It had taken a long time for Koba to trust me. I knew it wasn’t easy for him, especially after everything humans had done to him. He always had an eye on me ever after I had gained his trust. It was a different look in his eyes now.

I could feel his gaze on me when I was helping to make dinner for the colony that day. I tried to always be friendly with him to show him that I wasn’t like the past humans who had hurt him. He’s a strong warrior and he helped me learn how to hunt. I don’t hunt much anymore; I’d rather help the women and children with things around the colony.

Koba watched her from a far helping with tonight’s dinner. She was the human who had changed his mind; made him see things like Ceaser. The ape king had let her stay after leaving a human group. She helped the colony as much as she could. Koba missed their time together when he was teaching her to hunt. He wanted her next to him again. He wanted her.

Ceaser had noticed Koba starring her. He walked over with a smile on his face and sat down beside his friend.

“You miss her?” Ceaser signed as he sat beside him.

“What?” Koba questioned being taken aback.

“I see how you look at her. Not like human. Something more.” Ceaser signed with a grin coming across his face.

“She is different. Something more. I can’t.” Koba signed his frustration rising within him. Why couldn’t she be an ape? Why did she have to be a human?

“You could. It’s your feelings. Talk to her.” Ceaser signed trying to help his friend.

“I’ll think about it.” Koba signed going back to his starring.

Ceaser frowned and arose from his place. He patted Koba on the back and traveled down the ramp to the dining place.

(Y/N) was busy putting the finally touches on dinner that night. They were having deer with different fruits that the apes had gathered. She could feel Koba’s gaze on her and it made her nervous. She wasn’t scared of him but she didn’t want to mess up in front of him. She felt like she was putting on a show. She looked up seeing Ceaser coming down the ramp from Koba. Koba had his eye fixed on her again and she could feel heat inside her raise. She liked Koba but she knew that even though he liked her as a friend that there was no way that he could see her as a mate. He’d never want to be with her like that.

Before (Y/N) knew it Ceaser was walking through her. Ceaser wasn’t trying to scare her but it seems he did anyway. He broke her stare with Koba by walking up next to her.

“Oh, hey Ceaser, sorry I got distracted.” She said while loosely sighing along with her speaking.

“It’s okay. Any reason for your distraction?” Ceaser signed while looking at tonight’s meal.

“It’s nothing to concern you with.” She said with smile; not trying to sound rude.

“Surprise me.” Ceaser signed plainly. He wanted to know how she felt about Koba.

“Well, I’ve been noticing Koba starring at me. I’m not worried about it but I just wonder what he is thinking when he is looking at me.” She spoke all this not wanting Koba to read her signing. She liked Koba but there was not point in trying to get with him. He would never like her like that.

“He likes you. Try talking to him about it. No point in hiding feelings.” Ceaser signed back wanting their relationship to go somewhere. He wanted both of them to be happy.

“I will try. Maybe I can sit by him tonight at dinner.” (Y/N) signed back with a hopeful smile.

“Good spirit.” Ceaser signed as he left the talk to his wife.

Koba thought about Ceaser words. He didn’t want to destroy their friendship but he wanted her to himself. He wanted to feel her close to him again. He would have to sit beside her at dinner and study her body language when she is around him.

That tonight at dinner, (Y/N) had fixed each groups food so everyone would have enough for their groups. She normally sat with Ceaser’s group so that worked with plan to get closer to Koba. Ceaser and the groups were already sat down when she finally came to eat. Koba had saved her sit right beside him. He made sure that no one would sit there. Koba looked at her when she came up to the group looking for a sit.

“(Y/N), here.” Koba signed as him pointed at the empty spot beside him.

“Thank you, Koba.” (Y/N) signed with a smile as she sat next to him.

“I have something for you.” She signed to him. She pulled berries out of a small bag. (Y/N) hoped that the gesture would show him somewhat of how she felt for him.

“Thank you. That’s very kind of you.” Koba sighed as he took the berries. It was very kind of her.

The group told stories that tonight that made everyone laugh. The night grew cold and (Y/N) began to grab her arms for warmth.

“Cold.” Koba sighed looking at her.

“Yes, I forgot my coat.” She sighed as Koba wrapped an arm around her and brought her close to him. Koba leaned into her and whispered into her ear.

“It’s okay. I’ll keep you warm.” Koba said looking down at her for her reaction. (Y/N) was blushing up at him. Koba held her close to him.

“Thank you, Koba.” (Y/N) blushed as his hand grip her shoulder. She noticed the group had shocked expressions from Koba’s actions. Koba also noticed this and only held his head higher almost daring someone to say something. The others quickly when back to what they were doing before trying not to stare.

Finally, it was time to sleep and the apes started to clear out of the dinner place. Koba was thinking about what to do next; how to make a difference in their relationship. (Y/N) didn’t want to move but she needed to sleep for the day tomorrow.

“Come with me.” Koba signed as he began to stand. (Y/N) nodded her head and followed him out of the dinner place.

He held her hand as she followed behind him. They came up to his hut and he stopped.

“Would you like to come in? To talk?” Koba questioned as he held the leaf door open. (Y/N) blushed thinking of more than just talking.

