So I cant find the post that initially got me thinking about this, but on the topic of Julie making Luke a better writer:
We see 2 Sunset Curve songs that Luke wrote pre-Julie. Now or Never and Bright. He edited Bright a little before he gave it to her, and we only hear it in full when she's performing it, but I think the core of it was basically unchanged. Now or Never and Bright are both good songs, they're fun to listen to and they're technically well done (by which I mean that the technical aspects are all well-executed). But they're also..... kinda generic?
Like not in a bad way necessarily, but the theme of both is kinda that "Life is awesome"/"I'm awesome"/"Don't underestimate me" teenagerness that's kinda default in a way -- music I wrote in my tween/teen years had the same vibes. And I kinda think that you end up with that vibe when you're feeling a lot but you don't really know how to express it in a way that will connect with other people. We know Luke was feeling a lot because we also see Unsaid Emily, which he wrote pre-Julie but notably not for Sunset Curve to perform. Unsaid Emily is for himself and his mom. Given the time to think about it, he knows what he wants to say and knows how to say it in his song. And Unsaid Emily turns out great, in that gutting, punch-to-the-heart way.
Basically, Luke pre-Julie had the potential to write great, emotional songs, but he shied away from writing those songs with the intention of performing them. For performances, he focused on less heavy themes with a broader, more general appeal, and on hyping up audiences and encouraging people. (btw we see echoes of this a bit too in the scene on the beach where the boys end up playing This Band Is Back -- Luke's trying to cheer them up, focus less on what they lost and more on what they still have as opposed to processing their grief because then there would be Emotions and our boy does not know what to do with sad people.)
Julie-and-Luke songs are a whole different breed to Luke's pre-Julie music. There are a lot of similarities, what with Luke, Reggie, and Alex's involvement, particularly in the level of energy. They're not writing slow ballads or swingy showtunes. It's still the same style of music, but the big difference to me is the amount of emotion and emotional nuance in Julie-era music.
Finally Free is also about breaking out of the mold -- but it's triumphant and celebratory and inwardly-focused where Bright was defiant, more about making your own mark than about being true to yourself.
Edge of Great is also about envisioning the road ahead -- but it's hopeful and about the faith and wonder at the future where Now or Never is an insistence that life isn't gonna stop you from doing what you want.
Pre-Julie, Luke's songs are pushing back against an undefined opposing force (and like, his parents on some level) but he doesn't really put any of his own feelings into them. He's angry, and the anger is where he's drawing from but it doesn't actually inspire him.
But with Julie? Julie's songs dig deeper into her feelings, and I think she writes them for herself more than for others (esp. compared to Luke's pre-Julie music). She doesn't shy away from grief or fear (Flying Solo, Stand Tall) but she always turns it around by the end of the song, makes the song about growth rather than about the sucky parts of life. Flying Solo is inspired by her fear of losing Flynn, but the song itself is an ode to friendship. Stand Tall has a definite basis in how Julie thought she wasn't going to be able to make music without her mom, but it reaches everybody else because it's ultimately about overcoming obstacles and loss.
(and not to make this too sappy, but julie's the reason that luke can connect with people in the end -- not because she makes him visible but because she shows him how to actually use his emotions in his music. luke helps julie get back on her feet after her mom's death, and julie convinces luke to wear his heart on his sleeve instead of trying to hide it every time it falls out of his pocket)
concept: past luke/alex who went on like 3 dates and then kinda just settled as friends without ever talking about it.
alex: my last relationship was pretty short actually
willie: that bad?
alex: no, just-- hhhhhhhooooh my god i never broke up with him
cue comedy as alex breaks up with luke who's conflicted between being supportive and razzing alex about it (spoiler: he manages both)
can we talk about how the lyrics to now or never foreshadows pretty much everything that happens in the series?
electric hammer to the heart - the shocks from Caleb
clocks move forward / but we don't get older, no - how the boys are still the same age when they reappear as ghosts
'til our stars collided - Julie
keep dreaming like we'll live forever / but live it like it's now or never - how the boys were dreaming of such big things while in sunset curve vs in jatp in the orpheum performance as they didn't know what crossing over was
one life, no regrets / catch up, got no time to catch my breath - pretty much all what the boys were dealing with in the first few episodes with the modern world
and clocks move faster / cause that's all we're after now - Caleb closing the gap on their chance to cross over
won't stop climbing / cause this is our time, yeah - it's their time that they'll become a huge band
Julie and the phantoms!! I am obsessed with them. I love the story line and the characters are fantastic. I am super hopeful for a season 2 and I hope they do a season 2 soon.

