Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince - Tumblr Posts
Draco Malfoy was standing with his back to the door, his hands clutching either side of the sink, his white-blond head bowed. And Harry realized, with a shock so huge it seemed to root him to the spot, that Malfoy was crying - actually crying - tears streaming down his pale face into the grimy basin.
(from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince)
“Harry, however, had never been less interested in Quidditch; he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy.”
I just KNOW HBP Ron was SICK and TIRED of Harry

pairing: theo nott x fem!reader
summary: you get bad news and theo is conflicted about it being his fault
warnings: sad, but ends in (kinda) fluff, trauma, mentions of war
theo was watching you as he always did as you sat at the avenclaw table, chattering with your friends.
his friends were used to that weird habit of his, it seemed like wherever you went, theo was close to watch over you.
"what is it with you and that girl?" mattheo's voice made theo raise his head.
"y/n?" theo asked surprised.
"of course, y/n" blaise rolled his eyes next to him. "what other girl could he possibly mean? all you ever do is stare at her"
"we're friends" theo shrugged. it was true. you guys weren't the best friends in the world but would occasionally meet up on the astronomy tower since you had run into each other there in third year. theo had recognized the book under your arm and you had spend and hour sitting and talking about it.
you often came there now to exchange books and read in silence or talk about them after you had finished them.
"yeah, looks like it" draco said sarcastically as he watched theo's eyes glide back to your form.
"just admit you're in love with her and they'll stop bugging you" pansy nudged the tall boy next to her and theo just shrugged.
"i don't know"
"you don't know, what?" draco asked with a raised brow "you don't know if you're in love with her?"
theo nodded his head and his friends sighed simultaneously.
"how can you not know that?" enzo spoke for the first time "have you never been in love?"
"just because you fall in love with every girl you see, doesn't mean we all do" mattheo joked and enzo frowned at him.
"i'm just not sure, okay?" theo said defensively, without taking his eyes off of you "and even if.. it would never work"
without theo noticing, pansy smiled at him, as he watched his eyes light up as you noticed his eyes and raised your hand, waving at him. "how do you feel around her?" pansy asked softly.
"warm" theo simply said, before he continued "when she looks at me, it feels like the sun glazing my skin during the summer. and when she laughs it sounds like the wind moving the trees. i have the need to keep her safe all the time, even though i know that nothing will happen to her here"
"i think you have your answer, mate" blaise said and theo had never noticed him sounding so sincere and serious. he looked between his friends. they all spotted a similar expression, atleast until his eyes fell on pansy, who looked like she was about to cry.
"that was beautiful" she muttered, while she snuffled her nose "why don't you ever say things like that about me, draco?"
draco's eyes widened in surprise, before his face spotted an expression similar to betrayal, as he turned his head to look at theo. "thanks, mate, for raising the bar to the sky"
pansy slapped his arm and draco's eyes were back on her again, just like theo had already turned his head back at you, not even hearing a word of what draco had said.
you threw your head back, laughing at something the girl next to you had said, before you turned your head and raised your eyebrows in surprise as an unfamiliar owl landed on the table in front of you.
theo raised his eyebrows too. he watched as you ripped open the letter and your eyes scanned the paper. he could not read the expression on your face and was wondering what you were thinking, when you quickly muttered something to the girl next to you and stood up, rushing out of the hall.
"was she crying?" blaise asked surprised and theo quickly remembered seeing a few tears slipping over your cheeks.
and then he knew what letter you had just gotten.
"a ministry owl" he said for his friends to hear. he didn't have to further explain. they all knew what that meant
"oh" pansy said and all color vanished from her face. "do you think..?" she left the question unfinished and theo just nodded.
"where do you think she'll go?"
"i know where" theo muttered "but i'm not sure that i should be the one to comfort her now"
"what? why not?" mattheo shrugged "you clearly love her"
theo looked up from the table and his friends noticed the hint of tears in his eyes "what if it was my father? i can't possibly try to comfort her, when i'm one of them, can i?"
"you're not one of them" pansy shook her head "you're not you're father, none of us are our parents"
"that doesn't matter. there's a war brewing and when it comes down to it, i'm on the wrong side"
"you're still her friend" draco argued.
"draco is right and that you're conflicted on all this shows how much you care enough to not let your beliefs come between you two" pansy said.
"go" enzo nodded.
theo stood up from the table and walked out of the hall in a quick step. he took two steps at once when he walked up the astronomy tower. just like he expected you were already there.
you were staring down to the grounds of hogwarts, while quite tears ran over your cheeks. they were reddened just like your eyes and despite it all, theo thought that you were incredibly beautiful.
you turned around when one of the floorboards made a sound when he stepped closer, but quickly relaxed once you noticed it was him.
"hey" theo muttered, before he sat down beside you. "is it alright if i sit with you?"
"you already are" you shrugged, but there was no malicious intent in your voice and theo relaxed.
you sighed, before you pushed the letter from the ministry in the taller boys direction. theo's eyes scanned the words on the page.
"they burned our whole house down" theo looked up from the paper when you started speaking. "they didn't find my parents once the aurors arrived. they're not sure if they could flee, or if the death eaters took them"
"i'm sorry" theo muttered, while he folded the paper. "i hope they're alright. i wish i could do something"
"you've come here" you said softly, before you moved closer to him and put your head an his shoulder. theo reluctantly raised his arm and then gently rested his hand on your shoulder, pulling you closer.
"do they know who did it?"
"mmh?"
"do they know which death eaters—“ you sat up suddenly and theo fell silent.
you frowned at him, scrunching your eyebrows together as you thought about what he was implying with that. you were not stupid, you knew that many of your classmates parent's were involved with the wrong people.
theo just stared at you blankly, while you did the same. neither of you said a word, before he tried to look away.
"what are you talking about?" you asked, bringing his attention back to you.
"nothing, i just--"
you could read the sadness and regret in his eyes. he looked like he was personally at fault for whatever had happened to your home and family.
"you think your father could have done it"
his eyes widened when he heard the anger in your voice. he watched as you stood up from the floor and walked to the middle of the tower.
"y/n" theo muttered, as he rose to his feet and followed you. he was interpreting your anger in the wrong way. "i'm sorry, i know that i--"
"that you what?" you said angrily as your turned around to look at him. "this is not your fault, theo. you don't get to think or say it is"
theo raised his eyebrows as he realized what you were really angry about. you weren't angry that both of your lifes had been dedicated to opposing sides through the acting of your parents. no, you were angry that he thought he was somehow to blame for something that had been decided before he was born.
"i don't know what i can do, y/n" theo said helplessly "i want to comfort you, but how could i when there's a chance that i'm a part of what caused your hurt" "you're not part of any hurt, theo" you shook your head "what's happening out there has nothing to do with you and me"
"but what if it has?" theo gulped and tears shimmered in his eyes "what if the war comes and we have to kill each other"
"i won't let it come to that"
"how can you know?"
"i don't know anything, i just know that right now, all i want is for you to hold me"
theo looked at you for a few seconds and you weren't sure if he would just turn around and walk away, but he softly nodded his head, before he opened his arms, so that you could step inside.
after a few minutes, you softly stepped back and took his face in both of your hands.
"i don't know what's going to happen to us, theo" you whispered as theo watched you closely. he felt the warmth of your hands on his cheeks and your touch felt so familiar that he wasn't sure if he could ever live without it. "all i know is that we will not become the victims of our parents decisions"
theo nodded and you did the same. he softly kissed your forehead, before he brought you back to his chest and just held you for what felt long enough to fix anything that had not yet happened to you.

