Master Fung - Tumblr Posts
No~I just go hear the song!
After listening to “Puff the Magic Dragon” I realize that Dojo’s possessiveness over Master Fung is no longer funny.

haven’t gotten around to drawing this domestic partnership <3
Okay here's an odd one :) Master Fung B7 Wuya E9 and Chase B10 (I put way to much thought into this haha)

who knows what they’re reacting to (probably something dojo did)
What can we learn from Xiaolin Showdown?
Kimiko knows that stereotypes need not apply; Raimundo proves that our past does not define us, but what we learn from it does; Omi teaches us that pride can be both our strength and our downfall; Clay tells us that ‘complicated’ doesn’t always mean ‘efficient;’ Dojo shows that courage can go a long way; Master Fung makes us realize our elders can teach us much; Chase is evidence that even the good can fall.
Tell me this show isn’t amazing.
This but it's Master Fung helping the four dragons-in-training with a level in Goo Zombies

why is omi so,,, hyper when he's evil
i love him but how is that was evil turns him into??
Omi is always hyper enough to speak a mile a minute, zoom around in blurs, and run up the walls. He's an excitable, wide-eyed kid with a lot of energy.

And he's naturally a bloodknight who loves to fight just for the sake of fighting. What we see in Heylin Omi is a genuine part of Omi.

It's just that when Omi is with Master Fung, Master Fung does a pretty good job at having Omi temper it. Especially since Omi really wants to be more like (a child's idea of) a mature adult and proper dragon in Master Fung's eyes. And Omi channels his raw love of fighting towards a specific goal, fighting for Xiaolin good.
The first thing we see of Omi is him running around testing out his moves, and then he proceeds to flit around and crawl up the wall while Master Fung is talking to him, until Master Fung pulls him down and Omi starts acting a little calmer.

Chase brings out Omi's more childish, playful nature in general. You can even see it in his interactions with normal Omi.
Which is notable, because normal Omi knows to keep some sort of cautious distance between himself and Chase, but he still can't help but have fun when they're together.

Since Heylin Omi answers only to Chase, who actively feeds into all Omi's baser impulses, he'll basically just run around unless Chase physically restrains him. And Chase would must rather just indulge Omi's hyperactive bloodlust.
The most Chase tells him to cool it down is "Maybe you'd like to take a rest?" which is notably not an order.
XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN REANIMATED IS LIVE!!!
Please go watch it!

