It’s so weird having all of my kintypes be carnivores, having an extremely high prey drive, and being vegetarian. Like, yeah, I wanna eat meat, but only if I know exactly where it’s coming from, every detail of the life of animal it’s harvested from, and how exactly that life was ended. Also, since I’ve been vegetarian for so long (at least 15 years, not exactly sure), my body probably can’t even digest meat.
So I satisfy my urge to hunt by catching small animals - amphibians (mostly toads), insects, arachnids, things like that. I’m careful not to hurt them, and I always let them go.
Also, chewy, dried fruit is a good substitute for meat in terms of texture. I think. I wouldn’t actually know, since I’ve only ever had chicken and salmon in this life, and that was a long time ago, but dried mango is just… yes.
If you see any pictures of toads, on my blog, know that they were carefully captured in a way to cause no harm to them, and released right after I took their picture. I just like chasing and catching them.

Also, yes, I did finally find a drawing that looks just like my dragon kintype. All credit for said drawing goes to Dean Spencer, the person who made it. I don’t know that person; I found this image with a google search. All I know is that I like this art and will be using it as inspiration in the future

Attention, alterhumans!!
…particularly those in the UK!
This is a post to gauge interest in an educational organisation for therians and other alterhumans! It would have a focus on homeschooling and be mostly online, but would also be very open to anyone attending school.
As it stands right now, it would likely encompass an online community (e.g. on Discord), an archive of resources, “after-school clubs” of therian activities, and regular voice and/or text chat sessions to help with studying, talk about alterhumanity, or just be a bunch of nonhumans hanging out! However, if the project became large enough, we could be looking at irl meet-ups – howls, hiking, wilderness walks, workshops and the like.
The organisation would also be able to support our humans with finding tutors and groups for home education purposes, and for those who are in school, supplementary lessons and tutors.
Basically, it’d be a big group of therians, otherkin, nonhumans and anyone under the alterhuman umbrella, for school purposes and also developing the ability to live in human society, without feeling othered or disconnected from their alterhuman identity.

It would be UK-based, so while alterhumans from all over the world can be involved, the focus will be on the education system here, so GCSEs etc.

no, you don’t need to wear your mask/tail to school.
i wish young nonhumans didn’t feel compelled to be ‘out’ at school, especially when it’s a dangerous environment. i keep seeing posts along the lines of “wore my tail/mask to school! people berated/teased/put their hands on me, but it’s ok”.
no, it’s not.
like.. i understand a mask or a tail can be a very validating thing for some people. and i’m not saying NO ONE should wear them at schools. but i just keep watching this mounting trend of young therians insinuating you need some physical accessory or to do quads to be a ‘real’ nonhuman. and then it leads to things like this and it makes me incredibly sad.
i’d known i was alterhuman since late elementary school, actually. it’s a huge part of my life even now, years after graduation. there wasn’t a reason for it to be brought up, so i never did. it was a closely guarded secret to me, but it didn’t feel like a weight i was carrying. i always thought “no one needs to know i’m an animal if it jeopardizes my safety. so, oh well”.
“but, how will people know that i’m an animal?”
they probably will. they probably already do.
i was the designated ‘animal’ person my entire school career despite not ever handling animals in front of anyone. if there were pets, lost wild animals (baby rabbits, birds, lizards), or sometimes even loose livestock that got onto campus, it was always me who had to go tend to them.
everyone wanted me in their group in environmental science. if a project called for animal illustrations, the same thing would happen. it was certainly weird because i was also a ‘weird kid’ and not especially desired to be around outside of that, lol. but i was never harassed for it. it made me feel very validated, actually.
i had fun during gym running and fiercely destroying the opposing team in field hockey. i taught everyone which plants were okay to forage (and we snacked on them when we had to sit on the lower field for practice). every day i was hyperaware of the limbs i had that weren’t quite there. friends noticed my ears twitch and my nose wiggle at certain stimuli. i felt nice walking on two legs. i felt nice because i felt animal and i didn’t have to prove it to anyone.
really like… just do what makes you happy. i admire the bravery it takes to so earnestly wear your identity on your sleeve like that. that’s very impressive. however, there is NO obligation to do anything like that if you understand that there will be a reaction that poses a threat to you.
i want our kids to be safe, too. you don’t have to feel dysphoria over being discreet. sometimes it’s the safest option. and sometimes, that can be really fun, too.
study everything you can about your ‘type. wikipedia and animalia are good resources. ramble about them to anyone who will listen. jokingly refer to yourself as one in friend spaces. wear discreet clothes that remind you of your ‘type. find a nice private place outside where you can run and explore and look at plants and smell the air and feel like yourself. but by no means do you have to prove yourself. you know you.
PC games for canid nonhumans 🐾
As I post a lot about WolfQuest, and my post about an animal simulator game taking off recently, I thought to make a post of all current PC games that involve the main character being a canine.
List below the divider!
1. WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition
Of course I have to mention WolfQuest, even if everyone knows of it already.
You play your life as a wolf in Yellowstone. Hunting, meeting and bonding with a mate, having pups. There’s lots of achievements, collectible items, very extensive customisation, although with some coats and features being DLC, two maps plus two DLC maps, plus four game modes (easy, challenging, accurate). There’s also multiplayer on which you can roleplay or raise pups with a friend! The game is constantly being worked on, with a massive update coming sometime soon, allowing your pups to grow up alongside you and being a part of the pack as juveniles and adults. The game is a massive, massive upgrade from the previous versions, and I cannot recommend it enough.
2. Spirit of the North
A neatly stylised indie game in which you’re a red fox with an ancient fox spirit. You solve puzzles to move forward, getting to know more and more of your surroundings and the civilisation. As you progress, you can unlock more coats! I absolutely love how you can wag your tail as a mechanic.
3. Lost Ember
Another very nicely stylised indie game in which your main form is a wolf, however you can also (and most often have to) switch forms to other animals to progress, until you return back to your form as you wish. You unlock the secrets of the civilisation as you progress, similar to Spirit of the North, figuring out what happened.
4. Endling: Extinction is Forever
You are a mother fox, taking care of your cubs after a disaster, as well as being the last fox standing. It’s not entirely 3D, but has a very interesting moving mechanic. You hunt, provide for your pups, and meet various characters on your way, again figuring out the story.
5. The WILDS
A game that I recently posted about — a classic animal simulator, in which you can be many animals (wolf, fox, raccoon, boar, grizzly bear, raven, eagle, moose, red deer, and possibly more that I’ve forgotten). The game is extremely early access and currently no longer being worked on as the developer is moving to a different engine and remaking it there, however it’s still incredibly fun (especially for $5 on Steam) despite the bugs or overlooked typos and kinda bare map, and has a ton of potential whenever the new version will come out.
6. The First Tree
A beautiful game in which you’re once again a red fox, telling a story, this time inside a dream world, trying finding your missing cubs.