“Good morning,” Harry says, smiling brightly as Hermione and I sit at the table.
“Morning,” we both reply in unison, Hermioen going to say something but is cut off when our attention darts to the old owl that all but crashes into our food on the table, sending bowls of cereal and plates of toast flying into the air.
“Ron! Get your owl in check!” I yell as Hermione magics away the spilt milk on my robes, leaving them brand new.
“Sorry, sorry. God this bird’s going to be the death of me.” Ron replies as he detaches the box in the owl's claws before shooing it away.
“What’s that?” Harry asks, pointing at the box curiously as Ron goes to open it and pulls out a long black robe with white ruffles at the collar.
“Mum’s sent me a dress!” Ron says in horror as he stares down at the old thing.
“Well, it does match your eyes. Is there a bonnet? Aha!” I shout through my laughter, pulling out a white collar with a black bow and holding it up at Ron’s neck.
“Oh shut up Y/N. You’re not funny.” Ron says dismissively as he walks over to Ginny and continues,
“Ginny here, these must be for you.”
“I’m not wearing that, it’s ghastly.” she says looking up at the dress in disgust.
Hermione lets out a fit of giggles as Harry and I smack each other, laughing at Ron, unable to control ourselves.
“What are you on about?” Ron asks confused.
“They’re not for Ginny, you idiot, they’re for you!” I shout as the Gryffindors around us join in on the laughter.
“They’re dress robes,” Hermione adds, calming down slightly.
“Dress robes, for what?” Ron responds with frustration in his voice.

“The Yule Ball has been a Hogwarts tradition since its inception,” McGonagall’s voice booms in the large room filled with girls on one side and boys on the other. Hermione and I softly giggle as we make small quips about how uncomfortable Harry and Ron look, having to sit next to Theo and Draco.
“On Christmas Eve night, we gather in the Great Hall for a night of well-mannered frivolity,” she says as she glides around the room, eyeing Harry and Draco as they make faces at each other, causing them to stop almost immediately.
“I expect each and every one of you to put your best foot forward. And I mean this literally as the Yule Ball is, as you know, first and foremost, a dance,” she says, sending the girls into excited conversations and the boys into a sea of annoying groans.
“Silence!” she shouts over the noise, clapping her hands together over her head, “Our school has commanded the respect of the wizarding world for over 10 centuries. And I will not have you, in the course of a single evening, besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons.” she finishes, sending everyone into quiet laughter. I look up from my fixed gaze at McGonagall at Theo who snickers softly and looks at me before mouthing, “Try saying that five times fast.”
I smirk as I try whispering it as he does the same, before McGonagall walks over in front of us, breaking our gazes at each other. “Now, to dance,” she says, waving her arms around gracefully, turning to the girl's side, saying, “is to let the body breathe. Inside every girl, a secret swan slumbers…longing to burst forth and take flight.”
She turns to the boys, cutting off whatever snide remark Ron was making, “Inside every boy, a lordly lion prepared to prance. Mr Weasley.”
She walks over to Ron swiftly as he cowers slightly, looking immensely uncomfortable as she asks him to join her.
“...Yes?”
Harry looks over at Hermione and me and we smirk at Ron as McGonagall lectures him how to put his hands on her waist.
They dance for a minute before McGonagall calls everyone over and tells us to partner up, and Theo comes up to me with a hand behind his back. “Join me for this dance?” he says jokingly as he bows forward slightly and puts one hand out making me smile and reach out for his hand before I swiftly grab Harry’s from behind him and say, “Sorry maybe next time!” over my shoulder, sending him into laughter, shaking his head as Harry looks up at me quizzingly.
“Leaving him wanting more?” he smiles at me, “Yep, I learned from the best.” I joke, referencing the endless amounts of times Harry and Ginny have gotten close but have never made anything official.
He rolls his eyes and says, “Shut up.”
“Have you even asked her yet?” I ask as we sway to the music, “Not yet, I think I’ll do it tonight…if Ron doesn’t interrupt us again that is.”
“Don’t worry,” I say nodding my head over to the other side of the room where Ron and Hermione are trying to dance, “I think he’s got other things to worry about.”

“We really need to get a move on, otherwise we’ll be the only ones without dates,” Ron whispers to Harry as we try and recreate the potion Slughorn’s just shown us.
Harry doesn’t say anything as he smiles to himself and focuses back on his potion, making me smile softly in return knowing he’s probably asked Ginny by now and she's said yes.
“What are you smiling about?” Theo asks, interrupting me from my thoughts as he adds fluxweed into our potion and looks at me confusingly. “No reason.” I smile up at him, noticing the ring I gave him on his finger.
“So,” I say, taking my seat as we wait for our potion to boil.
“So?” he replies, taking his seat next to me and resting the bottom side of his jaw in his hand with his elbow on the table, staring at me with his blue eyes.
“Yule Ball’s in a few days, have you found a date yet?”
“Mm no not yet. Why do you ask?” he smirks.
“Oh no, no reason.” I stutter, feeling embarrassed, as I try to distract myself with the brew in front of us.
“So your bruises have healed,” I say, reaching out and holding his face to the side to examine the area they used to be on top of his sharp cheekbone. “Mhm. All better now.” He smiles.
I sigh and say, “You shouldn’t have done that you know.” “Why not? I’d do it for Blaise or Pansy or even Draco, I’d do it for any of my friends, so why not you? Especially you.” he mutters the last bit silently but my ears catch it before it disappears, making blood rush to my ears and cheeks.
“A friendship between a Gryffindor and Slytherin is unheard of. Especially considering your family and my best friends, what makes you so confident in ours?”
“I don’t know. You’re…different,” he says, standing up, “You’re not like those other Gryffindors. They’re too proud.”
I laugh after him, gathering my own things as he goes to give Slughorn our finished potion, “You Slytherin lot aren’t all that humble anyways.”
“No Star, we just know our worth.” he winks back at me as he leaves and I notice something on his side of the desk. A little envelope with my name on it.
I open it to find,
“Meet me in the Astronomy Tower after curfew. Bring a jacket.”

