✦ Kaedehara Kazuha

Your health is more important than anything to Kazuha, even when he's far from you, his home, he'll spend late nights looking up at the stars and wishing you're doing well.

The first time he notices this bad habit of yours is whenever he offers you lunch or a small snack, or how when he asks what you've eaten that day, the only response you can give him is a sheepish smile and a scratch of the neck.

On the rare weeks when he is with you, Kazuha takes it upon himself to cook all of your meals. Not like he wouldn't cook for you outside of this reason, but it gave him more incentive to make his dishes extra delicious. Are you picky about certain foods? Kazuha won't add it. Don't enjoy fish? Don't worry, he'll use more vegetables instead. Oh, you like spicy food? Good thing he picked up some spices from his trip to Sumeru.

When you brush him off and say whatever you're working on is seemingly more important than eating, he'll walk up to you from where you're sitting on your desk, wrap your arms around you, and whisper ever-so sweetly into your ear in a way that makes your knees weak.

"Love, it's not healthy to skip meals. Join me for dinner, please?"

Definitely the type of guy to spoon-feed you. When you do get a taste of the food he made, Kazuha smiles whole-heartedly at the way your eyes light up while your tastebuds soak up the flavours. Kazuha mostly admires you enjoying the food more than actually eating.

If you're not eating because you're too engrossed in your work, Kazuha basically forces you to take a break. He's still soft-spoken about it, but firm with you, offering a massage if the stress is getting to your muscles.

"A clear mind leads to better work ethic, how about some tea, darling?"

Brings you a cup of green tea and snacks every few hours when you're busy!!! It feels so domestic, too, Kazuha bringing his lips to your cheek and offering a few words of encouragement before leaving you be.

He'll give you some quick and easy recipes he learned before he leaves to make sure you don't skip your meals again. Besides, Kazuha would be greatly saddened if you continued this habit, please don't make him worry and eat healthy for both of your sakes...

✦ Shikanoin Heizou

Pretty much noticed it right away. He's a detective, after all, and you're his dear partner, it's only right for him to take note of every little detail about you. His job is very important to him, which means he tries to take care of his well-being to be the best he can during work, which includes sneaking off to get a quick bite to eat whenever he can...

Heizou would rope you into these sneaky outings, somehow able to find you wherever you are and invite you to a quick lunch date. And you know how Heizou's specialty dish description mentions that whoever eats it wants to tell the truth? Yeah, he basically does that to you.

"Hmm, you've been skipping your meals, haven't you? Tsk, I can't have my dear partner be doing that, can I?"

He'll lightly chide you about it in a playful tone, yet you're still confused he managed to get it spot-on. He laughs it off when you point it out, just telling you that you mean a lot to him, so he should keep a close eye on your health. (He's so casual about it, but you can still feel how genuine he's being and it makes your chest feel tight)

Heizou can't really say anything about eating healthy... He eats fried food for almost every lunch break. But he thinks that as long as you're eating something at a reasonable time, he'll be satisfied. Heizou will make it a point to take you out for lunch, and even if you're busy he'll just point out the rumbling of your stomach.

"You're not gonna feel good if you don't eat. No worries, it's my treat--now, let's go, my dear partner!"

He really likes taking you out on picnics during your breaks, bringing a small array of street snacks and relaxing with you under a pink sakura tree while admiring the scenery--which to Heizou, is you.

✦ Cyno

Sadly, Cyno is busy and on most days is unable to see you. However, when he does have the time, the first thing he does is to go and see you. He invites you for lunch, and you make an off-handed comment that you haven't had much to eat that day in a lighthearted tone. However, Cyno seemed much more concerned than amused.

"Have you not been eating properly?"

Is what he asks you, amber eyes narrowed with an unwavering gaze directed at you. The vague answer you give doesn't lower his worries, either--it's almost like he's interrogating you, but you can see the concern written all over his face. When you do tell him the truth, he only silently stares at you before sighing to himself.

"Order whatever you like, it's on me."

Most of the time he'll already be off somewhere dealing with his matra duties, but on your desk, you'll see a snack neatly placed on it with a note beside it...

"I'm coming home earlier than usual, I'll make us dinner. Eat this to tie you over. Love, Cyno"

He can't be there all the time to remind you to eat, so he likes leaving notes around your shared home, or sneaking one in your bag in the early mornings before he leaves. You're very thankful that you live with Cyno, both because you can spend at least a bit more time with him and because if he wasn't there, you'd probably forget to eat more often than not.

Obviously, Cyno will sneak in a joke somehow. His jokes always seem to put a smile on your face, even if it's a pitiful one, and he has a joke that seems almost perfect for this situation... One day Cyno had happened to see you around Port Ormos, and he looked almost giddy when he caught your attention. It's actually quite common for you to run into each other like this, Cyno never failing to send you off with a quick kiss.

He offers you a Candied Ajilenakh Nut, and I think you can see where this is going...

"Here, have a Candied Ajilenakh Nut... and I'll ca-shew later... Ah, no, I don't have to leave right now. Did you not get it? So basically--"

He'll ask you if you've eaten that day, and when you say yes he'll give you the cutest look, Cyno's eyes much more softer with the smallest smile on his face. He'll walk up to you and gently pat your head like you're a pet cat, ruffling up your hair in an act of contentment.

As mentioned, he'll try to cook dinner for you. Cyno doesn't think he's the best cook, and he's only perfected a few dishes. He'll give you something that's both nutritious and filling, and Cyno almost looks nervous when he watches you take the first bite, muscles relaxing once he sees you hum in enjoyment.

Don't try to avoid not eating under Cyno's watch, he doesn't care if you supposedly have work to do, your health is more important than some measly pieces of paper.

"I made you dinner."

"Oh, just save my plate! I'm not that hungry--"

Cue Cyno glaring at you

"I-I'll be at the dinner table..."

Cyno smiling "Good."

