im currently reading the 4th Percy Jackson book. Send help. I can't do this shit, what if something happens to my boy Tyson?

that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.

Ok, so little long story that nobody cares about but i think its funny.

So, one day i was reading PJO in class, and it was the first time Nico di Angelo appeared and i was so excited and i was like "OMFG Nico! I love Nico so much! OMG!" But guess what... My stupid ass said that out loud... The good part is that I said it low

The fricking bad part is that there's a

guy in my class named Nico, with whom I have such a hate-friend relationship and with whom I get shipped a LOT. And he was like two seats away for me. And he turned to see me.

But I'm fast as hell so i said to my friend (who was sitting next to me) "Hey! Nico di Angelo appeared in the book! I love him sm!" And thats it.

A goddess, one Annabeth didn't recognize, popped up suddenly behind Annabeth and lunged at her immediately, holding her drakon-rib sword just barely out of her reach.

"Foolish demigod," the Lady hissed, "tricking my mother like you have. she may not have realized how badly you fooled her just yet, but i have. For your hubris I will send you where that little boy you love so much cannot follow."

She moved, pulling Annabeth with her, too quickly for Annabeth to see where they were going until they stopped, where the goddess held Annabeth by the throat over the void of Chaos.

"have fun, little demigod," and Annabeth fell.

She woke up on the beach at camp and looked around. Her sword was beside her, but Percy was nowhere to be seen.

"Percy?" Annabeth called out.

"Yes?" a young blond boy replied confusedly from where he was losing badly at chess to a black girl.

A black girl who had Annabeth's dagger. The one she shattered in Rome

Okay, so I watched the Percy Jackson series, sadly didn't get to watch the eps after ep 5 due to no longer having the subscription and had to look for the scenes of Ep 6 and 7, and there's one thing I don't think anyone pointed out yet, which I think was made clear in Ep 7.

Poseidon in the books called Sally "a goddess amongst women", he said that he hasn't met someone like her for a thousand years. The TV series makes this very clear about Sally. She challenges the way of the Gods, and was even open about it with Poseidon.

THIS is the woman that Poseidon fell in love with.

I cannot make this any more clear, Poseidon fell in love with Sally the same way Annabeth would fall for Percy.

Because Sally changed him. Poseidon had to live with the ways of his family for a very, very long time. But when he met Sally, his perpective changes. She showed him another way. That there could be better. Just like how Annabeth, who used to live for glory, once held the same views like everyone else, was changed by Percy's kindness, and strong beliefs that it isn't right. That there has to be more than just this.

Poseidon fell in love with Sally because she was better than him. She was better than those his family.

I think some part of Poseidon was already kind of unhappy with it. We know what happens when mortals challenges the Gods in the myths. But Poseidon fell in love. Hard. Despite all the risks.

It makes the whole thing more painful for Poseidon, because as a God, he still has to abide the strict rules that his family has. No matter how wrong it is now. When he meets Sally he acknowledges that Percy will always be Sally's son. And because he is Sally's son, he will be better than the gods, just like his mother.

Now, just imagine Poseidon secretly hardcore shipping Percabeth because of how they remind him of his summer love with Sally. IMAGINE. Athena just angry and Poseidon just being all giddy about Percy's girlfriend lmao (I mean, if you think abt it, he was fine with them kissing in his domain-)

percy — he and sally went/still go on grocery trips, and he rants to annabeth if the price goes up. want to know how the economy's doing? ask percy about bread prices.

demigods who do not know how much an average loaf of bread from the store costs:

annabeth — maybe back when she was with luke and thalia, but she's been in camp half-blood for most of her life. bread just appears on a plate in front of her, who is she to question it.

frank — he's a nepo baby.

hazel — she's been dead for 70 years. seeing what the price has been inflated to now may kill her.

jason — he was raised by wolves. lupa does not have time to worry about the inflation rate of bread.

nico — he was cut off from modern society for 70 years.

piper — she's also a nepo baby. and she spent a lot of time shoplifting, so the illusion of cost doesn't apply to her.

ok but the percy being a descendant of venus by mother headcanon does make sense Hear me out

it would explain why percy is more fluent in latin than most of the other greek demigods and also how he is described as straight up GORGEOUS. gorgeous enough for hazel to think he was a roman god. A roman god in disguise (which, by the way, is confirmed to be a huge compliment considering that percy said in the calice of the gods that you could recognize a god in disguise by the fact that they tend to make themselves look a little too perfect)

how sally is also "strikingly beautiful" in canon and i do not remember where but im pretty sure she has also been described to look like a "warrior princess" or something along that and descending from a goddess of love would explain how she managed to attract poseidon despite not having any characteristic related to the stuff poseidon is the god of (most gods chose their mortal partners based on that; ex. wills mother being a singer or annabeths dad a professor) also apollo in the trials of apollo saying that he understood why poseidon was attracted and if he were still a god would have tried hitting on her too

Also! the swan being one of aphrodites/venus sacred animals but at the same time a symbol of loyalty. and whats percys fatal flaw? loyalty

PJO-fan confession

I don’t like the Percy Jackson movies. I hate them completely. The writing sucks, the acting , for the most part, sucks, it lacks any soul or identity, and it is absolutely nothing like the books.

...But the thing is, if it weren’t for those stupid movies, I would’ve never have tried picking up the books.

I would’ve never been curious enough to pick them up and give them a read. And because of that dumbass first movie, i was able to read the first book out of interest and see how the books were far better than the movies. I was able to realize what I was missing out on and become a full-on Percy Jackson fanboy.

I know that they’re stupid. They really are! But for people like me, a generation that was introduced to the books through the movie, they were the Mrs. Dodds that horrifically dragged me into the world and inadvertently set me on a path to the real Camp Halfblood of the books, the beginning of a quest that no monster or crappy adaptation can pull me out of.

addendums: cult classic tv overlaps with early supernatural seasons somewhat, i am aware, just choose based on the cultural context in which you read your first fic.

for weeaboo crew i was thinking of examples like hetalia, black butler, soul eater, etc--popular anime absolutely included but the distinction is that people who were into dragon ball weren't necessarily going to anime club every week and making deviantart stamps about yaoi, but people into ouran high school host club ABSOLUTELY were.

homestuck is in its own category because homestuck changed fandom forever at a critical time which just happened to be when i was growing up in fandom. harry potter, lotr, star wars, and twilight are in their own categories because they were such multimedia juggernauts they had entire archives dedicated solely and only to their fic that spanned multiple franchise reboots (books -> movies -> extended universes). (i acknowledge star trek technically would fit under this but at the time culturally it had more overlap with other cult classic tv fandoms.)

honorable mentions that didn't make it to the list because i had to pick-and-choose with the 12 answer limit: the final fantasy franchise (axed because i am not familiar enough with the fic scene to know if it was as iconic of a gateway drug as, like, naruto or twilight or star wars fic), a general YA lit category (YA lit outside of twilight only went mainstream slightly after this time period), the MCU (i have a hate boner for the MCU), a broader "american superhero comics" category (this would be valid as an option but i don't have the space)