“Of course.” (Y/N) said as she went through the door. Koba followed behind her closely then moving in front to light a small fire. His hut was cozy but you could definitely tell that a man lived here.

“Your hut is very cozy.” (Y/N) stated as she sat next to the fire.

“Try to keep clean. Easy. Only me.” Koba stated as he sat down beside her. He tried to get close to her again. They starred into the fire together waiting for the other to speak. Finally, Koba spoke up.

“Miss hunting?” He questioned as he looked at her. (Y/N) turned him understanding the real question.

“I do sometimes but I don’t miss the bears. I miss hanging out with you honestly. You taught me a lot.” You broke eye contact with him after saying this. Becoming embarrassed from telling him this. Koba smiled from hearing this.

“Miss you too. I keep eye on you.” He put a hand on thigh to get your attention back on him.

“I’ve noticed that. You starred at a little more than just me though.” You smiled noticing how close the two of you were getting.

“You are different. Interesting curves.” Koba broke eye contact to say all that. He was honest at least.

“Are you interested in me or my curves.” You giggled as you saw him getting frustrated.

“Good morning, Caesar and Cornelius.” I greeted and signed at the same time. Cornelius smiled up at me and reached up for me. Caesar smiled down at his son and hands him over to me.

“What are you up today?” Caesar questioned as he noticed my bag hanging over my shoulder. Cornelius hugged me and then he also noticed my bag.

“I’m planning on taking a bath today so I got my supplies. I’ll be close to the colony just near the river.” I answered has I moved my bag more outward letting Caesar see the bag better.

“You will need protection. May be dangerous.” Caesar responded with worry.

“I wouldn’t want to bother anyone. I’ll be okay” I stated not wanting to drag anyone else out in the woods with me.

“More wolfs and bears in area. Bring Koba.” Caesar declared putting his foot down on this. I was floored by this decision. Really Koba?

“Koba? Doesn’t he hate me and doesn’t he have better things to do?” I asked worried about this decision. Koba and I had very limited conversations; if you could even call them that.

“No. It’ll be okay. I’ll go get him. Stay here.” Caesar walked away with Cornelius still in my arms. I looked down at Cornelius.

“It’s going to be a long day.” I told him looking back up to see Caesar and Koba talking in the distance.

“Why must I go?” Koba signed at Caesar getting angry.

“She needs protection and you are the best warrior.” Caesar signed placing a hand on Koba’s shoulder.

“Fine. She better be quick.” Koba huffed as he looked at Caesar.

“Never rush a woman.” Caesar stated shaking his head. Koba rolled his eyes and walked down to (y/n), Caesar followed behind him.

I watched as Koba and Caesar approached me. Koba looked angry with his new task. I was very nervous now. How could Caesar think this was a good idea?

“Come.” Koba spoke as he looked at me annoyed. I handed Cornelius to his father and waved goodbye to the both of them.

I followed Koba outside the gates and into the forest. I walked beside him at this point. He had his spear with him and he walked with his head held up high. I wanted to talk to him but I couldn’t think about what to say. I noticed he had a net hung across his back.

“Going to fish?” I questioned throwing him off guard. He eyed me for a second before speaking.

“Need to do something while out here. Waste of time.” He had malice in this voice.

“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to waste your time but Caesar said that I needed protection.” I responded feelings bad that I had put a stop to his own tasks for today.

“It’s fine. Caesar right.” Koba sighed shaking his head.

“What you don’t think I can take care of myself?” I eyed him watching his expressions.

“I know you can’t. Weak human.” Koba laughed out walking ahead of me.

“Let go then. Prove me wrong.” I stopped walking, trying to prove a point. Koba stopped and turned around.

“Really?” Koba cocked a brow looking at me up and down.

“Yes. Let’s wrestle. No weapons.” I laid out the rules and put down my bag. Koba put down his net and spear. He started at me with a run and I jumped out of the way. I jumped on his back and grabbed on to his neck. I locked my legs around his waist and wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled. He grabbed my arm and forced them apart. “You going to watch me?” I questioned in a joking manner. Koba shook his head and looked away.

“Have to protect you, don’t I?” Koba smirked crossing his arms.

“Really? I’m not taking a bath in front of you, you’re a guy.” I starred at him crossing my arms over my chest.

“Not ape. Nothing for me.” Koba plainly stated not moving from his spot.

“Oh really?” I questioned as I began to undress. I removed my top and bra first and placed them on the bank of the river. I undid my shorts and also placed them on the bank. I left my panties on not wanting to be completely naked in front of him.

“I’m so sorry about all those awful things they did to you. You never deserved that.” I should feel my heart sink after hearing his story.

“Happy now. Free now.” Koba stated watching my worry form on my face.

“Why trust me after everything that those people did to you?” I questioned watching think of the words to say.

“Different. You have good in you.” Koba spoke looking in my eyes. Koba got off of his elbow and pulled our forehead together. I looked down at his lips and when for a quick kiss. Koba pulled back and looked at me.

“You ready to go?” I looked back at Koba. He was coming back from the river. I packed my stuff in the bag and hung it over my shoulder. Koba nodded and grabbed my hand leading us back up to the colony. Hand and hand we made it back to the colony; together.