“You took your time,” Theo says as I walk up the stairs, holding two cups of hot chocolate for him and me.
“Shut up, I was bribing one of the elves to give me whipped cream in these this time.” I hold one of the drinks up to him to take it before he grabs both out my hands and puts them down on the floor,
“You shouldn’t have, we won’t need them.” He smiles mischievously before taking my hand and running down the large, empty corridors.
“Theo stop! Where are we going?!” I whisper yell out of surprise, grabbing his hand tighter as I run to keep up with him. “You’ll see!” He says over his shoulder, leading us out the castle and giving a few galleons to the prefect keeping watch at the door.
“Come on,” he says softly now, both of us panting from the run.
The cold wind hits me in the face and immediately sends a shiver up my spine, making me pull my jacket up slightly to cover my exposed neck.
Theo lets go of my hand and pulls his black, green and silver Slytherin scarf off and wraps the cloth around my neck,
“Theo, will you stop being a prick and at least tell me where we’re going?”
He grabs my arm and links it in with his before saying, “We’re almost there.”
I look up at him as we walk in comfortable silence, the soft moonlight reflecting on his sharp features, his rosy cheeks and the cold vapour coming from his pink nose as he breathes and he turns to me giving me a big smile as he stops walking, turns me around and covers my eyes.
“Theo what now? You drag me out of the warm castle and make me freeze out here in the stupid snow and you didn’t even let me drink my hot chocolate and you won’t even tell me where we’re going and I’m probably going to get hypothermia at this point because of you.” I finish my rant as he turns me around, slowly removing his cold fingers from my eyes.
“Shut up and open your eyes, you drama queen.”
I can hear the smile in his voice as I open my eyes and see a big tree with a covering on top, looking like a den adorned in fairy lights and snowflake decorations. A red checkered picnic blanket resting on the ground along with my favourite pastries, hot chocolates and movies all set up on a projector facing the castle. Snowflakes all form one sentence above the movie projector screen playing Tangled, making my breath stop and a huge grin form on my lips.
Will you get tangled with me at the ball?
I turn around to find a flustered-looking Theodore with his hands in his pocket, nervously looking down at me waiting for my reaction. “You did this?” I ask with a quizzical smile on my face, still in disbelief that he went through all this effort for me.
“Yeah. Well I mean Blaise, Mattheo and Pansy helped me. Draco tried but he wasn’t any good so I got Pansy to instead. And I asked Hermione for all your favourite movies and I’ve seen you with all these pastries and hot chocolates a lot this time of year so I thought you’d like them. But I mean if you don’t that’s perfectly fine, I can scrap it all and we can pretend like this never happened and-”
“Yes.” I interrupt his rant with a smile on my face, admiring his stress over whether I’d like the gesture or not.
“And I- Sorry?” He asks breaking his rant confusingly with his eyebrows furrowed.
“Yes, I love it and I’d love to go to the ball with you Theodore.”
“Oh, I- Okay well. Okay. That’s great, that’s…Wow.” He stutters out, surprised at my response.
Theodore Nott stuttering? Nervous? When did that happen? I think to myself as he composes himself again and asks, “Shall we?” pointing to the blanket and movie playing on the projector.
I nod, smiling brightly up at him as I give him a side hug. He tenses for a moment before wrapping his arms around me and hugging back tightly.

The next few weeks leading up to the ball pass by in a blur and it all starts off with me breaking the news to Harry, Ron and Hermione.
“Hey guys,” I say putting my bag down the next day with a brighter smile than usual on my face.
“Hello? What’s got you all giggly?” Harry questions, giving Ron his charms homework to copy frantically before we have to go to the lesson after breakfast.
“Oh, nothing…” I say with a grin, looking over at the Slytherin table only to find Theo already looking at me with a smile, making blood rush up to my cheeks and ears.
Hermione raises her eyebrows at me in question and follows my eyes to the table finding Theo just before he turns away to his friends.
“Y/n?” Hermione says warningly, breaking me into telling them everything.
“Okay fine! Ah, you won’t believe this! You know Theodore?” I squeal.
Harry raises his eyebrows as Ron snaps up from his homework, staring at me, “Who? Nott?”
“Yes,” I reply with my smile getting bigger and bigger as Hermione shakes me by the arm, squealing and giggling. Of course, she’d know, she helped him plan it.
“He asked me to the ball!”
Harry’s frown quickly turns into a huge grin as he looks back at Theo and gives him a thumbs up which Theo returns with an upwards nod and grin.
“And what did you say?” Ron asks, deathly calm.
“I said yes.”
“What?! Why would you do that?” He all but shouts.
“Ron! He’s nice, I want to go with him.”
“How can he be nice he’s a Slytherin.” he sneers.
“Ronald! Why can’t you just be happy for them? At least Nott’s got the courage to ask a girl out.” Hermione says, clearly upset as we both stand up and I stick my tongue out at him, walking out the hall with Hermione as Harry shakes his head disappointedly at Ron.

A few days after there’s a quidditch match and Theo invites me to come watch him play.
“You should come to the match tomorrow.” He whispers as Slughorn drones on about the origin of Amortentia.
“Which? Slytherin and Hufflepuff?” I whisper back toying with my quill.
“Mhm.”
“Why?” I whisper with a smug smile to which Theo replies with a knowing look.
“You know why.”
“I’d like to hear you say it.”
He sighs before surrendering, “Fine. I’d like it if you were there. Happy now?” “Very,” I say with a smile, gathering my things and standing up as Slughorn dismisses our class.
The match goes well with Slytherin winning and Theo flying down to meet me a few times. He’d hover down and give me a smile or point at me after scoring a quaffle.
“Is that Theo’s?” Hermione asks with a smile, pointing to my scarf.
“What? Oh yeah, it is.” I say with a huge smile seeing the scarf he’d given me that night, engraved in silver with his initials.

We’d started studying together too. Almost every night, we’d meet up at the library with hot chocolate and a stack of old books, simply sitting together and reading or helping one another with formulas or spells.
“What did you get for number 12?” Theo asks, the smell of his cologne floods my nose as he leans over, his soft hair gently brushing the side of my jaw.
“I got uhm…I got impedimenta” I slightly stuttered, clearly flustered as Theo looked up at me with a smug grin.
“Oh shut up you prick.” I say, shoving him into the large stack of books next to him, making them tip over and him getting a hard stare from the librarian as I silently laugh at him.

“Hey, have you read this one?” Theo asks, holding a red book up to me with gold lettering on the cover.
The bookshop we’re in is unusually empty compared to the ones I usually go to, this one being Theo’s pick for our trip to Hogsmeade. It seems that there was a part of Hogsmeade that I hadn’t explored yet. Or many other people for that matter.
“Oh yeah, I have, it's so good, the plot twist goes mad.” I say excitedly as Theo raises an eyebrow and puts it in his basket, slowly filling up with books.
The snowstorm outside rages on as I scan the shop from one end to the other for the perfect book to read next (ignoring the reminder in the back of my head that I’ve already got a shelf full of unread books at home).
I pick up a blue book titled, “Edera” and open it up, the story inside intriguing me more than I thought it would. I tear myself away from the book, convincing myself I’d enjoy it more some other time when I’m warmer and decide to check my purse for the change for it instead.
Fuck. I left my wallet in my dorm.
I put the book back where I found it, kicking myself for forgetting my wallet in the rush of getting out early enough and going to where Theo was.
“Hey, ready to go?”
“Yeah almost I just need to pay, you go ahead to the cafe I’ll meet you there.” He says, taking his money out of his coat pocket, approaching the counter.

When Christmas Day morning came, the entire day leading up to the ball had passed by in a blur. Presents were given, food was eaten and Hermione and I had gotten into a massive snowball fight with Harry, Ron, Ginny and the twins. The girls had teamed up against the boys and crushed them in the snow frenzy.
At five o’clock, Hermione, Ginny and I left to go get ready for the event.
The girls got ready in my room, Ginny being in charge of makeup, Hermione in charge of hair and Y/N in charge of the dresses and accessories.
“You know,” I say clasping a diamond necklace on Hermione’s neck, “even though you’re not going with Ron you can still dance with him.”
“That is if he’s not busy with his Lav Lav.” Hermione replies, mocking Ron’s nickname for Lavender Brown.
“Please, once he sees you, he’ll forget all about her,” Ginny speaks up from her place above me, putting a small silver star clip at the side of my hair.

