Today I’ll be sharing things about Chin Siu-ho and talking about his films since I still feel that he is very underrated. Chin Siu-ho was born on January 26th, 1963 and began learning martial arts at the age of 10. According to what I could find, one of his first roles was Ten Tigers of Kwangtung (1979) which featured all of the Venoms. Not long afterwards he appeared in Two Champions of Shaolin (1980). However, his lead role was in Legend of the Fox where he played Hu Fei/Flying Fox. It is by far one of my favorite roles of his. He is mostly recognized for playing in Jet Li movies like Fist of Legend and Tai Chi Master. I would like to note that he is considered a b tier Venom and one of my favorite performances was in Masked Avengers because I loved the personality combinations that Zeng Jun had. The confidence, joking, and sweet tones of his character added something beautiful to the film because of his major attempts to befriend Gao Yao, played by Kuo Chui. His skills with weapons and fighting always blow me away. His movements are beautiful. Chin has appeared in 8 or more films with at least one member of the Venom mob. Some of his well known films are Mr. Vampire and the various titles that go with it. I recently discovered a hidden gem called The Seventh Curse where he is one of the lead characters. It is a bit out there when you first get into it but I was very intrigued and had to keep watching. I would highly recommend checking it out if you like something with horror and fantasy elements. I won’t spoil anything but there are various surprises that I didn’t see coming. It is on Amazon Prime for free in the U.S. if you are interested in checking it out. Next I will bring up Rigor Mortis (2013) which was a lot different from Chin’s normal roles in my opinion. He played a depressed and struggling actor. Although according to an interview with Juno Mak, who directed the film, he said that they had to do various things to get him into that disturbed state but felt terrible about it even though Chin understood. So I believe that is what added to his entirely different persona and was probably hard to deal with or shake off which shows his dedication. I’ll try to wrap this up but I would like to also mention Vampire Cleanup Department where Chin stars with Babyjohn Choi, Richard Ng, Lin Min-Chen, and Lo Meng. It has plenty of action because it features jiangshi, or Chinese hopping vampires, but there are many lighthearted moments. It does have some comedy which I think comes from Lo and Chin in many scenes. Chin’s character is more serious and firm but he is part of the cleanup department that combats vampires. Even from the beginning of the movie, Chin’s character was very badass and you got to see some of his faster skills. I know there is a lot that I didn’t mention so I may make another post but if you made it this far, I hope you enjoyed this post and the edit I made!