✦ Tighnari

You should have already expected to receive a long lecture for your bad habit, nothing misses Tighnari's keen ears and eyes. Sure, you were getting a lot of work done, but Tighnari noticed your energy was more easily drained than usual. When he questions you, his ears point downwards and armed crossed unimpressed when you awkwardly admit you haven't made any time to eat.

Cue a twenty-minute lecture on the importance of a nutritious diet and needing food to keep you energized, and how Tighnari's worried that you've been doing this for a while now without his knowledge.

Doesn't matter what you were doing at that moment, he immediately says you two are taking a lunch break and takes you to a quiet part of the forest with freshly made pita pockets in his hand.

He comes off as a little bit curt, but it's just because he's worried. Tighnari gets out of his lecturing mentality once you bite down on the pita pocket, and even though he still has the urge to delve into another lecture; he stops himself and lets you enjoy your food.

"You lummox, don't just skip meals like that. Here, take half of my pita pocket, I insist!"

The next few weeks is the same question from Tighnari: "Have you eaten yet?" He gives you small candies or nutritious plant-based snacks throughout the day, chiding you on actually eating them instead of just storing them away in a bag.

He almost acts like a worried mother towards you; it's a habit of his, Tighnari always looking out for others and especially you. If he's a bit busy that day, he'll ask Collei to drop off some pita pockets for you. They're both very sweet, Collei cheerily encourages you to eat at least two meals a day.

You can see Tighnari's tail swish slightly when he sees you're a bit more energized, indicating that you actually ate something! You feel a bit bad for Tighnari kind of babying you like this, but he really doesn't mind at all. A part of him actually kind of likes giving you snacks or making food for you, it's like an act of service to show his care for you.

"I'm assuming you're getting kind of tired of eating pita pockets for lunch every day, huh? Don't worry, I made something different today."

✦ Wanderer

"...What do you mean you haven't eaten?"

He acts more annoyed than anything when you tell him, eye twitching when you claim that you just "didn't feel hungry." You're just a fragile human, and humans require food to process into energy--why didn't you want to eat?

His annoyance with you is just a mean mask for his real concern. What if you just stopped eating and slowly started getting weaker? No, he can't let that happen. You may be a fragile human, but to the wanderer, you're his fragile human, and he'll be damned if you decide to skip meals.

He'll make an off-handed and snide remark that "Fine, if you wanna starve so badly then I won't stop you." and he'll curtly tell you that the human body requires too much maintenance--even though he's a mechanical puppet.

Please ignore how mean he may sound, Wanderer just doesn't know how to show his genuine care for you--he abandoned Kunikuzushi many years ago. But, if he's Wanderer now, perhaps it wouldn't hurt to act more outwardly... caring, he guesses.

Once his ears hear the low grumble of your stomach, he narrows his eyes at you. What's even stranger to him is that you still insist that you don't need to eat, humans are so odd. He scoffs, walking off to who knows where.

"Stay there, I'll get some firewood."

Soon enough he comes back, quickly setting up a small fire and preparing ingredients without a word. He doesn't miss the way you're staring at him almost in awe, trying to focus on the pot filled with rice quietly bubbling.

"Why do you look so surprised? ...of course I can cook, why couldn't I?"

Much to your surprise, the ochazuke he presents to you looks extremely appetizing--at least you thought so, maybe it's because you were really hungry. You gingerly took a bite, the light flavours of the green tea complimenting well with the plainness of the rice. When you look up to meet eyes with Wanderer, he's grinning slyly knowing you like the dish.

"Hmm, and you looked so reluctant for me to cook. What, did you think I was gonna poison it or something? Idiot, it's not like I wanna kill you, I would have done that when I still had the gnosis."

"Don't think I'm gonna do this for you every time you forget to eat, I'm not a babysitter."

"...What are you gawking at? Go wash the dishes."

Venti

It'd been a while since Venti had last invited you out to lunch. Whether the reason had been work related or just a need for space you weren't sure. Though today you felt a surge of confidence. A sort of push like every cell in your body was telling you to finally admit your feelings. As though you'd never get the chance again if you didn't. So you bit the bullet.

"Oh hey, you've got something on your cheek." You stop him in his tracks brushing his braid aside and trying not to physically combust at his cute little hm?

He leans in a little closer, just enough for you to press a quick peck against his cheek. His eyes enlarge for just a quick second and you're almost ready to spurt out some apologetic words when he mutters,

"What's on your lips?" His kiss is soft yet fleeting. Cold from his drink and yet sends heat roaring through your body.

His grin is shitty when he pulls back, a chorus of raucous laughter soon falling off his lips. "You should see your face, it's so cute!" He soon devolves into breathy giggles stopping when he realizes you haven't said a word. Or blinked or.. wait were you even breathing?? "Wait! Name, breathe!"

Your head rests against his knee while he summons calming breezes to your side. "Geez, you kissed me first and yet you could barely handle reciprocation." He tsks teasingly.

"I didn't know you would kiss me back!" You pout

"Ugh the point is we're even now." He retorts with a playful roll of his eyes.

"I guess.."

"So, wanna kiss again?"

Your heartbeat slams against your rib cage. One hand sliding up to your chest entangling your shirt in your fist. "I-I need a minute.."

Heizou

You'd been waiting for what had to have been a full month for Heizou to come back from vacati- his private investigation. And the second you'd heard the rumors that he'd been found and was returning. You knew you had to snag him up before you didn't see him again for another couple months.

"Look at this beautiful view." He cycled on as you rested your face in your palms. "I took this picture the moment I set foot on the island. It truly is a sight to behold. This picture doesn't quite do it justice either because during the night time when the water is bathed with glowing moonlight.. ugh it's quite majestic."

"Hei, you've got a little something on your cheek." You tap your own face with the palm of your index finger.

"Oh." He slides a hand across his face, eyebrows creasing as he looks at his fingers.

