An old doodle of Kevin, my little dragon boy from my series đź’•

There could be a lot of words used to describe the Captain and depending on who was saying them, they could completely miss the mark on the man's true demeanour or hit the nail right on the head.Â
But there aren't many who know the man all that well, they don't look past his straight-laced words or stern expressions to see the heart of gold hidden within the scarred chest. Others misunderstand his unwavering loyalty and the rare showings of kindness for weakness.Â
That mistake is quickly corrected.Â
In truth, Gavin doesn't think he's ever met someone as complicated as Nicholas. His personality and moods shifted like the sand, in such subtle ways that would be missed if one wasn't paying close attention. Not until the waves crash on the shores and carries away the tiny grains.Â
So whenever the newest recruits eagerly inquire about the man in the dark red coat, the back fanned wide and shoulders squared, Gavin gives the only words that can describe their Captain in the most accurate way he knows.Â
"He's Nicholas."Â
And though he's met with confused stared and quizzical glances, Gavin knows they'll understand in the end. Just like he had.
Nicholas was the first character I ever made and despite the fact he's twice my age, he's still my precious boy.
Kevin: Judgemental tiny child who doesn't understand why people keep wanting to pinch his cheeks
Karma: Has the potential to be hella scary but is a cinnamon roll
Lucas: Sweet boy who constantly worries his friends are gonna set fire to a village...again...
Lucy: Will crush you if you make the tiny ones cry
First drawing at 27! Had a fun birthday despite being at home, especially happy with this (cause I was just messing around with eyes). This is a character from my Guardian War Series, character info is down below in case anyone is interested.

