A consequence of feminism merging with pop culture is that it’s becoming commodified. Teens are buying feminist etsy patches and are putting ‘intersectionality’ into their twitter bios, but are failing to engage or critically think about how the sexism woc face is often racialised (i. e i n t e r s e c t i o n a l i t y) I mean i’m all for visual representations of your feminist praxis, but f e m i n i s m is much more than some cool quirky watered down tumblr aesthetic

Yes!!

stop making "jokes" about male, female, and queer victims who were abused my cishet men, women, and queer people.

Men can be verbally, emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by not only men but women as well. The same goes for women abused by women and queer people. Traits like gender may play a role in the reasoning and forms of abuse and how victims express trauma, but it's not a main factor of who takes the role of victim and or abuser.

The continuous notion of men are the only problems when it comes to abuse is so wrong, because there are other factors to why people act out abusive behavior other than the lazy argument of "men biologically love sex" and or "men bad". And some may reject that but I've seen posts of men, women, and queer people having their reports of abuse dismissed because it wasn't man. Sometimes if a man sexually abuses a man it's either seen as "desirable if the two are queer" or used as "valid" reasoning for hating "queer people". Instances of abuse like this are often twisted into a false narrative to either laugh at or exploit to fearmonger.

Support victims of abuse and trauma no matter who they are and don't invalidate their feelings just because "they have it better than others". As well as finding help for abusers to possibly reform and learn from the mistakes and take strides to better themselves. Don't be dismissive. And for people who have low empathy or just struggle with comforting others and expressing emotion in general just let the person know you'll be there for them and ask how they feel and what they want to discuss and do moving forward. If the person doesn't want to talk about then that's fine just hangout if they want company and suggest types of therapy they can use or anything that would be more appropriate in the moment.

abusiveness and predation is not unique to men. abusive women (and the abuse of men for that matter) are much, much more common than you think. if your support for abuse survivors only extends to women or people who were abused by men, you don't actually support survivors.

so to all the survivors who aren't women, and the survivors whose abusers weren't men: i believe you, and i see you. you deserve to be safe and supported. you are not alone. your pain and suffering matters just as much as others' does. what happened to you is just as awful, and i'm wishing you so much healing and happiness.

sometimes i will see someone talking about how we need to engage with the patriarchy as a massive system of oppression that's intertwined with the very foundations of daily life, not just like, use feminism as a marketable #GirlBoss statement. and i'll get excited and be like yes! including talking about how the patriarchy punishes and demonizes disprivileged men for being failures of manhood, forbids men from expressing emotion other than anger or lust, creates the material conditions for transmisogyny through the simultaneous demonization of failed men as predators and monsters and dehumanization of women as lesser beings--

and they'll be like oh no actually i was thinking more about how maleness is an inherently predatory and violent state of being and men need to either stop being men or never express an emotion. and we should talk about that. and stop letting men talk over us by expressing male gendered struggles because they are not real struggles and are generally examples of men being predatory by pretending to be weak while speaking over women.

babes. THAT'S THE PATRIARCHY. you are SAYING SOMETHING PATRIARCHAL.

A big point to note if you live in a place where people can see through your windows or be able to identify them from outside especially people who live in apartments (not a society but just one building next to a street) never turn on the lights as soon as you reach home. If anyone is standing outside and staring, they’ll be able to figure out what floor and even what unit you live in. Also invest in blur film for your window, it’ll block cameras and anyone peeking.

Also if you see anything strange on your car as you’re coming out of a store don’t pause to look! I repeat DONT PAUSE TO LOOK! Just get in and drive, that’s how people (traffickers) mark and abduct victims.

"This International Women’s Day we call on all who identify as feminists to engage in the lifelong unlearning of their biases and to be in solidarity with Palestinian women, Sudanese women, Congolese women who are experiencing an ongoing genocide." from The Slow Factory, 08/Mar/2024: caption cont. under images.

In Palestine, more than 9,000 women have been brutally killed by the Israeli Occupation. 63 women killed per day.

In Sudan, 4 million Sudanese women & girls are at risk of sexual violence.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, more than 1 million women have been survivors of sexual violence.

In Turtle Island aka the so called USA, 94% of fatal violence committed again Trans people are committed against Trans women.

This isn’t about the stats, the poverty porn or the constant shock doctrine the West desperately needs in order to be inclusive. This is a call for solidarity and collective action.

Access to feminine hygiene products, bodily autonomy and the access to necessary safe and caring spaces as women are all human rights.

Year 5: Surviving, Living, Changing

Surviving #TSS changed me. But one turn that I have never talked about is in my politics.

#WhenIWas is trending today on Twitter, and while that is about sexual assault and harassment, it strikes me as particularly, I don’t know, fateful that it would be today, April 19, 2016.  When I was 21, my world changed.  When I was 21, I died.  And when I was 21, I became alive again.  And everything that happened on April 19, 2011, everything that has happened in the five years since, so much…

WE NEED TO GET @iyadsobhegaza TO 10K

Iyad's daughter is very sick. There are cases of polio, chicken pox, monkey pox, and several other diseases spreading throughout Gaza right now. Young children and elderly people are the ones most at risk but with starvation and lack of clean drinking water and the general unsanitary situation, anyone can become sick very easily. And with a family of 10 including 2 elderly people and several small children, Iyad has a lot to worry about.

WE NEED TO GET @iyadsobhegaza TO 10K

They NEED this money both to save up for evacuation and for daily expenses like for food, water, shelter, and medicine (especially after they lost 11k due to GFM deleting their previous fundraiser which you can read about here). Everything is currently very expensive in Gaza and they were displaced yet again recently. Iyad often can't even aquire medicine for his blood pressure which tends to spike unpredictably. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE HOW URGENT THIS IS.

Help Eman Abushaban reach their goal by donating or sharing with your friends.

Iyad's previous fundraiser is #177/173 on the Vetted Gaza Fundraisers Spreadsheet and was vetted by nabulsi here. We are still waiting for it to get updated to his current P*yP*l.

WE NEED TO GET @iyadsobhegaza TO 10K

Donations have been majorly slowing down as of late and it's incredibly concerning. It's getting at most 2 donations per day now and that's unacceptable. They haven't even reached 3% of their goal yet. Please donate if you are able to and if you are not, please share. Perhaps queue this a few times in advance.

$1,711/$60,000

PLEASE DONATE I CANNOT EMPHASIZE MORE HOW DIRE THE SITUATION IS

For your donation you can get:

-Art wallpapers

-Art commissions

i follow a lot of social media activists and political commentary pages but what doesnt sit right with me is that hardly anyone is talking about whats happening to afghan women.

little girls are being married off to older men. they are being raped and forced to give birth. they cannot go to school. they cannot see a doctor. they cannot speak in public. women who speak out in protest are tortured or killed.
