DARA RENEE as ULIANA DESCENDENTS: THE RISE OF RED (2024) dir. Jennifer Phang
I've seen kylie Cantrell (red) with red streaks in her natural hair, which I think probably would've helped make it look less overwhelming. Red's already such a bold colour, and they used such a bright shade for like 90% of her outfit. And side note, I would've loved if they'd made red's outfits look like stuff she modified herself: like, those fishnet gloves were tights she cut up, her fingerless gloves used to be "proper" ones, she tore stuff up and sewed patches and symbols and stuff, just to make it look like her mom got her a bunch of "proper" clothes and red rebelled by making them into stuff SHE wanted to wear. It's not all that relevant, but I kept thinking about it while watching the movie. Because the qoh complains about red's clothes in the movie, so there's no way she was the one to get/authorize red to get them, right?

...i hate it
Idk why rise of red is on my mind so much when it hasn't been since I stopped watching it, but anyways--here's how i would slightly modify ror because i feel like writing this. I'll probably take it down tmrw. Anyways:
-The start of the movie pretty much stays the same, but uma's the acting principal until mal and ben come back and find a permanent replacement for fg, not the permanent principal.
-It goes pretty much the same way, but qoh realizes that "taking over a high school" doesn't equate to "a coup," so she takes a bunch of important people hostage instead, i don't write politics so don't come at me. Anyways, red still sentences Cinderella with treason, etc.
-Also minor changes: when red first meets chloe, she's kind of startled by Chloe's bubbliness, but starts to answer nicely--yes, i'm princess red, i mean there's kind of a barrier over wonderland rn, but you know--and then her mom looks back and red quickly does the whole jabberjocky line. Idk I just feel like red would be excited to make new friends away from her mom's influence.
-Also, qoh takes members of uma's crew hostage or something, just to further dissuade her from acting up, at least rn.
-They go back in time, meet bridget and ella, etc. The villains are pretty much the same, but hook doesn't have his hook yet (chloe can be all confused and clarify it for the viewers), and idk why hades would be there. He's a god. I did love the hades x maleficent background moments tho so...that's smth i guess?
-Anyway, they're all making fun of bridget, and ella tells bridget not to care what other people think of her, but it really gets to bridget, which is obvious to the viewer; and then people, not even the villains, just a few normal "good guys," start trying to get chloe and red to ditch bridget and ella. Obviously they refuse, but bridget's embarrassed and has a terrible idea.
-She starts to tell ella about it, and red and chloe cause like plot, and ella and red are just like "be careful, watch your words, do you want someone with you?" and chloe's like, "girl wtf you are NOT supposed to do that and it's for a reason." And then she and ella have their "get your hands dirty" scene or something like it way earlier in the movie.
-But bridget sneakily follows the villains to the black lagoon, where we meet uliana's big sister ursula, who's chilling there to talk to her sister. And bridget makes a deal with ursula that every cupcake she makes will make whoever eats it like her and want to be her friend, but in exchange, bridget will have to give up her love of baking. She struggles with it, but uliana says something that reminds bridget of the incident and agrees.
-Red and chloe track down ella and stuff, and chloe breaks the vase, as it happens in the film, and ella gets pissed, which is understandable. And then ella gets grounded.
-When bridget goes back to school, she makes cupcakes and hands them out again, and now everyone loves her and wants to be her friend, and everything's happy! But when red and chloe tell her ella's been grounded, bridget's kind of distant and doesn't seem all that interested--too wrapped up in her new friends and the popularity she's never experienced in her life. But now she's desperate for it not to end, but she also hates baking now. So, you know, not all THAT happy.
-Red tells Chloe they should sneak ella out of her house to go to castlecoming, and chloe's obviously not big on rule-breaking, but she's warming up to minor infractions, especially now that bridget's acting weird--they don't know about her deal with ursula, so they both think chloe's protests pushed her into acting like that, and chloe'll also be established as not having been popular growing up, so she doesn't want to alienate her new friends.
