people over at the splatsona discord server were discussing desertpunk au and i have never rushed over to my computer as quickly because d a m n was drawing these fun

it’s official i see epic game and go “hmmmm what if I made a magical girl au for it” 

sticking all my crappy ideas for it under the cut:

this is more like a weird amalgamation between a sleepless domain au and an actual mg au but here we go folks

-Cephies will begin to manifest magical powers as soon as 14, when they have full control over their squid and humanoid forms. These powers will usually appear in a dream, before they will eventually gain the ability to transform. In this form, their ink becomes empowered, and they gain a special ability differing between people.

-Magical girls (or boys, sometimes) will often work in teams. There are generally two different kinds: non-thematic (think...Team Blue, Yellow-Green, etc.) and thematic (think Team Iromaki, School Cardigans, Army, etc.). There’s no real difference between the two, except that thematic teams usually have coordinating outfits, abilities, and sigils.

-Costumes and weapon themes usually reflect personalities, and can sometimes change over time. Matching costumes are signs of a thematic group.

-Every magical girl has a sigil on their body somewhere unique to every cephie. Thematic teams will usually have sigils that match or at least look very similar to each other, and they can be located almost anywhere on the body, though in squid/octo form, the sigil will always be located on the forehead or tentacles.

-At night, every magical girl is officially permitted to transform and hunt down monsters in varying parts of Inkopolis. A barrier protects civilians from monster break-ins.

-Magic is derived from ink. For example, if a cephie has fire powers, her ink will combust when flicked, or if she has levitation/flying powers, her ink has the ability to lift objects/herself, etc.

Can I request Bobble and Mask being cute together? Either as friends or romantically. Up to you

Sticking all my ideas under le cut

Uh okay so Kamabo tried to create a series of concentrated gas bomb that would allow people to become sanitized through exposure to it but. Uh. They fucked up and tried to destroy these bombs but they uh. made these terrigen mist style things that mutated people and animals and gave them Waaaaaaacky superpowers 

So now villains and sometimes new Kamabo experiments show up at night and Fuck Shit Up but now there’s superhero cephies to stop them epiccccccc

since uh. They’re superheroes with Cool CostumesTM they use their canon names as their secret identities. they have different, “real names” outside of superhero work.

BLUE TEAM:

After they stumbled upon yg team trying to stop a leftover kamabo bomb from exploding, they ended up getting cool powers and have been clumsily bumbling thru hero work ever since

Goggles (Hiro Ichikawa): he’s got. super quicc flashy powers I guess. like, he’s very fast at moving 

Headphones (Kokomi “Katie” Tsai): magic arrows whaaaat

Bobble (Nina): she has Magical Eyesight that lets her see the future

Specs (Dominic Fike Jr.): lightning shoots from his hands. very cool

YG TEAM: 

Some sort of veteran superhero team. Rider made the rest of his team go into support roles while he tried to solve problems solo, though after he failed to defuse a kamabo bomb (which lead to blue team gaining powers), he changed his stance a little

Rider (Irvine): Super strength

Stealth: Invisibility

Bamboo (Bora Gim): Can make like. Cool psychic force field things

Blazer (Anne): Healer

GLOVES (MICAH): 

A newbie hero who’s always trying to hop onto the newest trend. While he has no powers himself, he built himself gloves and shoes (after being inspired by team emperor’s technology) that let him stick to walls.

CYAN TEAM:

A Cool Cyberpunk Vigilante TeamTM who go by the Name Sub Weapon Hell. They’re very experienced in making hero weapons and suits, though they work more as mercenaries for hire.  Mask (Cody): Inhaled Kamabo gas and got Cool Misty Illusion Power things, but now his lungs are fucked up! yay...

Moon (Esther Park-Ramirez): Esports gamer and occult enthusiast who became. A technomancer and can now manipulate technology and electronics 

Designer (Desmond): Heightened reflexes, balance, etc. “like a cat”

Jersey (Sydney): Spiderman but with like. Toxic, goopy webs

I read the new chapter a while back, Still crazed about Bobble’s new hair-

Aaaaaand since Thanksgiving is finally over, it officially means Christmas time for me, baby! 

I also redesigned my old coroika OCs, “Team-Team” in the splatoon 3 volume.