"No, right-"

You shift your face to the side, brushing long red strands aside quickly taken aback when your lips are snagged. Pressed against his so suddenly that you nearly snap your head back. But he doesn't allow it, keeping you close with a hand on your cheek. His kiss so firm yet gentle. Before you can even get used to his taste however he's leaving you high and dry.

"There?" He finishes

"Wha-" You ask or well try to as he continues to hold your face. His breath fanning the bridge of your nose as he chuckles.

"I believe your next question is, how long have you known?" He remarks "The definitive answer would be: I've always known. I notice your little lip bites when I make corny jokes. I've noticed the way you absolutely must rub your knee against mine whenever we're sitting close, just as we are now. And I've seen the way your eyes flicker to my lips when you think I'm not watching. I assumed you'd just come out and tell me you like me. I mean I have been waiting for so long, my heart was starting to break." His chuckle is far deeper this time. Far more teasing than the first.

"You're such an annoying little tease." You hiss, shakily entangling his shirt in your grip.

"Come now, you must find some enjoyment from it." He pecks your lips. "Otherwise you wouldn't be clinging to me like this."

Aether

The two of you had finally made plans for the first time since he'd left Inazuma. While you'd always felt like the two of you had a not dating but acts as though you are, kind of relationship today you wanted to take it a step further. Before you'd met up he'd shooed Paimon off to the teapot and prepared a basket of food fit for a banquet. He wanted you to try all his new favorites after all.

"Ae, I think you've got something on your cheek."

He blinks in between bites before leaning closer to your hand. Your thumb slides beneath strands of silky blonde hair brushing them aside before pecking his cheek with a quick kiss. His eyes dart towards yours and without warning he pulls a tissue from the basket bringing it up to his cheek with a quick swipe.

"The wind wiped away your kiss, you have to do it again."

"Why can't you just ask for another kiss like a normal person."

"Lips this time please." He retorts puckering up.

Xiao

Not seeing Xiao for a couple weeks was pretty normal usually but you found yourself missing him these past few days. Which soon lead you to the Wangshu Inn kitchen to prepare a bowl of almond tofu for his return. Once you'd finished and tidied up the space you'd used, you headed back to the balcony. The view swept you away for a moment, quickly entranced by the way the landscape could stretch for miles. Almost so taken in that Xiao's entrance nearly caused you to tip over the bowl in your hands.

"You're here." He greeted simply taking the bowl from your grasp.

"Mhm, How was your patrol?"

He simply huffed heading downstairs to grab a spoon. No surprise there, Xiao never had been ready to conversate after a long patrol.

"Oh hey Xiao, what's that on your cheek?"

You could feel the roll of his eyes despite his back being to you. "I've told you not to dote on me." He stops at the bottom of the staircase, halfway facing you.

"Well you should want to get cleaned up right?" You reply curling a handful of strands around his ear.

"I can do that on my own. Just leave I-" A sound you'd never believed Xiao could make escaped the adeptus in front of you. His face soon hung, the bowl of tofu hanging between shaky fingers. You giggle as you watch his cheeks flush with red, briskly rushing to the tips of his ears.

"Xiao.." You mummer close to his ear unsurprised by the faintest shiver being his only reply. "Thank you for all you do for Liyue." You whisper, without another word you head back upstairs to allow Xiao the space and comfort to eat in peace.

Kazuha

When Kazuha came back to Inazuma he always made sure to spend at least a week at your place. A time in which you'd found that Kazuha took up very little space, he'd always kept his area neat and if he was gone the whole day he'd make sure he'd bring you back some goodies.

This time had been no exception: It was only twelve am when he'd arrived home but he quickly insisted that he whip up a, "thank you for letting him stay" dish. You sat a ways away allowing yourself to become swept up by the intoxicating aroma wafting into the living room.

"It should be ready soon, Name."

Suddenly an idea floated into your head. You stood from your seat softly inching up behind Kazuha. Though it soon proved to be worthless as Kazuha's eyes quickly drifted behind him. A small smile brightening his features.

"Oh, have you come to sneak a taste?"

"Actually, you've got a little-" You smooth his hair back and before you can hesitate further you give his cheek a quick peck leaning back to anxiously take in his expression.

"Hm so that's why you've been so distracted tonight?" He places the spoon in the pan before removing it from the fire. He slowly turns back to you deep crimson eyes filled with adoration. "Is it ok if I kiss you too?" He asks

"Sure.." You're not sure how loud you said it but you soon find Kazuha's lips pressed to yours. The only description you could come up with to describe the way his lips felt against yours being airy, light almost feather-like. As though he had some internal fear he could break you with a single touch.

Before long he's leaning away and you can't help your childish huff. "Don't worry, we can continue once you have dinner." He smiles softly.

"I eat all the time. Kiss me."

Tighnari

Today was kind of special. Tighnari wasn't busy with the usual training of forest rangers and he'd finished his patrol early which meant the two of you had time to take a leisurely stroll. Which for Tighnari meant he could point out random flora and facts about them as you walked. While for you it just meant you could bask in his every word while barely keeping pace because he walks surprisingly fast.

"Are you still listening? I was on a roll there and you missed it."

You trot along till you catch up to his side. "Sorry Nari, hasn't anyone ever told you, you walk super fast?"

"No, I don't believe I've heard that until now actually." He retorts with a small lift of his chin.

"Well anyway for your information I actually was listening. You were explaining the temperatures at which Sumeru roses grow the best in." You reply

"Exactly, excellent!" He perks up, smile broadening "I don't think I'll ever understand why you didn't come with me after we graduated. I don't really need to explain this stuff to you the way I would a rookie forest ranger. Plus you're so skilled with medicinal remedies you'd be such a big help to me and Colliel."

"The akademiya begs for you to come back and you try to talk me into becoming a forest ranger someday. Somethings never change."

His chuckle is dry and you soon realize just how close you're standing. Your elbow resting on his shoulder. The tips of his ear twitching as your breath flutters against them.

"Hey Nari, what's on your cheek?" A small hum leaves his throat as he checks his left cheek with two fingers.

