What can life offer anyway
That I can't have with you in death?
What feels more like home anyway
Than it does besides your grave?

MARAUDERS HEADCANON
When Lily and James started dating everyone at Hogwarts started to call them Jily, and they were both so happy about it.
But then, the other marauders called them Lames and they hated it. Sirius laughed so much when the first time he called them that.
The couple decided that they needed a name to call themselves when they were alone. When Remus heard this, he said to Lily in one of their classes:
Flowerpot
And she burst out laughing because, she LOVED it.
I am pretty sure that if the roles were reversed, if Lily would've ended up with Snape for some reason (eew) and had a child with him for some reason (double ew), and James would've been a teacher at Hogwarts, he would've acted differently.
Of course it would've hurt him that Lily fell for Snape and not him. But I am sure he would accept it at the end. Because he saw that Lily was happy. And I am sure he would even apologize to Snape for everything and become friends with Lily.
And most importantly, he wouldn't treat their son badly. Because he would see him as Lily's son. Not as Snape's son. He would protect that kid and tell him about his parents. Especially about his mother.
"Yeah I knew your father and I wasn't very nice with him at first. And I am sorry for that. But I think in the end he was a good man... And your mom? She was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. And I liked her. But she loved your father not me... So it's fine... And we became friends at the end"
And he would tell this kid all he needs to know about his parents. How they met and how they fell in love and how much they love him. How they sacrificed for him.
James would treat this kid with kindness. Because he is his own person and it didn't matter what happened with his parents in the past.
"And if you ever want to talk to me or ask me about your parents, I am right here... Okay?"
And he would probably move on and fall in love again and marry someone else. He would not be obsessed with a dead person.
Pretty different attitude, right?
Fuck you, Snape.
So I was on Tiktok today and saw a video on Jegulus, Jegulus haters, and it [the vid] ended saying “everyone’s against misogyny until the women isn't with the man”.
And in the comment section there were people literally complaining about the fact that the most common Lily tag is “Lily Potter” instead of “Lily Evans”. They were saying that they didn’t like it because Lily deserves to be her own person and not tied to a man. That she’s more than just a wife.
And yes, that is 100% correct. She is her own person, she doesn’t need a man, and she is more than just a wife. But what does her last name being Potter have to do with that? Just cause her last name changed doesn’t mean she’s no longer herself.
She’s still very much her own person, with her own thoughts, emotions, opinions, and etc. She doesn’t need a man, but she wanted James. She wanted to marry him, to take his last name, to have his kid. Those were all choices she made, they made together. Her taking her husband’s last name, the man in which she loved, doesn’t make her any less of a strong, independent, woman. She can be all those things, and more, and still be in love with a man. Still be married. Still be a mother and a wife. There’s nothing wrong with that.
This goes for all of the women, mothers, and wives in this fandom. Which ironically, I don’t hear them complaining about this stuff for the other characters. Like Andromeda Tonks, Narcissa Malfoy, and Bellatrix Lestrange all having their husbands last names instead of their maiden names “Black”.
