Auditory Stim - Tumblr Posts
Fun fact: I have a (possible, idk what it is yet) special interest in Owl City and all their music is like that. Literal auditory stim heaven! My fav song is Dear Vienna or Super Honeymoon
Did you listen to Owl City's "Fireflies" for the first time when you were a kid and feel something akin to melancholy stir so deeply in your gut that you almost cried, and a balloon swelled up in your chest, and you wanted to move your body but you didn't know how or why, and it awakened something deep and primal inside you,
And you thought maybe it was flight, that freedom, that exhilaration, and for a time you were obsessed - wishing you could fly, because maybe then you'd finally do whatever it is the music makes you want to do,
And now as an adult you crave good music like sugar, and you savor every hit of dopamine you get, wringing every last drop of it from your playlist, the balloon in your chest (longing) still there but never popped,
And your hands are just in your lap but your body is pulsing, desperate to move, desperate to do something - something! You can't listen to music like that and be still - but you still don't understand how you should move, so you stay calm, eyes unfocused, picking at your cuticles, listening to that lead line over and over and over and wishing it would never end,
Wishing that other people could understand what it does to you,
Longing for a feeling you don't know how to achieve,
Wishing you could fly,
Or are you neurotypical?

Hello seattle remix from Ocean Eyes Deluxe is such a good stim song!!! Its SO GOOD
For me, I listen to music. If I can’t put my music on or put my headphones in for extended periods of time, I get so stressed and anxious and I’ll start stimming more physically. I got so overwhelmed that I could not stop hitting my fists/knuckles together to the point that my hands were so sore and swollen I had a hard time using them the next day.
Why Has No One Ever Told Me This?
Why did no one ever tell me that stimming doesn’t only have to be some sort of physical action? Apparently watching favorite movies over and over again can count, too. I’ve never thought about it that way before.
When I’m really upset/stressed, I have two major shows that I reach for: BBC’s Top Gear (Seasons 1-21 only - don’t get me started on the travesty that is the new hosts) and the Nostalgia Critic. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve probably watched most of the episodes of both shows dozens of times, and my family will say things like, “Jay, do you need to watch an episode of Top Gear?” Or “Would putting on an episode of Nostalgia Critic help?” I often refer to them as my “mental comfort food” shows.

THANK YOU TO "SCHOOL SPIRITS" FOR GIVING ME A NEW STIM SONG RAHHHH I FEEL AMAZING
Anyone else stim by walking around and listening to music?
I really like mouthing the words if I’m listening to something that has lyrics. I also like doing conductor hand motions especially if I’m listening to instrumental.
