The new episode was something.... The joy and yearning and hurt and love, everything hit right where it was supposed to. I think about the episode and one moment I am so so happy about Jiang Tian loosening up, about Sheng Wang becoming more and more aware of himself, of them together acting the tests together and just the overall joy they have around each other, because of each other.

The next moment I'm wrecked because of Jiang Tian's moment. Because of the hurt and torment he is going through. Of the shame and guilt he feels because of it all. Because of the helplessness it brings that he is constantly trying to win against when it comes to Sheng Wang.

Right after that, I'm terrified. Of what is to come for them. Is Sheng Wang going to be sent away to the new class. Are people going to realise and question them. Are they going to lose each other even before they could be each other's.

I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. But whatever it is, I trust that it will be meaningful. I hope there is a new season irrespective, but even if there isn't, I'm going to love the show for all that it has been.

This scene is sooooo precious to me, every time I watch it I feel the need to hide it away so that they don't get hurt.

I don't say this lightly but The On1y One has wrecked me and changed my brain chemistry in all the ways possible. I'm going to keep coming back to it.

Every 哥 (ge) out of Sheng Wang's mouth this episode was a stab directly to my heart.

When the answers were erased I Screamed.

I think this is one of the top tier gay awakenings. I wish we would have gotten a kiss because this boy was THIRSTY. I'm still waiting for it all.

Especially after everything he pulled in the final episode he for sure is.

Wang is begging for it. A confession, a kiss, a spanking? Idk but the sneaky little brat is so obvious.

He would’ve gone insane if he had to last like Tian did for months.

I don't remember if I had reblogged it or not, I don't even remember exactly what the post was saying but I saw a post where someone was talking about how even if The On1y One doesn't end with a resolution and ends while being angsty they would still be happy because they appreciate the story as a whole. And that is exactly where I am. It is a beautiful story. It was done very well in my opinion. The directing, acting, writing. Everything. Even if they didn't resolve everything they explored everything and made it meaningful and that is important to me. It means so much to me that I was able to experience it the way I did.

I think for me the best part about watching is two parts

. The first within the series itself, is always always the time that Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang spent together. Every episode I was looking forward to their moment together. So the best will always be the day they skipped school and decided they would move into the dorms. There was something so beautiful about it and it meant the world to me.

The second is more the experience itself, of watching something as it goes and recording it on Tumblr and interacting with others based on it. It's something I've started more recently and this was an amazing series for it. It allowed me to interact with so many new people. Put my thoughts out even with hesitation. I loved it.

In terms of the second season, I really really want one. I hope it is a reality and the fruits of it, we can one day enjoy. I would literally sell my soul if it could be a reality. That being said, I don't really expect one. So looking at it as something without a "resolution", I think I'll still be okay with it. I'll have to find fanfiction and read the book and everything to find something to fill the gaps, but I'm ok for all rest of the things. The yearning and heartbreak, as much as I wish we didn't have to go through, I am not opposed to it and am not upset about it. I usually lean towards the yearning angst and this was right up my alley. Are there things I would've changed? Obviously. There always are I think, but there are not so many that I would not recognise the story altogether and that's what makes it significant for me I think.

Oh I loved this last episode. It's the epitome of gay adolescents, it's tension packed with teenage drama.

Have you ever worked with 16/17 years old? Because it is the worst thing ever that happened in your life that your crush moved to another class, it's so hard to articulate yourself because you're unsure and how the hell would you communicate anyway, who does that? Longing glances and mood swings are far better to cope.

I love this show, I love these characters. One of my favourite series from now on for sure.

Jiang Tian didn't even need to be clued in about anything. He knew exactly where the break down came from and saw the gap it created. The punch (felt like a gut punch to me) came from a place of helplessness, guilt, shame and most importantly abandonment issues and hit us just as hard.

Sheng Wang's impulsive decision to purposefully flunk the test in order to get transferred to a different class was painful. However, it was even more painful because Jiang Tian knew the exact reason behind it.

Where Sheng Wang puts on a brave face and lies to his teachers and friends about it, he forgets one fact, i.e., Jiang Tian can read him like a book. He knew something had changed right from that night when Sheng Wang tried to kiss him. He could feel that something was wrong because of all the ways that Sheng Wang tried to avoid him. No wonder Jiang Tian broke down.