-So they have their red-blue friend(ship) development, and break ella out of her house, and manage to run into fairy godmother (who's a recent graduate in this version, not a current student). She's still been struggling with her magic, but manages ella's look, with the same caveat. Ella stops by the dorm to get Bridget, but Bridget's left a note saying she's getting ready with a bunch of her new friends. Oh, and red and chloe also get makeovers, cause i want outfit variations!
-Everyone's chilling, but ella's feeling kind of left out because bridget's with her new friends; charming notices her and dances with her, and she starts to realize he's not really stuck-up and he's actually pretty nice. In keeping with the fairytale, he doesn't recognize her and is kind of sad because he thinks ella isn't there, and thinks this is, like, a new kid or someone's cousin idk and idc. Anyways, red and chloe are celebrating; everything's great.
-Until one of uliana's gang eats one of bridget's magic cupcakes, wants to become her friend, and she gets pissed because she doesn't want her crew deviating from her. So she starts talking about the deal bridget struck with ursula, which never specified that people would want to REMAIN bridget's friends after the initial cupcake, and a bunch of them start laughing at her.
-Bridget is obviously humiliated, and ella tries to get to her, but uliana or her crew attack her, charming tries to defend her; the clock strikes midnight, ella decides to leave and meet up with bridget in the dorms later when she's not being fucking attacked, she drops her shoe, etc. Bridget only saw ella with charming, though, and thinks ella abandoned her, so she doesn't go back to their dorm. Red and Chloe look for bridget but don't find her, and red mentions breaking into merlin's office to see if he has, like, a crystal ball or something to find her location.
-Chloe protests again, because following the rules earlier would have saved everyone so much trouble and pain; but red argues that bridget could be in danger, and they can't waste time looking in places she's not.
"get your hands dirty" reprise because i like that song okay sue me.
-And ofc chloe eventually agrees to go through with it.
-Meanwhile, bridget's at the black lagoon, trying to strike another deal with ursula.
-In this new deal, nobody would ever be able to harm bridget again, but in exchange ursula demands her softness of heart or whatever. And bridget hesitates, and goes to take a walk to think about it, replaying the years of bullying in her head.
-Red and Chloe break into the office and find a crystal ball, and use it to find bridget at the black lagoon; they almost get caught by merlin, but they escape, although in the scrying ball's reflection you can still see bridget talking to ursula.
-Red and Chloe find bridget heading back into the grotto and hurry to try and talk her out of the deal, telling her that ella tried to help her, that they like her, that if people need to be spelled to want to be her friends they're idiots, and they just met her and they like her, so why shouldn't anyone else?
-And bridget goes back to the dorms, but there's something unfinished/ominous about the way it all plays out; even red and chloe mention something like, "well, that was anticlimactic." But they go home, everyone's alive and happy and loves each other!
-Except the qoh and ella aren't necessarily friends; they're just also not enemies. They talk to each other very formally: "queen bridget" and "queen cinderella," almost on the cold side. But both red and chloe are too happy to really notice, except very briefly in passing.
-Back in wonderland, maddox hatter is very aware that something's gone wrong.
It's like 1 am and i only watched the movie once, so if you're going to criticize me be nice about it.
OMG THIS MOVIE WAS THE BEST!!! THE ENDING WAS SO ADORABLE AND AWESOME

OMG everyone was awesome, the songs were so fun and it really did the Descendants films right. Plus they respected Cameron Boyce and it was just so heartfelt.
But Chloe had to be my favorite! As well as Bridget, they were such sweethearts & I loved how everything worked out in the end!

Hello everyone! šš½ So recently Iāve been on a big Descendants hyper fixation after the Rise of Red movie! ā¤ļøš©µ It was just so fun & it made me wanna rewatch the other films!