"Huh, did I get it?"

"No I mean this cheek." You whisper, his hair is silkier than you'd thought it would be and when you press a kiss to his cheek you make a mental note of his deep shudder. "There it's off now." You giggle immediately pleased at how quickly his entire face blooms pink.

"Wh-what was that for?"

"Consider it my thank you for a lovely afternoon."

It’s a chilly afternoon, and you’re cozied up in Tighnari’s house, listening to the pattering of rain against the roof. It’s a relaxing sound, one you can never seem to get enough of. You look down at Tighnari, who’s currently curled up, napping with his head on your lap. He looks so comfortable and serene, and you can’t help but give him a few head scratches. His ears twitch and he cracks a soft smile, incoherent mumblings spilling from his mouth. You smile right back at him before laying down yourself and dozing off to the sound of the rain.

You were exhausted, tired and sleepy. Your sleep schedule has gone haywire and you barely remember the last time you actually slept on your comfy bed instead of your wooden desk, stacked with papers

Working on papers for the akademiya was fun at first, but slowly became unbearable. Your papers were getting rejected left and right, making you think you should just quit being a student in that horrid school all together.

You knew better than to do that, being a scholar was your dream since you were a little girl. You simply couldn't give up now.

Being focused on forcing your eyes to stay open, and trying hard to not make your handwriting sloppy. You didnt realise a certain fennec fox leaning against the doorframe of your room. He knew you'd been working day and night to submit a paper that was deemed worthy by the akademiya in fact, he saw you from your window earlier that day still reading notes and writing them down.

The fox looked at you from behind, not saying a word not wanting to disturb your state. He softened his gaze and slowly walked towards you

"Sunflower, its time you go sleep. Youve been on your desk since 5 PM, come on lets go" placing his hands gently on your shoulders in fear of startling you.

"Hmmm" was your response, not looking away from your paper and reference documents. You CLEARLY werent listening to him and you CLEARLY wont end up sleeping

Your halfassed response caused ypur boyfriend to frown and scoff. Looks like you've awaken his sassy personality now.

He pushed your chair away fron the desk, making you face him "youre not listening to me dear"

Without letting you spit back a response or give another excuse the man carried you bridal style and made his way to your bed

"Tighnari let me go! My paper isn't finished just let me-"

"No. No means no. Did you not hear me? Youve been working since 5 PM its almost 12 and if I dont stop you now youll probably work till next morning." He cut you off and placed you down on your bed

Him cutting you off made you sigh. You knew he had a point, and you were too tired to fight back anyways.

"Look, I know finishing that paper is top priority to you, but taking care of yourself is more of a top priority love. I dont want you getting sick that will be a big problem"

You stayed silent, looking down at your hands, playing with your finger nails. It was pretty much a habit you did when you didnt know what to say or do. A habit Tighnari is all too familiar with

He kissed you on your forehead and leaned his forehead on yours "please just rest up. Im worried about your health sunflower" his voice was filled with uncertainty that you'd take his advice to heart and boarderline upset that you're exhausted, working day and night in end.

Your eyes widen slightly before you smiled a bit, placing a hand on his cheek, carefully and weakly caressing it. "Alright Nari, you win." You started before pulling away and looking at him still smiling

Your eyes showed evidence of fatigue and yet, a hint of shimmer in your eyes still remain, reassuing Tighnari that the "you" he knew was still there.

He tucked you into bed before sliding in and cuddling with you

You were Beidou's good friend and she invited ypu to celebrate her birthday on the crux for the first time in years.

Kazuha saw you as you first set foot in the crux

The way your skin shimmers in the moonlight

He was falling for you already

He built up the courage to finally talk to you after Beidou introduced him to you

He was very good at keeping the conversation going

You were attracted with his skill on keeping coversations going

After that encounter, he started writing haikus about you, subconciously and conciously

He would show some to you, but never mention it was about you

He will one day build up the courage to confess to you, maybe through his haiku <3

But for now he'll enjou being friends with you while silently hoping you'll love him back

TIGHNARI ▪︎ verdant strider

You were actually his juniour in the akademiya

He was basically your tutor at that point in time, as you kept coming to him to ask for tips, advice or to check your papers before you submitted them

You both didnt hang out much outside the akedemiya as you were ambitious with getting work done and he was out researching different species of plants in the wild

He graduated the darshan soon after and moved back to gandharva ville so you both rarely saw each other as time passes by

Until one day he recieved a message from a rookie forest ranger that someone from the akedemiya came by

He was pissed, thinking it was his old teacher or the grand sage trying to persuade him to come back to the akedemiya

Tighnari clicked his tounge as he placed his pencil down and walked outside mentally prepating himself to hear the same old boring words from those damn scholars

Imagine his surprise when he saw you looking around the view of gandharva ville and its architecht

He was dumbfounded, eyes widen and jaw almost hitting the ground

You finally looked at him and smiled "Tighnari! Its been a while! How have you been?"

He stood there stsring at you wondering to himself "have you always been this pretty?"

Since its been months or maybe years since you both last had a conversation face to face, you obviously changed physically. But he hoped you havent turned into those crazy for knowledge scholars

You looked gorgeous, your smile reaching your eyes, clothes neat and proper, and you smelled like fresh picked sumeru roses. Although you didnt change that much, its the little detailes he notices.

"Tighnari?" He blinked a couple of times and started to get flustered

Didnt realise he was staring at you for so long "sorry! Im just shocked to see you here in gandharva ville. What brings you here (name)?"

You giggled, and gosh he was starting to feel his cheeks burn "whats wrong with just visiting my favourite tutor ever? Its been a while anyways so I wanted to catch up and make up for lost times" you walked closer to him

He rolled his eyes and cleared his throat "For your information missy, I was your only tutor." Making you roll your eyes, ah yes, that oh so familliar sassy personality you missed seeing

One day you met the calvary captain of the knights of favonuis while Tighnari was talking to Albedo

The conversation between the 2 of you shifted from work to animals to his title as the calvary captain

"Most of our horses have been taken in by Grandmaster Varka for his expedition however we still have around a few left here in the city just in case we need them" the captain started, "would you like to see them?"

