Synopsis: he’s playing with a knife. It scares you a little bit. He decides it’ll be more fun to scare you a whole lot.
Toji’s hands are never still. Right now, he’s toying with a butterfly knife - one of many blades in his collection - flipping it open and shut, over and over. “Stop starin’ at me. It freaks me out.”
“Nothing freaks you out.” You settle on the couch beside him, and he instinctively wraps his unoccupied hand around your waist. “But that scares me a little bit.”
“Yeah?” He doesn’t stop. Open, shut. Open, shut. “It doesn’t have to. I’m not about to send it flyin’ or anything.” He slides his fingers under your shirt, and his nails dig into your skin. “I’ve got a steady grip. Had it around your neck enough times to know that, right?”
“Stop.” You hate how obvious it is, the way he makes you squirm before he even touches you.
“Eh. I don’t think I will.” He snaps the two handles of the knife together, baring the blade. “I know ya like it when I scare you.”
“No….”
“You sure?”
“Positive.”
“Hm.” His knuckles whiten around the handle, and he pulls you in tight. “You’re gonna regret that answer.” His voice is dangerously quiet, barely more than a whisper. “‘Cuz now I’m gonna have to test it out.”
“What do you” -
Suddenly, before you even see him move, the blade is pressing against your neck. You feel your entire body stiffen, the blood rushing to your head, eyes widening like a deer in headlights.
He grins crookedly, absentmindedly tapping a finger against your side. “You’re an easy target.”
You try to jerk backwards, out of danger, but he catches you, his hand flying out from under your shirt to grasp the base of your hair, fixing you in place. “You’re not gonna escape that easily, sweetheart. Not from me.” His face is in your hair now, and he inhales deeply, increasing the pressure on your neck just enough to make you wonder if he’s actually gone insane.
“You’re - you’re” -
“Yeah? What am I?” He nips at your ear, then shoves the back of your head, moving the knife in sync with your body, catching you in a rabid kiss. When he pulls back, his eyes are wide, too wide, burning your skin with an intensity you’ve never seen before. “Am I crazy?”
You can’t move. Your legs shake, and he releases your hair to bury his hand between them.
“I’ll answer that for you.” Your vision goes spotty as he traces the tip of the knife between your lips. Instinctively, you part them, and the flat of the blade presses down on your tongue, forcing your mouth to hang open. “I am. Fucking insane.”
He grips your inner thigh so hard that you’d cry out if you weren’t paralyzed, and drags his tongue slowly up the side of your neck. He inhales deeply again, and leans into your ear, a crazed smile spreading across his face as he slowly withdraws his blade from your mouth, keeping it close to your face, pointed directly between your eyes. “Now, get on the floor and make your throat useful. Before I decide I’d rather see it bleed out.”
I was just viscerally reminded of the time my biology teacher had us watch a short documentary on CRISPR technology, then write a short essay on what we would use it for that we then read out loud to the class. Other students wrote about curing heritable diseases or genetically engineering better livestock.
I detailed my plans for using germ line editing to breed cats the size of golden retrievers.