I think my drawing inspiration is coming back too, because recently nothing has come to mind, but hopefully this sparks something! Thank you & enjoy guys! ššā„ļøš°ļøš¦
iām back so letās talk a little bit about something ive never seen anyone else mention: redās nose piercing. :3

when i first noticed that red had her nose pierced, i assumed that it was just something that was already on kylieās face. but as i got a little more into the making of rise of red, i realised that kylie actually doesnāt have her nose pierced. iāll be honest, it kinda pissed me off because it told me that redās nose piercing was a deliberate choice on the part of the character/costume designers and i hated that it was justā¦so boring. it just made me wonder why they didnāt do something way cooler with the jewelry. from that perspective, her gold hoop doesnāt really go with her colour palette and, frankly, itās just kinda boring.
and then i thought about it from the context in which red as a character exists. her mom, the queen of hearts, is insanely controlling, to the point where red is unable to eat what she wants. because of this, she takes every chance she gets to show defiance. it makes sense to assume that each and every part of her design, in some way, reflects her rebellious nature- even down to her nose being pierced. in that case, iām impressed with the fact that a design element so small can generate so many questions about the character and their environment.
likeā¦when did red get her nose pierced? how did the queen of hearts react? who did it? did anybody else know? why the gold hoop? there are so many questions i have that will probably never be answered but are very, very fun to speculate about.
now, letās talk about the gold hoop itself. my biggest complaint, from an aesthetic standpoint, is that the gold hoop justā¦doesnāt really fit red or her aesthetic. she wears exclusively black jewelry and the only other hint of gold in her design is her belt buckle. i think the biggest possibility is that the gold hoop is subtle. well, as subtle as a nose piercing could be. it blends in well enough that her mom doesnāt bother to make a fuss about it. if red had anything else, anything that stood out more than that gold hoop, sheād risk bearing the brunt of her motherās punishment.
the act of red piercing her nose in and of itself was a physical manifestation of her disloyalty to her motherās tyranny. intentional or not, in the queenās future vision via the looking glass, red is notably missing that gold hoop sheās never seen without.

what that says about the looking glass, in my opinion, is that itās not an objective tool. rather, itās more of a gadget that shows the viewer the future they have in mind- but thatās not really the point iām trying to make here.
my point is that redās nose piercing is a physical representation of her rebellious nature and her closeness in ideology to her mother. sheās never seen onscreen without it unless itās in the future scenario where sheās become a dictator alongside her. honestly, whether intentional or not, itās a beautiful piece of character design- one that i bet you probably wouldnāt expect from a disney channel movie of all things.
hello descendants tumblr . today i bring you my favourite chloe headcanon :3
- after chloe met red and they time travelled together, chloe begged her parents to let her get her nose pierced so that sheād match red and could surprise her with it the next time theyād see each other!
- she has a big fear of needles- itās, like, one of her only fears. because of that, this was a really big thing for her. she wanted to show red that she wasnāt alone.
her new look! :3

I love descendants good lord.........especially when joshua robert colley shows up....oughhgg he's so pretty and for what....

See you again (chapter 1)
Dedicated to Cameron Boyce. Eternal gratitude for the wonderful roles.

"Jane? Jane! Can you hear me at all?"
The girl stopped abruptly, clutching the tablet to her chest. Uma looked unhappy. Did she forget to do something?.. In response to the confused expression on her face, Uma exhaled loudly, and her gaze softened. Although she didn't know her as intimately as Mal or Ben, they had had an indirect encounter in the past.
"You know, I already miss the last Jane," Uma continued, grinning. "The one who wasn't afraid to disrupt my engagement to Ben at the Cotillion."
"I did it for them," Jane said, shrugging her shoulder. "If my mother taught me anything, it's to distinguish between true love."
Although the girl regretted to this day that she hadn't been persuaded to show her magic since childhood ā as all fairies were trained ā lately even verbal spells using a wand turned out badly. The internal flow of energy was constantly dissipating, slipping away from under the very tips of her fingers. Only one person could help. He would have smiled now, put his arm around her shoulders and just by his presence gave her the opportunity to concentrate. Jane couldn't be sure if that love was true. In fairy tales, fairies were given the role of a wise mentor, guiding royalty or ordinary people on the right path. That's how her mom brought Cinderella and Prince Charming together at that wonderful ball. But already there were doubts: the eldest son, Chad, was distinguished by an unbearable character, brought up in too much love. Even then, the girl saw his efforts only to take advantage of Evie, but didn't dare to say so. And the daughter of the Evil Queen wouldn't have believed that her fate was the son of an ordinary dwarf, deprived of all titles. She wished Chad would also realize the wrongness of his behavior and take an example from his younger sister. With Lonnie and Jay, everything was more than obvious: both stood up for justice and were in no way inferior to each other.
