Gavroche: In my defense, I was left unsupervised.
Enjolras: Wasn't Grantaire with you?
Grantaire: In my defense, I was also left unsupervised.
Enjolras: (about Person B): Apparently we’re getting someone new in the group.
Gavroche: Are we stealing them?
Courfeyrac: New or used?
Enjolras: Wonderful responses, both of you.

the hunger games simulator really went there huh

Montparnasse with Gavroche and the momes!
I actually love this scene from the book; it makes Montparnasse seem a little more likable, and his interactions with Gavroche are so sweet!

@themiserablesmonth Day 16 - Intrepid
I was just going to do a simple drawing of Prouvaire but my brain said ART THEFT so ART THEFT I gUESS

@themiserablesmonth Day 18: Adventure

what’s up guess who’s experimenting with ADDING ACTUAL BACKGROUNDS FOR ONCE
[ID: Lineless digital art of Gavroche and the two mômes; Gavroche is standing with one finger up as if he is teaching something, while the younger of the mômes is sitting and the older is standing next to him, both looking in Gavroche’s direction. The three boys are framed by rocky dark brown silhouettes, and look small against a background done in gradually lightening shades of brown, with two buildings and the elephant statue in the distance. The second and third images are close-ups of Gavroche and the mômes. End ID.]

Nous voulons faire la lumière Malgré le masque de la nuit Pour illuminer notre terre Et changer la vie
the boys!! they’re here!! (a few days late for Barricade Day, yes, but here all the same!)
[ID: A digital drawing of all Les Amis and Gavroche, facing forward in a cluster. Enjolras is holding a large red flag that covers one corner of the drawing. Both Feuilly and Gavroche have their fists raised in the air, and all are smiling. End ID.]

Happy Barricade Day!
[ID: A digital drawing in shades of brown of Les Amis de l’ABC, Éponine, Gavroche, and Père Mabeuf standing behind or climbing over the barricade. Mabeuf is holding the flag, and there is a fire burning in the background. The next four images are closeups on different parts of the drawing. End ID.]

Things that happened during Les Mis tonight
-When Grantaire was singing “Is your life just one more lie.” he hit Enjolras’ chest, choked out a small sob then ran away
-Gavroche ran after him hugged him and Grantaire literally just sobbed hugging Gavroche
-Enjolras carried Gavroche’s body to R and hugged him when he started crying
-Gavroche flipped Javert off
-After “Grantaire put the bottle down” R put it down walked to the other side of the stage and stole someone elses drink
Okay, so, yesterday I went to Folketeateret (theatre in Oslo, Norway) and watched Les Mis on stage for the first time, and I have made some notes of my favourite details…
First off, the stage rotated, which made the setting and some of the scenes (like Valjean’s journey before he meets the Bishop) a lot more dynamic
So, Act 1:
The foreman regrets throwing Fantine out, it seems more like he’s giving in to the other workers demands rather than being angry with her for not sleeping with him. As she is thrown out, the other workers attack her (after she tried choking one of them when they got her fired), and when they leave he tries to comfort her, but she pushes him away and he leaves her on stage
Eponine gave Cosette her doll when she left with Valjean
In the first Paris scene, the students are seen walking around in the streets helping the poor, giving out food and money, not just leaflets
Grantaire and Enjolras argues in the scene, and the stand (unnecessarily) very super close, multiple times. They also keep touching/pushing each other in the chest to get their points across
When Gaveoche shit-talks Javert, saying that he’s the one to actually rule the street, they stand face to face one meter apart, “talking” to each other. They both salute each other before they leave
GAV IS ALSO A SUPER TINY SMOL, HOLY SHIT THE ACTOR LOOKS LIKE HE’S 8 OR SMTH!!
All of Patron Minette is there, ¾ are dressed in fancy coats and top hats, one is dressed in rags. That one is Montparnasse, which is hilarious
Lol this got long, the people that sat behind me probably hated me

