" i bought a plant, " ace states, regret evident in his tone alone. sure, he'd kept his dog alive, somehow, for the last five years, but other than that he was pretty disastrous. often times wonders how he's kept himself functioning for this long. " someone said they reduce stress, improve your mood. but i have no idea how to look after a plant, and now the thing i bought to help reduce my stress has inadvertently caused me more stress. " there's a pause, only long enough for him to take a breath. " do you know anything about plants ? anything at all, because if this thing dies on me i'm gonna feel like an absolute failure. and my ego's low enough, it can't take that kinda blow. his expression subtly brightens at her response, glad that someone else is able to see what he's envisioning. yet despite his confident demeanour, there is part of him that can't help but to doubt his ideas. which bothers him greatly considering he was practically forced into the family business. " though, who knows ? it might end up being something completely different. my dad has this remarkable talent for raining on my parade. i don’t think he’s too thrilled when i come up with ideas that outshine his, " he teases, gently nudging into her side. " but let's move onto the fun stuff. if you were moving into a newly built living space, what amenities would you most want to see ? hit me with anything— nothing will sound too crazy. "
hadley’s eyes looked over at it all. she could almost see the vision of his now taking shape, with sleek luxury condos rising from the ground, blending seamlessly with the surrounding cityscape. his enthusiasm was contagious, she felt a flicker of excitement for him. the location did have a certain allure. hadley turned to him, nodding her head at his question. “i can definitely see it,” she said, her voice carrying a mix of genuine admiration and contemplative curiosity. “it’s got great potential. the blend of city convenience with that sense of space could really set it apart. but, of course, the final vision will depend on your dad’s input. still, i think you’re on to something here.”
it should be a relief, really. it's a simple enough answer, should be an easy task. yet his eyes are widening, and suddenly he's even less sure of his ability to properly adult. " oh, this is terrible. i'm doomed. how am i supposed to remember to water a plant when i can't even remember to water myself ? " quickly realizes how that might sound, and he's stumbling over his words as always, correcting it. " not that i don't wash, i do— like regularly. i meant, you know . . . consuming it. my body liquid is made up of pure caffeine. " he takes a moment, tries to rack his brain. " i guess i could set some phone reminders. maybe pick up a one of those ' how to for dummies ' books. do they have one for plants ? "
alyssa couldn’t help but smile at ace’s confession, his frustration both endearing and relatable. she knew how overwhelming even the smallest tasks could feel when someone was already stretched thin. ace’s self-deprecating humor about his lack of plant care experience made her chuckle softly. “ you’re not alone in feeling that way,” she reassured him. “plants can be tricky, especially when you’re not sure what they need. but don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world if things don’t go perfectly.” she shrugged her shoulders at his question. “ yeah, i actually do know a thing or two about plants,” she continued, her tone taking on a more instructional edge. “ let’s start with the basics—light, water, and a bit of love. the biggest thing is ... well, you know, don't forget that it needs water. "
she blinks, once, twice. confused. isn’t it obvious ? “ alyssa, please, what a silly question. i’m obviously here to shop. ” a bright smile forms, excitement gleaming behind brown eyes. “ fall is just around the corner, it’s time for a complete overhaul. anything new, i need to see it. ” any excuse she can take to expand her closet, she’ll take it. she’s been the same way since she was a child, unable to resist. somehow coaxing her father into handing over his credit card whenever she decided she just had to have something. these days it was all mostly self-bought, something she’s deeply proud of. “ if i don’t leave here with at least four fall outfits, i’ll consider myself a failure. ”

" hey .... " alyssa said when she noticed the brunette coming into the fashion house. the blonde was just about to head out for her lunch break. but when she noticed the other just coming in, she wanted to make sure that she was being helped by somebody at least. " is there a specific reason you're here? or is there something that maybe i could help you with? " she asked to noa, tossing some of the clothes she had picked up to fix up on one of the racks for later on.