But there were problems with the son of the King Beast and Queen Belle. He, like Audrey, is a little older than her, so they were engaged long before she learned to see the difference. Audrey really had feelings, partly caused by communication since childhood, partly dictated by family pressure. Everything remained too ambiguous for Ben. But the appearance of Maleficent's daughter opened her eyes. By nature, leaders who have a lot of power hidden inside. Only if Ben grew up in a pretty happy family... Fear of the villains' children clouded her mind, which made Jane not immediately understand what Mal was trying to achieve. There was only the faint sympathy that had passed between them at their first meeting. To some extent, her and Mal's goals collided. Without the love cookie, these feelings took an even longer amount of time to unfold. Ben mentioned the very existence of a love spell in conversation with her, but at first the girl didn't understand why he didn't interfere. Later, when they were returning from their first date, it became noticeable that the water of the Enchanted Lake not only removed the consequences. No, now the prince's feelings were felt even more vividly. Mal, on the other hand, was clearly distraught. Perhaps Jane herself had made it worse by trying to side with Audrey. When Ben suggested that she organize a Cotillion, Jane agreed, trying to atone for her guilt. It was all exhausting, of course, but the feeling of usefulness turned out to be pleasant. While she was running errands ā including the creation of stained glass windows ā she managed to once again make sure that Ben and Mal were meant for each other. With what trepidation he clarified everything to the smallest detail. The appearance of Uma, who was still a villainess from the Isle of the Lost, knocked the ground out from under her feet even. They seemed to have feelings, but something about them was confusing. Who would have thought that she decided to repeat the fate of her mother. And after all, she didn't need Ben himself: Ursula's daughter only wanted to hurt the former villain.
"How are you and Carlos?" The name of a once-loved one caused a nagging pain in her heart, but Jane found the strength to shake her head. "Come on, it can't be that you're not true lovers."
Carlos. Cruella's son. This villainess might not have magical powers, but bullying dogs has never made anyone better. Imagine her surprise when the guy once admitted that he used to be scared to death of these animals, and only getting to know Dude helped overcome this fear. But one thing was clear: they were both in the shadow of their parents. True, her mother loved her sincerely, although she was too protective, and among the vague images from Carlos's childhood it turned out to be impossible to notice at least some kind of manifestation of love. However, his fate wasn't known, and Jane decided that not everyone should find happiness in love. With all this preparation for the ball, the girl was running so fast that she didn't pay attention to the slowly emerging feelings of the guy who was constantly trying to talk to her. She couldn't see the full picture anyway ā the fairies were worried about someone else's well-being. It was only when Carlos finally decided to discuss everything here and now that such a warm and brave love came over her in waves. His brown eyes sparkled with happiness, and a wide smile shone on his freckled, tanned face. His embrace seemed to be the most comfortable place in the whole world. At first she was kind of scared: mom hadn't said anything about fairies being happy with someone.
However, it was true.
"Fairies don't use their abilities to their advantage," Jane replied, glancing at the playground where Carlos had once met Chewie.
With an initially thin build, the guy ran away fast enough, and the girl was definitely afraid to think about the reasons for the appearance of such a skill. Over time, she couldn't help but notice that a good lifestyle clearly did him good: his lean body became noticeably stronger, and in his spare time, Carlos began dancing. Secretly, Jane even admired his graceful and smooth movements from the side, but she never admitted it.
"Can't you?" She froze, pushing the memories away.
Really, couldn't she? But it was too late to talk about it anyway.
"We can't."