Happy Lunar New Year!
My guess is as good as yours, but I think it might be because of a mindset of “I am gonna be more tough and strict to my child so he works harder and reaches higher” it’s a very common belief of a Asian culture and I genuinely believe this kind of parenting exist all over the globe, and is what Master Fung trying to do through the course of the show.
Also, I heard a lot of this diss about Master Fung, I have to say he is probably doing his best at taking care of Omi, let's look from the perspective of Master Fung, A 50 to 60 something years old man, who by Dojo mentioned used to be in monk school, he probably works his whole life studying Buddhist philosophy and is fully prepared a life without the bind of family, and attachment, ready to die for Xiaolin. he seems very familiar with Chase Young and his tiger warriors, He probably understands the moments he becomes the abbot of Xiaolin Temple (I assume to be the oldest temple of Xiaolin) that the peaceful temple life is just a short-lived illusion, probably crossing paths with Heylin many times before. Knowing the dangers he is in and the risk as he becomes abbot then one day comes a child on the doorstep. He took the orphan in by the belief in his Buddhist faith to be kind and equal to all living creatures on earth while knowing that this temple was probably not the best place to raise a kid, but he believed in fate as all Buddhist disciples do, he takes care of this baby to a point this child favors him over all of the elder's monks in the temple, loves this master and very attached, while master fung know this he also aware that one day he would leave this world whether it’s by natural or the enemy, he knows he can’t be too attached to this child or they could use Omi against him, then the dreadful day comes when the temple realizes Omi is the dragon of the water, it is fate isn’t it, now he has to teach a child how to fight, not just simple tai chi, chanting sutras and knock on wooden fish how to meditate, like he used teach Omi. Master Fung has to teach Omi about all the Xiaolin and Heylin conflicts knowing one day he will lose Omi either by nature courses or in battle, on top of all of this Master Fung doesn’t know how to be a parent, he doesn’t know how to calm a tantrum, what to do when a baby cry, what is teething? is this rash normal? shouldn’t Omi lose his teeth soon, he didn’t grow any hair!? He seems too hyperactive compared to a child his age, what age should a child start to walk again? maybe I should buy a book and ask those old ladies in the town what to do again, I hope Dojo didn’t take him flying again!?
All of this is new to master Fung and he have to remain distant, incase Chase use this bond against Omi, yet he still Omi’s favorite elder monk.
As to why Master Fung is more emotionally available to the other three, he is not the one who raised them isn’t he, to the other dragon Master Fung is that grandpa who gives weird advice and trains them to their muscle sore. He isn’t responsible for the three’s emotional development their parents are, just a phone call, a letter, and for Clay’s case one airplane ticket away for his dad is the only parent who visits the temple throughout the show, whenever these three have a problem and want someone to talk to that person is not Master Fung at first, they would call their family or friends or siblings, (apparently Rai writes letters frequently to his sister in chronicle, so I assume he is like that in the XS too) what master Fung can do to help is emotional distress that is happening, his role is different to them, he just needs to be a teacher to them, he can be more at ease while interacting with them.
But Omi is a child he raised, who he knows very well, who he knows is very prideful, arrogant, competitive, innocent, kind, and naïve, who master Fung properly didn’t assume would be very jealous and believe so much in ranking system that he starts to treat and think of people below him poorly, all this behavior can only appear when the other three show up, how would he knows how to deal with it other than the tough and strict attitude that he is familiar with for all his monk school life.
My final defense is the last episode in season 3 when Omi wails in Master Fung’s arms after he finds out he is very old, and he comforts him. And when Raimundo becomes leader Omi’s first action is to hide behind master Fung. All these actions indicate that Omi sees Master Fung as a safe place to be vulnerable, one could not accomplish that if they were not emotionally available for them in the past.
I don’t know why is the reason writers design Master Fung and Omi’s relationship like that, but as a woman growing up in a Asian culture master Fung is already an emotionally available parent. Shocking isn't it Lol.
Thank you for reading it this far.
Master Fung is so distant with Omi
As in ridiculously detached
It goes beyond his general stoicism, he refuses to be emotionally available to Omi at times when he would be to others, even when Omi's being openly self-destructive
Only time Master Fung deigns to work up any emotion for Omi is when he gets angry at him

Why
Not Kimiko killing that poor plant

It never stood a chance, I fear.
My theories for each of the plants:
Clay: He's done a perfect job tending to his, no notes. Probably has a specially developed orchid fertilizer he makes after looking up the specific nutritional needs for it and a very regular schedule for watering and checking the soil. It's going to be the first to blossom. It's going to maintain the biggest, most robust flowers, the thickest stem, the most rubbery, strong leaves, the greenest green. Clay keeps taking care of his even after the growing exercise is over, and it becomes a well-maintained part of the greenhouse for years to come.
Raimundo: His plant looks shriveled, wrinkled and limp, especially the brittle-looking leaves as opposed to the round, full ones on the blooming orchids. It's definitely chronically underwatered. He probably hasn't been paying much attention to it, since he said the exercise is boring, so he only occasionally watered it when Master Fung prodded him about it. His is still salvageable with some misting and high humidity though, he probably saves it after the lessons he learns in this episode and it probably eventually recovers, and maybe flowers, just much later and much less vibrantly than Clay's or Omi's.
Kimiko: Not a leaf in sight, and a stem so weak and lifeless it can't stand under its own weight, whole thing looks mushy... Yeah, this one's not gonna make it, I fear. I think she's been genuinely trying, but overcorrecting when she makes a mistake and doesn't want to ask the others for advice. It probably started out as the plant experiencing shock from temperature fluctuations because Kimiko initially had it under too much sun and too much dry heat, she tries to fix it with cold and overwatering, it got root rot. It's past the point of being salvageable. Hopefully Master Fung gives her a new one to start over. If not, I'm sure Clay will give her a seed from his once it blooms.
Omi: His looks like it's growing relatively fine, just slow. He's probably not giving it the proper balance of fertilizer that Clay's using. I also imagine Omi's is slightly overwatered, which is also making it harder to take up as many nutrients as Clay's, but Omi definitely isn't letting it get to the point of root rot or anything. It'll be the second to eventually blossom, after Clay's.
The chi-swapped versions of the characters work by removing the larger chunk of the user's chi, but doesn't actually add anything that wasn't already there.
It's interesting how the things they say are genuine thoughts in the back of their mind or stewing in the corner of their hearts.
Heylin Omi

