In the data of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, sprites and animations for various Nintendo characters exist that would have been used inside the Starbeans Café, depicting the characters tasting the coffee. In the finished version of the game, all of these have been removed and replaced with scenes featuring Professor E. Gadd. One of these characters is Samus Aran from the Metroid series. Note Samus drinking a coffee in the bottom left.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, A Failsafe Exists If One Brother Somehow Enters A New Area Without

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, a failsafe exists if one brother somehow enters a new area without the game having registered the brothers being officially separated from the other (either through the use of split-up moves or during specific story segments).

If this happens, the front brother (Mario in the footage) will wait at the entrance to the area and the other brother will join up with him by walking in from off-screen. This can be seen in some specific spots where the rear brother can get stuck on a ledge close to an exit, as shown in the footage.

Top: Near The Beginning Of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Toad Is Very Briefly Playable Inside Marios

Top: near the beginning of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Toad is very briefly playable inside Mario’s house. The cutscene where Toad runs into the house ends without any indication that Toad is now playable, and it may take some time for the player to realize that nothing is happening and to try pressing random buttons, leading to Toad moving in response to the input.

Bottom: in the Japanese version of the game, which unusually for the time was released slightly later in Japan than in North America, a special D-pad icon was added in the bottom left to indicate that Toad can now be controlled, to prevent any potential confusion.

An Extremely Versatile Glitch In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Involves Luigi Hiding In A Barrel And

An extremely versatile glitch in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga involves Luigi hiding in a barrel and the barrel then being taken to places in the overworld where it was never intended to be. One side effect of this is that during cutscenes, if Luigi enters a scene while hiding inside a barrel and the script calls for his sprite to change into a cutscene-specific sprite, the sprite will be displayed with an incorrect palette.

An example of this can be seen in the provided screenshot. Before the rematch against Popple in the Winkle section of Chucklehuck Woods, Mario and Luigi run around the area, preventing Popple from trying to leave. If Luigi enters the scene while inside a barrel (not normally possible without the glitch), then his clothes will turn brown and his skin will turn blue when he blocks Popple’s path.