" that sounds great, actually, " nova responds with a warm smile, glancing briefly at the items on offer. really she's just in need of her daily dose of caffeine, but some of the pastries do look rather delicious. " i'll just take an iced latte for now, but i wouldn't mind hearing about some of these fall ideas. " she isn't a big fan of the pumpkin spice trend, but anything with apple and cinnamon, she'd gladly try.

" okay, well. while you're here ... is there anything that i can get for you? me and theo were talking about getting a fall menu together eventually, but. we do still have a ton of great things. if anything ... i can always just get you a coffee or something, maybe?" she questioned, a hopeful smile forming along her features as she leaned against the counter to be able to take the blonde's order.

HADLEY: i'm not really sure who gave me your number, but HADLEY: i think you left your wallet at the bakery when you stopped by to pick up your order earlier today? HADLEY: do you want me to come drop it off or?
he's making his way to the docks, decided last minute to throw a yacht party for some close friends. his shirt is open at the collar, expensive pair of sunglasses slotted in the middle. a playful smirk is already tugging at lips when he spots her, no attempt to hide his amusement. finds it rather endearing that she can't seem to get it to shut. " that umbrella’s giving you a run for your money, huh ? " he toys, his tone light and teasing as he reaches out to take it from her. with a quick motion, he closes the umbrella with ease. " guess it just requires a special touch. " as he hands it back to her, he glances over a the sun now getting ready to set before drifting his gaze back to alyssa. " is there anything else i can help with ? maybe even a drink to end the day on a better note ? "

alyssa was walking back after a long day at the beach. she was trying to close up her umbrella and it kept getting stuck and like it was about to blow away. " hey ... sorry to bother you. " she started. " but would you mind closing this up for me? i don't know why i can't get it to work for some reason. because it was working perfectly fine before. i guess i'm just ... having an off day. "
he nods, tries to hide his internal, completely unreasonable panic. it's a plant. they all die eventually, so what if his happens to die a lot quicker than most ? he’s managed to keep it alive for the last hour, which in it itself feels like a wild accomplishment. " you know what, you're right. it'll be fine. i'll be fine. i mean, i'm a dog dad. plants have got to be easier, right ? way easier. " except his dog, charlie, was difficult to forget about. wouldn't let you forget when he needed fed, or walked. soon a heavy sigh emits, regret kicking in deep. " but now that i'm thinking about it, i don't think i need the plant. my moods great, i don't even have stress, " he says, whilst being visible stressed. dealt with so much bigger and impactful responsibilities in his life so he's not quite sure why this one scares him so much. " so do you, uh . . . want a free plant ? "
alyssa couldn’t help but smile at ace's flustered explanation. his earnest struggle with the concept of plant care was endearing, and she found his awkwardness rather charming. “ ace, you’re not doomed,” she said, trying to suppress a laugh. “ honestly, a little plant isn’t as high-maintenance as you think. if you can manage caffeine intake, you can definitely manage watering a plant. and yes, setting reminders is a great idea. as for ‘plants for dummies,’ i'm sure they exist—or at least a quick online search will do the trick. trust me, you’ve got this. just remember, plants are pretty forgiving as long as you show them a bit of love and attention.” her tone was warm and reassuring, aiming to lift his spirits and ease his anxiety about the seemingly trivial task.
he nods at her words, often makes little jokes but really, he’ll never fully speak about his family dynamic. doesn’t see the point. it is what it is and it will never change. “ well, i find it hard to believe that anyone could overshadow you, and they’re foolish for trying because you have some pretty great ideas in that head of yourself, ” king’s grin widens as he catches onto her excitement. it feels almost infectious. he takes note, some of the completely achievable. good ways to draw in some younger clientele. “ a rooftop garden— i like the sound of that. rooftops always make for a good gathering spot. a few drinks, nice chat. it could be a good communal space. ” or it could be used as a way to draw in extra money if he made it available only to few, options he still has to think over. “ have you ever thought about a job in real eastate development ? ” he teases, turning fully to face her. “ think you might have a secret knack for it. ”
hadley noticed the subtle shift in his expression, a flicker of relief at finding someone who understood his vision. she could sense the conflict beneath his confident facade. “ oh, i can really relate to having big ideas that get overshadowed,” she said with a knowing smile, nudging him back playfully. “ family dynamics have a way of doing that, don’t they? but hey, let’s put the business worries aside for a moment.” her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. “ as for amenities, i’d want a space that’s both functional and a little whimsical. maybe a rooftop garden with a view, or a cozy reading nook with built-in speakers for some music. oh, and a home theater with the comfiest seating—because who doesn’t love a movie night? go wild with your imagination; the sky’s the limit.”