***
A week later, her birthday came. The first birthday without Carlos. His last gift, a necklace with their names combined, was still hanging around his neck, both pleasing and making him feel even more lonely. So many familiar faces gathered, but there was absolutely no mood to celebrate. After making sure that no one was around, the birthday girl quietly dived into the Enchanted Lake. After swimming a sufficient distance, she exhaled deeply and raised her head to the sky. Not a cloud, only the bright sun shone in the sky. Even it reminded her of him. The girl climbed onto one of the flat stones and shuddered: her wet hair stuck to her bare shoulders, and the blue translucent knee-length dress didn't warm her. A spell flashed in her memory, allowing her to dry out quickly, but the magic failed again.
"I wish you were here again!.." Jane shouted desperately into the void and hugged herself by the shoulders, feeling burning tears rolling down her cheeks. "I can't do it without you, do you hear? You were the sun in my life!"
She covered her face with her hands, clenching her whole body, shaking with sobs.
"And how can you cry on your own birthday?"
It seemed. There's definitely no one here.
As soon as she felt the warmth of someone else's hands gently touching her tear-stained face, she felt like an electric shock.
Impossible. It can't be...
Her hands slowly lowered, gently wiped away the traces of tears with one finger and tucked the wet strands behind her ears.
Only then did Jane dare to look up. The black-and-white hair was slightly disordered as always. The brown eyes, as before, shone with devoted and endless love. The freckles on his tanned face resembled rays of the sun.
"How are you?.." It sounded hoarse.
"You called me, and I came," Carlos replied softly, touching her forehead with his. "I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye properly.
"You fool," she suddenly blurted out. "We should be the ones to apologize to you. We couldn't save you."
"No one could have predicted this." With each word, his hot breath sent goosebumps all over her body.
"If only... If only I could do magic like a real fairy..." The girl barely touched his shoulders, trying to make sure of the reality of what was happening, and pulled him into her arms, completely forgetting about his wet clothes.
Carlos nuzzled her neck, exhaling deeply. Nothing seemed to have changed since he left. It was as if there had never been that distant day when Auradon was overshadowed by terrible news. At first, what was happening looked like an endless nightmare. Emotions were so overwhelming that she had to get used to uncontrollable bursts of destructive magic. Because of this, Jane tried not to go anywhere unnecessarily, even when King Ben himself asked the Fairy Godmother about her well-being. She desperately wanted to wake up and return to the moment when the kids of the villains had just left the Isle of the Lost. To find at least the slightest opportunity to fix everything.
"You are a real fairy," the guy whispered, stroking her hair soothingly. "Who else was able to recognize the spell on Ben? We were all confused then. None of us have ever believed that it is possible to be loved just like that. Not pretending, not trying to please."
"And it's terrible," she muttered dully. "Everyone deserves to be loved... Except for me. Fairies instruct heroes, tell a story, but don't have their own."
"And I'm the son of a dogāhating woman. Do you think Dude knows about this?" He laughed softly, which made Jane freeze in fascination, feeling that she missed his laughter. "We decide our own destiny. Of course, Mal could become as terrible a villain as Maleficent, Evie could find herself a prince, and Jay could continue stealing for his father. But they are all here and happy."
"We were happy with you. If everything is in our hands, why can't you come back?" The girl took a shaky breath, sobbing. "And don't tell me that the best leave early."
Carlos said nothing, hugging her to his chest. The realization that his heart was beating was maddening. How? Isn't this her dream? Reality just can't be that beautiful.
"What happened while I was gone?" Jane wondered fleetingly what that meant.
"Ben and Mal got married. They say that almost the entire population of the states has gathered." She couldn't help but smile, remembering that she had indeed contributed to this. "Evie's business is booming: now she works with Dizzy. Jay and Lonnie want to create a club where anyone can play their favorite sport. And I continue to make sure that everything is in order. And I'm not coping... I'm not okay. This is definitely a dream.
His hands were on his wrists. Jane looked away.
"You're going to disappear, and I'm going to wake up. It's not the first time I've had a dream like this," she said lamely. "Can I at least do one little stupid thing?"
"Which one?" Carlos cocked his head thoughtfully.
"In fairy tales, the story ends after the words about living Happily Ever After." Jane exhaled sharply, gathering her thoughts and raising her head. "The heroes stand side by side against a beautiful sky and... I know that this is probably not the right place at all. I have a tear-stained face, a soaked dress and a terrible mood for a person whose birthday is today. This is all wrong. I still regret that I didn't do it when I had the time."