It looks like Alex is saying 'Jesus christ' đ¤Ł

Alex & Luke + reacting to Reggie scaring the Molinas
This 100% this. I feel like this is why Carrie is always upset when it comes to julie. Its like a kind of jealousy cause she can see the raw natural talent. She knows julie can go somewhere on her own. And maybe she feels the need to live up to her (they were friends and maybe she felt like she wasn't good enough to be) so I'm wondering if she is just like her father in the sense that she doesn't think she can go anywhere with music on her own. He dad is already famous so she doesn't necessarily have to work much to get where she wants to go. But she still puts in extra effort to learn entire dance routines. I don't know where I'm going with this anymore but, I wanna see Carrie become her friend again because to me she looks so proud of julie at the end of the show. Almost like all the jealousy she felt washes away when she sees her old friend thriving.
I'm done rambling now but I love Carrie and wanna see her come back from mean girl and become the old bestfriend she once was
There's just something so utterly charming about Julie. She'll walk into a room and effortlessly catch everyone's eyes yet she's so grounded that you'll never be uncomfortable around her. People talk about her like she is this infectious warmth, they can't stop talking about her brimming talent. I mean Luke pretty much fanboys about her, Reggie thinks she is this angelic entity, Alex gets starry-eyed about how amazing she is. Flynn does everything to encourage Julie to pursue music again because she has too much talent not to. So does Ray to the point where he looks for schools outside the country and allows a house party to encourage her music. She makes people around her feel like their interests mean something. She writes songs with Luke, she could "learn how to fiddle" for Reggie and she makes an effort to interact with Alex on stage. She tells Flynn she loves her in every way possible "if somebody hurts you, I'm gonna get hurt too." She doesn't make one snide comment about Carlos' ghost hunting endeavor, she tells her dad he takes beautiful photographs. This woman is just...she is just sensational.
Make sure to tell your JATP friends to watch the show on April 30. We are trying to get the show on the top ten on Netflix.

Feel free to share and any other JATP stuff on my page.
i have been in shambles the past few days. why the fuck have the jatp cast been teasing us like that just for kenny to post that there ISNT going to be season two, charlie basically confirming that there isnt going to be a season two in a panel AND charlie cutting his hair really short
im crying
I agree, this is important. Ship Luke and Julie all you want but understand that Madison is a minor and people need to stop shipping her with Charlie. Also people need to stop asking for there to be a kiss between Luke and Julie because MADISON IS A MINOR AND CHARLIE IS AN ADULT! Seriously just no.
ok I canât find the video of the actual interview, but thereâs this clip of Madison saying that Charlie went up to her dad in the beginning of filming to tell him he has no intentions with Madison and they are just friends doing their job.Â
That clip is very important and I thought everyone should know about its existence.
i am officially not aloud to listen to the jatp soundtrack while iâm in the shower. iâve done it a total of one times and i was so distracted jamming to the songs that my shower went cold before i could finish.*sigh*
need this
Wait I know itâs unlikely but i canât stop thinking about this now so you all get to suffer with me
imagine Luke taking Julie to a homecoming dance in s2
Almost like a Casper type thing and everyoneâs like âwait isnât he supposed to be in Swedenâ
just thinking about reggie running his hand through his hair in âNow or Neverâ
Can we talk about how much strength Charlie Gillespie has to have to do the part in perfect harmony where he's kneeling, and stands while simultaneously lifting Madi. Like standing gracefully is a thing in its own right, and then lifting someone without the help of momentum while your also lifting yourself up, that requires A LOT of strength and I just...he does it so easily.

Ok so you know how there are a lot of shirts that have the three little ghosts on them, for Alex, Reggie, and Luke. I really want that but like on a beanie, but I can't find anything like that. So if anyone knows where I can find something like that please let me know.
Why is Charlie/Luke wearing red socks in perfect harmony??? I dont get it, was it a mistake!?!? If it was done intentionally can someone explain to me why they had him in red socks.
(Also this is in no way meant to be seen as me bashing the show, or Charlie Gillespie, I am very much obsessed with both of them)
Song lyrics from Julie and the Phantoms that are great for confidence
"Even if we hit the ground, we'll still fly" -Now or Never
"Wake up, wake up if its all you do" -Wake Up
"Fight through the dark, and find a spark" -Bright
"Dont care if everybody's watching g silence ain't an option" -I Got The Music
"Marching on proud, turn it up loud, cause now we know what we're worth" -Finally Free
"Let your colors blind their eyes, be who you are no compromise" -Edge of Great
"Whatever happens even if I'm the last standing image stand tall" -Stand Tall
Anything from Dirty Candi

This is officially a Madison Reyes/Julie Molina appreciation post
I mean honestly how can you not love her, she's so amazing and talented, and she's only 16!! She deserves more love

Can we talk about the fandom divide on Bobby, like half the fandom is convinced he killed his band mates, and the other half loves him, and he's their favorite character. They really gave us a blank slate and the fandom just wrote in their own version of him, and I love it.
Ok so I dont know if this has been talked about already or is already considered cannon, but I have a theory for why Julie being able to touch them got rid of Caleb's stamp. So we already "know" that the reason Julie can touch the Phantoms is because she's part of their souls, but that still doesn't really explain how it got rid of the stamp. So the stamp allows Caleb to own the phantoms souls, but when Julie becomes part of their souls this is no longer possible. Caleb can not own Julie or her soul, therefore a part of the boys' souls are off limit to him, causing his hold on them to be relinquished. This would also explain why he's now trying to get to Julie(through Nick), Caleb can't control the boys until he controls Julie
