How to Draw Native People: a Tutorial/Reference Guide
As requested, here is a basic guide for how to draw Indigenous peoples (mostly focused on North America)! Also please note that this is not an exhaustive list of Native American phenotypes/features, and more like an intro on very common features that can be found in us, and even then, not altogether at once on a single person’s face. I highly encourage the use of references and care taken into research when drawing. I may do a part 2 that goes slightly more into depth, but for now, enjoy part one.

Gotta love some artist tips

I have some older art tips that I keep forgetting to post here. I'll add a few in the next few days, at least those that aren't too outdated!
This one is about giving an extra feel of weight to your characters.
Hey there! Random question but I'm curious, how would you go about drawing chainmail? I have a D&D character that has chainmail under their armour and every time I try to draw them I'll start off by drawing all the links by hand then it gets way too tedious so I go look for chainmail pattern on google and paste it lmao but it feels like I'm cheating by doing that, and it clashes with the style I'm going for. I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks?
I don’t feel particularly great at drawing chain-mail either but there’s a technique I learned from a tutorial a bunch of years ago that I think makes a pretty good texture. It’s fast and the end result is cartoon-y enough to match a less photo-realistic style. I can’t for my life find the tutorial so I’ll recreate it here (using Photoshop):
1. Fill your canvas with black or white. Filter -> Render -> Clouds

2. Filter -> Filter Gallery -> Glass (under the Distort category)Keep smoothness as low as possible, play with the other settings

3. Find a filter in Filter Gallery that you like and apply it. Combine them, if needed.

4. When applying texture to the drawing, use Edit->Transform->Warp to make it fit the shape you’re trying to convey

You can stack more filters on after the texture is placed or draw over it with a textured brush to make it look less uniform if that’s what you want. Add a shine to it with a big soft brush, colorize it, go crazy. I go with whatever looks best to me atm.
This is how I did Geralt’s armor too, though since I knew the final print will be smaller than 1.5″ I didn’t worry about details much.

Hope that helps!

i know you are joking but OP, this is perfect color theory! The white black and blue are the major colors of the picture, i suppose you can call this "pallete 1", which is fine. white and black are neutral and go well with anything the pink, yellow, green, purple, blue and yellow bits are smaller and detailed bits, this is what is known as the minor colors of the picture, which is important to any picture so it doesn't strain the eyes. the multi colors appear to have a similar value and distance away from each other on the color wheel, making a "poly-chromatic" color scheme. Totally valid. This is basically my nerdy way of saying: Fam don't worry about it, your shit looks pretty as fuck. anyways here is a video that is helpful!

once my debit card comes in the mail ill be able to get money, and ill sell it on hoodies and tshirts and stuff on Teepublic hehehehe
Howwww do you even begin to figure out folds no matter how hard I try they never look right

It's all triangles. References and a mirror/camera are your best friend. If you can't find the perfect angle on google images, make your own ref! Think in physics! I like to pretend I'm a 3d modeling program cloth simulation on a model. (Somehow this is how I made a breakthrough and figured it out. gif below of what i imagine in my noggin)

How I pratice drawing things, now in a tutorial form. The shrimp photo I used is here Please support me on patreon so I can make more tutorials! :)
Just a reminder to stop collecting art tutorials and start actually doing them lmao

How to draw anything

A simple guide to picking a great color palette. No matter what the colors are, using colors that are certain distances from each other on the color wheel result in a great contrast of colors. The simple color schemes shown above are used in the most popular logos, posters, websites, paintings, and even movies and television.

I just went back through over 900 liked posts and dug out all the art tutorials so i can keep track of them. I guess this might be helpful to some of you guys, so here you go.
Here we go then!
Freeware
Alchemy - this is a really fun program. You play around making abstract shapes until you start to see something in them, kind of like a Rorschach test. Then you use the shapes as a base to draw it from. MyPaint - a pretty decent painting program that also has the benefit of working on Unix systems. openCanvas 1.1 - I haven’t used openCanvas in years but it was a nice program with a pretty unique feel to it. ArtRage - Only used this a couple of times donkey’s years ago just before I got oC, but I’ve heard good things about it. The GIMP - In a similar vein to Photoshop, but free. I couldn’t get on with it when I tried it out a few years ago, but it’s pretty popular and is available on Unix systems and Macs.
Sketchbook copic: a bit different program
Not-free-ware
Photoshop - Standard painting fare. Probably the most flexible program (particularly the latest versions) but not designed to act in a “natural” way. If you’ve used it for painting versus something like Painter you know what I mean. Who the fuck pays for it though? Google “Photoshop tumblr masterpost” and take your pick. Paint Tool Sai - Far more affordable and definitely worth paying for if you can. The brushes are very decent (especially when they’ve been tweaked a little), the gui is simple and intuitive, and I dare you to find a program with which making smooth lineart is easier. Corel Painter - My program of choice for most things. More tools than you could ever possibly use and pretty cheap on a student license, providing that you can prove you’re a student! It’s got a few bugs but if you want realism or a more natural feel than PS or SAI this is the program for you.
