Cosplay Costumes - Tumblr Posts
Hey all! So I have a question for cosplayers. I need your recommendations for eyeliners... I have very watery eyes and it messes up my liner all the time and I hate how thick it gets at the end of the day because I redraw it on all day...
Help... I'm despite...
Okay so I want to preface this by saying I know nothing about Destiny, but I love costume analysis (and being helpful!)
So first things first, these images are so goddamn confusing - I have so many questions about how this thing is constructed. After looking at them (and some weird googling) for a while though I think it’s actually the opposite of a habit (aka nun hat).
As you can see in this video (from about 0:45 onwards) - the habit has a piece of fabric tight to the skin, then something stiff to make the boxy shape, THEN a piece of fabric draped across of all of it.
Eris’ headpiece is the opposite - fabric draped around the face/neck, with the boxy piece sitting on top. I made visuals to demonstrate! (Please forgive the quality, I'm using mark-up on my iPhone)

(Colour Key: Layer Closet to Skin, Stiff Piece, Draped Fabric, Cape)
My theory is that there are either one/multiple pieces of fabric draped around Eris' head like a headscarf (blue for sure, yellow maybe) which is then covered by whatever the hell the hat (green) thing is.

Now that being said, I was looking at this (Official™) figurine to try and get a 360 view, and here it seems like the "hat" and the upper draped piece are connected in the back - which might mean it's possible to make the garment as a continuous piece. (Second image included bc the drape is slightly less confusing on the minifig compared to the original images)
Anyway, I know that's a lot of extra info without actually answering your question, so final thoughts;
Cannibalising the pattern for a civil war hat is a really good idea! It'll help guide you to building the structure/shape you're after
If that doesn't work, the actual hat portion seems to be constructed using simple tucks at the front + a trapezoid shape at the back - as long as you reinforce it internally, you'll be sweet :))
Still confused as to how the cape fits (personally), so I hope you're having more luck than me!
Whether you make it as one piece or multiple is ultimately a matter of preference and practicality (construction + wearing the damn thing) - so go with whatever is easiest.
Despite all that, I could not find a name for what kind of "hat" this is. Researching types of head wraps + head scarfs might help you figure out the draped portion, though!
Again, I know nothing about Destiny, but I have a fair bit of experience staring at tiny screencaps of movie costumes from my own sewing adventures :D Best of luck with this project, I hope you can start soon!!
P.S. I'm actually still buzzing with ideas of how to pattern this (I'm * * this close to making mini mock-ups in fabric), but the post was getting super long. So if you wanted to send me a message I'd love to keep chatting about this!
