trigger warnings: pet whump, anxiety, humiliation, begging, mention of past punishments
"Pick a number. From 1-83."
Len eyed his master warily. 83 seemed like a very specific number, something that could potentially hint at what this was for. He couldn't remember anything Kalysta owned 83 of. Was it the book they were reading? Did it have 83 pages? No, it seemed longer than that.
He tried to gather something from their expression, but it was perfectly blank. Why 83? 83 seemed excessive for a punishment number. If he picked 83, Kalysta couldn't just add that onto the number on the tally counter without killing him. Minutes, maybe? 83 minutes… that was more than an hour. Seconds, then? But why 83?
"Didn't I tell you to pick, pet? What's taking so long? I asked you for a single number, is this really the time you choose to be defiant?"
"No! No, I'm sorry!" Len cried in a panic, the cogs in his head turning way too fast. All those thoughts were racing in his head too quickly for him to pull out any single one and actually comprehend it. It was all a jumbled mess he couldn't see the beginning or the end of. "I don't know, I don't know."
Kalysta fixed him with a disappointed look, and Len wanted to hide. He was useless. Kalysta was going to punish him, degrade him, maybe fucking kill him if he didn't pick a number right now, because that was the order, and he was being defiant.
"25," he blurted out. "I, I choose 25, master. I'm sorry. I d-didn't mean to be disobedient. I'm sorry."
"Alright." They put their book down and stood up, leaving the room and leaving Len completely alone with his anxiety. He could hear shuffling from the kitchen, and he squeezed his eyes shut.
Knives. So many knives in the kitchen. So many other things that could be used to hurt him even worse. Kalysta had hit him over the head with a rolling pin once. It had caused a concussion. They kept their tools in the dining room as well, hammers and nails and screwdrivers… Len couldn't stop crying.
By the time Kalysta entered the living room again, he was curled up on the floor, whimpering and muttering little pleas. He didn't mean to be disobedient. He was just scared, please, he needed Kalysta to understand that there wasn't an ounce of purposeful defiance left in him.
"I need you to pick another number. I don't have any oranges in the house."
Len raised his head, confused. Orange? What orange? What method of torture required oranges? He saw Kalysta standing there with a book, and when he squinted, he could make out the title of it.
83 quick and easy desserts.

Been looking back at my old post and just wanted to temper expectations by informing that this form won`t be in the game after all. I just couldnt get the concept to work and went with something different instead This fight now joins the old duck animation in the hall of memories.

Progress on the game has been slow but steady. Since i started working on the penultimate boss last night, here a sneak peek of it. To be frank the main reason im showing this one is that It's at such an early and unrecognizable state that it barely qualify as a spoiler.
