Hand Sewing - Tumblr Posts
My brain decided that staying up almost all night hand sewing a ankle length dress was a great idea and now I’m not sure whether I should keep myself awake to finish it (all that’s left is hemming and straps) or take a nap since I only got ~2 hours of sleep
Currently I’m leaning towards reading a book and blasting folk music while finishing it
Tried my hand at embroidery for the first time by making this little llama! I'm relatively new at hand sewing and the fabric was kinda old and loosely woven so it looks a little messy but it was fun to make. :)

I have only gotten dumber since learning how to hand sew. Now, instead of seam ripping the darts I made so I can flip the jacket I'm shortening inside out to machine sew it shut, I'm keeping them and just hand sewing the entire thing.
*Long sigh.* Why do I keep doing this to myself?

Finished some new embroidered patches for my jacket; I’m quite happy with how they turned out. Patches hurt my hands to make but when they’re done, they’re fun. Hehe c:
The patches on here are the tbh/autism creature, a little turtle guy, and a worm on a string I completed last year.
PS I know my stitches are messy I don’t have the best stitching when it comes to sewing ^^;

I need to get pictures of him in better light, but here is The Boy.
Shortly after season 1 of The Bad Batch had ended (back in 2021?), I decided to make a plush Echo. "If they won't make an official one, I'll just make one, myself."
He was sewn entirely by hand, and has hand painted details, as well.
Of course, I had never learned how to sew, before starting on that project. I watched one seven-minute YouTube video on how to sew, and went with it. I made a prototype in all white first, just to get some experience with sewing and to test out my pattern--which I made, myself.
I needed to stop by the craft store to get some stuff for a school project, and I had the idea to try to remake Pix E.'s missing pajamas (and hair clips). They're a little sloppy, but I did my best. ^^'

Pajama materials include solid magenta and teal fabrics, yellow and turquoise paint markers, pink glitter tulle, and iridescent white glitter glue. I painted the stripes onto the pants fabric and the fireflies onto the shirt fabric, stitched on the tulle trim, smeared glitter glue onto the pants fabric to give it that nice sparkle, and sewed the outfit pieces together. The shirt is held in place with Velcro, while the pants are just pants. They're loose and prone to falling down, but that shouldn't be an issue as long as Pix is sitting. As for the hair clips, they're just Rainbow Loom bands held in place by G-clips.
So yeah. My work isn't perfect, but I'm proud of myself for at least trying.
(Also, Mittens Fluff-n-Stuff may or may not be joining my collection depending on how well I do on an upcoming high-stakes test. 👀)
Big Brain Time
I've decided to go on a quest for G1 Lagoona's fashion packs, starting with her Scream Uniform.

Problem is, it's old, so people are selling it for stupid prices. The most worthwhile way I was able to get my hands on this one was to buy it in parts...but another problem arises. No one is selling her bikini top by itself. That's the only part I was missing. (Well, and the earrings, but I plan to use it on Dead Tired Lagoona, who doesn't have earring holes anyway.)
Luckily, I was able to devise a solution using another part of my collection.

I have the Original Ghouls Collection Lagoona, which is essentially a lower-quality basic/first-wave Lagoona. She has the same scale pattern on her hoodie, anyway. I cut out a section from the back of OG's hoodie, shaped it to look like a bikini top, and stitched some ribbons to it for structure and support. For the finishing touch, I took a couple of Crayola markers and colored over the fabric/ribbons to make them match the artwork.
I'm pretty proud of the final product! Here's Skull Shores Lagoona modeling it. :)

I have now learned to make a really really terrible pouch

Made another pouch, but starting to feel like giving up cause everyone I knew already knows how to sew and I feel inadequate, anyways, tadda

Recovered from drama, further button practice (Dad says the button is too loose so I'll work on that)

WHY. WON'T. YOU. STAY. FOLDED.
PIECE. OF. SHIT. FABRIC.
DIE.
The iron is only working on two of the four sides for some reason, and the other two won't stay down no matter how many pins I stick down
Dunno what I'm doing wrong
And nobody is making sense when they try to help
Will update if I figure this out

Oops, there I go sewing again... A follow up to last year's MetalGreymon plush, what would be more appropriate to follow up with than WereGarurumon?
This came out to be a bit taller than I wanted, measuring about a foot tall if you don't include the ears, but I am incredibly happy with how it turned out! Its a MUCH smaller project than the last one, so it took just over four weeks to complete, and could have been done faster if life hadn't got in the way. But I love how detail dense it is, especially the pants! I also experimented with a new technique of using the string itself to make some of the details, like the scars and mouth, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Once again, this model is made entirely out of felt and was entirely hand stitched (I don't know how to use a sewing machine...). This was a lot of fun to work on and I love how both figures look standing next to each other. Guess I'm going to HAVE to make four or six more...
Fun Fact: Apparently there are two designs of WereGarurumon. One with a tail and one without. I always assumed that art Ive seen of it with a tail was just an artistic choice or mistake, because the anime never gave it one, nor does the figure I used for reference. BUT the original artwork for it does have a tail, even if 99% of it is covered up. Anyway, I didn't realize this until the 11th hour, made one, and decided it looked better without one. I'm just obsessed with the fact that it took me about twenty years to figure that out...
Fun Fact 2: A lot of the comments on the MetalGreymon plush were asking how I'm able to make this sorts of things when I don't use any sorts of patterns, and I never really had an answer. I just understand how to material works, and that comes with experience. HOWEVER, I learned from my aunt, my Mom's sister, that she is able to do something similar and can recreate a pocketbook from just seeing it. And she told me that her grandmother, my great-grandmother, who immigrated from Cuba close to a century ago, and who died long before I was born, was also able to do this with dresses. So combine that talent with an ADHD fueled ability to sit and do a simple task for hours and hours, and you get an ability to make things (tm). Anyway, just a cool story about where my talents might come from that makes me feel connected to parts of my family that I never got to know.

I made myself a long black skirt to cope with the fact that we are going into lockdown again
I have so much respect for the people of old who handsew all their clothes. It’s so fucking much work to get even a little bit of solid stitching done.

I'm about to make so many dolls
I have no idea what possessed me to get up last night, make a hot chocolate, and finish making tiny shoes, but whatever it was was some kind of animal
