New Who - Tumblr Posts
I get this so much. I've been a fan of doctor who for a long time now but I can't help but feel like I'm a fake fan. I don't get any of the references and all the build up that previos episodes made just fades away when they introduce a character I apparently should know about because "it was so obvious". I hadn't even heard that name before and I was supposed to get that anagram?
I know RTD is just having fun playing with his childhood characters and a part of the fandom really enjoyed those kinds of references. I'm not trying to say they should stop referencing Classic Who but maybe give a little more context?
It really was a good episode but I spected Susan to be... Well... Susan, Mr.Flood could have been anyone important to the plot cause she recognised the TARDIS and I thought "the one who waited" could be Rouge ("find me") or the Master (who apparently is still a tooth). All my theories were based on things I know about DW and they took all those possibilities from me and said "oh no that's Sutekh obviously". And I can just nod, agree and hope they explain something in the next episode because it's really hard to find Classic Who episodes in my country.
Don't take me the wrong way, I love it it's just... disappointing.
Can I just quickly say that as a fan of New Who and someone who is slowly trying to catch up on classic who, that this season is not fully it?
This is not meant to be offensive but when you promote this as season 1, as a new show in a way or rather a new era, then bringing back a villain from classic Who, a show that is like genuinely hard to find for international viewers, is not the move for the final?
I mean this with no disrespect but promoting this in a way to new viewers that is meant to offer them an easy start into Doctor who but then turning around and making the big bad villain of the entire season, hell even the one that was hinted at before the season, a villain that as far as I know appeared for one arc/episode arc in Classic Who is not the way to introduce a new show.
I love it but it just feels like having a plottwist like this when you claim that you can watch it without prior knowledge is just false advertising.
It just feels weird to pull of a plottwist like that when the entire premises since the specials has basically been "The Doctor is finally letting go off his past and embracing himself."
Again, I loved the episode but as someone who isn't from the UK or anywhere in Great Britain, I truly have to search deeply to even find most Classical Who related things which I can only assume is even worse in other countries. I just feel like this was not the move to get people into Classic Who and it leaves a few of the new viewers, even the older ones who watched New Who, lost because it just feels like the suspense hasn't paid off for us as we don't really know what to do with a villain that seemingly was so brilliantly set up but never once appeared on screen before.
I think part of the reason why I love Doctor Who so much is because it's comforting to me.
Out of the whole universe, out of ALL of the universes, the Doctor always has human companions. Humans, every day people, who live for change and adventure and novelty.
While I personally don't like change, and adventure can be scary, I think I enjoy the thought of being on a TARDIS with some of my closest friends, exploring the stars.

Comment Bingo: Doctor Who Edition
Very simple rules: comment on a fic with the given tag/trope in a particular square; repeat until you've completed 5 squares in a line
Very simple goals: encourage readers to comment on fics; encourage fandom writers to KEEP WRITING

I created a Doctor Who Comment Bingo card, combining common Who tropes and tags. Thank you to @feedthefandomfest for the idea and template. Feel free to use and spread the love.
I actually think it would be so funny if they called it season 1 because that would mean that this is New New Who
DW is love

Introducing Ryan, Yasmin, Graham, and⦠the Doctor!
Don't mind me, just over here torturing myself with a rewatch of "The Angels Take Manhattan" because I can't sleep.
River lost her parents in that moment, but yet she kept her eyes open so the Doctor could grieve.
I want a love story like Amy and Rory.
I am so normal. I donβt think about how Amy Pond met her daughter in her first run in with the Weeping Angels and said goodbye to her again when faced with the same threat.

Not sure if Jack Harkness would be jealous of Rogue or beg for a threescore.
Who am I kidding. Threesome for the win.

I love these kind of pictures of the different versions of the Doctor, so Iβm still glad that I could come up with one too :]
Dear Whovians, I like fanfiction, I have already discovered whofic.com and fanfiction.net (and found many fantastic stories) but I wonder are there other Doctor Who fanfic websites I'm not aware of? Here's your chance. Classic Who and New Who. Websites or Tumblr pages or whatever.
Who vs Why

Ruby kept focusing on 'who' and not 'why' in regard to her birth mother and it drove me wild.
Does the 'who' technically make sense for the overarching storyline? Yes! They clearly understood that this myth of Ruby's birth mother needed to up be built up both for the audience and for the characters.
BUT, that gets lost when they're constantly focused on who Ruby's birth mother was, especially towards the end. It's more interesting as to why she left her at the church on Christmas.
What was so special about Christmas? About that church? Why would a woman abandon a complete newborn?
If they had stuck specifically to why she was left that still would've played into the legend. Maybe Ruby kept making stories up when she was a child, that her birth mother had some secret mission and had to leave Ruby there or SOMETHING because that's what children do!
So to find out how normal her birth mother is, it's both confusion but also a slight relief because Ruby realizes that her birth mother was just a girl like her.
It makes that reveal with Louise at the end more impactful because let's be honest, they brushed over that so fast.
This also helps to align Ruby's story more with the Doctor. The Doctor wants to know why his parents left him on that planet. Yes, who is important, but why? Why there? Why then? That is so much more interesting and compelling.
Maybe the Doctor has started to make up stories in his own mind about who they are. They could've had such a wonderful scene where Ruby shares the little stories she's made up over the years.
Also, side note and I'm not going to get personal, but I do have other issues with the way Louise was presented as Ruby's "mother" and not "birth mother". I give RTD the benefit of the doubt as he did address that in commentary (though it wasn't the best response).
I just watched the new dr. WHO 60th anniversary special and I loved it so much omg!! The fact they brought back David Tennnant was so nice, I love him as the doctor. The new title sequence was so cool too!
Spoilers ahead
The meep is so adorable too, even though the meep was evil that wonβt change the fact that the meep is the cutest thing Iβve ever seen.

Seeing people mad about the meepβs pronouns (lack of) and Iβve seen some stuff about Rose, itβs honestly kind of funny because itβs not hurting anyone, just making people happy seeing representation, but people seem to take it so personally.
The end was so sweet with the doctor and Donna seeing the Tardis too!! It was so sad at the start, and when I thought Donna would die π
Overall it was so sweet and I really enjoyed it, Iβm so excited for the next two eps! I would love to here what other people thought of it.

Doctor Who text posts: River edition β 5/?
open letter to the doctor who fandom: stop making haha silly jokez about how FuNnY it is for a man to be pregnant. the handful of times doctor who has made jokes like that, those jokes were cissexist & transphobic. you are also being cissexist & transphobic by making an enormous deal about how crazy/funny/weird the idea of a pregnant man is. grow up and check your biases.

messy twelfth doctor sketch i've never drawn 12 before (surprisingly since he's my fav doctor) so any tips would be appreciated
