Does anyone else feel the absolute need to see Stanley Tucci as Gavril in The Selection movies?

So excited that the 3 in 1 box of the selection series finally arrived. Iām so happy that I can finally Re-read the series again!!šš
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

Empty cafes & to do lists... āļøšš¤
I LOVE characters who are crazy powerful but their biggest fear is likeā¦bugs. Theyāre holding onto a chair and screaming at the centipede like āI have fought and killed primordial beings bent on apocalypseā¦but THAT FUCKING BUGā¦NO.ā

I cast a look out of the window.
In this display of continuing lives I see children playing, these ebullient beings, ever so innocent, ever so free.Ā
They run with elfin faces, letting their feet mangle the leaves with an enlivening crunch; the cry of natureās presence and of our biased predominance. Ā Ā
Theyāre savoring.
I contemplate them, feeling the reminiscence suffusing, letting it enslave me to corrosion.Ā
A grin crawls out from the crevices of my lips.
They donāt know how much they should cherish those moments of raw liberty.Ā
Once they do, they will never be emancipated.

Been reading a lot of chapter books with my son, often during meal times now since the chai tea incident after which my laptop no longer turns on. That was a blessing in disguise!
The is a recent favorite - āThe Wild Robotā by Peter Brown. The story is about a cute robot named Roz who gets stuck on an island and makes friend with animals by being kind and helpful. Itās sooo cute, and there are lots of opportunities to do funny voices which I love.
Also, the book deals with a lot of great themes like parenting and diversity, and there is a darker dystopian setting in the background to give it some adult appeal without ruining the lighthearted and upbeat nature of the story.
Overall, a super fun read and both my son and I enjoyed it immensely! Iām excited to have found out thereās a sequel, so thatās something to look forward to, and a great idea for a Christmas present to us both in a few months :)

Book recommendations based on your favourite authors
1. Oscar Wilde
Edward St Aubyn - Patrick Melrose

If you love Oscar Wilde i would recommend St. Aubyn's amazing novels. They are full of wit, cunning irony, upper - class critisicm and dry humor.
2. William Shakespeare
Margaret Atwood - Hagseed

Part of the "Hogarth Shakespeare Series" this is a brillant retelling of Shakespeares play the tempest.
3. Lewis Carroll
Michael Ende - Momo

Similar to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, Ende takes us on a young girl's magical journey in which she has to bring back the "stolen time".
4. Stephen King
David Mitchell - Slade House
Stephen King himself recommended this suspensful novel about an abnormal house: āHard to imagine a more finely wrought and chilling tale of the supernatural. One of the rare great ones.ā
5. Suzanne Collins
Koushun Takami - Battle Royale

This book has a very similar storyline to Collins great Hunger Games Saga: a class of junior high school students is taken to a deserted island where they are provided arms and forced to kill one another until only one survivor is left standing.
6. Jane Austen
Goethe - Elective Affinities

A love story just as sharming and complicated as Jane Austen's beloved works: Eduard and his wife Charlotte enjoy a quiet but idle life in their estate, when their piece is fastly thrown into chaos as he invites his friend the Captain and she invites her niece Ottilie to stay with them: a story of forbidden love begins to grow as they both form attraction to their guests.

Mozart and his weird sense of humor

āI wish you good night, shit in your bed all your might.ā
"Oh my ass burns like fire.ā (To his cousin)
"Write to me and don't be so lazy. Otherwise I shall have to give you a thrashing. What fun! I'll break your head." - (To his sister)
"To every good friend I send my greet feet; addio nitwit. Love true true true until the grave, if I live that long and do behave." - (To his cousin)
In 1782, Mozart wrote a six-voice canon. The canonās title translates to āLick Me In The Assā :
"Lick my ass nicely,
lick it nice and clean,
nice and clean, lick my ass.
Thatās a greasy desire,
nicely buttered,
like the licking of roast meat, my daily activity.
Three will lick more than two,
come on, just try it,
and lick, lick, lick.
Everybody lick his own ass himself."
āYesterday, though, we heard the king of farts/ It smelled as sweet as honey tarts/ While it wasnāt in the strongest of voice/ It still came on as a powerful noise.ā (To his mother)
There is a whole wiki only dedicated to Mozart and his love for ass jokes:
Most underrated movies of the last decade
1. Filth (2013)

One of the greatest movies of the last decade, maybe McAvoy's best performance ever: A tragic, funny, absolutely unapologetic movie about the downfall of a scottish police officer.
2. Swiss Army Man (2016)

I promise that you have never seen a movie like this before. It is absolutely strange, macabre and loaded with dark humor: a man stranded on a deserted island tries to keep his sanity by talking to a corpse (Daniel Radcliffe).
3. Rush (2013)

RushĀ is a 2013Ā biographicalĀ sports filmĀ centred on rivalryĀ between twoĀ Formula One drivers, the BritishĀ James HuntĀ and the AustrianĀ Niki Lauda during theĀ 1976 Formula 1Ā motor-racing season. One of the best Sport Dramas out there.
4. Mother! (2017)

I know some people dislike this movie but I think it is one of Aronosfky's masterpieces. A political, philosphical and brutal allegory of the destruction of our planet brilliantly acted by Jennifer Lawrence.
5. The Flowers of War (2011)

Watching this movie was one of the most eye-opening experiences for me: An American (Christian Bale) tries to protect a group of Chinese students and prostitutes from Japanese soldiers in 1937 Nanjing.
6. Sheperds and Butchers (2016)

A different kind of "true crime story": A lawyer takes on the murder case of a prison guard traumatized by the executions he took part in.
7. Slow West (2015)

The cinematography in this is beautiful: A bounty hunter keeps his true motive a secret from the naive Scottish teenager he's offered to serve as bodyguard and guide while the youth searches for his beloved in 1800s Colorado.
8. Enemy (2013)

