If you haven’t laughed yet today, let me remind you that when Alex sent his first email to Henry he signed it “First Son of Your Former Colony and when Henry wrote back he addressed Alex as “First Son of Off-Brand England”

I have so much appreciation for this whole movie, but this scene in particular. The way it was executed is absolutely impeccable. There is so much emotion woven into every individual pixel.

The way they look at each other; Henry’s expressions especially hold so much power. You can feel how in awe he is of what’s happening. And Alex’s expressions are so tender; the way he’s being so gentle and pressing their foreheads together. And how Alex takes his cues from Henry because Henry has more experience and he’s nervous. There’s a beautiful give and take to it in the way that Henry is so clearly overwhelmed with emotion and relying on Alex to hold him together while Alex follows his lead and lets Henry guide them both through it.

This is such a powerful and passionate scene; it’s not vulgar or crude in any way, just beautiful. Every possible thing that could have been conveyed through this one scene translated perfectly; that’s love, they’re in love, there’s no room for denial.

spoilers for the RWRB movie:

I’ve never seen a sex scene in a film or tv show so emotionally charged in my life. I felt the love and trust Alex and Henry had in and for one another in that scene. I felt like I was intruding on their moment I almost couldn’t watch it.

I know some people liked the book because of its many sexy scenes and were excited about seeing that on screen but I think the sensuality shown in between Alex and Henry during their first time making love together was better than anything I could have ever hoped for.

ok, i have to say this before i say anything else about the rwrb movie:

when the book came out, it was groundbreaking. it was one of the first true queer rom coms. this movie is now even more groundbreaking.

yes, some depth and detail was lost from the book, but that’s bound to happen in any adaptation. but before we complain about that, let’s ask ourselves:

exactly how many fluffy, fairy tale, sexy, funny, sugary, queer romance movies are there? you could probably count them all on one hand, and most of them probably aren’t major studio releases.

queer people deserve silly romcom movies too. queer people deserve to see themselves in tender, uncensored intimate moments on screen too. and, correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m pretty sure this is the first time a major motion picture has explicitly mentioned truvada/PrEP and included a conversation between a parent and child about safe queer sex. like…queer people don’t get shit like this, and now we do. and that’s a big deal.