"Are you talking about the Kiss of True Love?"
"Yes, but I won't have that anyway. So I just..." The girl stopped short, feeling the gentle touch of his warm palms on her cheeks.
Carlos looked at her with a bit of embarrassment, but how deep, charming and tremulous was the look. Jane was well aware of it existence, having read many books, but she never would have thought that one day she would see it in reality. These flickering sparks made it impossible to think about anything else, as if hypnotizing.
"Maybe it's worth fulfilling your dream?"
A light, almost weightless touch to the lips. So soft and soothing, but at the same time incredibly exciting and brave. It was as if time itself had stopped. Despite the wet dress, there was a feeling of heat all over her body. The whole world around them faded into the background. Cold hands hesitantly wrapped around his neck. It was only now that she remembered how unusual her feelings for him were. Enthusiastic in every moment, genuine, bright and somewhat naive. The kind she has always dreamed of.
There was something insanely right about it all. Destined by fate.
See you again (chapter 2)
āāā
And then she woke up, but didnāt see the assembled guests. Surprisingly, there was only her room around.
"What a realistic dream," Jane thought bitterly, looking at the ceiling with detachment.
Carefully putting the blanket aside, the girl slowly stood up, swaying slightly. The feelings from the dream still didn't leave her. For some reason her dress was wet...
Where did she manage to do it?
The phone lying on the nightstand beeped. Today's date appeared on top ā her birthday ā and a message from Carlos.
A message from Carlos.
It can't be.
Trembling fingers unlocked the messenger.
The contact had the very photo she took during the dance competition. Carlos was all beaming with pride in it, because he managed to take first place.
She couldn't concentrate on reading: the letters were jumping before her eyes.
"Good morning. I hope you had only good dreams. Weāre preparing a big joint gift with the guys. Don't be missed without me, I promise to finish as soon as possible."
And two hearts at the end. Black and white. That was always his signature.
Her heart skipped a beat.
No. No, it's impossible.
She had to see for herself.
Clutching the phone in her hand, she glanced at the things in the closet. The mood was more than decisive, so the choice fell on a blue jacket and skirt. Her hair ā by the way, also wet ā was gathered in a high ponytail. The phone went into the jacket pocket.
The only thing Jane forgot to do was to ask Carlos where they were preparing this very gift. Luckily, Dizzy was passing by, thoughtfully examining the two shades of paint on her hand.
"Hello!" the girl called out to her, trying to hide the nervousness in her voice. "Have you seen Evie?"
"Hi," the girl responded, turning around. "I saw her, but Iām not supposed to tell you where exactly."
"Itās really important to me." Saying this casually turned out to be harder than she thought.
"If you donāt tell on me, weāre even," Dizzy answered without thinking twice and giggled, whispering: "Evie mentioned that Carlos and Jay were going to the sportground."
"Thank you!" Jane, overcome with emotion, hugged her unexpected assistant and went in the direction indicated.
It was hard to believe that everything had really become like before. She had seen with her own eyes how Carlos... No, she definitely didnāt want to remember that. In fairy tales, good people always won. With the help of magic, the power of love or friendship. Jane didn't have full-fledged magic, she had almost no friends ā until she became close with the children of villains ā but she loved. Loved for the first time, sincerely and with faith in a happy ending. So why did fate take away the most precious thing? Was it a punishment? But for what? What was her fault? Unwillingness to follow the rules that appeared long before her birth? And now... Would a guy really end up on the field alive and well? Or was this an evil irony over her feelings?
The students hurrying past created the impression that another weekday had begun. The closer she got, the more her hands trembled. Even the sun, shining brightly in the sky, didn't calm her down. It was unknown which emotion dominated: a terrible fear of possible disappointment or stunning joy if... But more on that later.
"Your lord... Ben! Don't you have royal business?" Jay's clearly embarrassed voice reached her.
"First of all, I only have a part of the duties," Ben waved it off. "Secondly, I owe it to her. And to you too."
