I really hope they won't lukewarm the entire pvz conflict, compared to game lore the economic structures and nature of oppression in arcane are less defined (that's how you get the piltover did nothing wrong brilliant takes from people) then in the game lore. Like in game lore zaun was literally created by the mindless greed of the rich people and they outsourced them the work that created the most pollution.

Piltover was indefensible, and it's still in arcane if you ask me, but it was in a more aperent way.

Not to mention the implications for other characters, not just the oblivious like Camille. Viktor and Jayce are basically different people, where was Renata up until now, and what's up with Blitz? I will be seriously frustrated if they take their creation away from Viktor. (the way they could stole credit for Blitz's creation was another way to show the powerlessness of the people of zaun in piltover too)

Overall I'm really unhappy with this decision and I really don't think this will bring as many new players into the game as they think...

it took a lot of asking but riot finally deigned to discuss the lore of their billion dollar video game franchise

i absolutely called it that riot was going to retcon the Brackern/Hextech connection out of existence, but i didn't call that they'd use Arcane as the excuse to do it with. i thought they'd just quietly retcon it away with the skarner update without offering much explanation.

they say they're going to give seraphine an update to fit the new status of hextech which made me laugh a bit because, like, y'all already retconned her lore to hell and back when it turned out you had severely failed to read the tone of her connection to the brackern and launched her with a story that essentially implies she uses slave labor to be a pop star. I remember fucking marc merrill throwing the writers under the bus on twitter about it like an absolute douchecanoe.

and then, instead of engaging with any of the ways in which seraphine's powers of empathy generation could be incredibly interesting when paired with the brackern narrative that casts them as essentially brutalized victims of colonization for Piltover profit, you just go "uuuuuh, no, wait, she can't hear the brackern actually ha ha ha whoopsie doopsie." like, literally just nerfing her powers, but doing nothing to alleviate the horrible implications. "oh yeah, no, she still uses the enslaved soul of a brutalized species to power her platform, but now she doesn't know she's doing that, which I think we can all agree means the problem is solved."

hopefully they actually give her a new story that engages with her abilities beyond just "she is good at being a pop star" - building on the LoR version of the character, I would hope - but I fear it's more likely they just do the minimum viable edit and just find-delete any reference to consciousness in hex-crystals.

as for skarner himself, well he's Ixtali now so they'll probably still square him up against piltover's colonizing incursions into Ixtal, but more in a "primordial protector of the natural world" kind of way than "lone avenger reclaiming his people's stolen bodies." which, y'know, okay, sure, why not, but I would very much like him to have a more compelling character motivation than "preserve the status quo because nature and balance or something."

my big fear is they'll use the update as an opportunity to make camille a good guy or more sympathetic. like, house ferros made its fortune by selling the souls of a sentient species as batteries, knowingly, and camille was a ideologically committed defender of that decision, and that made her an interesting villain. but they've been humanizing the living hell out of her and i am real worried they're just going to tip straight on over into "oh no the authoritarian enforcer for the bourgeois power structure is sympathetic actually, she's really nice once you get to know her, she's just misguided" and ffffffffff

just... please let camille be evil. let her be a villain, please for the love of god

The Wolf of the Council AU

Plot Summary:

Vander after seeing the carnage of the failed revolution decides to cut out the middle man, and takes his demands directly to the Council. By some miracle the Council allows their audience to his demands. At first most of council member are ready to dismiss the ruffian before Vander can make his full demands, that is until Heimerdinger shows interest in hearing Vander out. Why, who could say, maybe he sees potential in what Vander proposes, maybe its just his nature to aid the desperate, maybe he sees the spark of leader who wants to better his people, a spark he can sympathize with. Either way this allows Vander to list his full demands. Still most of the members disliked the terms, but they were much more willing to debate them. After much discussion a compromise was found. The district, now called Zaun, will still be under rule of Piltover, however it will be an autonomous state, with the ability to determine its own governance. With that only Enforcers approved by the governing body of Zaun may enter. Zaun will also have a representative that will be made a member of the council. And that responsibility falls to Vander.