"When I tried to lead, no one would follow. When I tried to speak, no one would listen. Only one person stood by me, believed in me, and trusted me. That is where I choose to go."
"I have no time to rest. I must fight. If only I did not have to sleep. I could fight 7-24. Hyah! Hyah!"
"As long as I get to fight, fight, fight!"
Good Omi
"Hello, my wonderful friends!"
"Yes, but it is not bigger than the joy I feel towards all of you! If I had arms, I would give you all a hug. If I had legs, I would leap for joy!"
good Jack

"Omi! I missed you so!"
"I say go for it! I know you guys can't lose! Because you have good on your side! And when you have good, you've got the world on a string!"
"Wouldn't want anything to happen to my number one guy (Master Fung)! Mwah!"
"Oh, Jack. It’s so good to see you! No, no, no. You don’t wanna go in there. That’s where Hannibal Bean lives. The last thing you need are more bad influences."
"I’m afraid my evil side’s about to get into a whole lot of trouble."
"Bad Jack went to visit… Hannibal Bean! I told him not to, but does he listen to me? Nooooooo!"
Heylin Kimiko

"Once I have both Wu, it’s evil domination, baby!"
Good Wuya

"If I win, I’m opening a home for birds without nests."

I've talked at length about how you can see Omi's loneliness and isolation and the utter depths of devotion he's capable of in Heylin Omi, as well as the hyperactive bloodknight energy he always has. It also shows how much Omi really loves Chase. It shows us that deep down, all Omi wants is to be with someone who he feels loves, trusts, and believes in him.
And you can see the overwhelming adoration and love for his friends in good Omi, when he doesn't have his other half to stifle how much he wants to gush over them. This half of Omi doesn't even mind comments about the size of his head.
Heylin Kimiko reveals that world domination is apparently just in the back of Kimiko's mind on a daily basis. She's a rich kid so nothing too out of the ordinary there.

Good Wuya reveals that Wuya likes birds, which is consistent with how good she is Ying-Ying and how she played nice with Chase's crow.
But Good Jack probably reveals the most about himself, I think.
Jack apparently believes that good always triumphs over evil, and he's genuinely worried about how many bad influences he has in his life. He's somewhat fond of the monks and prefers Omi good rather than evil.
And there's Good Jack's attachment to Master Fung, "his number one guy".
I don't think Jack already had this admiration for Master Fung buried deep down, of course. I think this is another show of how Jack really wants to cling to an older role model in his own alignment.

Good Jack idolizes Master Fung in the exact same way Regular Jack idolizes Hannibal, Chase, and Klofange (until he found out Klofange was wasn't evil and idolized Dyris instead.)

Best of wishes,
Kimiko, Raimundo, Clay, Omi and Dojo (and Master Fung)!

This is my family.

I found it, all on my own.

It’s little,

and broken,

but still good.