I hastily leave the common room and walk up the stairs leading to the entrance hall, Hermione and Ginny had left a few minutes before me as I had misplaced my shoes.
I stop at the top of the staircase, looking around for my friends.
Ginny had spotted me first, she was talking with Fred and Harry, both of whom were with their dates. Ginny saw me before I saw her and shouted my name waving to get my attention.
Theo turned around first, his mouth dropped as he saw me(, in his opinion, Y/N had never looked more beautiful).
He walked over to meet me at the end of the stairs and said, “You…wow…You look stunning. I like the star.” he adds on, smiling.
“Thank you Theo, you look amazing.” I smile brightly up at him.
We meet up with everyone else, me giving a consoling smile to Ron who admittedly didn’t look half bad in his robes and Harry who looked amazing in his. We all complement one another and walk in together, arms linked with each of our dates.
Instead of the long house tables that were usually in the hall, there were about a hundred smaller ones set for a dozen people, littered all around the space. We all went around and moved to one of the smaller tables. The dining hall was adorned with a massive Christmas tree, ornamented with white and blue baubles, the walls of the hall were covered in sparkling silver frost and hundreds of garlands of mistletoe and ivy hung under the starry ceiling.
The white plates in front of us were empty, except for a single menu resting on each one.
“What are we supposed to do, starve?” Ron exclaimed as Hermione rolled her eyes at him and said the name of whatever she wanted off the menu and it appeared on her plate.
“Oh, I get it now. Thanks, Mione.” Ron smiles up at her, which she ignores. The rest of us filled in pursuit, eating anything we wished while making jokes with one another.
When all the food had been eaten, Dumbledore stood up from his space on the main table and asked everyone to do the same, he then waved his wand and the tables all zoomed to the walls, leaving the floor clear. He then conjured a raised platform complete with guitars, a lute, a cello and bagpipes.
The Weird Sisters walked up to the stage, exciting a sea of applause, they picked up their instruments to play.
“May I have this dance?” I look to the side of me to see Theo half bent over with one hand at his back and the other extended out for me to take it. I giggle at his crooked smile and take his hand, nodding as he pulls me close to him, swaying gently to the slow song.
“Are you enjoying tonight?” Theo asks softly, looking down at me.
“Mhm, I’m having a wonderful time.” I say grinning up at him as he smiles contentedly and says, “Good.”
✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚
We dance and joke the night away together, completely losing track of time until the ball’s long gone along with everyone else and Theo and I are the only people left in the dimmed hall, laughing at each other's jokes.
“And then he goes, ‘My father will hear about this!’ before she wacks him in the face!” Theo lets out in between laughs, sending me creasing over.
He calms down before I do and looks over at me, fiddling with my shoes in his hands that I’d swapped with his long ago. “I’m so sorry Theo I’m never wearing heels again, I swear.” I had said, to which he replied, “Don’t worry love, I’d swap my shoes with you any day.” leaving me a flustered mess.
“You’re so pretty.” He says simply, smiling at me softly.
I don’t say anything in return but smile and take his hand leading him to the nearest mistletoe, his eyes never leaving me.
“Look up,” I whisper.
He looks up in realisation and down again, eyes darting between my lips and eyes.
He slowly leans in, his cologne swarming around me and butterflies erupting in my tummy as I stand on my tiptoes to meet his lips. His hands wrap around my waist, pulling me close as mine go to the hair in the back of his neck and his bicep, holding each tightly in anticipation.
He lets out a soft groan and I can feel his minty breath on my face but before we can touch we’re broken apart by a shout outside.
“Theodore!” the panicked voice gets closer and closer as we break away and reach for our wands.
Draco appears in the doorway, looking dishevelled with his white shirt slightly unbuttoned and the cuffs rolled up. His usually tidy hair is messy and a look of fear and alarm in his eyes, spreading and overtaking the confusion in Theo’s.
The quiet, calm ambience in the room immediately leaves as Draco stands at the doorway nodding his head silently at Theo.
“No,” Theo whispers softly, his hold on my hand becoming tighter as he leads me behind him in protection.
“Theo, what’s going on?” I ask, my voice coming out quieter than I thought it would.
When I don’t get a reply from him I ask the same question to Draco, my voice slightly louder now, laced with panic as I look between the two boys.
“We have to go Theodore. Now.” Draco says before he runs out of sight, leaving Theo and me alone again.
“Theo, can you please tell me what the fuck is going on?” I ask a final time, almost fearing his answer.
“Y/n you need to listen to me very… very carefully.” He says, his voice breaking mid-sentence and his bottom lip quivering.
“Theo…” I hold his hand and he holds mine back tighter.
“It…I…it wasn’t supposed- to be this way I-” He breaks in his words as he holds onto my hands for dear life, tears gathering up in his eyes, threatening to spill out at any second. He takes a deep breath before slowly pulling the robes that were covering his left arm up.
Black ink, seared into his soft skin showing a skull with a snake protruding from its mouth.
The defaced skin around the mark was red hot, clearly irritated and inflicting pain on him.
My stomach dropped, as did my hands from his and his eyebrows furrowed slightly at my flinching away from him. I looked up at him and saw pure pain written all over his face.
“How long Theo?” My voice comes out quiet and broken as tears glass over my eyes.
“Five months.” He whispers.
His reply feels like a punch to the gut, replacing all my feelings of sadness with betrayal.
“Why didn’t you tell me?! You prick! You could’ve told me and I’d fix it, I’d help you fix it Theo, why didn’t you tell me?!” I shout up at him, my fists hitting his strong chest repeatedly as he simply stands there in surrender until my arms and emotions give out and I sob into his chest.
“You can’t.” He says softly, holding me closer as we cry into each other's arms.
He pulls away slightly, still keeping his close hold on me and saying, “Please, please, go to your dorm, lock the door and stay there all night. Please don’t go out for any reason love please just stay there, stay safe, I am begging you.”
“What? Theo, why? No, no I’m- I’m coming with you.”
“No love you can’t. You don’t get it I have to do this, I have to leave.”
“Theo stop, you don’t have to leave, we can go to Dumbledore, we can explain everything, he’ll fix it I know he will.”
“No I…I can’t do this, I'm sorry,” he says with furrowed brows, walking away from me as I walk after him.
“Theo no…please! Theo stop it please, come back.” I say after him, all but begging him to stay.
“This was a mistake,” he says, turning around with a hard look on his face.
“What?” I whisper, feeling like a knife has been pushed through my chest, impaling my heart.
“You heard me.” he nods to himself, hands shaking but keeping the poker face on.
Pain, betrayal, hurt and anger rush through me, chilling me to the bone as my face hardens and tears stop.
“You’re an asshole, Theodore Nott! I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!” is the last thing I say to Theo before he leaves and with that I’m left alone sobbing on the floor in my gown.
✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚
“Y/n!” Hermione shouts my name as I enter the dorm with puffy eyes.
I look up to find almost everyone from our year sitting around somewhere in the common room, some in gowns and robes and others in pyjamas, nonetheless all holding each other as they cry together.
“Hermione…what’s going on?”
“Dumbledore’s dead,” she answers in a broken whisper, “and Malfoy and Nott are gone.” My stomach drops as my brain goes straight to Draco and Theo. They never deserved this, they’re only kids. We all sit around crying and consoling one another before early morning comes and we go to our dorms.
As I enter my room something on the bed catches my eye, making what’s left of my heart drop to my stomach and tears rush to my eyes once again.
The blue book.
Theo.

