why does a 20 min sketch look better

Yet another addition to the ASOIAF x Harry Potter AU that Iām way too overly fond of. I tried changing things up a bit by creating this piece in Procreate for once (I usually try for Photoshop whenever I do have the urge to draw anything digitally). Although I despise the idea of only having up to 130 layers open in Procreate, the choices for brushes is way better compared to whatās available for Photoshop on the iPad. Had lots of fun messing around with the brushes for this piece which is always a plus! Anyways moving back on topic, I decided to go with more of a portrait feel for this new piece of Fem!Harry or Harriel as I like to refer to her. I decided to go with a green color scheme for this one instead of any Targaryen colors when compared to my last post (thereās also another animal in addition to the dragon motif in this new post as well). I might try my hand on a more Gryffindor look for a future piece (maybe Iāll make a stag inspired piece too if Iām able too). Anyways onwards to more fem Harry shenanigans!

"Stuff Being Thrown at My Head," a photo series by Latvian photographer Kaija Straumanis

It's been so long since I sketched people and well my mum wanted a sketch this morning so here it is^^
I was told in college that dead on portraits arenāt āinterestingā. That something needs to be off center, that the composition or perspective needs to pull the viewer in alone.Ā
I believed all of this until I didnāt. I finished a self-portrait I had started 2 years ago- 2 years since Iāve graduated. So 4 years post college.Ā
I didnāt mean to take 2 years. I just kind of forgot about it. Lost motivation. Was working in a coffee shop and became extensively lethargic after my shifts.Ā
I think this is due to āparalyzing perfectionismā. I just read about that concept a bit ago in a book called āAnxiety Toolkitā.Ā
Anyways though, I find that you can push the tones and form with strokes and color.Ā
I have an interest in hues of pinks and blues. Cool hues. Colors that exist in skin tones that people donāt seem to focus on. The red in the nose, the flushed cheeks, the blood vessels under the skin with the blue undertones. They pop out. Push their way to the surface.Ā
Those are the tones that give flesh life. Thereās a softness in them. A delicacy.Ā
I havenāt oil painted in a while. So my usage of color doesnāt convey how I see or feel any of it.Ā
I just need to paint more.