Grantaire in the showing at Queen’s Theatre
After obsessing over the way Grantaire was played by Hugo Chiarella, which was far different than any other portrayal according to my mom who has seen the show many times before, I’ve come to the conclusion that, whether intentionally or not, every scene that Grantaire was in stripped away another mask he had put up to protect himself.
In “Red and Black,” Grantaire is in full messing around mode. He throws a map at Comferre during the song, makes a lude gesture, and is overall acting like his only purpose is to be a nuisance.
Then, when Enjolras starts his talk about rallying cries, all of the other Amis gather around him except for Grantaire, who sits at a table with his bottle. But, he no longer has his immature grin; that has been wiped of and replaced with a blank and slightly doubtful expression.
During “Do You Hear the People Sing,” his grin returns slightly as Enjolras catches sight of him at their rally and he spreads his arms in a gesture that says ‘well, I’m here, weren’t expecting that were you?’ His grin once again fades, though, as Enjolras turns away after a pause.
We next see how angry Grantaire is after Eponine dies. His attempts at pretending not to care are momentarily halted as he intercepts Enjolras from reaching a crying Marius with a rough shove to the shoulder. Grantaire then wraps an arm around Marius, who he seemed to view as a little brother. He’s clearly angry and tense, not even bothering to hide the fact that he’s mad that they’re putting themselves through this. He’s also mad that the only people he cares about are going off to die for something he believes won’t work.
At the beginning of “Drink With Me,” Grantiare makes a weak attempt at fooling around, though his words about fearing death let on how heartbroken he was over watching his friends go to their deaths. When Enjolras stands in front of him to diffuse the tension Grantaire’s words had created, however, Grantaire’s facade completely crumbles as his voice cracks on the last line of his solo. He then falls into the arms of a rather shocked Enjolras who eventually returns the hug, places a hand against Grantaire’s head, and presses his cheek against Grantaire’s hair. Grantaire’s strained smile never makes a reappearance.
Throughout the rest of the play, Grantaire’s face finally shows just how hopeless he feels, unable to help his friends, to stop them. His despair only continues to grow, no longer hidden by humor, and his attempt at apathy no longer protecting him from feeling the immense loss of watching those he cares about fall. It gets to the point where Marius embraces him after the death of Gavroche, pressing his cheek against that of the man mourning the death of a boy he saw as a little brother. No matter how hard Grantaire tried to protect him, shielding him during part of the first attack and forcing him to leave with the women and fathers, only for the boy to comeback and be killed.
The final blow that breaks Grantaire, of course, is watching Enjolras fall over the side of the barricade. He calls out his name and desperately tries to climb to him, only to be killed.
Grantaire, who started off as a disruptive, immature nuisance, suffered blow after blow, shattering the walls of humor and anger and bitterness that would protect him from heartbreak until he becomes a man who is bitter because of his friends choices to go get killed, but loves them even more, so he watches them die one by one, and deals with heartbreak after heartbreak until he is broken emotionally and then physically as he too gets killed.
I literally can’t stop thinking about an IT and Les Mis crossover. Like the Amis hear about how intolerant Derry is so they show up and try to change things by teaming up with the local outcasts. It starts out serious enough with Mike teaching them about Derry’s past and Ben shows them places to hold a protest, but soon they’re at the quarry and chaos happens. Grantaire and Richie team up to annoy their boyfriends while Stan and Combeferre look on in fond annoyance. Eddy and Enjolras spend a lot of time wondering aloud why they ended up dating these two idiots but when they think no one can hear them they pretty much fangirl over them. Jehan and Ben write poems together whenever Jehan wasn’t too busy cooing over how Richie was a mini Grantaire, while Bev and Eponine smoke and bond over the idiot boys they’ve ended up being friends with. Richie joins them for a bit, and both pretend to be annoyed by him, but Bev’s barely suppressed smiles and Eponine’s abnoxiously ruffling his hair made it known they didn’t mind it. Richie’s jokes had only gotten more annoying throughout the day with Courfeyrac’s encouragement. They all are scolded by Eddie and Joly, whom the others tried to keep away from each other out of fear they would feed off each others’ fears, but instead they end up talking about how difficult it is to be constantly afraid and how they’ve been trying to cope. Bev and Eponine talk about their dads, and Grantaire and Richie also end up having some serious conversations about their childhoods and dealing with homophobia, and Grantaire teaches him some self defense for when Bowers attacks