Cultivation
by Dorothea Tanning
Cultivating people can be arduous,
With results as uncertain as weather.
Try oysters, meerkats, turnips, mice.
My mouse field was a triumph of
Cultivation—pink noses poking
Through quilts of loam, scampering
In the furrows—until the falling
Dwarves (it was that time of year)
Began landing on my field. Fear for
Its harvest had me down on hands
And knees muttering, “Not here,”
My nails clawed at tangles of fat
Dwarves crushing mouse families.
Then, unbelievably, it was over.
By morning every dwarf, maddened
By nibbling mice, had fled the field.
Now, as before, each day, dozens
Of perfect mice leave for the city.
There, they have made many friends
Among computers, and with them
Are developing skills inconceivable
To their forebears. Already, these
Cultivated mice and their computers
Penetrate guilty secrets. Soon they will
Prevail over the turmoil that defines
This darkest of ages. And they will
Find me, asleep in my cave.

Being in pandemic mode for a year wasn’t no picnic I tells you what. But the world still be in one big ole’ mess that’s for sure.. 🍑
I don't want to be a productive member of society. I want to make my art, play my games, and rest. Every little thing overwhelms me.
Having to get up everyday and maintain my body is exhausting.
Maintaining relationships is exhausting.
Having to get up and work while looking presentable is exhausting.
I'm so tired of being demanded of anything and everything. And I know I probably won't be able to rest until I'm either old and senile or dead.
I didn't ask for this, yet here I am...Slowly rotting away. There's no time to truly enjoy life, work, and be both physically and mentally healthy simultaneously, for the majority of your time.
I just want to get out of here and find true joy.

Would you take a job as a professional hermit (also known as a garden hermit or ornamental hermit)? Yes, believe it or not, this was a real job in the Victorian era. In 18th and 19th century England, Scotland and Ireland, aristocrats placed ads like this in papers: "Wanted - Ornamental Garden Hermit". The profession required you to become a human ornamental folly on the grounds of a wealthy family estate whilst living in a cave or cottage, turret or hole, contemplating the human condition and enchanting the occasional passerby with your presence at the behest of the landowner. The less like a young English aristocrat you looked, the better. So they were often elderly men with long beards and loose clothes, resembling garden gnomes. Talk about a dream job! Who WOULDN'T want a gig like this? It's the Victorian equivalent of a Walmart greeter.
Hermit Mode

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the constant hustle and bustle of modern life? Do social interactions drain your energy, leaving you longing for solitude? If so, then you might be familiar with the concept of hermit mode.
Hermit mode is a term that has gained popularity in recent years to describe a state of voluntary seclusion from society. It's not about being anti-social or avoiding people altogether; it's more about taking time for yourself and prioritizing self-care.
In today's fast-paced world, where we are constantly bombarded with information and expected to always be available, hermit mode offers a much-needed break. It allows us to recharge our batteries, reflect on our lives, and reconnect with ourselves.
During hermit mode, we intentionally disconnect from social media, limit our interactions with others, and focus on activities that bring us joy and fulfillment. This could include reading books, practicing meditation or yoga, pursuing hobbies or passions that have taken a backseat due to our busy schedules.
One of the key benefits of hermit mode is increased self-awareness. By spending time alone without distractions, we can delve deep into our thoughts and emotions. We gain clarity about what truly matters to us and identify areas in our lives that need attention or improvement. This introspection can lead to personal growth and a better understanding of ourselves.
Moreover, hermit mode provides an opportunity for rest and relaxation. Our minds and bodies need downtime to function optimally. In the solitude of hermit mode, we can sleep longer hours if needed, take naps throughout the day when we feel tired, or simply enjoy moments of stillness and silence. These periods of rest help reduce stress levels and promote overall well-being.
Another advantage of hermit mode is the freedom it brings from external expectations. When we retreat from society temporarily, we release ourselves from societal pressures and the need to conform. Instead of worrying about fitting in or meeting societal norms, we can focus on our own desires and aspirations. This newfound freedom allows us to explore our creativity, try new things, and follow paths that truly resonate with us.
However, it's important to note that hermit mode should not be confused with isolation or social withdrawal due to mental health issues. While solitude can be beneficial for everyone, those struggling with anxiety or depression may require professional support. It's crucial to seek help if you find yourself unable to engage in healthy social interactions or experience persistent feelings of loneliness.
Hermit mode offers a valuable opportunity for self-care and personal growth in today's fast-paced world. By deliberately retreating from society for a period of time, we can recharge our energy, gain self-awareness, and prioritize our well-being. So next time you feel overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life, consider taking some time off and embracing the peacefulness of hermit mode.

I want real intoxicating, i can't live without you, need you with me kind of love. Will I ever find the man who will stop at nothing to have me??? A man who won't abandon me? Will I find the man who I can build a world with?? Where can he be??

At the top of this oddly shaped rock formation lives an old hermit. He will accept no offering of any kind, be it food, clothing or otherwise, nor share his thoughts of wisdom with anyone.
Part 3 in a more or less truthful documentation of my journey through the wild and isolated Geargevággi (Northern Sami: ”Stone Valley”) in the northernmost parts of Sweden.
She is a child of two hermits, who despiced civilization. They lived in a hut in the middle of nowhere without electricity and running water, walking a path of ancient hunter - gatherers. Clay pots, stone knives, bone needles, sinew threads, fur and leather clothes. Spears, bows and traps instead of guns and fishing rods. Moss instead of pads and diapers, soap made of ashes, fat and fern. Her parents don't know the date of her birthday, but they remember it was the ice break. Her favourite food is a deer liver with cranberries and baked cattail rhizomes. She can kill a bear with just a knife, but civilization is a worst nightmare.