Yeah, still good.
Master Fung: Omi, the assignment was to bring in something important to you.
Omi: Yes, and I did that.
Master Fung: I meant an object, not ... *gestures in terror at Chase Young*
*In The Good!Chase Timeline*
Master Fung, holding Baby Omi: It appears someone has left a baby on the temple doorstep. In the wake of all the evil that is overtaking the land, it would be difficult for everyone here to care for this child with all the other work that is do be done. We would need someone to be his primary caretaker so that the rest can keep to their tasks.
Master Monk Chase, who has practically been vibrating out of his skin the moment he laid eyes on this very familiar baby that was carried in: I MEAN IF NO ONE ELSE WANTS TO-

Maybe I wanted to give human Dojo to the world, unprompted…
Big announcement coming soon!

Master fung had announced that a new monk was joining them, the xiaolin monks were excited to see a new face around. master fung moved out of the way to reveal Jack Spicer standing there, he gave a nervous chuckle and waved. The monks stared at Jack then master fung in confusion.
I had a dream that Jack joined the Xiaolin monks and DIDN’T betray them.
So I just finished xiaolin showdown: I wanna talk about it. Spoilers.
I really liked the show! I knew I would thanks to childhood memories of it but I think it holds up alright even today! Imma break it down in what I Did like and what I Didn't like (I think Imma make a different post talking about the Wu). This is longer than I thought it would be. I'm sorry.
What I liked
The Wu themselves, love me magic shit even if they get repetitive at times(fr there are like 4 that just give the power to fly).
I fucking love Jack Spicer and Clay Bailey. They are my boys do you hear me! Love how Jack just won't quit and how Clay is just so painfully Texas. My bois
Love the magic in general! How all die of the main characters get to master their element and get special weapons and gear to help. Wish there was more time to flush all of it out tho ,but hey what can you do(other than post head canons).
Dojo Kanojo Cho
Just his name is fucking amazing, and I did like some of his jokes
And his powers were cool! I wish we could have seen the limits of his shapeshifting powers.
I did like wuya and wish we could have seen her do more witchy things.
Chase Young was also very cool.
I also like panda bubba's design and I kinda wish there was more of him. I wanna do things to him DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT
I already said this BUT I just love how all of them got individual weapons that I don't think were Shen Gong Wu? I think.
Master fung and dojo... Had a very odd relationship. I'm 90% sure they were at least fucking by how dojo acted when he went to a different temple and after that it was just very. Weird.nit Bad weird but still.
Wish we could have seen more of their families. kimono's dad was fucking adorable. I want to fuck her dad
Also Love le mime!!! I also wanna fuck him, I am not taking. criticism at this time
I also liked Jermaine and wish he could have been able to join fully or show up more.
Over all love this show.
What I didn't like
How they treated Jack. Idk man I just thought it was weird how the heros tournamented him so much? Like ya he's a ass but like, y'all are the heros why are you acting borderline worse than him???
I also kinda wish he could have officially joined the xiaolin side, I feel like they alluded to him switching multiple times but then he never does and I think that was a waste.
LET JACK BE THE DRAGON OF METAL.
LET JACK MAKE THEM AN AWESOME DEFENSE SYSTEM.
LET JACK DO A FAKE OUT WHERE HE PRETENDED TO GO BAD AND THEN FUCK THE BADDIES UP WITH SABOTAGE.
Idk dude he deserved betted
Also didn't like how he started out at Least semi competent but then just became a pathetic joke? And not even fuc pathetic. He's not a wet dog he's just pathetic.
I wish we could have seen Raimundo's family if not just a sibling or his parents, just something.
Fuck Clay's dad. Not in a hot way. I hate him.
Omi had such an ego. Like dude, please stop.
I really wish we could have seen more of Fung and Omi's relationship. I kinda wish it was more father and son rather than teacher and student since it seems like Omi lived there his entire life.
I also wish we saw more of Fung being badass. I feel there was a lack of that.
I'll say it again, there are a bunch of shen gong wu that kinda just repeat? And some Wu that don't seem like they should be categorize as Wu? Idk I'll make a different post about it bc there a lot to say.
Le mime was cool and I want to know more about him.
I want to know more about almost everyone honestly.
Give Me Their Backstories. Please
This is all I can think of ATM. I'll add more later probably.
Thank you if you made it down here. Let me know what's your fav and least fav about xs.