while Enj and Eddie try not to stare. Combeferre and Stan talk about moths and birds and Jehan goes bird watching with them before leaving to make flower crowns with Bev. Gavroche completely corrupts Georgie and the two cause mischief for hours, Courfeyrac giggling right along with them. Mike shows Bahorel and Bossuet around the farm, but Bossuet leaves shortly after being attacked by three chickens. Mike barely controls his laughter enough to help. Bahorel ends up walking around with ten kittens in his arms for the rest of the day. One of the cats ends up in Enjolras’ sweatshirt hood and the only clue to how it got there was a snickering Grantaire, Courfeyrac, and Mike. Bill and Feiully just sit quietly and watch with amusement as the chaos unfolds, and sometimes Enjolras joins them. At one point Feiully leaves to go talk more history with Mike. No one’s really sure why, but Feiully becomes Bev’s favorite, after Eponine, and Richie’s too, after Grantaire. Eponine sat by Bill as well, and he looked absolutely terrified but calmed down as they started talking.
You know that one character? He’s from that one fandom based off of a book that is huge and most people don’t read. He’s a dark haired, depressed guy who’s in love with a small, angry boy and is part of a group of students who are trying to save their home city and annoys the boy he loves just to get attention, especially by calling him nicknames he hates and is super smart and brave even though no one expects him to be. He is the character whom people often make a musician or artist with a sad backstory in their fics and was willing to die just to the love of his life wouldn’t die alone facing the enemy and never got the chance to express his feelings. His name starts with an R and the boy he loves’ name starts with an E. You know him? Surely there’s only one character that fits that description…
My 13 year old twins got nervous guns for their birthday and immediately got into a war with their mother mother and set up little sniper nests in the loft. They quickly ran out of amo, so they called their 6 year old sister and said, "You can be our Gavroche! Go collect our bullets!"
I never thought I would have to yell, "you can't make your sister Gavroche!" To my children, yet here we are.
my baby boy Gavroche SINGING AS HE'S SHOT AT. RAISING HIS ARMS LIKE "LOOK AT ME; I'M NOT SCARED OF YOU"
the brick is destroying me; i will never be ok again
It’s a sad one. Because little Gavroche is “on his way to the wars” and thus, to his inevitable end. He has got his pistol without a trigger, and to obtain it, he had to drop a bunch of flowers. This imagery here is profoundly symbolic and extremely depressing.
Since we last encountered him, a lot of things seem to happen. He worked as an apprentice to a printer for three months! It’s a big deal, nearly the beginning of a carrier! Additionally, he has lost track of his two kids without any hope of ever finding them again. And heartless Hugo proposes several horrifying scenarios of what might have befallen them. Yet, I still hope they will be fine. I know that we are in the universe of Les Misérables, where nearly every story ends with a tragedy, but let’s pretend this one could be different.
Oh, what a lovely chapter! Hugo mercifully takes us back in time once again and starts the 5 June once again. We have already experienced it through Marius, then Gavroche, and now through Bossuet, Joly, and Grantaire! And we also get a chance to learn more about bini! These two “lived together, ate together, slept together. They had everything in common, even Musichetta, to some extent.” They are adorable! Why do we learn about this so late?
And these three are uninterested in attending the funeral, much like Marius. Speaking about Marius… they gossip about him! Grantaire’s assessment of Marius’ love affair is spot on – it’s almost supernatural! “Marius is a fog, and he must have found a vapor… Ecstasies in which they forget to kiss. Pure on earth, but joined in heaven. They are souls possessed of senses. They lie among the stars.” This perfectly captures what is happening between Marius and Cosette.
Oh, god! Grantaire's descent into intoxication to the point of near-death is genuinely distressing. Though, now I will know that wine is white magic [pouring myself a glass of white magic]. So, wine did not suffice for him, and he wouldn’t have minded some stronger substance like opium or hashish, but he didn’t have them on hand! I don’t recall this from my previous reading. And he had to settle for a mixture of brandy, stout, and absinthe. Wow, that’s some black magic indeed.
And we also meet Gavroche’s fellow gamin and friend, Navet. Following Enjolras’ instructions, Navet calls Bossuet to join the company at the funeral. Poor Joly has the flue and is not ready to go out into the rain. Grantaire feels slighted that Enjolras did not send for him: “If he had come for me, I would have followed him. So much the worse for Enjolras! I won’t go to his funeral.” So they all stay and continue to drink.
Then, a barricade comes to them. When Bossuet shouts to Courfeyrac, Hugo ominously remarks that the Rue de la Chanvrerie was “not more than a gunshot long.” That’s it.
