so last night I had a dream that everyone in scooby doo went to college or something except for shaggy and scooby and shaggy was morosely trading in the mystery machine for a prius and the last thing I remember before waking up was scooby saying “raggy why” and shaggy goes “we need a car with better gas mileage scoob”

Thinking about how I would write an adult Scooby-Doo series, because I think it can be done.

The first thing I’d do is make the characters actually be adults.  Still young, but adults, in the mid to late 20s range.  Mystery Inc. is a private detective type business that they run together.  In this universe, the supernatural/ghosts/etc are real, but not necessarily common, so when they take on a case, the culprit might be a person disguised as a monster, or it might actually be a real ghost.  The stakes can be higher; sometimes a bad guy is legitimately trying to kill them.  Sometimes the mystery they’re trying to solve is a murder.  Sometimes they actually get hurt on their cases.

Fred: the core of Fred’s character should be that he’s incredibly kind.  Like, give a stranger the shirt off his back kind.  The “Fred can’t talk to potential clients because he might take a case for free and we need to eat” kind.  He’s an honest and good person and sometimes gets himself into trouble because he assumes other people are too.  While he’s not very good at reading people or noticing ulterior motives, he’s brilliant when it comes to mechanical or engineering type stuff, so he’s the one who keeps the mystery machine running, builds their gadgets, and of course, designs the traps.

Daphne: she comes from old money, and her parents absolutely despise her life choices, to the point where they haven’t officially disowned her, but they have basically cut her off, so she doesn’t actually have access to any family money.  Growing up wealthy has granted her a variety of skills, including speaking multiple languages, horseback riding, and fencing.  She’s very into fashion and jewelry (even if she can’t afford it anymore) and has extensive knowledge of both that can occasionally provide a vital clue in a case. And even though her parents have cut her off, Daphne still has a wide network of contacts she can ask for favors sometimes, because she’s personable, and people tend to like her.  Daphne is also very emotionally intelligent, and is usually the one who can spot when someone is lying to them.

Side note - I ship Fred and Daphne, so I think I would start them off as an established couple for this universe.  Dating, engaged, married, I don’t care.  They are stupidly in love, ride or die for each other.  There’s no will they, won’t they, no worries about cheating.  They are in a healthy, happy, loving relationship, and no one (not even Daphne’s disapproving parents) are going to mess that up for them.

Velma: she is the forensics nerd who sometimes gets super excited about the wrong thing at the wrong time (”He was mummified in seconds? That’s so cool!” “Velma!  His wife is standing right there!” “Oh.  Sorry.”).  She’s not purposely insensitive, she just gets laser focused on her work and forgets to filter herself sometimes.  She’s also the one who can get so fixated on solving whatever mystery they’re working on, she’s willing to bend or maybe break laws.  Is breaking and entering really so bad?  Not if it gets them answers.

Shaggy: he is still the comic relief, but he’s the comic relief by being the only person in the group that actually has common sense.  He manages the business’s finances, he’s the only one who knows how to cook, and the others tease him for being a coward sometimes, but Shaggy maintains that if a ghost with an axe is coming for you, running is the only sensible option.  He should also have a range of random knowledge that sounds useless, but sometimes saves the day (ex ventriloquism, origami, the history of spoons, etc).

Scooby: as this is a universe where supernatural creatures exist, Scooby is an ancient eldritch type being that took a shine to Shaggy when he was a kid, and took the form of a talking dog to befriend and hang out with him.  Aside from the talking dog bit and not aging, he never uses his powers in a way that anyone notices.  The audience is not told upfront that Scooby is an ancient eldritch being; it should slowly be hinted at throughout the series so the audience put it together, but the characters never realize it.  Scooby genuinely considers Shaggy to be his best friend, and cares about the rest of the gang too.

Anyone looking to make a proper Scooby-Doo adaptation please remember:

Fred is the charismatic face of the group and the strategizer. Later adaptations made him a massive himbo who chugs respect for women juice and those have become necessary parts of his character.

Shaggy is cowardly but also incredibly resourceful; let us not forget his skill at ventriloquism. Make Shaggy the skill monkey, who every episode mentions some weird skill he has that's previously unmentioned; that'd be an amazing running gag. Also, bring back the dry humor Casey Kasem injected into the og character.

Scooby is Shaggy's best friend, the other half to his two-man comedy routine. Independently of Shaggy, Scooby is also prone to be a bit mischievous and just kind of a little scamp. Play up both of those things.

