I found out about how many good Dokhyuk moments were eradicated in the ebook version and so I decided to write more Dokhyuk moments in anger and rage.

There’s so many good things we won’t see in the Webtoon ｡ﾟ(ﾟ´ω`ﾟ)ﾟ｡

The kkoma Yoo Joonghyuk number [999] polishing his [Heaven Shaking Sword] atop my shoulder grumbled softly. “Your driving sucks.”

I know it isn’t our Yoo Joonghyuk but still.

Right after I went past the Gate, I was greeted by the rainbow-coloured aura swirling around, followed by the guide message as well as an accompanying video.

Rainbow for the gays.

[Player 1-nim says that ‘It’s fine if it’s a Murim dumpling’.]

Is player 1-nim Yoo Joonghyuk…? I forgor.

“By the way, you must really like Murim dumplings?”

I knew well who she was talking about there.

I may have skipped a few parts after this one because this has been sitting in my drafts for 77 days 💀.

A heavy-sounding tone of voice came out from inside the carrier. It seemed to contain this surprising power to change the mood of the surrounding atmosphere with just a single word.

I swallowed my saliva and walked up to the kids.

For sure, calling a face like that ‘Yogoe’ didn’t seem all that out of place. Because, well, it was inconceivable that a normal human would be blessed with such looks, after all. —?

If someone saw those features and not get immediately drawn in by them, then there must be something wrong with that person.

Lee Gilyoung, still dangling in the air, began to thrash about frantically.

Gilyoung is adorable.

“Zhu Bajie is not our enemy.”

Yi Gil-Yeong’s eyes went extra-round after he heard me. He even looked disappointed for some reason. “Whaaat? Dang it….”

Gilyoung’s constant antagonizing Yoo Joonghyuk reminds me of Louis and Sherlock from Moriarty the Patriot. It’s adorable.

Yoo Joonghyuk stepped forward and suddenly brandished the [Dark Heavenly Demon Sword] in my direction, then drew a very tiny circle on the ground around my feet.

“You do not step beyond this line.”

“Eh?”

“Move one step, and I’ll kill you.”

Bwhahaha

His sword technique on display was beautiful enough to entrance the viewers. His swordsmanship had taken yet another major leap forward when compared to before, making it impossible to imagine just how far he had to push himself to reach such a realm.

The fact that almost all of his new found strength came from training due to Dokja’s disappearance—

I ended up worrying about him and so, I had to say something. “Excuse me, Junior Brother. Why don’t you walk closer to us?”

“….And who’s your ‘junior’ now?”

That idiot glared back at me with incredibly intimidating eyes and I couldn’t say anything else.

“The idiot” awwww~

I think this said something important, but my dumbass deleted the rest of the text in accident ;-;

Yi Gil-Yeong wordlessly tossed a pebble inside the campfire, while Shin Yu-Seung nervously studied Yu Jung-Hyeok’s and my current moods, her fingers fidgeting around with the soil on the ground.

It was then we heard the sound of a stomach growling loudly. Yi Gil-Yeong frowned tearfully and rubbed his belly.

“I’m starving….”

I grinned slightly and pulled something out from my inner pocket. “Would you like some dumplings?”

And very slowly, so very slowly, as if he was studying his new enemy, brought the dumpling near his nose.

“….This aroma??”

That’s right, eat that damn dumpling, you bastard.

Okay waifu~ I mean-. Ahem.

“….It’s not that bad, I suppose.”

I heard Yoo Joonghyuk’s nearly-inaudible muttering and quietly looked up at the sky. The stars of the night sky sparkled as they looked down at us, as if the destruction of the world was a story belonging to a distant realm.

While chewing the dumpling, I began thinking this for the first time. That I wouldn’t have minded this story going on for a little while longer.

Yoo Joonghyuk being a Tsundere.

Sun Wukong used his arm as his pillow and began snoring away, and as for the pair of Tang Sanzangs, they used each of the Monkey King’s legs as their own pillows to sleep as well. They must’ve been fatigued by the journey.