Now, even after Vander has hung up the gloves, he fights a new challenger, politics. Is the Wolf’s bark as bad as his bite, can he be the voice of Zaun, can he maintain the loyalty and support of the people of Zaun, will he find himself as nothing more than a mouthless figure head, or worse, the council’s tame little lap dog. And as if that wasn’t the worst of it, he is now an adoptive father of four, all he can wish for is that with this position he can give them a better future. All he needs now is that no ghosts come back to haunt him.

It blows my mind that in 2024 there are still people who want to be like "it is 100% all Vi's fault that Jinx is the way she is" or "Jinx is 100% just an ax-crazy hell monster that Vi needs to be saved from" when the entire point of the show is that, yes, both sisters are flawed human beings who have made mistakes, but the true failure lies not with them, but with the overall system that was destined to fail them at every step.

This is most obvious with Powder, who shows signs of her psychosis within the first opening beats of the show, the little scribble hallucinations popping up between her fingers. Powder's mental illness is genetic. Trauma exacerbated her symptoms, but the illness was always there. And there are absolutely no resources in Zaun to give her the care she needed to healthily manage that illness. And the solution isn't "make her a Piltie instead," because Powder wasn't the only Zaunite with mental illness. The problem was that Zaun was in that state of poverty, police brutality, and systemic oppression at all. Powder was failed by by the social structure that killed her parents, that parentified her sister, that ensured she went hungry, was constantly at risk of police brutality, and had no means of accessing adequate mental health care. All of THAT is what led to Jinx.

Oh, and speaking of parentifying her sister — this system failed Vi, too. Not only does Vi also have hallucinations, but Vi never got to be a child from the moment her parents died. She had to be BOTH sister AND surrogate mother to Powder. No, Vander never told her to, but he also does spell it out. Powder, Claggor, and Mylo follow her every word as the oldest. She was their leader. And for Powder especially, she was all they had left of their biological family. Vi stepped into the role willingly, but at an age so young she had no idea what it was she was sacrificing. What she HAD to sacrifice, after her parents were killed, after she and Powder were, yes, rescued by Vander, but Vander could only do so much and had two other kids besides. Vi was only 15 when Powder accidentally killed Vander, Mylo, and Claggor; despite having to sacrifice her childhood, she was still a traumatized adolescent. She should have been allowed to act like it. But the systemic oppression and structure of the Piltover - Zaun setup didn't allow for that. It certainly didn't do her any favors when an enforcer's idea of saving her life was to leave her to rot in a cell indefinitely. The system failed Vi, too. Just like it failed Powder.

Arcane is a tragedy. It's a tragedy in all aspects, but it is primarily a tragedy about two sisters. And the fact that some people want to wholly blame one sister is just beyond me. They've both made mistakes. But they also both had the decks stacked entirely against them from the beginning. That's what makes it a tragedy. It didn't have to be this way. And yet, there's no other way it could have ended.

Saw a post where u/LiterallyNoOneCare on reddit took a screenshot of a map from cupcake’s room and worked some magic to make it readable. I took their map traced a show-accurate map of Piltover for a D&D game I’m running. Before I made this map a few months ago, I assumed that the Undercity was literally underneath Piltover, but that is not the case.

Story Idea: What IF... Mirabel went to the Undercity (Encanto x Arcane: League of Legends crossover)

Hey there, it's been a while since my last post. in honor of the upcoming season 2 of Arcane I bring you another story idea that is free for anyone to try. It is a crossover of Arcane and the Disney movie Encanto. It is basically Mirabel Madrigal going to live in the Undercity of Zaun. Either by running away from Encanto or being kidnapped. Now I think it would be interesting if Mirabel ended up getting along with Jinx. Maybe even going as far as becoming surrogate sisters. Mostly because both were considered outcasts in their respective families. Another idea I have is what if Mirabel ends up in Zaun at a young age and is adopted by Silco before he adopts Powder (jinx) then she becomes like a big sister to Jinx after Vi abandons her. Also, while living in the Undercity Mirabel learns why the Miracle candle didn't grant her a gift because she's actually a mage. She didn't need a magical gift because she was born with magic. So how would you make an Arcane x Encanto crossover?
