Chapter 19: Gods from Epistles will be released this weekend, or at latest, sometime next week. This chapter is more Lae’zel centric as I find her character fascinating and wanted to explore a few beats of lore from the githyanki race. It is a heavy chapter in some regard, but as always, I hope it will be enjoyable.
A House, A Home (The Dark Urge x Enver Gortash)
Part 3 (of 3) is now up on AO3! (Rating: Explicit. Word count: 8.9k)
series: sex and violence, one is just the other
The memory surfaced unexpectedly. She was laughing in a sunlit room. This room, and this bed, with the sheets rumpled and well-used. Enver was stretched out across them, naked. Beautiful. He was lounging on pillows, ever the spoiled lord, but his arms stretched above his head, bound by a length of black silk that was tied somewhere near the headboard. His jaw was clenched, but he looked at her with a haze of lust and longing in his eyes. Her pale hand held a dagger, one of his many gifts, too delicate to be much use in most of her work. But it was perfect for today. She slowly licked the blade and tasted the salt and iron of his blood while he watched every movement of her mouth. “Darling Enver,” she mocked. “Is this worth it, to be able to call me yours? Do you have the pet Bhaalspawn you’ve always desired?”
A lot of stories about learning magic hide the cost of magic: they tell a story that you can have magic through your own individual efforts, i.e. that magic comes by studying hard, learning something, and you just have it! You get this magic, and it’s yours.
Our own society encourages us to pretend that magic is free in similar ways. “I worked hard, I got paid, and I bought this iPhone. It’s magic! And it’s mine!” But we know, we all know deep down, that much of the actual costs are being paid by other people somewhere else, or will be paid by you in the future and in your children’s future.
Magic isn’t free. Whenever there is real magic, someone pays for it. And trying to claw apart the story to get to that truth, to expose and show that truth on a visceral level, is part of what I’m trying to do.

OH! and in addition to my last post where i said chuuya would not be mad at dazai for leaving may i also suggest:

this panel is so important to me because i view it as a way of asking “are we okay?” or “you’re not mad at me right?” and “we are okay, i’m not mad.” type of confirmation. that’s why i ache that dazai laughing till he cries isn’t animated because it means they are okay :( .

this page of The Book of Mormon Girl broke me and put me back together and ive been thinking about it nonstop since i read it last month so i present it to the masses. (it is the author talking to herself as a YW, but it struck me deeply)

haven't been able to stop thinking of a locked tomb + his dark materials crossover all week, so here's some incredibly self-indulgent ramblings and sketches to exorcise the concept out of my head (gideon's daemon is a pokemon - a growlithe - because of course gideon's daemon would be a pokemon)

those two tipsy aunties gossiping in the corner of the function except they’re grown men