ACE: i don't carry it much for this exact reason. i lose it, like ... a lot. ACE: okay maybe ONE cookie, let's not be too hasty. ACE: oh i know, i used focus mode to silence my phone from everyone but her. and my grandad. ACE: well, since we're on a number basis now i guess we're like semi-friends ... go us !
HADLEY: i didn't realize it was yours until you were entirely gone from the bakery or i would've said something sooner. HADLEY: yeah ... i was going to say i think you would want that back. HADLEY: no more cookies or any goodies for you, don't you worry. HADLEY: oh right! sorry. it's been a long day and i forgot to say that it's me, hadley. definitely not teddy lol
he shakes his head, anxiety still there like an invisible cloud surrounding him but he bounces on his feet, forces himself to believe it's magically gone. " nope, i'm officially stress-free. the stress i began to feel over caring for a plant seemed to evaporated all my other stress weirdly enough, so you know, when you think about it, this things still served some purpose in the hour it was in my life. " when alyssa agrees to take it, relief washes over him. he’s all too happy to hand it over, rid himself of it. “ well congratulations, alyssa, you’re now a plant mom to yet another one of these things and i am free. ” practically beaming now, can’t wait to go home and tell his dog all about it. “ let me know if you ever need a plant-sitter, i’ll help you find someone. ”
they do. it's true. all plants die eventually. and then you have to go out and buy yourself a new one. especially if you're not someone who really knows how to take care of them. " of course you're going to be fine. i have a pup too, so i get it. they're wayyyy tougher and a plant.. well.. it's a plant. you just have to give it some sunlight and water. how hard can that really be for you, you know? " she let out a laugh and a playful roll of her eyes while her tone was also kept teasingly. " way, way, easier. at least in my opinion, yes. " dogs usually always let you know whenever they happen to need anything at all. but with plants, it's not exactly as if it can bark and let you know what it needs. " you no longer have any stress? " she made a face as she looked at ace because she could see right through the expression clear as day on his face that he was indeed.... quite stressed out right about now. " you sure? because you seem like you are to me. " she paused before continuing to speak. " if you don't want it...i'll take it. we do have a few cute plants in my apartment. so, what's one more? "
" that all sounds amazing, " nova replies, bright smile. " there's something about fall that just makes everything feel so cozy, don't you think ? " the darker nights, wrapping up warm, a greater sense of togetherness. it might just be one of her favourite times of the year. " you can't go wrong with banana bread, but those pumpkin-shaped cookies ? that’s such a good idea. do they come in different designs, or is it just the pumpkins ? because personally, i think little ghosts would be adorable. "
" doesn't it? " hadley smiled at the other. caffeine was honestly one of her daily essentials. at least one cup a day because she needed to be awake. especially when working slightly longer shifts at the bakery. a lot of the items were new things they were trying out and selling to hopefully get the fall vibe going more. " you got it. well. one of my co-workers has added apple fritters to the list, pumpkin pie, banana bread, pumpkin shaped cookies. i'm not sure if any of those spark your interest but i must say... they are SO good. " hadley felt the same way when it came to choosing a dessert. anything with apple or cinnamon and she was entirely sold.