“Sirius!”, I laugh as he opens the door taking me in his arms.
“Y/n! How’ve you been? Are you alright darling?” He asks in concern, eyeing me up and down to check for any wounds I could’ve obtained from my Floo from Platform 9¾ to Grimmauld Place.
“Yes Sirius, I’m fine don’t worry. How are you, are you okay?”
“I’m just fine sweetheart,” He says, giving me a big smile, “Come on let's get you settled and have some dinner.”
Sirius has been as good as a father as I could have ever asked for. He’s my uncle of course, but since he’s been taking care of me since I was a newborn baby, relation titles hardly makes a difference. To him, I’ll always be his daughter, and to me, he’ll always be my father.
My mother decided to hand me over to the first person who would take me the second I was born and with no word of who my father was, Sirius, Remus and the Weasleys have been the only family I’ve had and I’d never ask for anything more.
“When are the others getting here?” I sit on the sofa, playing with my cat Archie while waiting for Sirius to finish cooking dinner.
“Well,” he responds from his place in the kitchen, “the Weasleys, Padfoot and Tonks will be here soon with Hermione, but Moody’s gone to get Harry from Privet Drive, needed to get some things.”
I leave Archie playing with a toy and walk to the kitchen.
“How was school? Get into any trouble?” He wiggles his eyebrows at me playfully as I take a seat on the counter.
I smile before responding, “Some, thanks for the map, by the way, really helped.”
“My pleasure darling. So, have you heard any word from Draco?”
I clear my throat and look down as I answer him, anxiety flooding me and chilling me to the bone as I think of my cousin.
He may be a foul, dirty-mouthed git with bleach-box crusty hair, but he’s my cousin at the end of the day and the only person from my family that I’m close to except for Sirius.
“Uhm, no…not yet.”
“What about that other boy? The one you came here with that one time in fourth year. What was his name…Thaddaeus?”
“Theodore. And no. I haven’t.” At the mention of his name, all my feelings of anxiety and worry vanish, being replaced by the cold feeling of betrayal and hatred.
Sirius holds my hand and gives it a squeeze with a reassuring smile, opening his mouth to say something comforting I’m sure until he’s interrupted by the front door opening.
“Yn!” Hermione laughs as I jump off the counter and give her a big hug, Ron joining in not long after.
“Molly, Arthur, how’ve you been?” Sirius meets them as I meet up with Remus and Tonks coming up behind them.
After Dumbledore’s death, the year at Hogwarts was finished early, leaving students and staff time to mourn his death, but since the threats and close calls from Voldemort, we’d all decided that the Order would move to Grimauld Place along with Harry to keep us all as safe as possible.
I haven’t received word from any of my family or seen any of them, except Sirius, since Draco left on the night of the Yule Ball.
God that night still haunts me.
I shut out any thoughts of that night and Theo and help Sirius serve dinner instead.
“But doesn’t the trace end at seventeen?” Harry speaks up from his place on the table, shaking me out of my daydream.
“It does but with these dark forces controlling the Ministry, we can’t take any chances Harry.” Remus replies, pouring drinks for everyone as I take a seat in between Fred and George.
“Alright Y/n?” They both say in unison.
“Perfect,” I say with a smile, “How’s the shop?”
“Bit slow at first, what with You-Know-Who coming back, but we’ve been picking up a lot. Got about fifty new orders just today!” Fred responds as George shows me a list of orders from his pocket.
“Still don’t understand why I can’t have any discounts.” Ron grumbles from across the table.
Fred and George lean into me, giving me a hug from each side as I laugh at Ron’s sour face, “Those discounts are only for our favoured ones.” George adds.
“Its discriminatory if you ask me.” Ron complains.
“Well, good thing we didn’t ask you, eh brother?” Fred remarks, laughing with me and George.
“Well regardless of anything, all we can be sure of is that Voldemort’s back and he won’t stop at any length to kill you Harry.” Sirius says from the end of the table, Voldemort’s name causing everyones sub-conversations to go quiet.
“Right well,” Mrs Weasley says, breaking the silence, “That’s enough of that, eat up everyone we’ve got a very busy day tomorrow.”
“Ah yes, when’s the wedding Molly?” Tonks says, her hair bubblegum pink.
“Eight pm.” Mrs Weasley says with a smile as we all start to joke around, getting more comfortable from the tense conversation previously.
✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚✧ ‧˚₊ ❆ ‧ ₊ ⊹˚
“Come on now, up to your rooms the lot of you.” Mrs Weasley shouts from the bottom of the stairs.
“Mum have you seen my toothbrush?!” Ron shouts from the top of the stairs as I walk past Mrs Weasley to the living room to get my reading book, her frustrated huff making me smile.
Picking up my book, I go to leave before I see the one below it.
The blue book.
Tears begin to flood my eyes as I see the letters stuffed into the pages.
Theo’s written to me a few times. Nothing much of material and nothing to which I’ve replied to. He’s written vaguely and as if were the same, as if we were back at school and everything was fine. With the world, with us. Most of the thingshe writes don’t make any sense or are quotes from books he’s recommended me in the past with random bolded words. Things like:
“you can find something truly important in an ordinary minute.” from One More Day.
“i could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.” from Pride and Prejudice.
“This is how the girl who couldn't speak and the man who couldn't see fell in love.” from The Blind Assasin.
“There is always something left to love.” from One Hundered Years of Solitude.
“Star child, are you listening? I died that day.” from The Star Child.
“But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.” from The Little Prince.
I sigh, putting the letter back in their place, turning the lights off downstairs now that everyones gone to bed, and start making my way to my room.
Click.
I freeze in my steps.
What the fuck?
I reach out for my wand, cluthcing it tightly as I walk slowly to the door. The doorknob feels cold as I turn it slowly and I can see my shaky breath in the vapour.
I open the door and see no one.
“Hi Y/n.”
Expelliarmus! I shout in my head, disarming whoever was beside me.
“What’d you do that for?!”
I open my tightly shut eyes and a sharp inhale of breath quickly follows.
“Draco!” I whisper as I hug my cousin tightly. He hesitates at first but hugs back after a moment, tighter than I had.
“Are you okay? I haven’t heard from you in months.” I say, scanning him over. He looks paler and his eyes are duller.
We sit on the steps of the house and I hold onto his hand as he begins to talk.
“Everythings gone to shit Y/n. It’s all so so fucked up. They’re forcing me to do things I wouldn't have ever even imagined. And the others too. We’re all being forced to torture and…and kill innocent people.”
“Have you…”
“Killed someone? No, well almost. A few months ago and it haunts me. Every night.”
His voice wavers and breaks in between his sentences. Tears cloud his eyes and I reach for his head and kean it against my shoulder, letting him sob into me.
I cry with him as I stroke his hair until we finish and sit in comfortable silence.
“Hey, at least your hair’s not that crispy to the touch.” I joke quietly, receiving a laugh from Draco.
Theres a short pause before Draco lifts his head, wipes my tears and says, “Don’t cry. I don’t like seeing you cry.”
“Malfoy’s a big softie now eh? Just wait till I tell everyone at Hogwarts.”
He snickers at my remark and after a pause says,
“He’s not all that well either you know.”
My face hardens at the mention of him. “I don’t care if he’s well or not.”
“Except that you do. He’s sent you letters I hear?”
“Not letters,” I grumble, looking down at the dark pavement, wet from the previous rain, “Short quotes. From those books he used to read to me. They’re usually one sentence and make no sense.”
“Well I suppose he can’t say anything too vague. What with all our letters and things being censored and approved by the Ministry before they’re allowed to be let out.”
“I don’t know. Censored or not, I hate him. And his stupid letters.”
“You might want to give him a chance Y/n,” Draco says standing up to leave, holding out his hand for me to take, “He’s not exactly alright.”
Draco’s words make my stomach turn in on itself, anxiety flooding my heart.
No. He’s a lying git.
“Here,” Draco says, passing me a letter from his pocket, “He made me sneak this to you. I may not get a chance to leave but I will help him. Read the letters he’s sent you again.”
With a final hug and kiss on the cheek, Draco disapparates, leaving me confused by his words.
I go back to my room, seeing Hermione sleeping peacefully on her bed and snuggle into mine.
“Lumos.” I whisper, my wand lighting up as I open the letter.
“Spinners’ end.”
It simply stated.
Read the letters he’s sent you again. I hear Draco’s voice in the back of my mind and conjure my blue book, taking the letters out again and placing them all by each other in order of their arrival.
I stare at them for a few minutes, reading and rereading them again and again before it sticks out to me like a splatter of paint on a white wall.
The bold.
All the letters have a word singled out in bold, I grabbed the quill on my bedside and scribbled down in the front page of the blue book, the only paper I had on hand, each bold word on the letters.
I stare at the mixed up words for a minute, searching my mind for sentence combinations until they make one.
i need to see you star.
And with that, all my defences come crumbling down.