Jane peeked out from behind the stands, not daring to give away her presence. Jay was holding a large sheet of cardboard, while Ben was coloring it beige. She caught her breath, trying to calm her rapidly beating heart. Carlos was nowhere to be seen. How could this be?.. No, this is...
"And it's not nice to peek," A painfully familiar voice sounded right next to her ear.
The girl was afraid to move. Afraid to find out that she imagined it. Disappointment would hit with all its force.
"But I can't blame you: I myself am terribly eager to show it as soon as possible."
Holding her breath as if before jumping into the water, she slowly turned around. He. It was really he. Alive. Real. Not a dream. With an unchanging smile that warmed the soul. Blinking rapidly from the tears that had welled up in her eyes, Jane sniffled and wrapped her arms around his neck. Carlos was taken aback, but gently pulled the girl towards him by the waist.
"What happened?" he asked worriedly, peering into her face. "Did some plans get ruined? Are you unable to finish your business? We can always help, you know that."
"No, I..." She took a deep breath. "I had a bad dream. It was all real, but much worse. And you... I thought..."
She didn't have the courage to finish the sentence.
"See: everything is fine. You wouldn't believe how many times I dreamed about life on the Isle. How afraid I was to wake up and realize that none of this had ever happened. A better life does exist. Here, in Auradon, with you and the guys."
Jane bit her lip, smiled nervously and nodded briefly. The realization of what was happening still had only just dawned on her.
See you again (chapter 3)
āāā
It's very hard to pretend that nothing happened. After almost a whole year of living in this state, she can't just forget about everything at the click of her fingers. The birthday celebration was a blur: the reality of the world around her was constantly being questioned. For the sake of appearances, she had to have fun with everyone, and the fake smile didn't disappear for a minute while the most contradictory ideas crowded into her head. The decision to go back into business, so that there would be no time and effort left for unnecessary thoughts, seemed right. The morning invariably began in her mother's office: she was ready to take on even what was far from Auradon. One such occasion was the celebration of the tenth anniversary of Chad's younger sister, Chloe. Jane had never been to Cinderellaburg before. The beauty and grandeur of their palace took one's breath away.
"Hello! Aren't you Jane?"
She turned around: in front of her stood a short girl with blue hair braided in two pigtails with yellow bows. Jane had known her older brother since childhood and was surprised when she found out how different the members of this family were from each other.
"I can't believe that my mom's godmother's daughter is going to organize my birthday!" The girl clapped her hands joyfully. "I'm so worried..."
"I am familiar with these experiences." She smiled, but shuddered: the memories of her own holiday were haunting. "The whole day is just yours. All dreams and wishes come true."
"Can you do magic too?"
"I prefer to do it on my own," Jane shook her head thoughtfully. "If you have free time, will you take a little tour?"
Chloe was glowing positively literally every second of their conversation. Perhaps she was even jealous: two years ago, her confidence in the future was exactly the same. But some dreams are destined to remain so. Pushing away the gloomy thoughts, the girl promised herself to focus entirely on ensuring that Chloe wouldn't regret anything.
By lunchtime, all the preparations were completed, while the celebration itself was supposed to begin at noon. Chad, who had arrived shortly before, was surprised that his younger sister was following her like a tail. But what could Jane do? Even their parents laughed about it.
"Look, you're standing like this," the girl taught her when they went out onto an empty territory, "you take the rapier with your right hand. Yes, yes, hold it tight."
Despite the fact that she usually didn't have to be interested in any kind of sports, Chloe explained in the simplest and most understandable words.
"How many guests will there be?" Jane asked, more boldly deflecting another blow.
"I heard mom and dad want to invite someone very cool. He seems to be able to communicate with dragons, just like me."
"Not with dragons, but I understand animals."
Chloe turned around, looking at the guest with admiration. Carlos. Carlos is here too. She was still breathless with love for him, but the incomplete understanding of what had happened burned her more.
"Jane!" He beamed, looking at her. "Your mom said you'd be here, and so did I..."
Realizing that she wasn't ready to talk, the girl looked expressively at the young birthday girl in the hope of help. Chloe blinked in disbelief, then grabbed her by the arm and chattered:
"That's right, I completely forgot, mom wanted to talk to you, it's important!"
