Day 1 - Love

Day 1 - Love

To me it is something I've felt only for my family. To those around me it's a "can't eat, can't sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, world series"  kind of experience. It's what Shakespeare was obsessed with and the muse of worldly musicians from all walks of life. But to witness the fruits of their labour, be it a song, a movie, a book or a poem love is still a foreign concept in itself. It's as though this concept exists in a television show and I'm the only one in the audience while everyone in my life is an actor, whether they have a starring or supporting role. Either way everyone else is part of the story but myself. All I could do is watch and try to take from the show some aspect of love without really having an internal understanding. It's a definition built up by other experiences with no input of my own.

I know love as in that familial love where you would go to the ends of the earth to lay yourself on the line for your family but that's because they've been there from the beginning. They've provided me with all the aspects of who I am. I can't even begin to imagine how I would be in that situation with another human being who just enters my life at a certain point in time. I can't understand the notion of falling fast for someone; it's an intoxicating notion. But it strikes curiosity in me nonetheless.

Day 2 - Confidence

It's the ability to know what you have, what you don't, what you want and how to get there with the inability to accept anything less. --nmm

Everyone says this and I do believe it's true; confidence is the key to success. What's surprising though is many people, including myself, lack confidence. Confidence is not conceited. Being conceited is over exaggerating one's traits and accomplishments which should be regarded as adequate in their own right. Arrogance is looking in the mirror and ignoring your flaws while fooling oneself with the over emphasis of positive traits. Confidence is seeing the truth in both flaws and fine points and accepting them for what they  are in order to use them to the best of their ability.

Anyway, knowing your abilities and how you can use them to your advantage is important in achieving everything you want. But confidence is also action. It's easy to speak about what you want and one can fantasize about how these dreams can be attained but without action it's a simple daydream, a fantasy, a wish. Confidence allows one to go out into the cold, ruthless, insensitive world with all the self-assurance they need to fight back. Ones with confident have a mindset that says if I go through with this I have nothing to lose and everything to gain but if I let this opportunity pass I have everything to lose; my self respect, my chance at success and my happiness just to be comfortable.  To be unafraid of rejection and ignore the hatred while actually doing what needs to be done is confidence and that is something that I find a lot of people need to adopt. Lack of confidence leads to staying within the box, settling for less and staying comfortable rather than achieving more than expected and gaining happiness through action and the knowledge of who you truly are.

Day 3 - Racism

A concept derivative of hate which has absolutely no benefits. Not only does it kill but it leads to more negative misconceptions such as ethnocentrism which allow the world populace to be divided. It has torn the world apart with ignorance and prejudice. How does one hold so much abhorrence and hostility toward a fellow man simply by the pigmentation of their skin or the location of their birth? Of course nations have made mistake but each and every single country has contributed some degree of greatness which has allowed the world to progress. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to justify placing oneself above another especially when it comes to race, culture, heritage, what have you.

But as time has shown, the farther a nation falls only allows it to reach new heights as it stands up once more. What is so ridiculous is that in this day and age with the amount of progress we have made we are still learning lessons we should have already learned from our past. This cycle of ignorance continues to spin as derogatory remarks are thrown at each other in everyday life like the grenades thrown at our fellow man from the trenches of the opposition - they both kill. Nothing positive ever arises from hate so rather than believe one is of lesser value we should understand the balance between humanity in order to spare lives rather than raise the fatality count of racism.

Day 5 - Haters

They're kinda like sweaters, no? They come in all shapes, sizes, colours and everyone has quite a few. The more you have is a representation of your success because you've been able to acquire a vast amount of wealth in order for you to get them like haters.

Harbouring anger just to spite someone and their success is common in human nature. For quite some time I did believe it was jealousy. It's not necessary a sign of jealousy where this individual wants to become the other or they are envious of the person's success. Haters just feel this need to bring someone down whom they believe are not deserving of what they have earned. When somebody's success is evident some are proud of this person, some look up to this person but haters are just reminded of how far behind they are. When they belittle another person the hater brings themselves up as to create a balance between them and the individual.

The thoughts of these haters don't matter, they are not even below the ground I walk on because the ground holds me up, supports me. It's easy to acquire haters when your success expands far past your circle meaning there are more haters waiting for you when your talent shines beyond your control.

Day 9 - Wants and Needs

Usually these two are complete polar opposites of each other but the process is similar. Both are easily attainable mentally where we can imagine them in our lives. However the difference between what we want and what we need is the fact that wants are generally what we plan for, what we seek and generally what we believe would make our life perfect yet may be poor for us either mentally, physically or both. We focus on the wants and what makes them so easily imagined is that we may come to fantasize about them more often as we picture our ideal lifestyle. It may be a life of fame and fortune or a minutely detailed 10 year plan regarding education and a career.  Not all wants are bad but when it's a want based on superficial terms such as materialistic gain it becomes more of a false sense of fulfillment rather than actual happiness because all you're seeking is something that will provide happiness for only a brief moment. Once you get what you want the high never lasts so you move onto another materialistic want which again only provides satisfaction for a short amount of time. Regardless these wants are part of what we hope for and what we strive to attain and very rarely do they have an affect on our character since we can generally see it coming. When we obtain what we want it becomes almost like an ego boost.

Needs are different insofar as they are what builds our character and shapes us for the better. They are the counterbalance to our wants. Very rarely do we imagine something we need as something favourable. Generally they hinder the process of getting  all that we want especially when the wants have to do with materialistic or superficial gain. A life of fame and fortune needs a strong sense of self as well as self-inflicted limitations in order to stay grounded and not get swept up by the excessive lifestyle. A rigid lifestyle filled with plans and structure may need flexibility in order for someone to maintain a sense of self and happiness in life rather. Focusing on one goal is not bad however, narrowing your mind solely on one aspect may disregard all other possibilities and this may prevent a chance at actually living rather than just existing. When we know we need something it most likely goes against what we want in order to create a balance. At times we don't accept what we need, ignore what is necessary and focus solely on what we want in order to be happy.

Wants are what are looking to achieve whereas needs are what maintains these achievements while making sure they do not become excessive. Acquiring too much of your wants

Day 11 - Global Warming

A great life lesson, isn't it? We never really recognize our mistakes until the consequences have greatly affected us, but by then they are nothing but regrets. Once we try to do something, yes we could decrease the process but we can't really reverse the damage. We just watch as it gets progressively worse and learn to live with it, accommodate it, deal with it. It's amazing how nature can teach us so much of ourselves. Human nature at it's finest.
