Marching Band Memes - Tumblr Posts
Welcome
To another band meme/ask blog.
I'm the head(and only) admin, LilFlute, welcome.
The ask box is always open, send confessions, memes, band secrets, tips for other, anything band related.
I'm a symphonic band flautist from Australia, doot doot my dude.
Hopefully I'll be able make some 🔥fire🔥 band memes for you all.
Always remember to look up at the conductor,
LilFlute

Listen I don't know what that is but it's concerning-
Flute vs Clarinet vs Oboe - What squeak makes you want to shove your head in a sand pit the most?
Flute: Fix your embouchure, fix your position, what ever you were doing wrong p l e a s e fix it.
Clarinet:
"It's probably my reed."
"Why you lyin... why you always lyin..."
Oboe: please stop summoning Satan, it's disturbing the flutes.
Piccolo:

My head was in the sand as soon as they pulled out a piccolo. We don't even have one in the band so I just avoid it.

A Story about Grace Notes
This is a doozy.
So, we're playing Fever in lesson right? Barely anyone turns up to lessons, so it's just me and two other flutes. We're blocking Fever and the conductor asks "what's that note?" And points to the note(s).
None of us know, and so our conductor turns to the poor grade seven beside her and says (in a joking way) "You should know this one."
The girl's looking kinda scared, so the conductor just says:
"It's a grace note, Grace!"

Flats vs Naturals
If you're someone with a terrible memory, you'll probably relate:
BD: Ok how many naturals in this? *one flat*
*insert forgetful flautist*: Uh...
BD: WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS FOR A YEAR-
Telling it how it is in a tiny regional concert band. We're trying I swear.

The lord is testing me.
Suffer.
I know marching band rehearsals are probably a lot longer, but concert band rehearsals at our school... we don't get breaks at all. You bring your water bottle to the chair and that is it. You don't move for an hour.
Summer is a special kind of hell.
Performance Week
This week is SCARY.
The conductor gets terrifyingly particular about everything, everyone is on edge, and you all feel like breaking down into tears.
Isn't that f u n.
Band Bus Story
This is a story of my own, since I don't have any submissions.
So, last year we tied first in a massive out of town competition, one that we thought we had no chance at winning, and on the way back to the hotel, we were all singing very loudly:
"WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, NO TIME FOR LOSERS, CAUSE WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!"
Greatest band bus ride ever honestly, sadly I don't have the videos any more, I checked.
Bigger Space and Better Subject Plz.
Going to a small public school so having a decent instrumental program? Lmao no.
EDUCATION SYSTEM PLEASE MAKE INSTRUMENTAL A PROPER SUBJECT AND NOT AN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY US BANDIES DESERVE MORE.
Popular Pieces vs Set Pieces
You want to play that popular piece, with sections that you absolutely adore, but before that...
The set piece.

Who else hasn't been in choir since third grade?
BAND👏BUS👏CHAOS (Part 1?)
We've all been there.
The band bus.
Hordes of highschoolers/college/university students pile onto a bus for who knows how many hours and they travel to a far away place, be it for a training camp, workshops, a tour, or even a competition. We've all experienced the absolute madness that is the Band Bus.
I'm gonna spill my experiences with it.
So each year, there's the usual set up of:
New kids/year sevens/bus sick up the front with teachers and parents chaperoning. Year eights take up a tiny section in the middle-front. Then the year nines are the middle of the bus (most of us) with some grade eights and tens. Then the back of the bus is a shitstorm of the brass players of every grade and percussionists from every grade, along with any seniors from other sections. It's a madhouse. I'm towards the start of the roll, and usually the most eager to get on and seated, so I usually get a seat up the back with all the party-goers.
I'm from a tiny band of thirty to fifty players, so we squeeze onto a 64 seater with relative ease. There's never been a year where we've needed two buses.
You know that time when it's getting late, but you're almost to your destination, so you're all super excited that you can't sleep? That's the band every year. Everyone's hyped to get to the fancy hotel, or the cool PCYC (and possibly the beach before rehearsals), so there's music softly playing from someone's Bluetooth speaker, because the BD told everyone to shut up so the bus driver can navigate around the city.
I might do a part two to this, since there's more to the Band Bus than just the ride there! There's the ride back, the return trips from competitors to the hotel, there's all sorts of things!
JOHN CAGE
Our band teacher told us who John Cage was, and his deal with silent pieces.
So now, if she wants us to shut up, she'll shout "JOHN CAGE!"
BAND BUS CHAOS [Part 2!]
So! The band bus post is in my top 5 most popular posts, so here's a pt. 2!
The bus ride back to the hotel once you've won a competition... don't we love those!
My band sings "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!" really loudly! And everyone gets in on it!! It's one of the times where I really feel a part of the band, regardless of section, age, or chair, everyone has fun. Because we achieved that win! We did it together!! I wish I still had videos, but I think I deleted them. It really shows that we aren't just some teens smashed together to make invisible wiggly lines, we're a team! A team that can do anything if we try!
Guess the song.
P l e a s e.

*ugly sobbing*
Yahoo answers why is my head sore after playing the oboe

I only got this oboe a few months ago, but if anything happened to it, I would kill everybody in the room and the myself.

Oboes!! I require asistance!!
What's the difference between reeds? Is there different levels for reeds? Is it like a clarinet reed, where theres 1, 1 and a half, 2, 2 and a half ect? What's the easiest reed to play on? What's a good brand to buy reeds from?
I'm so lost, and these reeds don't look too good (split and chipped in multiple places)
composing is hard and i want none of it
WOOHOO!!
BAND CAMP ITENERY WAS SENT OUT THIS MORNING! WE'RE GOING ON A RIVER CRUISE ON THE LAST NIGHT!
My Band Gear!!
Nobody asked for this post, but I wanna show off my minimal gear, so here goes nothing!

Obviously I've got my flute, I can't remember if I named her or not, but I think my friend suggested "Flutesica Tooting" (that, or I saw it on here somewhere). Either way, her name is Flutesica. Say hi to Flutesica! She's a Yamaha 221!

Lil clip-on tuner! It's kinda useless, since I have to play the note, then quickly look to see where I am, if I'm alone. I don't take it to my normal band rehearsals, since the school has a box of tuners that we all share, but it does the job when it's needed. It's great on band camp!

My flute stand! This is the second one I've ever had, I bought it last Saturday. The first one I got on my first High School Band Camp in 2016! The BD bought it for me, I felt very special 😂
If anyone wants to buy it, it's a BG Franck Bichon stand. It cost $14.95 AUD.

My case, and the case's case. Nothing much to say, it holds my cleaning cloth/rod, and polishing cloth.

And last, but not least, my band folder! The piece you see on the front is what I'm performing for a showcase this Friday! I'm so excited!!
And that's all! If you'd like to hear a clip of Shackelford, leave a comment or rb! Thanks for reading!