This fox waits. Will they ever know that at some point in time, their coat could have been the most saturated crimson hue of all the vulpines in the world? Contingency suggests so, but who are we to judge?

MAMMALIAN
Got on my back paws - got on my hands and knees. Like how animals can stand up as a trick.
ex: yeah, i really wanted that necklace, i had to get on my back legs so she would get it for me.
Showing fang - standing up for yourself/being assertive.
ex: he’s really tough, and he’ll show fang at just about anything.
White eye - going crazy/really scared. Like how animals show the whites of their eyes when very agitated.
ex: haha, i saw how scared you were during that movie, you went all white eye at the end!
Howling at the sun[wolf/werewolf] doing something completely ridiculously/incorrect
Ex: dude did you see how that movie ended? Mc was really howling at the sun
Could hear someone purring[cat, any other purring animal] noticeably becoming relaxed around someone/something
Ex: I saw you with your new plush yesterday, I could really hear you purring
Treetop chaser - (herbivorous) someone who chases unattainable things.
ex: they’re way out of your league, don’t be a treetop chaser
Bellycrawler - someone overly submissive.
ex - you have to stand up for yourself, don’t be a bellycrawler and let them take advantage of you.
Downy - young, referring to the soft fur of young animals.
ex - she shouldn’t be out til midnight, she’s still downy!
Sit on your wag - means the same thing as swallow your smile.
ex - i got accepted into college, but my sister wasn’t, so i had to sit on my wag.
Go for the ruff - do something harmless/gently.
ex - the shirt was really ugly, but i went for the ruff so i didn’t hurt his feelings.
Flea - an insult meaning antikin, or a bigot in general.
ex - oh, you have him in your class? Be careful, he’s a total flea.
AQUATIC
Riptide Rider - (aquatic) someone who lives dangerously.
ex: stay away from her, she’s a riptide rider, you’re bound to get hurt.
Current crazy - someone who just follows other people, same as flock brain
ex: my brother joined the football team, and now he’s all current crazy.
Bottomfeeder - an insult for a low-class being.
ex - the boys at my school are such bottomfeeders, they make all the girls uncomfortable.
Floater - an insult for a superior or snobby person.
ex - ugh, they’re such a floater. They brag about their promotions ALL THE TIME.
Seen the whale fall - someone who is very experienced, now become a word for old among younger aquatics.
ex - my gramps has really seen the whale fall, he’s almost 95!
Play remora - like devil’s advocate, because remoras stick close to sharks.
ex - i don’t wanna play remora about this, but i think he was lying.
AVIAN
Flock brain - (avian) someone who can’t think for themselves.
ex: ugh, she’s only hanging out with them now, she’s being a total flock brain.
A hummer with an eagle - (avian) someone who is clearly out of their depth.
ex: are you sure you can handle advanced classes? No offense, but you’ll be a hummer with the eagles.
Mantling over [smth] - [avian] being possessive, traditionally over food items
Ex : Sarah is really mantling over that burger menu, I tried to take a fry and she almost bit my head off...
All preened up - [avian] well dressed, well groomed, the state of satisfaction and confidence that comes with A Good Look
Ex : Wow, Eric was all preened up this evening. I don't think I've ever saw him take this many selfies.

ex: Did you hear what went down the other day? John was really blowing fire at Derek over that one.
Rattle someone's scales - (draconic) to unsettle or upset someone
ex: Can't stand that guy, he really rattles my scales.
Cloudy day - (reptilian) usually used as a question, if someone is acting tired or unusual. Like how reptiles need the sun to stay warm, if it’s cloudy, they can’t warm up.
ex: woah, cloudy day? You look like you haven’t slept in months.

I want to run around in the dark, cold forest and feel the very faint breeze slightly ruffle my fur. I want to see the morning dew fall from towering trees. I want to listen, and twitch my ears as I pick up the sounds of small creatures lingering nearby. I want to yip, and tap my paws against the ground.
I want to crawl through the bushes on all fours again, and forge for insects and berries.
I want to pounce into a bundle of fresh snow.
I want to be able to be on all fours, and curl up into a ball in my nice, cozy burrow I have taken over, and safely confide in the dark.
I want to be able to chase prey down in the light of dawn after waking up from a nap.
I want to be able to be fox again, and not feel like some creature pretending to be a human in some human suit..
