Regardless of my feelings about the BoS as a whole in the Fallout series, Maximus as a character exceeded all my expectations.
Maximus, honestly, to me, was the most nuanced and best acted character in the series. His situations were fantastical and yet the way he reacted to it all was so grounded. He was like a prestige drama character in a series full of cartoons. Don't get me wrong, I like the cartoons. Fallout leans heavily into parody and it's totally on brand. But Maximus' entire emotional arc was so understated and I really appreciated it.
He isn't a very vocal OR excessively emotive character because he knows being vulnerable hurts him. He shapes himself to that idealized memory of the knight in the armor even as he doesn't seem to really understand or care for the beliefs behind the armor. He's failing his classes as an aspirant. When talking of the BoS beliefs, he throws in a "or whatever". That part of it doesn't matter to him. The armor IS his belief system.
His whole story is about the cycle of violence and toxicity. The bullies who beat him. The abuse he endures. He wants power so that he can escape it but once he gets that chance he's doomed to perpetuate it, because that power is coming from the system. It's tainted. Deep down he doesn't want revenge, he doesn't even want power for power's sake, he wants safety. And he wants to be the hero from his memory, he wants the strength to save himself from this cycle.
And yet, he just keeps making he wrong choices. Over and over and over. He can't get out of it.
And then Lucy throws him a lifeline. And it takes someone from outside of the cycle to break through. And then he makes the choice to do the right thing even though it means making himself weaker, making himself less safe. He chooses to do the right thing for the first time in the show. And it means finally letting go of his dream, the armor.
And he sees a light at the end of the tunnel. He thinks his reward is going to be Vault 33, he's going to be safe and happy with someone who cares about him and makes him feel like a real, good person.
And by the end of the series, he's trapped in the cycle again.
There is just something so delicious about someone getting everything they wanted at the start and being miserable about it. There's something so REAL about wanting to be something but every instinct makes you sabotage yourself every step of the way.
And the thing is, he had all of these little moments of genuineness, selfishness, pettiness, virtue, I genuinely didn't know what he was going to do for most of the show. I thought he might turn on Lucy at some point. I honestly, truly thought he had sabotaged Dane even though Dane was his only friend. He is so morally hard to pin down because he's so full of life's little hypocrisies. His ideals and his feelings are in conflict so much and he doesn't have to look anguished for you to understand that. You just see it in his resigned stares, in his hesitance and his ultimate actions.
I just... I really loved Maximus. Bravo to Aaron Moten.

I wanna see Cooper having soft moments in the next season. Moments where he really lets his guard down and we see glimpses of the man he once was, or at least Lucy sees. Want to see him drop his act for a moment from being the Ghoul to being just Cooper Howard again, and slowly for those moments to happen more and more on their journey. For Lucy to be so shocked and intrigued but also very skeptical, because what if this is an act and if she lets her guard down what will he do? I need to see their trust building and her slowly realizing he was a man once, a full person once.. and deep deep down he still is. A sad and hurting and angry man, who’s had everything taken from him, who has had to become this persona to survive.
I want an odd funny scene of Cooper acting again!! Some one off bit, where something is going down and he needs to be in a performance for some cringe reason or another and he gets to be an actor for real, kinda, again.
I think there could he an interesting moment if we saw him interact with some kids. Ones close to his daughter’s age. Maybe ones younger, and it reminds him of his daughters early days and his edges soften and piece of who he was before show through. Lucy can not fathom how the Ghoul is any good with children as he talks to them and jokes with them, makes them laugh and acts silly (she’s also probably wondering how tf there are children up here and *where are your parents!!??*). She sees this spark in his eye and this smile she’s seen before. From her own father. This is a man who loved being a dad, who had loved his family, loved his daughter. And she thinks about that when they leave the kids and he’s gruff and harsh again. His edged quick to resharpen themselves. But she thinks about how happy he looked.
Some of these feel like they would be really out of character, like HELLA outta character but I think they would be fun :)
OKAY!! I really want to write, I am in a writing mood, I am in a drawing mood, so if anyone’s got ideas, I CRAVE the inspiration!! I NEED TO CREATE!! I want to write Ghoulcy/Vaultghoul garbage😤😤 idk what to do!!!!
If you have any ideas or prompts or ANYTHING I’d love to hear them!! I need to feast!!!

As harsh as it sounds dogs have been "meat" to us far longer than we are willing to admit. Pretty much every "high culture" of the past has had a period of consuming dogs. They were much more than just companions. We just like to glass over that fact because it makes us realize how hypocrytical we currently are with only consuming certain types of animal meat. In times of harshness and starvation our animal companions have been and anways will be meat. No matter how much media tries to convince us it is inhuman to do so and much more noble to starve to death first. When shit gets really serious your dog is on the roast long before you look at another family member as potential food source.
Therefore I don't think it is odd at all that many wastelanders call a dog "dogmeat" just as many times as a dog is called any other name.
Traditionally humans try to avoid naming animals they know they might have to eat in the future. So yes I totally agree dogmeat is not the same dog and Cooper is rather letting on he had to consume dogs before and will likely do so again if he needs to. It is most likely no more uncommon than naming your dog "Diesel" or "Bullet" etc. In the wasteland.
So the fact that the ghoul calls CX404 ‘dogmeat’ almost immediately after meeting him makes me wonder…
What if dogmeat is just a common nickname for dogs in the wasteland? Something similar to calling a dog mutt or something. This would explain the multiple dogmeats better than the existence of an immortal, breed shifting dog that has wondered the wasteland for 100+ years and could be an interesting bit of worldbuilding.
Because why would wastelanders call all dogs ‘dogmeat’? Why would they not give their companion a name? Maybe because they know the wasteland is a harsh and unforgiving place and they may be forced into a situation where they have to eat their canine companion to survive. Maybe they call dogs ‘dogmeat’ to prevent themselves getting attached and always remind themselves of what they may one day have to do…

Can we talk about the fact that so many people on this app would rather ship Lucy with the guy who CUT HER FINGER OFF or HER COUSIN 🤮 rather than shipping her with her canonical black love intrest. Yikes, this happens so often and it’s so concerning.
