Fellow art students as we venture out this weekend to buy our art supplies for class, let us pray. Let us pray that The Lord and Savior Jerry smiles down upon us with his son Dick Blick guiding us into the light and student discounts. And may the holy Pearl take the gift card saved for that one special product you need for that one class. May your colors be in stock and may the employees be tall and helpful. May your sketchbooks be plentiful and may the moleskins be on sale. May you remember your student ID in hopes of a small but much needed discount from whatever store you may enter. And may your professors not add onto the list after you’ve left the store. Resist the temptation of the pretty prismacolors you will never use because they’re much too expensive to be wasted. And lastly, may the ramen noodles be tasty and plentiful for the next two months. In Jerry’s name we pray.

Also Me: I fucking hate drawing. Fuck this. I'm not fucking drawing anymore. I quit. Everything I make looks like crap. Fuck art.

Do you think I’m looking to make myself into a millionaire? I want to spend my time and efforts going to art school and making art and want to spend hours on a piece for someone, it’s not like there’s no careers I could have in art, there are really so many. S O M A N Y. I could work in stagecraft, I could be an animator, or an illustrator, museum curator, or make comics, or video game design, and so many other jobs. I have endless possibilities and just because there’s that ‘starving artist’ stereotype does not mean every artist will be starving. In fact, only around 4.5% of fine art majors are unemployed. There are so many opportunities if one just looks for them.
I know I’m not going to be the business major, or some prodigy in the medical field, but I will get the degree I want, and I will find a career that both pays the bills and makes me happy.
