Golden Chorale and a Headless Bear (Story Submission)

"So, a few weeks ago was our State competition. On our way home, we all stopped at Golden Chorale to eat and celebrate. One of the kids in my grade, a trumpet, ended up buying a teddy bear from a band aide for $30. In a matter of minutes, the teddy bear had its head sawed off with a steak knife. Our entire table was in a fit of laughter and rumor has it that the teddy bear is still headless today. That story is by far the highlight of the season. 😂"

My Band Gear!!

Nobody asked for this post, but I wanna show off my minimal gear, so here goes nothing!

Obviously I've got my flute, I can't remember if I named her or not, but I think my friend suggested "Flutesica Tooting" (that, or I saw it on here somewhere). Either way, her name is Flutesica. Say hi to Flutesica! She's a Yamaha 221!

Lil clip-on tuner! It's kinda useless, since I have to play the note, then quickly look to see where I am, if I'm alone. I don't take it to my normal band rehearsals, since the school has a box of tuners that we all share, but it does the job when it's needed. It's great on band camp!

My flute stand! This is the second one I've ever had, I bought it last Saturday. The first one I got on my first High School Band Camp in 2016! The BD bought it for me, I felt very special 😂

If anyone wants to buy it, it's a BG Franck Bichon stand. It cost $14.95 AUD.

My case, and the case's case. Nothing much to say, it holds my cleaning cloth/rod, and polishing cloth.

And last, but not least, my band folder! The piece you see on the front is what I'm performing for a showcase this Friday! I'm so excited!!

sometimes a band is 100 kids in a field with no recollection of who the person is 12 dots down from them.

sometimes a band is 40 kids crammed into a drama room, someone brought coke in and is drinking it in rehearsal, someone brought cheetos and shared them before rehearsal, most kids left their instrument there for the whole week, and everyone just vibes because they're still one of the top bands in the state despite numbers tanking from last year.

BD: Hands up who did more practice than usual (during coronacation)?

please please PLEASE. DO NOT WEAR YOUR BINDER DURING PRACTICE. DO NOT BIND DURING PRACTICE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! binders are NOT meant to be worn while exercising. this can damage your ribs and chest! as most band kids will tell you there is NO TIME TO CHANGE DURING PRACTICES. DO NOT WEAR YOUR BINDERS TO PRACTICE. this causes so many problems for your health. even if you think you can be an acception because you have a lighter instrument or you’re in pit, DONT DO IT. during band camp you are outside for HOURS without any breaks or time to go inside (in most cases anyways and if you go inside it’s for a short period of time for dinner or something). the heat outside (because it’s summer) can make it hard to breathe in your binder. this happened to one of my friends please don’t subject yourself to this.

So, I just wanted to get this off my chest. I tried out for winterguard last year, and there were only 15 spots. The problem was, there were 17 people trying out. One girl backed out, so it was down to 16. Guess who was the lucky person to get cut? Yours truly! I understand she didn't want to cut anyone, but it was inevitable I guess. I'm thinking about trying again this year, does anyone have tips on how I can improve? My flag kept rolling up, so it might be somewhat with my wrists. I March clarinet, but I've been captivated by the guard and their flags, and winterguard gave me that opportunity because I don't wanna switch (BD prob wouldn't let me anyways).

RAAAAAAAA THANK YOU!!! These stupid looking fish things are my comfort creatures for some strange reason (I've always loved the strange characters in media that are different from the rest of the cast, and stand out in their own unique way). I'm so freaking glad that people look up to my art skills like that, because that's my goal after all. I really just want to make people smile :3

Hi Neo, it's me again. I was wondering if you were open to discussing/theorizing about the Salmonids. I would love to hear your intrepretations of the Salmonids and their society!

Also, good luck with your first marching season and marching MPA! Bari sax seems like a really fun instrument to play. How's the halftime show coming along? My band hasn't started practicing the drill yet. I'm a percussionist, by the way, and this is my second year in marching band.

I'm always open to rambling about the Salmonids and their whole world! They are my comfort creatures, and I will continue to not shut up about them until idek.

As for marching season, we're doing very well on our halftime show! We've learned both movement 1 and 2, and hopefully we can learn movement 3 soon. Bari is hard to march with, but with enough practice I can nail it down.

just walked almost a mile in platform boots with a trumpet. how we feeling

anyways my most vivid memories of things said

-"STOP FINGERING MY SAXOPHONE."

-"WHEN I SAY HAWK YOU SAY TUAH. HAWK!" "TUAH"

-"l HOPE UR HAIR FALLS OUT."

-(sees a ginger guy with a twitch shirt) "CASEOH???? OH MY GOD GUYS ITS CASEOH"

-"grasshoppers are being used for harassment."

-"if i hear dance the night ONE MORE TIME i'm jumping into the river" (for clarification dance the night is the song we played)

Bruh I fucking love my color guard. So in my school, we have an extra last period where we can go visit other teachers and do homework. So in my last period I usually go in to the band room to practice my choreography for color guard, and a lot of the other kids come in too. Today, we ran through the choreography a few times and then had tea time. Tea time is literally where we just sit in a circle and spill tea. We just sat there for like 30 minutes and talked trash about people/ talked about our homecoming dates. It was funny cus out of the 8 girls: me, the captain, the drum major, a drum line kid that joined in, and four other guard girls, five of them had dated this one girl. I can probably write an entire essay about all the tea that was spilled.

Why tf am I so sentimental about my rental sax!? I got my own alto sax recently, before I was renting one for like, a full year now. Sunday is the anniversary. Like, it was a shitty horn, came with missing screws, but that was MY shitty horn! His name is Alberto! He kinda had bad tone and some missing screws, but we went to a parade together! We've traveled, we've soloed, and we've marched together! We played together for my first jam session! I told myself not to get too attached, but I did! Goodbye Alberto, we've done some crazy shit together, and I hope your next player loves you as much as I did! ♥️♥️♥️

Marching band so silly. We go to football, we make our sounds, walk around, then go home!

newest stupid occurrence just dropped;

i was freaking out because i couldnt get any high notes to come out of my piccolo, and couldnt get it in tune, and i told one of my friends about it who then asked "is there something stuck in it?"

there was a fucking adderall stuck in my piccolo