Name: Lucy Kardos
Age: 12 (currently)
Birthday: Last Summer (August), 17th
Lucy is the Guardian of Earth for the "New Generation", given the official title of the Crystal Guardian. Hailing from Redwood, she lived with her Auntie and Uncle before setting off on a journey to learn more about her Gift.
Lucy is currently traveling with Kevin, Lucas, and Karma (the Soul Guardian for the New Generation).
"Someone once asked me what I thought a group of stars were called. I didn't quite get it at the time but now...I think I understand. If the stars are like friends, a group of them are called...a family..."
- Kevin (The Guardian Wars)
"While it's important to keep moving forward, you shouldn't forget the past as well. If you do, you're doomed to repeat it. I guess that's why it feels like nothing's changed..."
- Lucas Anderson (The Guardian Wars)
"Things such as love and hate, sadness and happiness. Those things can never truely be erased, they are human nature. You do not understand what it means to be human if you choose to deny these things..."
- Karma Cadar (The Guardian Wars)
"Forgiveness isn't an easy lesson to learn. To forgive is to accept, to learn and to move forward. Whether it's for you or for someone else..."
- Lucy Kardos (The Guardian Wars)
"Good people don't tell you what you want to hear, they'll tell you what you need to hear..."
- William "Copper" Cartterson (The Guardian Wars)
"Ya know, for a genius...you're really stupid."
- Jack (The Guardian Wars)
10 Facts about Lucy Kardos
The Guardian of Crystal, bestowed with the Gift of Earth (she doesn’t understand what that’s supposed to mean, or even what she’s meant to do with it, because they’ve been guileless for so damn long and now the responsibility is being thrust towards her).
Although her Gift is Earth (solid, compact, ridged), Lucy loves the feeling of the wind (swift, freeing, open).
Short-tempered, bold-and-brash, stubborn, and caring. Lucy might not be smart like Lucas (well studied, a quick thinker on his feet) but by no means is she dumb - she can tell when someone is lying to her and what the reason might be (after a bit of probing and prodding, that is). It makes it harder for her to actually put her trust in others (because people are stupid and selfish and they don’t know any better) but she’ll listen and be there for the people who matter to her (because people are dumb and stupid and they don’t know any better).
Lucy has a habit of “adopting” people, regardless of age. She’s always wanted a big family, with a lot of brothers and sisters and cousins, a desire which hasn’t diminished since the passing of her parents (and in fact, has probably grown with time). Sometimes, the adoption is intentional (such as with Kevin, her “little brother”) and other times, it’s not (she might not have many brothers but she certainly has a lot of uncles). But the only roles Lucy never intends to fill are “Mother” (she was passionate and fierce, a force to be reckoned with) and “Father” (he smiled so warmly, the hearth of their tiny shop, a solid man with a gentle soul).
Lucy likes the bold, the loud, the passion, and thrill. Although preferring the world come to peace, she dislikes the still quiet of Redwood and the gentle ways people live there. She enjoys running through the forest though, jumping over streams and rocks and scaling the tallest thing she can find (because for once, it feels like there’s nothing holding her back).
With Kevin, she finds common ground in the fact they share similar views of the world and people around them, though he still thirsts for knowledge (despite how long the “child” has lived) that she’s eager to teach him and she finds it refreshing to have someone with experience listen to her without much judgement. With Karma, she finds companionship with the other girl of their group (their family, so young and strange) through her whimsical nature and innocent charm, finding safety in the fact that despite their difference in destiny (her, a future ruler and herself, a common blacksmith), they aren’t ever going to abandon one another (because that’s what sisters do). With Lucas, she finds comradery in the way they balance each other out - because she knows she can be too stubborn and he knows he can be too soft, sometimes they just need a little reminder.
She’s mad when upset or jealous or embarrassed or defensive, it’s not always the same kind of anger whenever her lips pull back and her words become sharp. But for as fiery her temper gets, her laughter and smiles and excitement burn just as brightly.
Lucy isn’t so much bitter about the fact the Spirits have gifted her with her element (because quite frankly, they are pretty cool and extremely useful as a trainee blacksmith), she’s bitter that there’s this unreachable expectation that comes with the title that she feels as though she might not be able to do. It ends up being another reason for others to look down at her (she’s heard their whispers as she glares at the ground, tears stinging her eyes as they question why she isn’t utter heartbroken at her parents death) or to pity her (it’s another failed casting, she can tell it is by the look in her Uncle’s eyes, and she knows that he knows how much she wants to get this right).
To much of Lucas and Karma’s surprise, Lucy is fairly well with animals. Then again, considering her closest bond is with Kevin, maybe it’s not all that surprising.
Lucy is a bit of a picky eater. Sweet makes her twitchy, sour hurts her cheeks, spicy stings her tongue, savoury is too rich, and bitter is something she’ll never understand. If the flavor doesn’t lean too heavily into one area, she likes it. However, Lucy is willing to tolerate the more extreme flavors of food if it’s with good company (because she’s too busy laughing and smiling and arguing to notice how unpleasant the sensations are).
10 Facts About Kevin
The average height for a 10 year old boy is around 4'5" (134.62 cm). Kevin, however, is very short for his age - standing at around 3'9" (114.3 cm). Because of that, he's often mistaken for being much younger than his actual age. Though it honestly doesn't make much of a difference considering he's not actually human, he's a dragon.
Most of the bonds Kevin has formed with others thus far have involved food. In his first encounter with Jack, they had fish cooked over a campfire (the first dinner he had with another person in hundreds of years). Nicholas gave him some honey candies one day and since then, he gives the boy a few candies whenever he visits. Lucy, Lucas, and Karma didn't personally give Kevin anything but when they all met at the Guardian Tower, the first thing they did was have breakfast.
Kevin has never learned to swim nor has the desire to learn and yet he enjoys relaxing near the ocean, much to the dismay of his caretakers (Jack refuses to leave the boy alone near any source of water).
Despite barely showing any outward emotions, Kevin is far more emotional that he appears to be. His most common moods are either curious or annoyed.
It's not that he doesn't know how to emote his emotions outwardly, the boy simply chooses to limit his expressions (there's numerous reasons why he does, from "better observing others" to "having better control over his emotions in general"). Most of the time, he purposely uses gestures to clearly communicate how he feels (narrowing eyes, tilting his head, shrugging shoulders), though there are instances where he'll express himself accidentally - usually when he's confused or curious, where his brows will pinch together and his lips thin into a line.
Whether it's from the many years he's spent alone or the fact that he's still a young child (of nearly 1000 years but let's just ignore that), Kevin likes being held - not that he'll say that. More so, he likes being picked up or clinging onto someone's back by those who are much taller than him. As such, the 2nd Commander - Gavin Fern - is his favorite due to the ginger being nearly 7ft tall.
Summer is Kevin's least favorite season due to it being too hot. That wouldn't be much of a problem though if he didn't refuse to take his scarf off (or at the very least, didn't wear it over the lower half of his face). He'll still wear lighter clothing but the long and thick striped fabric is non-negotiable.
The reason his ears are slightly pointed has nothing to do with the fact he's a dragon, it's because Kevin learned to change his appearance from an elf (one of his past caregivers).
He's fully aware of the fact some people find him adorable and often uses that to his advantage when he wants something. Nicholas hates the fact Jack taught Kevin how to use "puppy eyes", Samantha being the only one immune to it. He's also aware that many find him to be very scary, even if he's just a child (the perks of being one of the strongest creatures to exist, even if he's one of the last ones alive).
Kevin's character was created from a dream I have when I was 15 years old. It was a very strange dream that I still remember it to this day and I'm partly convinced it was because the house was haunted. They were sad that they'd be forgotten, I told them I wouldn't forget them. And thus, Kevin was born.
Kevin will switch between "wide-eyed curious child who trusts you" to "straight faced unimpressed boy who thinks you're a moron" at the drop of a dime and I love him for that.
He's not the most expressive person...

...but he's easily won over with food.

Quick doodle of Kev being Kev. Whatever that's suppose to mean is up for interpretation.
"They say that during a blizzard, you can hear the ghost of a woman singing as she wanders through the mountains. Whether it's meant as a warning or to lull you into your final slumber - if you hear the lullaby, it means your death is near...."

Kevin remembers the woman in white - of a gentle voice as it lulls him to sleep and a warm hand running through his hair, soothing away his stress when he found himself lost in the mountains.
But the child isn't sure how he found himself waking up in the village the next morning.

“The desire to achieve something your heart is set on or simply the act of breathing your next breath, what counts as living is up to that individual. But remember what once was, regretting every moment that will never be - does that sound like living to you?”