This movie will mess with your head: A college Professor (Jake Gyllenhaal) discovers a man who looks and talks exactly like him. A strange tale of what is true and what is fictional begins to unravel.
9. La grande bellezza (2013)

This arthouse movie is for the ones who look for deep conversations, philosopical questions and the horrors and beauties of everyday life. A slow paced and hugely moving tale about modern italy.
10. The Lighthouse (2019)

Everything about this movie is top notch: the acting, the story, the visuals. A modern masterpiece that has the chance of becoming a classic: Two lighthouse keepers are stranded on an island as they slowly dive into insanity.
Thoughts on Books from a Non-Reader
How Do You Live by Genzaburo Yoshino

As you read from above, I call myself a "non-reader", but really what I'm trying to communicate is that I don't think I've read books for fun since the fourth grade. I've had spells here where I've tried to read extensively but after one book I just never got back into it. These set of notes I'm going to make will hopefully keep me motivated to read more! These notes aren't for critical analysis of a book (although hopefully it's a skill I develop), but instead are just my thoughts on what I've read. Spoilers ahead...
Now on the book: WOWZA! I think this has to be my favorite book I've ever read (which is not saying much lol since I don't have a lot to compare it to). This book was written to be an ethics book that ended a series of books referred to as Nihon Shosan Bunko Bunko. The story follows Copper, a 15 year old boy who has recently lost his father, and how he develops as a young adult morally. He is supported by his uncle, who writes journal entries giving advice to Copper on how to lead a great life. The story alternates between the lived experiences and reflections that Copper has and journal entries that his uncle writes for him. As someone who thinks a lot about the kind of person I want to be, I really appreciated the lessons on "Copernican" ways of thinking, relations of production, poverty, and regret. Even if some of the lessons shared in the book are things that I feel to be true for myself, it makes me really happy to know that Copper has someone as kind as his uncle helping him develop as a person (I know these aren't real people but it still made me really happy).
"I think I have to try to be a truly good person. As you said, I am an expert consumer, and I donāt produce anything. Unlike Uragawa, I couldnāt produce anything even if I wanted to. Still, I can become a good person. I can become a good person and create one good person for the world."
I really loved Copper as a character. He is extremely conscientious and really thinks about the impact of his actions on other people and the world at large. How he grieves for his father wasn't explored all that much in the story, but I imagine that his father would be extremely proud of the life Copper is choosing to live. Before he passed, Copper's father wanted him to become "a fine example of a human being". To know that Copper is working so earnestly towards fulfilling his father's final wish fills me with an indescribable joy.
Overall, this book is a 10/10 for me and I think it was the perfect start for me to get back into reading! I'm currently in the middle of Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata and Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura. If anyone has any book recommendations for me, I would love to become a mutual and hear them from you! I would especially love the recommendations of any South Asian authors (as someone who is South Asian myself). Please share whatever thoughts you have!

BookĀ recommendations
The last post was my song recommendations and I wanna do something similar to that in this too, which is books! As for me, Iām a book lover, I hope thereās someone who loves books like me, find this helpful. Maybe youāve read everything but letās get to it.Ā
1. Think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill
( I gotta say this is the greatest of all times one. Very helpful for us. Many people already knew this but I just had to put it in the list.)
2. Being a happy teenager by Andrew MatthewsĀ
( Just as the title suggested, Iām pretty sure I donāt have to explain further. This book helped me a lot growing up. Definitely a must for teens like myself.)
3. Making friends by Andrew Matthews
( Another book by my favourite author. This is for those whoās socially awkward or when youāre having trouble in social life. It helped me make a lot of friends when I also used to have social anxiety.)
4. Donāt sweat the small stuff and itās small stuff by Richard Carlson
( People overthink small stuff which they shouldnāt. In this book, youāll see why you shouldnāt and how. I used to overthink all the time and honestly still do, I really needed this.)
5. How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie
( This one is a must have. Iām guessing a lot of people or book lovers have read this masterpiece, if you havenāt, I recommend you to check it out.)
My book recommendations list ends here, but if you want me to make another one and if you love this list, just let me know. It would mean so much for me. Also, I usually read these kinds of books but if you want novel recommendations or something similar, let me know. Thank you, I wish whoeverās reading good luck and good day.Ā

It's all in the genes. I had heard so much about my Grandmamma who I've never met. About how much she loved reading and how head-strong she was. Everyone used to tell me how very much alike her. I'd feel so overwhelmed with that comparison because she's been such a role model for me. My father told me how much she was into books and that she had huge collection which my father has preserved and he'd give it to me when we had the space and when I was ready for it. Yesterday we opened the first among the two trunks and the smell of that a century old books hit me with so much unknown bliss. Running my fingers over those books, I felt I was meeting my Grandmamma. She hadn't gone to school and studied but she had that thirst of knowledge and she collected all this on her own to quench her thirst. It is full of Kannada books. My father welled up a bit as he went through the memory lane and I did too. I took a few books which I felt I could read and I felt I was taking a part of her that I could carry with me. It also had a few books which I've wanted to read and it showed how much our reading taste matched. It's all in the genes. I love you Grandmamma š #miracleswords ___________________________________________ #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #booklover #bookworm #books #bookish #booknerd #bibliophile #bookaddict #booksofinstagram #reading #bookphotography #bookaholic #readersofinstagram #tbr #bookblogger #instabook #booklove #bookshelf #bookcommunity #read #reader #blogger #booksthroughgenerations #bookobsessed #readingslump #writingquotes (at Namma Bengaluru- ą²Øą²®ą³ą²® ą²¬ą³ą²ą²ą²³ą³ą²°ą³) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC0A9-gF9O2/?igshid=m3oyxm13w7oc
