Willow Project - Tumblr Posts
hey guys sorry no funnyposting today this is very important and scary to me as someone in alaska and i can explain why
biden is very close to accepting conocophilips' proposed "willow project," a $8 billion oil and gas project spanning 30 years in the arctic/alaska. it would open up approx. 629 million barrels of oil and produce approx. 287 million metric tons of carbon dioxide over the next 30 years. this will singlehandedly fucking destroy the planet. it will kill off humans, plants, animals, etc. itll ruin the planet and its irreversible once put into action.
the arctic is already melting horribly quickly (and while it should be noted this is not just about the arctic, but the whole earth, it is important to remember that the arctic is warming 4x faster than the rest of the planet). the willow project will force creatures out of their habitats into areas unsuited for them to survive in. if that doesnt kill them, the mass ammounts of carbon dioxide produced will.
please, do as much as you can. sign petitions. spread awareness. let people know what will happen if this project is approved. its said to be a 30 year project, but we wont make it past 2023 if its put into action.
here is another petition and here is a way to take more action. please please please do whatever you can

Please sign this petition, or we could be in some serious danger

Heya! It would be great if u guys could take some time for this petitionn
The Willow Master Development Plan is the largest proposed oil development project on public lands. Willow would emit more climate pollution annually than more than 99.7% of all single point sources in the country. This project would completely encircle the Iñupiat village of Nuiqsut with oil development, increasing the health risks for the community and surrounding environment. While the majority of Iñupiat are in support of this project, there are still many Iñupiat and other Arctic Indigenous people that oppose this project and its consequences. With the concerns of the environment, climate, and Indigenous communities, it is vital that the Willow Project is declined.

This isn’t my usual content as I’m someone who rather tries to be positive and make people happy when the rest of the internet talks about the negativity of the world.
But President Biden just approved the willow project, which is a project to sale Western Arctic for oil drilling, despite multiple protests and petitions from people around the world begging for it to not happen, including the indigenous people who live on the land itself.
Not only does this go against Bidon’s promise to help the environment and our planet, but could mean a massive set back to everything we’ve worked towards helping Earth. I will not go into the details of what that exactly is , as it’s honestly very upsetting information to hear, and as there’s many articles who better explain it then myself.
But hope is not lost, we just got to keep fighting
There’s still petitions around , people protesting and spreading the news. The drilling will likely not happen till 2027, we still have time

You can use this letter template.
President Biden,
With a projected lifespan of 30 years and accumulated greenhouse gas emissions of more than 280 million metric tons, ConocoPhillips’ massive Willow project in Alaska would be – if approved by your administration – a carbon bomb.
Now that the Bureau of Land Management recently recommended approval of the drilling plan, this is a good time to pause and remember that America’s Arctic is warming about four times faster than the rest of the planet, causing permafrost to melt and Arctic communities to literally be consumed by the sea.
In a display that would be comedic if it weren’t so absurd, ConocoPhillips is literally deploying equipment to refreeze and stabilize permafrost so they can continue to extra destructive fossil fuels from beneath the tundra.
You campaigned for the presidency on a promise to “lead the world to address the climate emergency and lead through the power of example.” You assured the nation that we would achieve a 100-percent clean energy economy and net-zero emissions by 2050.
But with a projected 30-year lifespan, in 2050 Willow would still be pumping out greenhouse gases, and its infrastructure would have resulted in more widespread oil development in the Western Arctic.
You have the power to defuse this carbon bomb. Please, for your climate legacy and the health of the world, reject BLM’s shortsighted recommendation. Stop Willow with a formal record of decision that selects a “no action” alternative