playful smirk grows at her words. " it’s all about the technique, " he responds, quick wink as she takes the item back. " years of practice, you know. or maybe it’s just my knack for making things look effortless. " there's a quick glance towards the horizon, sky a beautiful array of golden colours. it's a perfect night. " alright, well how about some nice, crisps champagne ? we've got plenty of it on the yacht, " he adds, hands coming down on her shoulders, gently turning her in the right direction before he's pointing it out. " or i can even whip you up a nice cocktails. whatever is going to help you get over the umbrella trauma, " he teases, before making a move to help with her items.
alyssa adjusted her sunglass on the top of her head. and wiped some of the sweat that was forming on her forehead at the heat. this surely was one of the hottest days of the year and she needed to go and get water. " are you kidding.. yes! i'm about to just say the hell with it and leave it here. i can always just go and buy a new one. " she laughed. " this is so not fun for me. " alyssa blinked in annoyance at herself when she saw that kingsley was able to do it with such a sudden ease. " how did you? just do that? i swear i was struggling with that thing for almost a good five minutes until i saw you show up. " she playfully shakes her head as she takes it back to him. " yeah? you know what... i could totally use a drink right about now. i am sweating from this heat right now and you can never go wrong with something very, very ice cold. "
he likes her company, her willingness to throw around ideas. sometimes it's good to have an outside perspective from someone who isn't deeply involved, who can see a vision without thinking about the money signs. " ah, well that's true. sweet treats are in high demand year round, you're probably busier than me. " which again, makes him grateful she took the time to step out with him today. if there's one thing about kingsley, it's that he likes to give thanks where it's due, repay the favour. " you know, i wouldn't feel right about not thanking you properly, " he adds, hand coming up to his chest as a playful smirk begins to form, " i think i owe you a nice dinner for your ideas. lunch, at the very least. what do you say, think you can pencil me into your busy schedule later this week ? "
she knows exactly what a poor family dynamic could be like. and that wasn't something she would've wished on anybody. it was hard and she definitely couldn't fault him for not wanting to talk about things that were super personal such as that. " you think so, huh? well, let me just say. that's really sweet of you to say. " she smiled happily at his kind compliment towards her. hadley wasn't an interior designer but she did like to think that she could have some really good tips at times. " right? who wouldn't like the sound of that? it sounds like such a nice idea. at least it did in my own head, anyways. it could be such a fun hangout spot too, you know? especially when it comes to your super close friends. " the options for kingsley and this place was very much unlimited. " me? a job in real estate? no... i haven't ever really thought about it. i have the bakery and that keeps me busy as it is. " she responded. " but... i'll have to keep it in the back of my mind possibly. i'm not entirely a professional! just a girl who has some good ideas from time to time. brainstorming ideas is always the fun part about these kinds of things."
" how do you have that kind of self control ? " she asks, genuinely perplexed. " if i see a piece i like, it feels practically criminal to leave it on the rack. i would lose sleep thinking about it getting into the wrong hands. some people buy for the brand but don't know the fashion, you know ? nothing is more tragic than a poorly styled item. " there's a slight physical recoil at the thought, melodramatic as always. it's simply her nature. " no, totally, i get the fear of maxing out. but, if you think about it, what's the point in there being a limit if you never reach it ? " let's out a breath and nods eagerly, smile growing. truly no happier place to be than surrounded by beautiful clothing. " show me, i'm ready to be inspired. "
" i'm sorry. how could i possibly stand here and be asking you such a silly question! " she laughed jokingly in response to noa's statement back towards her. " listen, i get it. fall is the season and let me just say... i've seen so many of the pieces now and they are such good ones. i almost bought majority of them myself. but if i did i was worried that my card would've been maxed out or something. " shopping and fashion was her life at this point. " i can show you some of the new things! i think you are going to just love them! i know for a fact that i do at least. you'd consider that a failure? i usually always say at least 5. or however many i just can't see myself putting back on the rack. i can't be trusted with my cards.. debit or credit. it's not good... oops. "

kai stares, blinks, is quiet for a moment before he let's out an exasperated sigh. " yeah, so most of that went completely over my head. you really never learned to chill out, did you ? "
kai raises an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair with a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “ oh, i’m sorry, did i hit a nerve ? ” tone is teasing as he gives her an amused once-over. “ okay, then i guess it won’t bother you at all if I just—“ there’s a pause as he lifts his bottle, tips it over slight so the smallest of droplets drops onto the table. as he sets it back down, he watches her expectedly.