You hesitated, a part of you didnt want to at all. You were afraid you'd break down and start remembering the past

But a part of you also wanted to, you longed to see another horse again

You longed to appreciate the way they strut, the way their mane flows when they jump, the way they look at you when you were getting ready for another competition together

Although their expression was overall the same, when you have a bond with a horse especially a strong one, their emotions as well as yours felt like they were connected

But youve avoided them like the plague

Regretfully, you said yes anyways

Your heart has won against your mind this time around

After a while the sun was about to go down and everyone was getting ready to call it a day

But realise that the first step to finally be around them comfortably was to be able to accept and heal

You were with Kazuha relaxing together outside enjoying the fresh air

The sun was out bright in Liyue so you both decided to take a stroll before setting out to the sea again on the crux

At some point during your stroll a cat came to you and meowed

You stopped on your feet and looked down to see the cat starting to rub on you affectionatley

You of course bent down to give em some pets

Kazuha realised you werent on his side anymore and looked behind to see you gazing sotfly at the cat while playing with it

He cant help but think you looked cute

He walked towards you and bent down to the same level as you and watched you play with the cat

You broke the silence after a while

"I use to have a cat" still not breaking your gaze away from the cat

His hand wound around your wrist like a bracelet, holding your twitching fingers still as he prodded at the wound on your forearm, frowning at the jagged gash that bled down your flesh. 

Tighnari was gentle, but there was something harsh in the way he smeared a personally engineered disinfectant across the injury, the pads of his fingers calloused. The breeze blew against your sweat dabbled neck, and you shivered. 

“Don’t move, please.” He commanded, “You’ve caused enough harm as it is. How many times do I have to tell you to be more careful?” An exasperation soaked his words in a way that sank guilt into the pits of your stomach. 

“It’s not like I did anything crazy.” You murmured bashfully, training your eyes on the way he rolled out a string of taupe bandages, the contrast striking against his copper skin. Tighnari sighed, looping the fabric around your arm a few times before speaking once more. 

“There’s a reason why it’s a common mistake and a reason why we have rules in place to prevent things like this from happening.” He scolded, ripping the bandage from the roll, tightening the vice grip it had around your limb. “A quick side-trip to an area where rishboland tigers are known to nest — unaccompanied, mind you — may seem unassuming, but if Collei hadn’t managed to find you, you’d no doubt be a carcass by now.” You winced as he tucked the frayed edges of the wrapping in with the rest, dragging his eyes from your hand to your face. You couldn’t bear to meet his gaze. “Must I remind you that you don’t have a vision? Not only that, but you’re still a trainee! The rule is—”

“I know, I know. Trainees can only patrol with an expedition team or a master forest ranger, but Tighnari, you were busy, and—” 

Your explanation held no weight, and you could practically feel the chagrin rolling off of the man in waves. Bearing the brunt of his frustration was almost worse than becoming tiger food (Tighnari would insist that you weren’t going to be food, it would’ve been a territorial attack—), and you wished more than anything that you could push his perpetual look of disdain into that quaint smile he always seemed to wear around you.

A weighted silence humidified the air, and each breath you took seemed to get heavier and heavier before it crushed you, and you finally mumbled an apology, staring holes into his patiently resting hands.

TIGHNARI wishes once in a while, and once in a while only, that his ears weren’t so obvious. 

the way they perk up at your name, twitch at the sign of your arrival and droop ever so slightly at your departure; tighnari feels uncomfortable. the movements are subtle, barely noticeable even by those closest to him, but they occur beyond his control nonetheless. as a researcher, though he disregards akademiya laws left and right, he believes this goes against his own code of conduct.

even if you are an old friend from sumeru akademiya who he had horrifically repressed feelings for. your refusal to leave him alone is like adding crushed harra fruit to a wound. it’s impossible to have peace of mind with you around.

you help him with the marana despite the rangers’ protests, you pick mushrooms for him to discern as sick or healthy, you bring him lotuses even if he never asked you to. to be honest, he’s flattered you remember his fondness of them. he could get used to this, he thinks to himself often on sunny mornings when you greet him grinning ear to ear. but parting is only inevitable in the flow of life. it’s hard to believe you’ll stay forever in sumeru, by his side in gandharva ville.

tighnari hates you especially when he’s sick. you don’t leave his side, stare at him longer than he can handle, and archons, you don’t need to touch his skin to map his temperature. he doesn’t need taking care of—and he’s not pretending to be strong, he just knows everything to make himself better. you don’t have to go out of your way; it’s incredibly stupid and time-consuming. even if the rainstorms worsen his sleep, even if the heat of day gets under his skin; why would he ever ask you to do anything for him? it feels strange to be taken care of.

tighnari gets up from his bed, still reeling from the sound of thunder. he clutches his head, a part of his senses dulling and heightening from the ringing. his ears bring certain curses. 

“whoa there! who told you to get out of bed?”

ah, yes, of course. another curse for his ears had to materialize in front of him. you sit across from him and cross your arms, glaring at him till he sits back down too. it’s good to know the little quirks of your body language haven’t changed since your akademiya days.

“you… you really don’t have to.” he frowns. “this isn’t your job.”

“i know, i know.” you hum, a smile sneaking onto your face. “but it’s time i repaid you for giving me free medicine and… hm, let’s see. lending me your notes, that one time you cured me after i ate a suspicious mushroom and- and letting me tuck my hands into your tail when it was cold, allowing me to pet your ears-”

he coughs loudly, his discontent clear. “you can stop talking once in a while, (name). it’ll benefit everyone around.”

you roll your eyes. “if i didn’t open my big mouth, you would’ve never realized you’re sick. you can thank me now, pighead.”

tighnari makes a face. “you’re also the reason i ingested a poisonous mushroom.”

