Public Transportation - Tumblr Posts
Me arriving in the wrong ass station completely lost and confused with how Lisbon works.

Yes and people are completely isolated from each other. The idea of being in a confined space with someone you didn’t choose is terrifying. It’s true that people DO talk to you on public transportation but usually it’s to ask if you need help with the super high bike rack thingy or to ask you if we already passed a stop. Americans (in my experience) have such atrophied basic human interaction skills that these interactions seem frightening. The good news is if you take public transportation those skills form and you reap the rewards of reading a book on your way to work instead of muttering to yourself in traffic.
People who have never taken public transit before seem to be under the impression that everyone on a bus is ready to stab you meanwhile I have never had that problem and I get to read while I’m stuck in traffic and they don’t.
Also I don’t get stuck in traffic much anyways because the drivers keep going on the freeway even though it gets clogged up with traffic and it’s literally faster to drive on the surface streets where the busses go but whatever I don’t need to pay for a gym membership because I walk to the bus and meanwhile what are you spending your money on? Oil changes so you can keep getting stuck in traffic?
I do wonder how many problems in America would be solved by actually investing in infrastructure. I have a feeling that it would be a lot
Actually decent cross-country transportation (I know that a plane would be better, but I want to be able to reach Los Angeles from New York and back again via train [It's not that longer than Paris to Moscow, which does have a train route]{I don't know how many people would actually use it, but if that route exist then it would probably be easier to connect the rest of the country, so I still want it.}) Constantly maintained roads for cars if you have to.
A better funded public sector and better paid public services (I don't want teachers to have to choose between supplies and rent, and I want said teacher to have an actually good curriculum for the kids).
At the very least, an easily understandable health insurance system (because unfortunate, a NHS-esque system is "unproven" and "too radical" and "supporting the poor communist").
While we were here, could we have a Universal Basic Income? I'm fine if it's just fixed at whatever the poverty line is at as long as we actually get it man.

You mean…
Train compartments? That was a standard in old trains in Poland. Newer trains usually have carriages without compartments.
So I'm very much against private cars and pro public transportation, like many of you. But I was thinking, really the one thing I think I would miss about cars if I was able to take public transit everywhere, is that my car gives me a private little space, where I can sing or make phone calls or joke around with my friends, etc.
But then! I realized that if we had a robust train system, there could just be private cars in the trains. Like you know, in old timey movies, or uhhh like the Hogwarts train. And we could probably even make them somewhat soundproof if we tried.
In fact, when I was watching HANNA with my family last weekend, the characters were taking a lot of trains around Europe, and I'm pretty sure one of them, I think it may have been German? It seemed to have a similar private car set up. Like the character was sitting in her own little compartment with glass windows, and it opened onto a hallway that led to other compartments.
Anyway, that's something I realized about trains. I think if we had that here, that would be dope.
Oh, I think I would also miss using my car as storage. But that's probably more of a me problem regarding my anxious and hoarder tendencies.
250 people per train car sounds inaccurate (that’s how many people can fit to light rail 2 car trains in my area), but 66/67 people on the bus sounds reasonable.
„my averege bus” can hold up to 80-90 people - unarticulated city bus with about 20-30 sitting places.
If you count articulated buses - you can fit 140 people in them (40 sitting places)

Perhaps I'm way too easily entertained but getting on a bus and finding no one else on it might have just made my day
If you take the bus, wave to the driver and thank them as you're getting off the bus.
Being a bus driver is an underappreciated and difficult job but still very vital to society. They still have to do customer service and deal with rude and even aggressive passengers, and on top of that have to deal with traffic and other drivers all day (and let's face it, there's a lot of bad drivers out there who aren't considerate about sharing the road). All while providing an invaluable service of getting us where we need to go. Showing them some appreciation can go a long ways for someone doing such an important job that usually gets little to no recognition or thanks.

Slime mold was grown on an agar gel plate shaped like America and food sources were placed where America’s large cities are.
The result? A possible look at how to best build public transportation.
I just really like the idea of slime mold on a map of the US. It’s beautiful.

We need an adult conversation about transit.
Me: okay, I have to be at work by 8am and I have to get the bus. I’ll get to the bus stop at 6:45 so I won’t miss the bus.
The bus; Yeahh, think I’ll be over 20mins late, just for funzies <3
I wouldn’t know… the public transit in ATL sucks ;(
Public transit is great because:
Guess who just spent an hour on the wrong bus going the wrong direction and missed their first class of the day!!!!

荒川都電 (by yokko..)
got on the bus happened to see someone's phone screen they are making a note in their scripture app and it is titled "if I were a mobster"
further investigation reveals that playing pokemon go on a moving city bus is significantly easier. which is why I was not posting on tumblr this morning
so it turns out playing pokemon go on a moving transcontinental train is kind of hard. which is why I keep making tumblr posts instead