However, a shadow quietly stood up, utilising this dead of night where the messages from the audience members and the judges had disappeared temporarily.

This can either be very intimidating or very sweet—like a father watching his family sleep peacefully as he guards for the night. In reality, he was about to kill Dokja, but we won’t talk about that.

[You can’t complete this universe.]

It was a gigantic wall that Yoo Joonghyuk couldn’t go past with his power. But he still instinctively understood it.

‘Past this wall is where I’ll find the answer I’ve been looking for.’

Am I the only one who thought ‘it’s because you don’t have your other half with you?’

⸢Kim Dokja thought to himself. ‘I’m Yoo Joonghyuk.’⸥

I bit my lips and formed the expression similar to the coolest person that I knew.

“Coolest person that I knew” awwwww

And then, Yoo Joonghyuk was standing before me as if to shield me. He glared at the sky, and pointed the [Dark Heavenly Demon Sword] scattering electrical energy at the opponent.

“I won’t say this twice. Scram.”

He protecc, he attacc, he has a wide and lonely bacc.

Yoo Joonghyuk discarded my wrist like trash and stood up from the spot. “….We’ve wasted precious elixirs.” —

Lee Jihye, watching that, spoke to me. “My Master, no wait, my Senior Brother is really cool, isn’t he? Even though he’s saying that, he was the first person to recommend using elixirs on you.”

That Tsundere fuck—

“Joonghyuk-ahjussi.”

He looked back at her with his trademark disinterested eyes, and her small hand pressed against his cheek. Upon closer inspection, a cream-type ointment was applied there.

“….What are you doing?”

“Be still or it’ll get infected, you know. Ah, don’t turn your head!”

Father-Daughter bonding- I’m gonna sob

She looked at me with distant eyes before shaking her head with a smirk.

I thought about it for a little while, before speaking up with a voice overflowing with affection towards, uh, myself.

Notice how he uses she/her pronouns now >-<. We don’t talk about Hayoung and Dokja’s relationship enough.

As things stood, I couldn’t really tell apart whether we were in the [Journey to the West] or [Kim Dokja Company’s Disorganised Great Adventure Get-Together].

Not a moment but it’s hilarious so I’ll include it.

Perhaps he noticed the direction of my gaze, Yoo Joonghyuk suddenly began talking to me. “….Surely, you fool must’ve realised this. You can’t save everyone.”

Those words hurt especially more so because they came from Yoo Joonghyuk himself.

For some reason, this feels very familiar. I’m not sure how, but it feels like I’ve read a romance novel where the male lead says the exact same thing to the girl. Or was it the other way around..?

Yoo Joonghyuk unsheathed his [Dark Heavenly Demon Sword] once more and stood in front of us, wary of his new opponent.

He protecc, he attacc, he carries burdens on his bacc

Yoo Joonghyuk and I each grabbed Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yoosung, and flung ourselves into the river. Along with the explosive noise of the Tongtian itself blowing up, our phantom ship shattered and sunk beneath the water. —-We found debris floating on the river’s surface and managed to barely grab hold of it.

“Woo-ehck! Hey, I can survive by myself, so let me go!”

Lee Gilyoung kicked around and shouted out.

Parents. They are parents. Divorced parents.

Yoo Joonghyuk unsheathed his sword and stepped forward. He glanced at me as he did so. “Take the kids away and acquire the sacred texts.”

That prompted Lee Gilyoung to shout out as if he was having a breakdown. “Who’s taking who here?! I….!”

The boy’s lips snapped shut after he sensed Yoo Joonghyuk emitting his Status.

His jet-black coat danced in the air. It was as if he had suddenly transformed into a black hole; his back faced us as he stood there against the lights shining from 28 stars. That was the back of a man who had been silently protecting certain people.

I want someone to describe me like how Dokja describes Joonghyuk.

I nodded my head and replied. “Do your best.”