“that’s unimportant.”

“here,” you say, shuffling through your backpack. “nilotpala lotuses. i was right about your diagnosis!”

“you don’t know that,” he quips. “these lotuses can be used as medicine against a variety of ailments.”

“but these work, don’t they?” your eyes widen, brimming with genuine concern.

“yes.” he responds far too quickly. he can’t help it. “you have to soak them first and then extract the nectar under a presser- not now, (name).”

you sit back down, pouting. “but you need to get better! as fast as you can, tighnari. i don’t like seeing you like this…”

tighnari sighs, eyes closing. “i will. it’s not like one mushroom will have me coughing up blood… at least not this one.”

you bite down your lip and tighnari can’t help but tilt his head to the side, trying to decipher your whole expression.

“tighnari,” you speak up, not looking at him. “we’re friends, right?”

“yes. obviously. do you need official documents stating our friendship?”

tighnari expects a bit of snark from you right back—instead, he is met with your sudden embrace, your breath warming the spot by his neck.

“why did you have to eat the mushroom on my behalf?” you whisper. “i made that bet with the eremites, you know? it was stupid tavern talk.”

it’s not the worst thing you’ve done drunk. however, tighnari steps in each time with no questions asked. he realizes once again how obvious his feelings are and how restrained he is, unable to tell you just so. you’re too dense to understand the language of flowers, so even a gift of a sumeru rose would pass over your head. you’re quite literally the worst person to fall in love with.

tighnari believes time settles everything. then why does he feel so impatient with your actions?

“why did you make that bet, stupid?” he answers, his arms wrapping around you nonetheless. 

“well… you know how i’m saving up?”

there’s a pause. are you hesitating?

“i want to… i want to travel.”

tighnari falls silent. he knows you cannot forever be his partner, journeying through the rainforests and surveying nature’s infinite wonders. you’ve expressed a longing for something else. he cannot deny it.

“do you want to leave?” he asks quietly. “i know being a researcher isn’t rewarding enough and… it’s hard to quantify knowledge. but…”

he trails off. there’s a spark of sorrow in his voice.

"Yes sir! I'll be back in no time at all."

"Just a minute, Y/N." Your smile drops a bit, dreading the next words. You watch as your officer grooms himself a bit, smoothing down a couple stray strands of fur on his ears. His tail sways slowly and stays low to the ground. He manages to catch your gaze with his, his eyes piercing through you. With heightened senses and the instincts of a Forest Watcher, he knew what you were thinking.

"I want you to bring some other rangers along. We've received reports that there has been activity near those withering zones involving Eremites and I don't want you getting in unnecessary trouble," he explains, earning an eye roll and a deep sigh from you.

"I can handle it on my own. I'll make sure to traverse undetected," you argue, and he cocks an eyebrow.

"You've never been out by yourself, Y/N. And this is not the excursion to test that out."

"Please! I can do this myself. Besides, having others may slow the process down and we don't want the withering zone expanding do we?" Tighnari watches you, figuring out that you were going to be a stubborn one today. Deciding that perhaps this will be a good test of your skills and that he could use the extra hands around the village, he lets you go on your own.

"Please be careful and observe your surroundings."

You had kept your promise to Tighnari so far. Enticing fruits and hanging vines from the large trees surrounding you were no match for your pace. You were making great time and according to the markers that Tighnari mentioned, you were close. And you didn't need any extra hands!

Basking in your feeling of self-accomplishment, you hadn't noticed a trap set up by some eremites. In your tunnel-vision pursuit, you stepped on the false floor of leaves and fell through, crumpling upon impact on the cool dirt floor. You ignore the excited chatter from your adversaries above, focusing your energy on maneuvering your body to sit up against the wall.

"Just my fucking luck..." you hiss under your breath, wincing in pain from applying pressure on your right ankle. The pain shoots up your leg and up to your knee-- a clear sign that you weren't moving anytime soon. You look around you, taking notice of your leather bag that has its contents spilling out-- including your vision, which has a cobalt glow. Your polearm, now slightly scuffed, was impaled in the dirt next to your bag.

Biting your tongue to hold back your moans of pain, you lean forward to grab your weapon. Just as you grab the long silver pole, your weight shifts and all that pressure goes to your ankle, causing that similar shooting pain to spread up your leg. You're unable to hold back your yelp and you fall onto your bag, which softens your collapse slightly.

As you lay there, head pressed against the cool leather of your bag and the voices of the eremites can clearly be heard echoing around you, the situation dawned on you. This was your fate-- to die at the bottom of a trap due to your own carelessness. Your days of being a forest ranger, albeit short, were over.

"Y/N! Are you injured?" You hear a voice call out from above-- not one belonging to the emerites you had heard earlier. You try to turn your head and look up the hole, but your angle only lets you get a peek at a figure in the corner of your eyes. Hoping that this was a friend and not foe, you respond.

"Yes! I fell into this hole and now my ankle up to my knee hurts when I apply pressure." You position your arms as if getting ready for a push-up and do exactly that: push up. This time you're able to get a better angle and you realize who your savior is: Tighnari, the Forest Watcher. A wave of relief washes over your body and you let your hands give out so you flop back on the floor.

When you finally get to the infirmary in Gandharva Ville and are set up to be tended to, Tighnari is quick to fall into a lecture about the importance of safety in numbers.

"I told you to come with more than just yourself! Now look at you, out of commission for weeks," he scolds, and his ears are flat against his head. His tail swishes back and forth in agitation, and you feel guilty as you feel the anxious energy radiate from your Chief.

"You're right, Tighnari. I should've listened to you and brought help to that area. Had you not shown up..." you trail off, frowning. You didn't want to think about it. He watches you for a moment, before sighing. He glances around the room, taking note of its emptiness seeing as one of the medics had stepped out to grab some materials. Slow, Tighnari's gloved hands reach out to cup your face, and he gingerly swipes his thumb on your cheek.