And she dragged me towards the palace. There was no time to think about how convincing it was. And all of these weren't good deeds at all, but there was simply no other choice. As soon as the door closed behind them, Chloe crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"And why? Why hide from a boy who is obviously in love with you?"
"It's a long story." Exhaling noisily, she slid down the wall. "I'm just... can't."
"Mom says I understand people well," the girl casually remarked, sitting down next to her. "And I'm even better at keeping other people's secrets."
Jane mentally weighed all the possible consequences and slowly, carefully choosing her words, told about the events that took place without terrible details. After listening to her carefully, Chloe narrowed her eyes:
"Mom had a similar case. Her stepmother stole your mom's wand and changed the story. Dad thought he was dancing with Anastasia." The girl chuckled, tucking her legs under her. "But mom was brave enough to figure it out. And you can do it too."
"But..."
"No buts! Tell me, do you love him?"
"Yes, it's crazy, although I still don't understand at all how these feelings turned out to be mutual..." Jane broke off.
"Have you seen my parents?" Chloe raised her head, looking out at the street where Cinderella and King Charming were chatting with Carlos. "They've been married for so many years and are still terribly in love. Do you know what the secret is? They discuss everything. Go ahead, talk to him! Tell him what you told me. I'm sure he'll understand."
"Today? Am I not here for your birthday?"
"So be it, then tomorrow." Chloe waved her hand.
And she didn't lie: the birthday girl successfully prevented them from being alone, constantly finding new excuses. Perhaps she could make a good actress in the future. At the end of the day, Jane even felt guilty: after telling her mother that she would be here until the evening, she had to turn off the phone. The realization of his mistake arose later, when the Fairy Godmother herself appeared at the celebration. Although the girl used to be very happy. Who wouldn't want relationship support from family? But she is unlikely to be believed now. Cardiac arrest in a dream can't be without a reason. However, no one knew why.
"Honey, is everything okay?"
What could she say? "No, I lived for a year with the idea that the love of my life was dead, and a couple of days ago literally the whole world pretended that it wasn't so?"
"Something wrong?"
Mom approached her: there was nervousness in her movements.
"You're avoiding Carlos."
"No, not at all," Jane waved away, clutching the tablet to her. "It's just that Chloe keeps distracting me. I can't refuse the birthday girl."
"Jane!" A high-pitched voice sounded from behind. "Come on, I'll show you my dragon. Did you know that they can fly in any direction?"
The girl shrugged guiltily as she followed Chloe away. Otherwise, the holiday was very calmly.
I understand why there are so few characters from the previous films in the fourth part of "Descendants". But I'm so curious to know how they handled losing Carlos. Yes, we saw Mal, Evie, and Jay's reactions in the 2021 short, but what about Jane? Fairy Godmother? Ben?
Ben... He was the first one to show kindness to VK. He gave Carlos Dude. And Carlos was always ready to take Mal's side. Ben knew about their sibling's relationship and respected it. For some reason, it seems to me that Mal cried a lot at first. Quietly, alone. And when he saw his wife in such a state, he always hugged her tightly.
The Fairy Godmother was probably terribly sad. She was also one of those who believed in VK, and then Carlos, this boy became friends with her daughter. She was so happy to know that they became a couple. I think sometimes Carlos got more support from her than from his own mother. He could always come over for lunch or something.
Jane... God, I feel so sorry for her. I wanted to smile forever from the way Carlos looked at her. How he valued and respected her. He always tried to be sensitive and careful towards Jane. It's just... incredible happiness. To me, their relationship is more platonic because they're both so cute and awkward. They should have a happily ever after with their veterinary clinic or maybe a shelter for children in need of care. Somehow I can see them all getting together: Ben and Mal, Evie and Doug, Carlos and Jane, Jay and Lonnie. Jarlos would make wonderful parents. But you know without me that this is impossible. Jane couldn't smile like she used to after that loss. Carlos often appeared in her dreams. Asked her not to blame herself for anything. But she couldn't.
Sorry for it.
