I've actually homebrewed a whole new game for the 40k setting! I didn't like the official stuff, but here's how we do dice rolls:

100 - Mortis Crit - double maximum damage, critical success, blessing (a special buff or story tweak, DMs discretion)

95-99 - Critical Sucess - double damage dice with one half rolled dice dealing maximum damage

95-6 - DC - proceed as usual

5-2 - Critical Fail - double damage dice with one half rolled dice dealing maximum to self or party, injury to self or party, Psychic backlash

1 - Victus Crit - double maximum damage to self or party, Psychic backlash