"You're lucky I decided to follow a few meters back. Had I not been around to help you or even hear if you needed help..." You smile gingerly at him and reach your hand up to take his hand and move it to your lips, leaving a kiss on his palm.

"Thank you for your concern Tighnari, but I will be okay. I'm a little hard to crack for good." He leans down and gently knocks his head with yours.

Sunlight peeked through the curtains of Tighnari's room, bringing light into the room. Vines unfurled their leaves, inviting warmth and light. As the light spreads throughout the room, it shines over your face. You groan, turning your body so you can bury your face into your lover's chest. Tighnari purrs in response, pulling you closer to his body.

The bliss is short-lived of course. The light continues to spread and soon the forest ranger is unable to ignore the reminder to wake up. He growls under his breath, slowly arching his back in a stretch. His tail unfurls from around your waist, and the lack of warmth makes you whine in dissatisfaction. You open one eye, watching the canine let out a big yawn, revealing his sharp teeth. He smacks his lips and his eyes flutter open, pupils dilating as he takes in the sudden bright light.

"Ack! Ah...'s bright," he mutters to himself, looking down. He smiles and leans down, nuzzling your nose with his. "Good morning."

You smile tiredly and tap his face in acknowledgment.

"Good morning. Are you going on patrol today?" You're hopeful for a day spent being tangled in the sheets and lazing under the sun. The sound of joints popping and sheets being rustled disappoints you as you watch Tighnari slowly sit up.

"Today's another day of scouting for me dear." One look at you and he can see the disappointment painted all over your face. He gently cups your face and leans back down to kiss your temple.

"I always return safe and on time, don't I?"

And it was true-- without fail, for as long as you can remember, he never was gone longer than predicted. If it was a daily patrol, he was back before the moon was high. If he had a trip out to the desert and he said he would be gone for a week, he'd be back seven days later, 168 hours on the dot. It didn't make his departures any less disappointing.

He thumbs your cheek and rises from the bed, revealing his half-naked form. You look away shyly, the marks from your intimate previous night still evident on Tighnari's toned back. You turn your gaze back to him, watching as he moved around the room to prepare for his patrol.

Within the hour, both of you were standing in the doorway, bidding your farewells.

"If anything pops up, I will send a hawk out. Otherwise, I'll see you by moonrise," he promises, and he raises his hand to pat you lovingly. "Don't get into any trouble, or I'll give you that nasty medicine again."

You cringe, the memory of the last time you got needlessly hurt flashing in your mind. Tighnari laughs, pleased to know his message got across. Instinctively, his tail wraps around your leg and you stumble forward a bit. He wraps his arms around you, and you reciprocate.

There you two stand, enjoying each other's warmth. It's routine for you-- it should get easier every time. It should never be long-- after all, he always made it back home. But that doesn't stop the fears from creeping into your head. From the Fatui to the Withering Zones to stray Eremites and treasure hoarders-- anything could surprise him and leave him injured. "I love you," he whispers, and you're pulled out of your worrisome thoughts. Tighnari's the first to pull away, offering you a reassuring smile as he holds your hands in his. You take a deep breath, squeezing his hands.

The loneliness is suffocating and you're brought to your knees. You clasp your hands on your head, curling up within yourself in the center of the front room. You're so swept in your own anxieties and worries that you don't notice the door opening and Tighnari's voice calling for you. Noticing your hunched-over figure, he crouches in front of you, green and brown eyes swirling with worry.

"-/N! Y/N!" You jolt in surprise as your brain recognizes him. Slowly, the tension in your body melts away as you feel a familiar furry mass wrap around you.

"Are you okay? Are you sick?" He questions, ears perked and alert. His gaze wanders around your body, looking for an obvious source of your pain. When he sees you unharmed, he looks back at you, meeting your gaze. Instantly, you latch yourself onto him, nearly sending him toppling back. He sighs in relief and hugs you, holding you flush against him.

"Apologies. I ran into some trouble and met up with Cyno and the traveler. I meant to send a hawk but it slipped my mind. I'm here now, he explains, pressing a kiss on your head. Speaking of his tail, it's the biggest indicator of his mood. If it's still, he's either in a neutral state or very focused. If it's swaying back and forth, he's calm and perhaps happy-- the faster it sways the happier he is. If it drags behind him on the floor like it has no life, he's upset. And if it curls up very tightly he may be a tad excited.

It also naturally seeks you out. If you stand next to him, it automatically wraps itself around your leg, waist, or just all over your body. You're familiar and safe, and it's a way of staying as close and connected to you as possible. It does make for some unfortunate moments when one of you decides to move abruptly, tugging the poor thing hard and lightly spraining it.

He will lecture you if you get in trouble or hurt yourself, but not out of anger-- only frustration and worry. He loves you very dearly and he doesn't want to think of a world without you. Tighnari's lectures are just another way of him expressing his concern for you and your safety. This also means that before you go anywhere, even if it's down the road to a local merchant, he'll make sure you have an emergency pack fully stocked. He can't have you tripping over a root and injuring yourself, and without anything to self-treat, now can he?

The cooler seasons are the best time to cuddle with him-- the fur on his ears and tail get slightly thicker to adjust to the falling temperatures, which makes sleeping curled up against the tail all the more comforting. Its extra warmth makes cool breezes and nightly chills a thing of the past.

While he does have a nickname or two for you, he doesn't call you by it often. Saying your name is loving as it is-- it's your name. It carries the weight of your history and how far you've come-- who you are. To him, that is the most precious thing and every time he says your name, all that information floods his brain as he conjures up the image of you, his lovely partner. During more sappy and romantic moments though, he will throw in a nickname for you here and there.

He may tease and be sarcastic with you, but if you express your discomfort, he'll stop immediately. Tighnari shakes his head, offering you a small smile. Hearing your nickname for him made his chest bloom with warmth and he could feel his tail curl up, mirroring the joy he was feeling.

"That's it this week. Thanks again." You smile and start calculating the price.