“Get going!”

Sacrificial spouse trope vibes.

He failed to comprehend the situation and was about to shout out, but before he could, I placed my hand on top of his head first.

“You understand? Gilyoung-ah.”

And that marks the end of the chapter.

Dokhyuk Moments: Part 38

79 days…I have no excuses

I also lost my spot so I may have skipped some moments for this part

I’m doing this in a bit of a rush so I won’t be able to change the name romanization, so please bear with.

Han Su-Yeong’s jaw dropped to the floor as she muttered softly. “….What the heck is that?”

For some unfathomable reason, the Earth’s media had found out about that event. Yi Su-Gyeong and her rather relaxed expression stared at the screen for a little while, then she nodded her head. “That boy. He’s still so popular.”

“Ahjumma?! Don’t you get that it’s a pretty serious problem??”

“But, he looks like Yu Jung-Hyeok-gun. So, what can be a serious problem?”

“Because, that’s not the ‘Yu Jung-Hyeok’. That’s the problem.”

This is such a touching scene- the apocalypse gave Yoosung so many opportunities yet it ruined them as well. I want to see a world where Dokja and Joonghyuk get together and raise the kids.

Also, the sight of the emo bastard and Yoosung cooking together is so cute my heart is gonna melt.

As if he was under a spell, Yu Jung-Hyeok grasped the [Dark Heavenly Demon Sword]. It felt so natural in his hand, as if it had been his since a long time ago. And he picked the coat up from the debris as well. It was white, the colour he disliked.

Ohohohoho

Yu Jung-Hyeok slowly opened his eyes gleaming in golden light and spoke back to me. ‘You’re late.’

He didn’t get angry or reprimanded me, simply choosing to say that.

He probably knew that I was playing the role of Sun Wukong, though….

Not to romanticize this behavior or anything but I wish someone would be my reason to live like Dokja is to Joonghyuk. Vie Versa too.

I always enjoy it when yjh talks some sense into Dokja. It’s refreshing.

His shabby self-introduction-like words reverberated around the sky.

Those were the things I told Yu Jung-Hyeok some time ago.

This is so long- Um…I love how yjh came into defend Dokja like that. He called Dokja a pathetic fool and a sacrificial no-name random bastard as well. Gives me “no one can make fun of you but me” vibes. He proceeded to tell the tale of Dokja- a version of a tale that even Dokja wasn’t sure of. I mean- describing people in a way that even they don’t recognize is pretty hard. And then he basically told Secretive Plotter to mind his own business .

The wrathful [Breaking the Sky Swordsmanship] mowed the darkness down. The Plotter’s figure wavered around greatly as he was pushed back.

Not missing that small opening, Yu Jung-Hyeok’s sword rained down like a raging storm.

“What is your goal, anyway? If you found Kim Dok-Ja an eyesore, why didn’t you kill him earlier? If you found him using your life to survive that disgusting, then….”

The [Dark Heavenly Demon Sword] was now aiming at the neck of the ‘Secretive Plotter’.

[Constellation, ‘Secretive Plotter’, is glaring at the Incarnation, ‘Yu Jung-Hyeok’.]

The moment when the two gazes collided, Yu Jung-Hyeok asked again.

“Why are you still watching this story?”

Oh periodt. Present bf confronting crazy ex.

the trauma that the 73rd demon realm would’ve given KimCom is spoken about a lot, but I haven’t seen anyone get into the specifics of it. let’s put the focus on yoo joonghyuk and the kids.

as said in the notes of the last reblog, i feel like the real (as he believed) death of kim dokja happening in his arms would’ve deeply affected yjh’s psyche. imagine you find someone who so perfectly contrasts you and then having to kill him. he would’ve thought he lost the man forever. and the fact that the man was in his arms as he turned to dust? it would’ve ruined him because why does everything he touch become ashes and dust? and this is third round yoo jonghyuk. he just got betrayed to hell by anna croft. it’s lucky he didn’t remember, otherwise he would’ve never spoken to dokja again. the contrast between a cradle and a stab to the chest is so intriguing and so depressing. like the symbolism??? the opening to a character psyche????? this is why I like that one fanart (I can’t find it anymore someone help)

