“Your Majesty, do you have a deep friendship with Director Jin Xuan?”

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched this scene.
Bonus: Jin Yan’s finger

My Top 5 Favorite Blood of Youth Relationships
1. Jade Deity and Jin Yan

The loyalty and love between these clashing personalities is such a joy to watch. Jade Deity has lost so much and Jin Yan has no one left except him. A delightful dish of determination and desperation.
2. Emperor Mingde and Jin Xuan

Jin Xuan has been by Mingde’s side his entire life, so the lack of control over what comes next once Mingde has finally waned must be devastating to him. Powerful as he is, how can he fight against the fate written for him? Who will he hurt on his path? Angsty old man yaoi with tender touches and treasonous troubles.
3. Jin Xuan and Jin Yan

I’m dying to know how Jin Xuan got Jin Yan so fully wrapped around his finger. Probably his finger.
4. Jin Wei and Lei Wujie

This one has a similar appeal to Lei Wujie/Xiao Se . These two make a good team, and if anyone could make Jin Wei smile, it’s the fire puppy.
5. Marquis Lanyue and Prince Chi

I don’t know what’s going on between these two, but it’s entertainingly tense and chilling.
The Five Eunuchs

I don’t know why, but Jin Xuan and Jin Wei got the most promotional posters that I could find out of the Five Eunuchs. Can’t complain though, they look great! 🍠💜

I’ve been on the verge of watching Nirvana in Fire for over a week now, and I’m only finding out now that this emperor with the surname Xiao played by the actor Ding Yongdai also has a companion eunuch with white hair?! The vibes are different but I’m officially sold
Interesting! I’ve mainly thought about Jin Xuan being the one compared to Zhuo Qing (not so much in a self-esteem-lowering way so much as a philosophical and power-scaling way. As in, what is Jin Xuan capable of? How far will he go in pursuit of his ends when compared to the absolute ruthlessness of Zhuo Qing?). Jin Wei comparing himself to Zhuo Qing isn’t something I’ve considered before, but that could certainly be in line with how he has already been shown to compare himself to his martial brothers

the way jinwei looks at jade deity is such a mood. jade deity and jinyu might be besties but him and jinwei are totally brothers

Jin Xuan/Jin Yan Clothing Analysis

I somewhat shoddily put this together a while ago just to organize my thoughts, and I’m still losing my mind over the possibility that Jin Yan wearing Jin Xuan’s old clothes might have planned from the start. I mean, in the Blood of Youth, Jin Yan is much taller than Jin Xuan, but his outer robes appear shorter or the same length. Then, in Dashing Youth, young Jin Xuan is very clearly wearing the robes that will be Jin Yan’s. The implications, the possibilities… Is allowing Jin Yan to wear his old robes a power move for Jin Xuan? Or is it a sign of past fondness? Did Jin Yan steal them to feel closer to him, or was he given them after a situation like being stabbed or falling in a lake? So many questions, so many potential answers.

Zhuo Qing Clothing Analysis

There has long been symbolism hidden in the five eunuchs’ costumes (such as the similarity in patterns on Jin Xian’s purple python robe and winter green traveling robe possibly representing the desire in his heart to leave the imperial city for the Martial Arts World, and the fascinating revelation that Jin Yan’s current robes are likely hand-me-downs from past Jin Xuan), and the case is true for the fearsome Director Zhuo Qing.
Zhuo Qing’s collar piece is the same as Jin Wei’s, the student most devoted to him in the present day and possibly closest to his heart.
Meanwhile, the patterns on the sleeves and shoulders of current Jin Xuan’s overrobe match those of Zhuo Qing’s. In shedding the robes now belonging to Jin Yan, current day Jin Xuan has indeed taken up his shifu’s mantle. Yet, Jin Xuan doesn’t dress exactly like Zhuo Qing. The layer beneath, of interwoven pale purple, is reminiscent of Jin Yu. These woven strips of fabric could represent loyalty that binds the heart. In Jin Yu’s case, loyalty to Xiao Chong, and in Jin Xuan’s, loyalty to Xiao Ruojin (who, coincidentally or not, will be played by the same actor as Xiao Chong in Dashing Youth).

Wow… is Jin Xian going to be a villain in the donghua? I mean, one of the things this scene accomplishes in the novel and the live action is establishing a degree of suspicion for Jin Xuan. To have Jin Xian take his place is a deliberate choice, and I’m curious to discover if it has the implications I think it might have.

Yessss! More Zhuo Qing action! There was a promotional song released, which included this brief moment of him being awesome and terrifying. It also included quick snippets of a battle between Baili Dongjun and Jin Xuan:

If a time traveler had told me a year ago that Jin Xuan would be crossing swords with Baili Dongjun while wearing Jin Yan’s clothes, I would’ve had a nice giggle about it. Soon it’ll actually be happening, and I’m incredibly here for it 😸

This is from the preview for episode 16. I’m about to go so insane