Beep.
I turn my head to look at the digital clock on my bedside. The red numbers reading 11:55.
Thoughts frenzy in my mind.
Should I go?
Is it a trap?
Will it put the others at risk?
My mind debates with itself for a few more minutes, dodging back and forth as my heart battles with the conscience in my mind.
11:56
11:57
11:58
11:59.
Fuck it.
I throw the duvet off of myself, slipping into my coat and shoes before apparating to Spinners’ End.
Nervousness chews at me as I walk up the hill to the lone tree on top. I see a tall figure in the moonlight, leaning on the tree smoking a cigarette.
Fuck.
Anxiety and hurt flow though me, chilling me to the bone alongside the cold weather.
I take a deep breath, rubbing my hands together in a weak attempt to warm them up and walk to the figure. The light from the cigarette illuminating his sharp features as he raises it to his mouth.
“Hey.” I say simply, causing him to turn around in alarm. He drops the cigarette and breathes heavily, staring at me with an ache in his eyes.
“Hey,” he whispers out breathily, his eyes fixed on mine.
I take a long look at him, noticing the circles around his eyes suggesting he hasn’t been sleeping well, and the sunken look of his cheekbones and neck revealing he hasn’t been eating routinely either.
“I…” He starts off quietly and clears his throat, not taking his eyes off me once, “Are you alright?”
I scoff and release a humourless laugh, “As if you fucking care Nott.”
He visibly flinches at the name. Hurt flashes though his eyes as he looks down in shame.
I sigh, looking down at my shoes and up at him again, “What do you want Nott? Why this secret meeting?”
“I needed to see you,” He responds plainly and adds on after seeing my pointed look, “And I need your help.”
“With what?” “I need to get out if that house, of that group, of that.” He says, frustrated, “I never wanted any of this but now I need your help getting out of it. I know I hurt you darling, and trust me I’ll never forgive myself for it but please, you’re the only one who can help me.”
I look up to the sky, debating his words. I won’t forgive him, I can’t but I can’t deny him of help either. I look up to see his blue eyes trained on me.
I sigh and answer, “I will help you. Not because I’m forgiving you Nott, I won’t forgive you. I can’t do that, you’ve hurt me too much. But I’m not going to depreive you of a better future either.”
Relief floods his body and it’s visible in the sigh he lets out and the big smile that appears on his face.
“I’ll need to tell Sirius and the others.”
“Oh no don’t worry, Draco’s already spoken to Sirius.”
I raise my eyebrows at his bravery. I decide to let it go becuase I’m cold and tired and tell him to follow me home.
“Come on then.” I grumble.

The preparations for the wedding are in full swing now, with Bill and Fleur arriving later today. The wedding was planned to be in a few months but with the upcoming war and constant fear from all around us, we’ve decided to do it as soon as possible.
“Alright, everyone ready?” Mr Weasley shouts from his place at the foot of the tent, “Wands at the ready, and up!”
We all raise our wands and help Mr Weasley raise the tent for the wedding. It’s beautiful, pale white with lavender embellishments. And its huge inside, big enough to fit all our guests and then some.
I head up the stairs to help Hermione and Ginny get Fleur ready.
“Oh you look absolutely dazzling Fleur!” I squeal along with the giggling girls as Fleur comes out in her wedding dress.
“Just wait till Bill sees you, we'll need to get Madam Pomfrey!” Ginny adds.
“Merci les filles!” Fleur thanks as Hermione finishes her hair with a big smile.
Theres a knock on the door and I open it to reveal Mrs Weasley, “Oh Fleur darling you look beautiful! Girls what are you doing?! Go get ready, hurry up now the guests will be arriving any minute now!” Mrs Weasley pushes, Hermione, Ginny and I out the room to get ready.

I’ve been avoiding Theodore all day today, at breakfast when he tried to sit next to me I shoved Harry down immediately to take up the seat. I avoided any eye contact he tried to make and ignored the numerous conversations people were having with him, everyones already loving him, especially Mrs Weasley, Sirius and Remus. Even Ron’s taken a liking to him. A Slytherin and Ron getting along? Unheard of.
I slip into my bridesmaid dress and call out for Hermione or Ginny to zip up my dress. Theres no response which concludes me to go looking around the house awkwardly, searching for someone to help me. My attention is drawn to outside, where almost everyone is setting up the last few flower bouquets and decorations. I walk into the kitchen to hopefully find Ron avoiding doing any jobs but am met with another figure.
Fuck.
I clear my throat to tear Theodore’s attention from the tea he was making from everyone, making him snap his head up. I see him looking at me up and down and I turn around before he has a chance to charm me with his eyes again.
“Zip me up will you?” I say, pulling my hair to the side to expose my back.
I hear Theodore’s footsteps come close to me and feel his cold fingers on the small of my back, taking hold of the zip and starting to pull up slowly.
I can feel his breath on my neck as he leans in and I can feel the heat from his body on my back, contrasting with the cold of his hands.
He reaches the top of the dress and before I can feel the brush of his soft lips on my neck, I walk away muttering a soft, “Thanks.”

