Okay so, in my version of the ghost universe the ghouls are fucked up experiments. Ghouls cannot be summoned they must be created, I've explained how they must be created in another post that goes alongside this one.

The clergy originally began experimenting on willing followers back in the 40s a little after WW2, they failed horribly each time until sometime in the 50s where they took a small group of followers and managed to turn them into ghouls.

These ghouls were gifted to the original Emeritus, they only managed to survive about four years before they gave into their elements and withered away. Now, seeing that it was in fact possible the clergy began experimenting more and more to get better results.

Soon they had their first successful batch of ghouls, they were given to the first Emeritus and they lived well over 13 years before they decided they needed more for the new cardinal who was going to take the place of the third Emeritus.

The clergy needed to get rid of these ghouls which prompted the experiments I talked about in a previous post, it worked and they had another batch of ghouls who were ready to protect and serve their cardinal at all costs.

How do these ghouls react? They're scared, skittish and wildly unpredictable. Dewdrop will overheat and sometimes catch things on fire, Aether makes things float or makes people pass out if they're near him for too long, Cirrus and Cumulus make people short in the breath, Rain can't be near water for too long or else it starts to gravitate near him, Mountain always grows random plants on spores on his body that need to be removed, Swiss can make you feel weak and fatigued if he touches you.

The Cardinal realizes all of these ghouls need help and he's made it his mission to protect them and get them comfortable in the body they're in, after years of rehabilitation it works and they're now mostly functional.

What the Cardinal, now Papa emeritus the fourth, didn't know is that they needed two more new ghouls and in the middle of the night the clergy stole two selected ghouls and began the process all over again.

The fifth Emeritus blames himself all of the time for not being able to protect his ghouls, it set so much progress back for all of them and now he needs to repeat all of the rehabilitation again with every single one of them.

Can we get more sad rain angst, please?

This is lore of my "created ghouls" AU, enjoy!!

Do you think Rain had a family before he was forced to be a ghoul? Do you think his memory is foggy and scarce and he tries so hard to remember them? Do you think he gets so close to remembering them before they're ripped away again?

Do you think he has dreams of the woman he married and the daughter they had? Do you think he tries to piece together who they are? He gets so close to touching them and they're gone just like that and he wakes up all confused and scared.

Maybe he catches a glimpse of a woman who reminds him of his dream at a concert and he locks eyes with her, she seems so familiar but he can't figure out who she is at all. Oh! She has a daughter too? Why are they so familiar to him? Who are they?

He'll go home and he'll have another dream, it was that woman again and she was smiling at him and calling out. Rain can't understand her, her words sound muffled as she calls for him, he tries to chase after her but his legs won't budge at all.

Rain wakes up in a cold sweat as he looks around, he catches a glimpse of his hand as he studies them more. He had an imprint of something on one of his fingers, what was this? Was there something there that he couldn't figure out?

Rain fell back asleep and this time it was static, the woman or girl didn't come back to him. During their show Rain catches a glimpse of the young girl from last time, huh, she almost looks like him. Eh, it's probably nothing, but still Rain can't shake the feeling he knows her from somewhere.

Okay so, the ghouls were human! Of course they were, they had jobs, families, hobbies, a life. But what were they like before all of this? Were they happy? Did they enjoy life? What pushed them towards becoming a follower and eventually a ghoul?

Rain was married, he had a life and beautiful daughter. He and his wife were talking about having another child before Rain was introduced to the cult, they introduced themselves at the "Sermon." They promised Rain that all of their troubles would be swept away if he joined them. His wife urged him to join and he did, it was a good six months before he was randomly selected to "join the higher ups" there he was kidnapped and stripped away of his family.

Dewdrop and Aether were engaged before it all happened, they were in the middle of planning their wedding when the Sermon offered to let them use their church. After a lot of convincing they agreed, they were then kidnapped and separated for weeks at a time before they were forced into the experiment. Even as ghouls they have vague memories of each other, they were so close before Aether was ripped from him again.

Swiss was a college student when it all happened, he was struggling with money and debt when the Sermon took their and swooped in. They offered him money in exchange for service, they brainwashed him into doing tasks for them until they deemed him ready enough to be a ghoul.

Mountain was a florist, like Swiss he struggled a lot with money and debt and was close to losing his shop when they offered to pay off what he needed. He agreed blindly, not thinking about it much before they turned on him and demanded he pay them back for it. With nowhere to turn he offered his service to them, at his weakest moment they used him until he was no more then buried him alive, thus making him a ghoul.

Cirrus and Cumulus were living in a small one bedroom apartment, they had just finished college together and were in search of proper jobs. The Sermon offered them a job working for them and like Mountain, they blindly agreed. The Sermon faked kindness to strip them away piece by piece and stole their breath and their voices.

The Sermon should not be trusted at all, they are dangerous. They will strip you of your voices and your privileges and make you a shell of who you once were, if you come across them you should run and do it fast. They will manipulate you and use you for greed, stay wary.

ELEMENT TRAITS?? OKAY GHOUL EXPERIMENT AU, HOW DO THEIR ELEMENTS AFFECT THEM? LET'S GO BABY(No multi ghouls cause they're a mix of everything)

We're starting off strong with Mountain cause he's my favorite, he has the ability to grow flowers and plants. In the early stages of his experiment he would spontaneously grow mushrooms all over his body, they were very painful to remove and it would leave scars on his body. As he got older and more accustomed to his new body he was able to grow things on command without straining his body.

Cirrus and Cumulus are the same, they're able to steal people's breath. They can also create tornadoes in the palms of their hands, if this is mixed with fire or water it can become bigger and much more powerful. The girls are able to stop someone's breathing or blood flow which can kill them in a matter of minutes if done properly, they're also able to throw things across the room with a draft of air.

Rain has the ability to control anything water related, if he's in the water he can create tidal waves and whirlpools so strong it can drown someone in a matter of minutes. Rain can also make water levitate and shift into what needs, if he controls it properly he can move it around, but Rain isn't that dangerous on land.

Dewdrop is dangerous, he can heat things up and melt practically anything. Dew can create small flames on his hands which he can use against people, his skin will begin to boil if it reaches a certain point and it's best to steer clear of him when it's like that.

Aether can make things levitate alongside being able to manipulate your perception of reality, Aether is considered the most dangerous ghoul. He can make you hallucinate or he can drive you insane, he knows how to use his powers well and the Sermon uses that against him.
