I made a Naruto Realization that I must share

i’ve come to realize that when it comes to Naruto that i have a huge issue with the fact that they don’t really put a lot of stock in general ‘traditional’ femininity. like, think about all the female characters in that show that the viewers and even the characters acknowledge as ‘strong female warriors’. can you see the general theme?

none of them are traditionally ‘feminine’ characters.

a lot of the ‘strong’ female characters actually seem to hate the idea of daintiness and things they consider generally feminine in their world, and something about that just doesn’t sit right with me. like,,,what about femininity ISN’T strong??? even a woman who CAN’T shake the earth with a step or a punch is still strong. i found out that that’s why it initially pissed me off when i heard like canonical complaining about the feminine courses in the academy that young aspiring kunoichi had to take. like, yes, it is stupid that they made them focus PURELY on that stuff and not physical strength as well, but to totally hate on all of the lessons like they’re not important NEVER SAT RIGHT WITH ME.

i think that’s why i like ino so much! ino is one of the few females in the show to embrace full traditional femininity and not have to be something akin to a tomboy to be considered strong, and i think that has a lot to do with her clan. as a Yamanaka she never put much stock into pure physical strength as a ninja skill. she mostly focused on her mental strength due to their jutsu types and ties with the intelligence division, and that led to her fully acknowledging that sometimes you don’t have to be a super strong ninja who’s always 4 times physically stronger than your opponent.

sometimes you just have to be 4 times mentally stronger than them.

ino doesn’t stray away from the generally feminine ideals of a kunoichi, she actually fully embraces them and uses them to her full advantage. she likes flowers, and clothing, and hair, and she can probably do a honeypot mission like nobody’s business, not to mention she isn’t afraid of tears like most of the tomboyish female characters in the show. because of this, almost no one probably expects her to be a sakura level threat or something because all of her strength goes towards her mental power, and that miscalculation that most people will make when challenging her is one of her biggest advantages.

and the fact that they (the writers) don’t even seem to do that to her character on purpose is what makes her EVEN BETTER because they’re not going out of their way to make her a ‘super strong (physically) feminist icon’ like sakura or temari, she’s just being her. being traditionally feminine is what she enjoys, and it flows naturally into her life as a kunoichi, and the fact that the writers don’t draw a lot of attention to that and that they don’t ruin it by trying to overuse the trope, makes that part of her character so flawless to me.

but yeah, i just really love ‘traditional femininity’ being used in a strong female character without them later making her a tomboy, because traditional femininity isn’t a bad thing! yeah, it’s ok for a female character to be physically strong and loud and tomboyish, but it’s also ok for them to be dainty and unashamedly feminine and more mentally inclined than physically, because those kinds of characters can be just as strong and deadly as the first kind.