Subtlety is not Sheng Wang's strong suit lmao

What if the bracelets are their own mirrors? Like the mirror in the story of the 'Princess and her Husband' that Jiang Tian told in the literary class?

Their bracelets are a symbol of a commitment between them. They are a physical memento of promises made and their loved relationship. They could also be the representation of the red string of fate between them.

It's funny to note that Yue Lao is supposed to be the "Old Man Under the Moon" (The Moon is a symbol Tian and Wang talked a lot in the previous episode). He is also the god of love and marriage. What fate puts together none can tear asunder. Let's hope it's the case for Tian and Wang.

How did Sheng Wang dare to even disappoint Jiang Tian. The audacity of Wang's to just go ahead and screw with his answers, to actively change classrooms was enough to really show us how much he was sinking into how insurmountable his feelings felt like. If I was in his place I would've never dared to cross Jiang Tian.

i really loved how dramatic the boys were about the 'separation' cause being teenager really is just like that, but really the class move is only a symptom of sheng wang's general overcorrecting for his feelings and hurting them both in the process. jiang tian had been sensing the shift in their relationship for days, and when it came to head and became painfully clear what sheng wang was doing, no wonder he broke down

the way this episode got me crying, it was so beautiful yet so bittersweet

also, the whole time I was waiting for someone to snap and then tian kind of did but not in the way I expected and it was actually even more heartbreaking

I've been struggling to put to words what exactly makes me so at peace with the finale, and I don't mean the 'oh I don't want anything else from here' but more so 'even if I dare to dream for something more what I have now is good'. You've said it all sooo beautifully and compellingly.

The On1y One dared to hope for a second season. How else can you explain it's deliberate slow and steady pacing throughout its run? The show made a bold choice not to rush. You certainly won't hear me criticizing that choice. The show was consistently mesmerizing. It gave the environments, the characters, the performances, and the poetry time to breathe, because it's about deep, intelligent thinkers and asks us to reside in their world for a while. Isn't that what drew us in? Watching it often felt like watching wisps of cirrus clouds move across the sky, not for a purpose but just to observe.

As it stands, The On1y One is not a BL but an elegiac queer coming-of-age tale with BL trappings. Many will feel disappointed and cheated by that. The last episode, which would have made for an impressive penultimate episode if the show was aiming for a classic BL structure, gives the audience only a sliver of hope about these boys' queerness and their relationships to one another. It will depend on your taste whether that is satisfying (and, it's okay if it's not to your taste; The On1y One readily admits picky eaters exist).

I definitely hope the show receives a second season. There's a lot to develop, and a strong response from audiences and the directors' public statements suggest we might get one. I know the downsides for audience's experiences when shows are structured with the hope but not the promise of a second season. For me, though, with its thorough investment in the themes of ephemeral pain and beauty, The On1y One is a rare instance where the intangible hope for a future story we can't see lies at the very foundation of the series itself. It chooses to look at the moon instead of the coin.

THE ON1Y ONE (2024). EPISODE TWELVE.

That was the most intensely painful perfectly beautiful yearning of an conclusion I could have possible hoped for. What an excellent way to resolve the build up of tension and sudden smashing realisation for Sheng Wang what he is feeling. And OMG the HEARTBREAK of Tian was so good and so realistic in that he just didn’t know what to do!!!!!! Really enjoy is the foreshadowing in ep 11 of the teacher talking about how his first love almost ruined his grades. And the build up of the storm and the end of summer and the rain and the mint in the glass and just AHHHH!!!!!!

Season 2 is going to sizzle so good and even if it doesn’t happen it will sizzle in mind and I will never forget them <3

Yesyesyes all the yeses to exactly this. It is the fact that it ends hopefully even with all its uncertainty.

I was worried that The On1y One would give us a bad ending, and while I obviously don't think it was happy, I feel it was a hopeful.

We had both Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang looking out the window and seeing LOVE and JOY.

Jiang Tian tying the knot on his bracelet and putting the two strands together signifying a repaired and intertwined bond with Sheng Wang.

Jiang Tian is patient and will wait until Sheng Wang returns to his side.

And Sheng Wang will come to accept his feelings with the bravery of youth.

They're going to work hard to be together again.

Maybe this is just me trying to console myself, but I didn't hate the ending. A bit sad yes, but raging or upset? No.