"Let me get that total for you and I'll send you off!"

This was Tighnari's weekly routine. He'd travel to Sumeru City weekly for supplies and stop by your shop. You had popped up not too long ago and were much smaller than the other stalls selling medicinal supplies. He had approached yours in curiosity. He was your first customer for the week, and you were practically vomiting up words in an attempt to convince him to buy from you.

He appreciated your honesty and integrity, only selling your supplies just above their raw value. The surprise on your face and tears bubbling in your eyes at the large first order left the fox with a warm feeling in his chest.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Your joy was immeasurable, and you sent him home with extra products he didn't even pay for. Thus began your relationship as merchant and buyer. Instead, he chooses to assuage your fears, assuring you that he's quite careful, which isn't a lie necessarily.

He doesn't know when he started falling for you-- was it when you took time out of your day to visit Gandharva Ville and check on Colleii's recovery? Or the other day you came and visited to help him tend to injured rangers? Maybe it was the way your whole body physically seemed to come alive every time he visited your shop. Sure, you were friendly with all your customers, radiating joy like a ball of sunshine. But he wasn't blind-- he notices the way your eyes light up and how your speech speeds up when talking to him. The attention you gave to him was special. He lived to see it.

The growing fondness was not isolated to just Tighnari-- you would never admit this aloud, but you had also grown fond of the forest ranger. Does he really think he has a chance? Tighnari sneers mentally, and he can feel his tail straighten out in agitation, tugging at his lower back.

"You hang out with them a lot! Help me out Tighnari!" Amir pleads, clasping his hands together. The fox raises an eyebrow, unimpressed by his fellow ranger's desperation. Perhaps, a white lie wouldn't hurt. If it keeps Amir from acting stupid.

"I can't help you," Tighnari answers, and Amir looks up flabbergasted at his superior's denial of his request.

"If you want to court someone, you have to do the work yourself. It won't mean as much if I just tell you what y/n likes. Why not get to know them yourself?" The dog trainer stands there dumbfounded, but he takes Tighnari's words into consideration. There was some merit to it after all. And a person like you deserves to have full efforts made towards romancing you.

"I suppose you're right. Well, tha-" Amir begins, but he's cut off by a bone-chilling glare from Tighnari.

"Besides, I'm already courting y/n. Choose someone else."

Tighnari's S/O is scared of bees

Over your time dating Tighnari, you'd come to learn that he was surprisingly in tune with your feelings; or, more so that he knew the signs that something was wrong. As your time together grew longer, certain things started to add up.

For instance, Tighnari had always wondered why you seemed hesitant to go outside during the hotter, more humid days of the year, particularly during the summer. At first, he just thought that you struggled to endure the heat. But when the excuses and soft letdowns became more common, he figured that it was something more. It disappointed him when you rejected his offers of coming out for the day with him, whether it be to join him on his surveys of the area, or even for a date that he'd planned. If it meant that you'd be out in the forest for longer than an hour or two, you weren't likely to go – especially when it involved a picnic.

Tighnari couldn't bring himself to be annoyed, though. There was obviously some kind of reason for you to be so cautious, and although he wanted to be able to relieve you of your anxiety, he could only do that if you told him the cause of your worrying. However, everytime he tried bringing up the mysterious topic, hoping to get some clarity to your thoughts, you'd gradually become more nervous as you thought about it. Things like biting your nails or scratching certain areas of your skin, the tensing of your body or the facial expressions you'd make; he'd catch onto them all, and when your difficulty to share the problem became obvious, Tighnari let it go.

Thinking about the topic was obviously uncomfortable for you, and while it wasn't causing a major issue with your relationship (maybe a few minor setbacks), he didn't want to put you under too much pressure. Plus, the nervous laugh and appreciative look you'd send his way when he dropped the topic let him know that he was making the right choice. You'd tell him when you were ready; he was sure of it.

Unfortunately, you wouldn't get the chance...

Tighnari runs through the forest, desperate to get to you as fast as possible. You'd screamed, a shrill sound full of terror, and he couldn't get to you fast enough – even though he was there within the minute. But the scene that he was met with wasn't as easy to discern as he'd expected, nor was it as dangerous...

You were standing there, breathing a bit faster than usual, and your eyes wide. But apart from that, nothing was wrong, visually. You were even trying to play it off as a near fall over a stray root and over-reaction. But you'd screamed for a different reason; and Tighnari needed to know what it was.

He'd hush your excuses, insisting on giving you a quick check over as you explained the situation. As sarcastic as he could usually be, Tighnari was far too worried to react in that way in the moment, even going so far as to use his "puppy eyes" against you when you tried to pull away and save face. It was super effective.

Once he understood, he'd click his tongue in annoyance. Of course, he's not annoyed at you; he understands that irrational fears can be... irrational, and that you can't really control what you're scared of. But he is upset that you couldn't trust him with this information outright. It's not like he'd make fun of you, right?

Wrong. Tighnari would absolutely tease you for this once everything is over and done with, even making little jokes at your expense about it. But it would always be light hearted. Tighnari's sass may be a bit much at times, but he'd never make you feel bad or cross the line, even doing a quick check in a minute or two later to make sure he hadn't gone too far.

During the big moment where everything had come to a head, though, Tighnari would automatically turn on his mentor mode: attempting to soothe your fears and trying to come to an understanding with you that bees are more beneficial than they are harmful to people and the environment. In short, Tighnari would try his best to convince you into a calmer mindset when it comes to these creatures.

Of course, he knew that he couldn't just cure you of your phobia by explaining things to you, but he hoped that giving you a more detailed understanding of the bees would be able to open a pathway in which there was a future that you weren't so paranoid in their presence. But even if that didn't happen, he'd always be there to play the hero.

(Tighnari wouldn't admit it, but he secretly likes being able to "save" you from the bees when you get scared. Now that he knows the problem you were having isn't as big a deal as he'd thought, he can appreciate how cute you are when you're scared before swooping in to save the day).