" excuse me! " maya would reply incredulously. maybe that was just a partial lie by her somewhat. a lot of the times people called her high maintenance. it was usually because of they she did things and liked for things to be done... neatly, at that. " what?! are you saying that i'm not chill? like at all? because i have news for you, sir. i can be very, very chill. "
there's a brief crinkle of his brows, slight confusion washing over him. but her enthusiasm is palpable, soon causes a smile to stretch onto features. " i see. and how clean exactly is ' maya clean ' ? because my apartment could probably use some of it. " truthfully, he has too much space for one person, and isn't often there to keep it in check. but he likes to have space, always wants to be prepared should any family need somewhere to rest.

"and guess what? it's not just health department clean. it was "maya" clean!" she was awfully enthusiastic about that. how could she not be? it was just the way she wanted for it to be. well, not necessarily wanted but she wasn't going to let anything be a mess. especially not any future restaurants she was looking to own... or even her apartment.
" sure they are, " ace retorts, like he's so certain of it, when in fact he's far from it. " i mean, what if you need to go out of town for weeks on end and you need someone to water it ? that's where i come in. if i have to do it for someone else, i'm sure i'd do a better job of it. " maybe. truthfully, it would probably still slip his mind. the mention of pets soon has his smile growing, genuine interest. while dogs are his favourite, he's a fan of pets in general. though he's never been able to quite understand anyone who chose cats over dogs. " oh, yeah. for sure. but now you have to tell me, what pets do you have ? "
officially stress free? if only she knew what that feeling was like in other aspects of her own life. a plant? well, that she was able to handle at least. " well, you know what? then i'm happy to be able to take it right off of your hands for you. it seemed to really stress you out! remind everyone you know to never get you any plants. " she playfully teased. " a plant mom now? well, thank you for such a great honor. i promise to do my best to take care of it. " the blonde playfully shook her head. " honestly, i don't think plant sitters are actually a thing... like at all. but if i ever need someone to watch my pets, then i can let you know! think that's something you'd be able to handle or? "
noa’s eyes light up with excitement as she listens to alyssa, a girl after her own heart. thinks anyone she can talk endlessly to about clothes are the greatest people on earth. " five times in one week ? someone is living dangerously. i love it, " the brunette exclaims, before continuing, " but i totally get it. sometimes you just have to be in the store, touch the fabric, soak up the energy. shopping isn’t just a transaction, it's an experience. you’ve got to connect with the clothes, feel their potential, " she nods her head, eyes rolling in complete agreement. " ugh, and yes ! i mean, sure, if you want to buy the trend then buy the trend, but at the very least style it in a way that elevates you enough to stand out from the masses. fashion was meant to set us apart. some people forget that. " with a bright smile, she links her arm through alyssa's, eager to quite literally shop until she drops. " and while we shop, you can fill me in. how's life ? and more importantly, is there anyone special in it ? "
" are you really asking me how i have that kind of self control? because truthfully speaking here? i genuinely have no idea myself. it's hard and not easy, let me just say that much. " it's hard for alyssa to even pull herself away from a just a couple of her favorite stores. mainly because of the fact that if it was up to her, she'd be taking everything right off of the racks at once. " or just don't entirely know how to style the things that they end up getting? or it's all solely just for the trends of everything. " maxing out credit cards was truly a nightmare for her and she hoped every time she went out shopping that it didn't do that. or at the very least decline. another nightmare of hers. " i hope i never reach mine. i went to this one store like 5 times in the last week and i thought i was going to end up reaching it. keep in mind that i didn't even get that many things at one time. " alyssa smiled and clapped her hands together excitedly while she started to lead the way, this was always her favorite part. " yay! come with me and i will show you just how inspired you'll get! "