Ok I went I on a bit of a tangent so I’ll keep the children short. Of course, killing their father figure was deeply traumatizing. No child should ever have to go through that. And the fact that he encouraged it? I could go so deep into the psychological effects that death still has on the kids afterward. But the thing that’s so jarring to me is the fact that he tells them to “treat this as a game.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but that was the first time he ever “played a game” with them. That action is a moment of bonding between a father and a child. Dokja tried to shed some light into the horrible scenario they found themselves in, but his attempt ended up making everything so much darker. To take such an innocent phrase and distort it until it’s unrecognizable in the garden of death, blood, and mourning…

How’d you get to reading the orv novel?

I started reading the webtoon for a few weeks, but I was left at a cliffhanger (the episode where kdj and yjh reunite and Joonghyuk pulls out his sword at the last panel), so curiosity took over me and I opened up the novel

counterpoint, Kim Dokja’s Company has a name was only made official after Dokja took a three year vacation. If anything, it’s Kim Dokja’s Company because the people who love him desire nothing but his company.

It's called "Kim Dokja's Company" because he is the one thing that links them all, because they all surround Kim Dokja, because Kim Dokja is a lonely existence that has never had company before and the entirety of the novel is his loved ones grasping at straws to remain in his company while keeping HIM company.

It's Kim Dokja’s Company because the lonely child wanted nothing more than to have company and for the people around him to like his company.

not to mention the fact that young people fighting for their lives is typically taken a lot more seriously by the narrative AND the characters. nearly every chapter theyre in, the Kids Table act like real kids and they don’t have the whole world to balance on their tiny soldiers

that one arc where Gilyoung and Yoosung breezed through the scenario because it refused to accept minors as proper players

One of the reasons i love orv so much is that kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk (and a good deal of the cast) are in their late 20s, a small thing that’s really lacking in popular media tbh. Kim dokja is nearly 30 but he’s not the side character/mentor figure. He’s not someone at the end of his story because he’s “old.” Life is starting for him and he’s on this journey filled with ups and down. He finds love in so many forms at such intense levels. As someone approaching 30 as well, someone the world expects to be stable and done and boring, it’s just comforting to know that i can still go on adventures and fall in love and just live.

the parallels between lee gilyoung and kim dokja haunt me. both abused as children, both forcibly removed from their parents, both abandoned by their relatives, both forced to kill to survive at a very young age, both struggle to feel empathy for those they kill because they view it as 'just a game/book'. both survived by becoming obsessed with and projecting onto a vague idolised figure who they view as their saviour........

the kim dokja urge to bond with someone who reminds me of myself and then neglect them when they’re a little too much like me

it’s all fun and games until the ugly extraterrestrial squid you just ate turned out to be your previously dead father/mentor/lover

i love how Kim Dokja's kids solely think about Han Sooyoung as mom's special friend Craig who you like cause he'll take you to mcdonald's when he picks you up from dance practice once a week... while Yoo Joonghyuk is stuck as: Katharina Von Beaumont, Evil stepmother.

anyway one crucial thing i think about a lot is lee gilyoung is 100% happy the apocalypse happened. its heavily implied he was abused in his former home, and he was about to be given away to an orphanage - he was not having a good time at all. and then the apocalypse happens and he gets to talk to bugs and all these cool powers and a family he adores. like there are absolutely the horrors which he hates and resents but i think ultimately lee gilyoung is grateful for the apocalypse, which is something all of kimcom shares at least a little bit.

Lee Gilyoung finally getting used to Kim Dokja’s constant disappearing and reappearing act… only for his Hyung to never reappear again.

Y’all ever think about how Lee Gilyoung’s parents died in a fire and then Kim Dokja’s first death was by dying in a fire?
