"Indeed, Why Even Bother, If She Isn't More Than The Question Itself? Was All You Found In Vain? I Do

"Indeed, why even bother, if she isn't more than the question itself? Was all you found in vain? I do not think so, as the flowers are born to wither so is the imaginary machine that's being built only to completely obliterate itself. Fleeting beauty..."

"Who's Lila? -Wheeliam" Aesthetic/moodboard

"Who's Lila? -Wheeliam" aesthetic/moodboard

[sources: x / x / x / x / x ]

Aesthethic/Moodboard made with GIMP using stock images from pexels.com for the character "Wheeliam" of the videogame "Who's Lila?" by Garage Heathen. Both the game and this piece of art make use of 'dithering'.

Additional thoughts beneath the cut:

I feel so sorry for Wheeliam and I also love the imagery and scenery of when the players gets to meet and interact with him, so I decided to make a moodboard for him. Again, part of challenging myself to do so only with stockpics. I quite like it.

Also, random sidenote, but there weren't a lot of sycamore stock pics on pexels; I had kinda hoped for showing a whole tree but alas, I think this still gets the point across. Bonus fun fact, 'sycamore' has apparently been applied to different types of trees (source: wikipedia). Huh.

"Wheeliam" (Who's Lila)

"Wheeliam" (Who's Lila)

[sources: x / x / x Sycamore trees, Arkholme by Ian Taylor]

Digital collage made in GIMP with stock photos from pexels.com and wikimedia commons (license), depicting the character of 'Wheeliam' from the videogame 'Who's Lila?' by Garage Heathen. The collage uses the dither/ditherpunk style the game also uses.

Further thoughts below the cut:

Sometimes, you get hit with inspiration and sometimes, it just straight-up body-slams you. As was the case with this piece and a similar one I made. I was completely ecstatic the whole time I worked on this one, especially once the wheel had taken proper shape and when I had sort of figured out what kind of style/finish I was going for.

It always amazes me how making art makes it possible to create something physical that not just exists in my head, or how it allows me to recreate things I enjoy or that are simply cool concepts.

(The only thing that I am not happy about is the fact that whatever the heck it is tumblr does, it completely de-saturates any dithered pic I try to upload. If anyone ends up encountering the same problem, I suggest adding a 'burn' layer of the image and setting it to a low percent opacity, that seems to help.)

Also, random thought, but doesn't Wheeliam technically fit the 'object head' character trope?

Patterns made in GIMP, 2 of which are PNGs, with a screenshot from the videogame "Who's Lila?" by Garage Heathen.

After making some neocities stamps and such, and noticing that the Who's Lila community has a few blogs and fanpages, I wanted to make some stuff that could be used for blogs and the likes. Coupled with me discovering how to make patterns and being a bit obsessed with making them for a while, I ended up making some for Who's Lila/William.

The 2nd and third ones are pngs that can be overlaid over a background, the first one is a background in and of itself, mildly based on a color palette in the game.

Should I make some for other characters or do ones inspired by different color palettes as well?

(A working title for this post was 'behavioral patterns' btw. My brain thinks it is so clever sometimes.)

"Wheeliam #2" (Who's Lila)

"Wheeliam #2" (Who's Lila)

[sources: x / x Sycamore trees, Arkholme by Ian Taylor]

Digitial collage made in GIMP using its dithering option, with stock images from pexels.com and wikimedia commons (license). Depiction of the character 'Wheeliam' from the videogame 'Who's Lila?' by Garage Heathen.

Further thoughts below the cut:

This, like the first Wheeliam piece I posted, was a result of me getting hit with inspiration big time. For this one, I made the wheel from scratch and then used the perspective tool in GIMP to get the final shape. I also wanted to try and 'hide' the wheel-head behind the coat a bit, as if Wheeliam is looking around the Sycamore forest.

I really like how this came out, especially since multiple parts of this piece were a bit more challenging for me, like the wheel, finding a good background, getting the different parts to work together etc.

(Also, fun fact: The working title for this piece was 'biblically accurate Wheeliam'.)

((Tiny rant: Again, it is super frustrating that when I try to upload dithered pics, tumblr will desaturate them and also crop them (or over-size them) in unexpected ways, meaning I had to go back a dozen times to try and crop/saturate/etc. this piece until it looked good. And yet I still like the original much more. Stuff like this can really dampen the enjoyment of making art imo.))

"Have You Seen This Person?"
"Have You Seen This Person?"

"Have you seen this p̷̟̾ë̵̱́r̵͔̿s̴̡͛o̸̝̍n̸̛̙?"

Made with a screenshot from the game "Who's Lila?" by Garage Heathen. The glitchy text is called "Zalgo Text" and was made with an online generator. The text in the 1st pic is inspired by the "This Man" art project.

This one happened completely on accident; I had copied a crop of William's head in GIMP and it temporarily became available as a brush because of that. So I tried the brush out and ended up with this. Not very refined or fancy, but I love how eerie it looks.

It reminded me of the "This Man" art project (which turned into a meme), which kinda fits with the game, considering how Tanya dreams about Lilith etc. So I made a version that references the meme, which also fits considering the role of memes in Who's Lila, *and* used the opportunity to use some Zalgo text. (The version with the title of the game is the first one I made.)