The wedding is going beautifully with the odd mishap here and there but its nothing Mrs Weasley can’t fix in the flick of her wand. Hermione, Ginny and I walk up the aisle, waiting for Fleur alongside Bill and his best men. We walk up slowly and in order and I catch Theodore’s eye as I reach the aisle. Something flashes in his eyes as he stares up at me from his place in the back of the room but my attention is diverted when everyone in front of him stands up, hiding him from my vision. Fleur walks up the aisle gracefully in her stunning white dress. Hermione starts to cry and I give her a handkerchief I had brought for this very situation. I can’t control my smile as Bill and Fleur take vows and first dance.
The whole wedding seems magical and is in full swing by now. People are chatting, drinking, swapping war stories or either making out in a dark corner. I excuse myself from a conversation by a dull man, something about the history of transfiguration and its impact on society, and go to the bar to get a drink.
“Firewhiskey please.” I say to the bartender, he doesn’t bother to look up at me as he passes me a glass.
“Hello.” A strong French accent catches me by surprise and I look to my left to find the voice.
A handsome young man, brunette with blue eyes and sharp features stares down at me from his height with a dimpled smile. I smile back and reply, “Hello.”
“I apologise Miss, but I feel as though we have met before? At the Triwizard Tournament a few years back?”
“Ah yes! You’re Thomas, aren't you?” My memory jogs back up to me as I take a sip of the whiskey in my hand as Thomas nods and says,
“Oui, my apologies, yes, I am Thomas. Y/n right?” he speaks in his deep voice, his accent already taking me in a trance the second he said my name.
“Yes that’s right. How’ve you been Thomas?” I reply, trying to flirt with him.
Thomas and I had gone out a few times in fourth year, he’d taken me to my first Yule Ball and we had shared a kiss under the mistletoe, but in all the frenzy of Voldemort coming back and Cedric Diggory dying, we’d lost contact of one another.
“I am very well thank you, how about you? Still so bad at dancing?” He jokes, remarking the moment at the Yule Ball when I had slightly tripped over myself in the middle of our dance.
I laugh and respond, “Why don’t we find out?”
He raises a brow at me and smirks, holding his hand out to me. I down the drink in my hand, placing the empty glass on the counter top and take his hand, smirking as he leads us to the dance floor.
We dance well, joking around and coming closer and closer each second until my eyes catch anothers on the other side of the room.
Theodore’s blue eyes burn holes though me as he doesnt look away. Not once though the many dances and talks Thomas and I share. Thomas excuses himself to leave for the restroom when Theodore makes him trip up and spill his glass of wine on himself and I gladly let him go, planning to talk to Theodore about his problem instead.
I walk over to him and see him drinking a glass of firewhiskey, leaning on one of the pillars, looking handsome as ever in his black and white robes and neat hair.
“What’s your issue?!” I shout roughly at him, seeing the shadow of a hidden smirk on his pink lips.
He sips his drink and replies plainly, “I don’t have an issue.”
“Oh come off it Nott. What are you playing at?” “I already told you, I dont have a problem. Go dance with Mr. Baguette again.”
I give him a disgusted look and shake my head before he pulls me behind the curtain with him by my arm, bringing me impossible close to him.
“What are you doing Theodore?” I whisper, the proximity of our bodies making my face flush and breath get shorter.
His dark eyes dart between my lips and eyes and I begin to realise the situation at hand. “Are you jealous Nott?” I say with a smirk, bringing my hands slowly up his bicep and seeing his eyes dart faster and breath get heavier.
“Of course I’m not. What do I have to be jealous of?” he replies, his hands going to the back of my neck, up to my hair and the other tightening its grip on the small of my back.
“You tell me.”
“Who were you dancing with? What’s his name” Theodore whispers.
“Thomas.”
A laugh escapes from Theodore as he leans his head back, making my eyebrows furrow in confusion. “I’m sorry, what’s so funny?” He gives me a look as to say, seriously?
“Darling…you can’t be that blind.”
I give him another confused look to which he replies, “He’s exactly like me.”
I push him off of me at that and rip the curtain away, now back in the dark corner in which Theodore follows.
“No think about it,” He carries on, “He’s got blue eyes and brown hair, he’s almost as tall as me, european too except I’m not a fucking frenchie. And he’s had his eyes on you this whole time. If you ask me darling I think you’re the one here who’s jealous.”
“What? Of course I’m not.” I say in absurdity.
“So you’d be fine if I made out with that girl over there.” He points to a veela across the room, making my hands form into fists and anger rise up in my chest.
“Yes. I would.” I grit out between my teeth, seeing his satisfied smirk only makes me angrier, “You know, I don’t get it. You leave me alone without any real communication for months, and then Draco shows up with some stupid note of yours and you ask for my help and you expect me to just be fine with everything. Like oh no Theo, you shattered my heart and broke my trust but don’t worry it’s all good, lets go have a picnic at the beach?” I finish my rant sarcastically, looking at Theodore to find the smugness wiped clear off his face, replaces by a cold hard expression.
“You know, I tried to make things fine between us, I did send you letters when I could and you know why I had to leave. I’ve already told you that I’m sorry for leaving, and I am, but if you want to keep being like this then fine. I will too.” he replies back coldly.
We stare at each other with fire behind our eyes, filled with frustration from the person in front of us and I’m about to make a snide remark until my voice is cut off by Kingsley Shacklebolt’s voice, the patronus silencing any other conversations and stealing everyones attention.
“The ministry has fallen. The Minister of Magic, is dead. They are coming. They are coming. They are coming.”
The patronus dies out, causing eveyrone to run and apparate left and right in fear.
Everything after the announcement is a blur. My breath gets heavier as I stay there, stunned. I’m broken out of my trance as I see Harry, Hermione and Ron try running towards one another. A hand grabs mine and I look up to find Theodore leading me towards the three, we’re all being pushed by Remus whos yelling at us to, “GO! GO!”. All of us have got our wands out by now and are summoning our patronus’ to fight back at the dementors taking swings at us until Hermione apparates us to a busy road.
We all yelp and run out of the way of a honking London bus, trying to comprehend the last sixty seconds as we breath heavily.
Theodore’s hand has a strong grip on mine as we all walk to the footpath, trying to find somehwere to change per Hermione’s demand. The busy city rages on, the bright billboards showing ads and people walking quickly here and there. We get many odd looks plus a few wolf whistles from a couple of drunk men on the street, to which Harry, Ron and Theodore stop, reaching for their wands or fists until Hermione and I remind them what’s more important.
“Where are we Hermione?” Ron asks, almost getting trampled on by a group of tourists. “Shaftsbury Avenue. I use to come to the theatre here with mum and dad.” Hermione replies, “I don’t know why I thought of it, it just popped into my head.”
We walk into a dark, empty ally and Hermione reaches into her small bag, it engulfs her entire arm as she pulls out ordinary clothes for each of us.
“How the ruddy…” Ron starts, as we all change into our clothes. “Undetectable extension charm.”
“Bloody brilliant you are.” Ron compliments Hermione, making Harry and I smirk as we change our shoes.
“Always the tone of surprise.”
“Come on,” Theodore says, walking up the ally a bit after we’ve all changed, “Let’s go here for a while. We can figure out what to do next.”
We all follow him to a depressive cafe. Blue lights everywhere and its mainly empty, spare the moody waitress.