Velma is the smart nerdy one, who also had a really dry sense of humor. I don't know why she was turned into the "I'm surrounded by idiots" character because, while as I stated, she always had a dry sense of humor, she was never mean to her friends and never talked down to them, or anyone else. Bring back the chipper Velma from like Witch's Ghost or Zombie Island. Let Velma be a little cutie pie. Also keep her as a lebian

Daphne was... originally really just "The Girly One" but later adaptations have fleshed her out, like making her essentially the muscle of the group, which is just amazing and should continue. She's also been cast as the oddly resourceful one. Shaggy is the skill monkey, Daphne is the one who has a tool for literally any job. Human Swiss Army Knife, which again, would be an amazing running gag.

Have Shaggy and Daphne bounce off-the-wall ideas for a plan together, Fred steps in to ground them, while still using their ideas, and incorporating Velma's theories about the case.

Make references to Flim Flam and Hot Dog Water

A Scooby-Doo adaptation should not be difficult, and must be done with love.

I personally love the concept of Wakko being friends with Scooby and Shaggy.

It's not some rare, brand new idea, of course. I've read a handful of fics where Wakko and Scooby hang out. It makes a lot of sense that they would know each other. I mean, they're all Warner Bros. toons and can truly "pack away the snacks."

I think it's a super fun idea.

I've got a lot of ideas how their friendship would go. Whenever the gang are in town, Wakko has lunch with them and they catch up. Besides, Wakko loves hearing about their wild adventures and he tells them how his life is going. The mystery-solving duo are some of the only people who legitimately care. They ask about Yakko and Dot. They bring up that Daphne and Dot would get along super well. Maybe they should all hang out together sometime.

The restaurants in Burbank either get super excited or start crying when they see the three of them hanging out together. Scooby, Shaggy, and Wakko eat the most at those times, since they have no need to rush. There's no ghoul running around, or security guard for that matter. Speaking of, Scooby can do a mean Ralph the Guard impression.

They either met on the set of "Scooby-Doo: Where Are You?" back in the day, when the Warners were being loaned around, or...

"Uhuru, Where Are You?" was a copycat show that was intending to air around the same time as competition, and after "accidentally" forcing its delays through injuring their star dog, the Warners guaranteed Scooby and the gang's success.

Maybe one day, the Warners will get to take them up on that offer to join the gang as guest stars for an episode and they'll get to unmask some kooky crook themselves.

Tis the season, so I'm having scooby doo brainrot. I know it's not in your bio, but it is well-known enough I thought I'd ask anyway. Any headcanons you'd like to provide for Mystery Inc would be welcome, although I specifically want your two cents on whether or not Shaggy is a stoner, and whether or not the mystery gang is a polycule in any sense.

Oh man I am not very knowledgeable about Scooby-Doo at all, but I'll give it a whirl (sorry if they're bad lol)

For a long time, Fred, Daphne, and Velma tried their hardest to not let Shaggy and Scooby-Doo know that McDonald's exists. They would go to decent lengths to make sure they never passed a McDonald's while driving, and whenever the two would hear about McDonald's from TV, the three would convince them that McDonald's was only a thing in movies or it was only in their heads. This worked for a bit, but soon, they stopped falling for this and found a McDonald's, but the three still take intentional detours to avoid coming across any

As for is Shaggy is a stoner, I'd say not. Although he fits the vibe, it's not good for dogs to smell it and REALLY isn't good for them to eat it. I feel like he tried it once or twice and gave some to Scooby, but he got really sick and had to be rushed to the vet. Shaggy didn't have any for a while, but when he picked it up again, he made sure to do it away from Scooby, but he could still smell his breath and it made him wanna puke, so Shaggy stopped

As for the polycule thingy, I dont really know. Honestly, I barely know what it is, but a quick Google tells me that (and this could be very wrong, in which case I do apologize in advance) it's a group of people connected by current and/or past relationships. If this is the case and I don't have it wrong at all, I can see it. Daphne and Fred seem to have something going, as do Velma and Daphne, and I've seen some things about Shaggy and Velma possibly dating in the past

if you’ve ever wondered how I look in real life, consider this:

If Youve Ever Wondered How I Look In Real Life, Consider This:

Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, but with redder hair, blue eyes, a slightly more feminine body, and hates dogs. Cats are superior.

With Scooby Doo trending I am here to remind everyone of the masterpiece that is Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.

I haven't seen Velma but if you want a more edgy carton of scooby doo this is the show for you

You want Himbo Fred? Got it. Want the gang to actually like each other with the found family trope? Got it. Want the characters to be likable? Got it. Not to mention all the implied and off-screen death. Highly recommended, please watch you won't be disappointed,

In my opinion if your mystery gang can't be read even slightly as a loving polycule, then your wrong 😤
