Hardwon Surefoot - Tumblr Posts
listening to the first ep of naddpod is like a rite of passage bc they spend a hefty amount of time talking about dragon genitals before starting the campaign and that will make or break you
Hardshine is probably the only ship out there that I’m not sure I could ever read fanfiction for. Nothing, I mean NOTHING could top the depth and complexity of their relationship in canon. I mean seriously no fic could EVER make me go as fucking feral as “I was half elf as soon as I met you.” Or make me as soft as the kiss on the forehead and the protection spell the night before the biggest fight of their lives. Nothing could ever capture the quiet affection behind “it doesn’t matter how I feel about Moonshine. She’ll do what she wants like she always does, and that’s why I fucking worship her.” Or the love behind “I can’t imagine Bahumia without Hardwon surefoot, and I honestly I don’t think I want to see that world.” It doesn’t matter romantic or platonic, they are soulmates. A YEAR just ONE YEAR together and they know that from the very depths of their beings they belong to one another. I don’t think there’s a writer out there that could capture all that moonshine and hardwon are to one another.

hardwon surefoot-stormborne bastard of the mountain, pride of the dwarfanage, slayer of glaad rosel, eater of sticky buns, and master of the earth itself.

reading is #cool
thinking about “mercy can’t be wrong, can it?” and how the timeline where alanis tried to help thiala is the one where she ended up getting controlled and used to destroy Bahumia and almost lost everything :) and how they both basically had the same reaction, which was “never going to make that mistake again”–alanis stopped trying to save thiala after the third timeline and never after that moment shows a thought that she can be redeemed, and thiala just stops showing mercy at all, period.
but then there’s moonshine, taking ulfgar’s blows “as a friend, not as a foe,” never lashing out at deadeye even when the information he omitted gets her friend killed. there’s the whole band of boobs willingly missing a whole turn to show Telaine that they believe in her. better than those who came before, indeed.
Campaign 1 of naddpod is like you and your second most irresponsible friend (because you are the most irresponsible friend) suddenly have joint custody of a theater kid
i’ll see you in the stars
It’s someone at the university who comes up with it. Naming stars after the four of them, her and Hardwon and Bev and Balnor. Hardwon laughs when he hears, his beard gone grey and laughter lines covering his face. I’m fucking positive I have a poem about this somewhere, he says, rummaging around his stump, and the conversation drifts away from the university’s decision to making fun of Hardwon’s early poetry.
It’s not brought up again until a few years later, after Hardwon dies. (In his home, with bev on his left and moonshine on his right and as many of his friends squeezed in as possible, the walls covered in his art.) Beverly and Moonshine are standing together in the Crick, looking up at the sky.
Hey Bev? Moonshine says quietly, arm around his shoulders. It might just be me, but, remember when they named some stars after us?
Bev looks at her quizzically. Yeah, I remember. Why, what’s up?
Moonshine rubs the back of her neck with her other hand. Well… I was looking at them the other day, and Hardwon’s… it looks a little brighter. But I don’t know, it might just be me, missing him.
Bev looks up at the sky, searches out the constellation the university had dubbed ‘the Titans.’
It doesn’t look like them, not really. Four vaguely humanoid shapes of three different sizes, but when the idea had been put forward it had been agreed upon almost immediately, and none of them thought it would come to anything.
But Bev looks and the cluster of stars that make up ‘Hardwon’ do seem a little bright. For just a second, Bev can hear Hardwon’s loud, joyful laugh on the Crick breeze, and he sniffles a little.
Well. We did a lot of pretty wild stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was up there, watching over us.
They lean closer into each other, and stare up the sky for a little while longer.
in honor of its anniversary, an edit to highlight how the distress signal changed everything for Hardwon in an instant.

an edit mashing If the World Was Ending by JP Saxe ft. Julia Michaels with various clips from campaign 3 of NADDPod - from (in order) episodes 30, 32, 39, and 41. all clips after the third are from episode 41. the lyrics are in bold. ah, it's been a year now, think I figured out how, how to think about you without it ripping my heart out Hardwon (Jake): I am... enjoying my golden years. [cast laughs] and I know, you know, we know, you weren't down for forever, and it's fine Hardwon: They're gonna stay as strong and heroic as we all once were and... I'm going to fade away. I know, you know, we know, we weren't meant for each other, and it's fine Hardwon: But... Beverly and Moonshine? They don't need me. And- and I have to be okay with that. but if the world was ending, you'd come over, right? Moonshine (Emily): [static overlaying audio, speaking breathlessly and almost in tears] Hardwon? I don't know if you're - I don't know if you're out there but [draws breath] Gruumsh, he's gettin' stronger than ever and, and we're doing the best we can in Isgard, but they've got us backed into Kord's Great Hall. And Kord - Hardwon - Kord has been wounded [draws another breath]. you'd come over and you'd stay the night Moonshine: [still with static] So, I think if - I don't know where you went to but if, if you can come back? Things - things are bad. I think we've only got maybe another week. Oh, I, oh, I gotta go - Hardwon please? would you love me for the hell of it? Hardwon: [static cuts out] Uh, h-h-hello? Hello? Hello? I'm coming. Moonshine? [cast laughs] Moonshine? Hello? all our fears would be irrelevant Hardwon: They need me, um, that, yeah, they need me. They need me in the Astral Plane. Moonshine needs me, Beverly needs me. if the world was ending, you'd come over, right? Callie (Emily): How did you get here from the Astral Plane? Because you can use that to get back, right? Sol (Caldwell): Uh huh. Hardwon: We're, we're, we're days, days, weeks away from The Crick. I, they don't have, they don't have that kind of time. Callie: So you need an arcane battery? Hardwon: We need this machine working, yes. sky'd be falling while I hold you tight Hardwon: Okay, um, Moonshine, um... I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I - I'm sorry I left. But that's - that's not important. I'm - I hear you. I'm coming, girl. Tell Beverly that I'll be there soon. no, there wouldn't be a reason why we would even have to say goodbye Hardwon: You guys - you can hold your own. And, and I won't think of myself as a liability ever again. Ciao. Or bye. Or later. Whatever. See you soon. if the world was ending, you'd come over, right? Moonshine: Hardwon, it's damn good to hear your voice. you'd come over, right? Moonshine: And it'll be even better to see your face. you'd come over, you'd come over, you'd come over, right? Moonshine: Get here.