We entered the blue-lit cafe hesitantly, cautious of our whereabouts. Harry slid into the red booth first on one side, quickly followed by me and Theodore with Hermione and Ron on the other side.
“What about all the people at the wedding?” Harry spoke up, looking around at all of us in worry, “Do you think we should go back?”
“They were after you mate,” Ron said with a shake of his head, “We’d put everyone in danger by going back.”
The moody waitress walks up to our booth, leaning on one leg with headphones in her ears.
“Coffee?” she asks us with a huff, diverting our attention from one another to the menu above the counter.
“A cappuccino please.” Hermione asks politely to which the waitress agrees curtly before asking the rest of us.
“Uhm…what she said,” Ron answers.
“Same,” Harry says.
“Me too.” I nod.
“Yeah, same.” Theo agrees.
She quickly turns around and moves to go back to the kitchen to prepare the five drinks as we quickly return to our plan.
“So, where do we go from here? Leaky Cauldron?” Ron asks as soon as she’s out of sight.
“No, it’s too dangerous.” Hermione shakes her head, “If Voldemort has taken over the ministry then none of the places are safe.”
I look around as everyone debates to try and come up with a game plan and notice the peeling paint on the wall and the dirty coffee machines. But what catches my attention is the two strange burly men who trudge into the cafe. They look around sinisterly and fix their eyes for a moment with us. Theodore seems to catch my gaze, quickly followed by Harry as they both yell “Down!” as the men start shooting spells at us.
“Stupefy!”
“Expulso!”
“Expelliarmus!”
“Petrificus totalus!”
We shoot spells left and right at the two men until finally, they’re unconscious.
The waitress walks out in worry as Hermione yells at her to go, I oblivate her as she walks out the back door in a hurry.
“Lock the door, get the lights,” Harry commands as Hermione and I start to shut down the shop and Ron gathers the lights in his deluminator. Theo walks up beside Harry, both looking down at the man on the floor.
“This one’s name’s Rowle.” Harry speaks up, not taking his eyes off the man, “He was on the astronomy tower the night Snape killed Dumbledore.”
Hermione and I come up behind Theo and Harry as they walk over to join Ron as he says, “This is Dolohov. I recognise him from the wanted posters.”
“What should we do with them?” I ask, looking around at everyone's worried faces.
“They’d kill us if it were the other way round, why don’t we kill them too?” Ron speaks up angrily.
“If we kill them, they’d know we were here,” Theo says, trying to calm Ron down.
Ron shakes his head, turning around to face the rest of us as Hermione warns, “Ron…”
“No, Suppose he did Mad-eye. How’d you feel then?” he snaps.
“It’s better we just wipe their memories,” I say, earning agreeing nods from Theo, Hermione and Harry.
“Fine. Whatever, you’re the boss.” Ron says, thankfully calmer now.
Hermione performs the charms as I open one of the doors so we can leave, and we walk out into the icy breeze of mid-winter London.

We dodge and push our way through the iconic London underground, dimly lit orange lights paving our way and regular chatter and train railings filling our ears.
“How’d they know where we were anyway?” Harry asks, almost bumping into a lady with a pram and quickly apologising afterwards.
“Maybe you still have the trace on you?” Hermione brainstorms as she pulls Ron from bashing into an elderly couple.
“Can't be. Trace breaks at 17, it's wizarding law.” Harry says shortly, attracting mine and Hermione’s attention.
“What?” he says after Hermione and I gasp.
“We didn’t celebrate your birthday Harry,” I say solemnly. “We’d made a cake, we were going to bring it out at the end of the wedding.”
“Look, guys, honestly, I really appreciate the thought but seeing as we were just nearly killed by death eaters in a muggle cafe…” he dodges a group of small boys running around.
“Right,” Hermione says looking ahead, “Priorities.”
I smile, looking at Ron, remembering the thing he’d said in first year about Hermione needing to get her priorities straight before two strong arms pull me towards them. I look up as we keep walking and Theo releases me from his hold, I give him a questioning look as he points behind him to a woman running away in a hurry, whom Theo had avoided me from colliding with.
I give him a tight smile and mutter thanks before linking arms with Hermione and walking faster than the boys, thinking about where we were going to go from here.

“Hermione what’s for dinner?!” Ron yells across the huge tent from his room.
Hermione rolls her eyes and shouts back, “Soup!” as I laugh next to her, making tea and coffee for all of us. The tent is surprisingly comfortable with lots of room to move around and quite a relaxing ambiance which is useful for our constant nerves.
I pass Hermione her tea and carry the other cups to the living room where Harry and Theodore are, sitting on the sofas going over the plans for the next few weeks and trying to work out where the other horcruxes may be. Ron’s in his room trying to put his clothes away which is a first.
I take my cup of coffee from the table as the boys take theirs and sit in the armchair with the book Dumbledore gave her, reading it and re-reading it again and again as the night goes on. Harry and Theo’s conversations drone out as Hermione’s soup brings rest and my eyelids fall heavy.
I stir awake slightly when I feel Theo carry me to my room; I peek an eye at him as he takes my shoes off for me and tucks me in. He goes behind me and undoes my hair, brushing it gently and loosely attempting to braid it before pecking me on the cheek gently and leaving as quietly as he could.
The next morning I walk down to the kitchen to find Theo making breakfast for everyone. We haven’t spoken properly since last night at the wedding and even that conversation was cut short. He looks up at me with his watercolour eyes and flashes a soft smile which I return. I take a seat on one of the counters as he works, flipping pancakes and spreading nutella on others. He has soft music playing on the radio which helps make the silence less awkward. I decide to break it as I joke, “Since when did you learn to make pancakes?”
He looks up at me with a grin and looks back down to his pancake as he responds, “Since the day you told me you liked them.”
His response leaves me stunned and I look down thinking back to one of our morning study sessions in the library when I complained about how much I’d rather be eating a massive stack of pancakes at that moment rather than studying. He’d joked back to me with a sly smirk, ‘Is it so bad to be studying with me?’ to which I had responded by kissing him.
“Here.” His deep voice breaks me from my thoughts as I look down and see him with a plate of pancakes for me with my favourite toppings. The gesture floods me with nothing but bliss and I accept the plate, jumping down from the counter and giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. I smirk as his neck reddens and he shoves me away jokingly to eat my food.
“So,” I start as we both sit next to one another on the large sofas, each nursing a plate of pancakes and a cup of coffee.
“So,” He responds, “Do you want some maple syrup?”
“Ew no, maple syrup with nutella? Theo are you mad, I’m not Ron.” I laugh as he joins in.
“What?” I say, noticing him falling quiet after a moment and staring at me.
“You called me Theo.” He says plainly with a slight grin, making me blush profusely.
Even though his leaving was heartbreaking for me, the fact that he came back and is trying to do better means the world to me. I thought I may have liked him before in Hogwarts, but reading all those letters he’d sent me day after day with no reciprocated response and seeing how gentle he had been with me these past few days and seeing him sitting across from me now laughing about another stupid joke I made had made me realise I’m falling for him. Hard.
